This is my third and final poor experience at Fowler Auto Center. From the lack of attentiveness with customer service to the absurd wait times, this corporation is doing subpar work for the service they should be providing. I have had to wait 2+ hrs for a simple oil change every time, even though I requested a date and time for the service that would prohibit this from happening. The excuse provided is that their technicians were "held up on another car". Also, I have explicitly stated that I need a time slot with minimal wait due to how far I am traveling. Overall, very poor and inefficient place. If you're looking for an oil change or tire rotation please take your business elsewhere it'll be much faster. Everyone knows that buying a car can be a long and exhausting experience. In my opinion, anytime you go, it's almost always a four hour ordeal. But not at Ken Fowler Motors! For us, we spent quite awhile doing our research. When we found what we hoped was the ideal car, we made a quick call to Ken Fowler Motors to see if it was still there. Luck was on our side so we drove up to this really laid-back dealership in the heart of Mendocino County, CA. While I would prefer to be a bit more local, an extra 40 miles is not a big deal when they provide fantastic service. Johnny Leon was there to greet my husband because he got there first. I drove up separately because I can ride in the sports car due to my bad back. Upon my arrival, Johnny quickly took me out to see the car and let me sit in it. I couldn't believe it! The car was super clean and amazingly perfect. I could tell my husband wanted it so I was pleased. Johnny made our whole experience pleasant. He was friendly, answered all of our questions and was really easy to speak with; almost like talking to someone in the family. No high pressure sales here folks. This is the real deal and they truly want to make your car purchasing anything but an "ordeal". I highly recommend purchasing a car from Ken Fowler Motors and talk with Johnny Leon! Am I happy to see some negative reviews here mentioning lies told!!! This dealership provided my husband and I with the worst possible experience you could ever have at a dealership. Yeah you hear the jokes about lawyers and car dealers and how they are shady and you laugh it off, not here, you cannot laugh it off when a dealer like RIGO is the one you end up getting and literally lies to your face and applies for loans without your knowledge, for amounts that were NEVER agreed on!! Not helpful at all, don't care about their customers needs and desires or what they are looking for, what they can afford, nothing!! Such poor business ethics at foul-er!!! Typical Stealership!!! It's a battle every time I've taken my 2016 Subaru Forester in for service. Fowler service Dept. makes up their own maintenance schedule and do not follow the schedule listed in the manual by Subaru. They first tried to groom me at the time of purchase to bring the veh in every 5k mi instead of 6k that that factory recommends. When I questioned my salesman about this he said it was easier to remember every 5k mi instead of 6k...really?! I rolled my eyes but, brushed it off like most BS sales people feed you. I had to hear why I brought my car in every 6k instead of 5k when I had the car serviced, mildly irritating. My last service experience is why I'm writing this review. I had brought my car in for the 30k mi service. The service entailed an Oil Change, tire rotation, and replace the brake and clutch fluid along with the engine air filter. I have a K&N engine air filter so, the engine air filter was left alone at my request. I informed the service writer (like I always have to do) that I follow the Subaru factory maintenance schedule exactly and that I wanted the brake and clutch fluid replaced. That's where it all started. The service writer informed me that he's never replaced the clutch fluid on any veh in the time that he's been there and proceeded to sell me on a 30k major service which consisted of replacing the differential, transmission, and the brake fluid. I told the service writer that I didn't need or want any of those fluids replaced (especially at a low mileage interval) and only what the factory recommends. After arguing with the service writer (totally unprofessional on his part) he pulls the Subaru maintenance chart on his computer to confirm this maintenance task. The svc writer confirms the brake and clutch fluid replacement on his computer and then proceeds to tell me again that he's never replaced the clutch fluid, and that he can change the transmission fluid instead. I then asked him to clarify, "are you telling me that you're not going to service my veh to my specs and also what the factory recommends? The svc writer got flustered, didn't answer my question, and then said he would do it even though it wasn't necessary. I can't wrap my head around this logic. You'll sell me a trans and diff service that I don't need but, you won't sell me what you were already suppose to be selling me to begin with!!! After the service was complete, I looked over the repair order to see what was listed. The repair order just listed a brake fluid replacement and not a clutch fluid replacement. The svc writer informed me that the clutch fluid was in fact replaced even though it wasn't listed on the final repair order. Beyond frustrated, I asked to talk to the mgr. After speaking with the mgr Mike, he physically showed me that the brake and clutch fluid shared the same reservoir, which explains why the repair order just listed brake fluid. I thanked Mike, who was very polite, professional, and knowledgeable for taking the time to explain that to me. Mike told me that he would make apprise his staff of this to avoid any issues in the future. Ok, fine. So why am I writing this one star review? My maintenance light came on indicating my next service interval at 35k mi !!! Not the preset 6k mi interval which should have been 36k mi!! The last time I had my Forester serviced, the tech reset my maintenance indicator for 5k mi instead of the factory recommended 6k mi. I wanted to tear off my rear view mirror I was so F$&@ing pissed!!! I decided to call Hanlees Subaru service dept and ask what they recommend for the service interval. The service writer from Napa Subaru told me 6k mi, and they follow the factory service schedule. I now have my veh serviced at Napa Subaru and couldn't be happier! read more

Another oil change, another longer than necessary wait. I was five minutes early to my appointment. Check in was quick enough but odd in that I was asked to fill out a name and address card even though I'm already in their system. Why not just ask if contact info has changed? Then the waiting began, and dragged on, stuck in their waiting room, sitting in one of their broke down and thus uncomfortable chairs. Noise battle between the TV in the waiting room showing "Wendy" and the Christmas Muzak on the overhead speakers. Only plus: coffee and tea are free, unfairly the hot chocolate is 75¢. More waiting. And more. And more. Finally done after ninety-plus minutes. No other problems of note with my car so ... why does the oil change ALWAYS take so long here? Edit: upped to three stars because they reached out to me via Yelp. Edit #2: upped to four stars ... would make it five but they are still giving away free coffee but charge 75¢ for hot chocolate. read more

Made a solid offer...only catch was I needed to drive the car to Ukiah (was currently in Jenner about 1 1/2 hrs away). Offer was made with that in mind and on the contingency they needed to check out the car - if they didn't want it he'd fill my tank for my efforts. As expected all was good with the truck on their inspection. Had a check in minutes and they provided me a ride back to Jenner. All was handled with utmost professionalism and courtesy. My family has been going here for the last 15 plus years. Bought at least 1-2 cars per year over the last ten years. Spent easily a half million dollars here. They always push the extended warranty (the exact verbiage used was" any issue at all from a single clip or bolt to a new engine will be covered. ). Luckily over the years I've never had to use these extended warranty's. Until today. The trunk isn't closing and it's missing clips on a trim piece. Service dept immediately says it's not covered. It's not the service teams fault but I've bought a lot of these warranty's with the notion they would cover everything from head to toe. Please re-educate your sales team on this. Me personally won't be taking my business here anymore over a few clips. It's sad. I brought my frustration to the sales manager and the service manager with no help. I went in on a Sunday to purchase newer vehicle (2k miles) that I saw on their website. I agreed to pay full price. When I told them that I was paying with a personal check, the salesman excused himself and return few minutes later claiming that they could not take a personal check and that I would have to get a cashiers check. He promised to deliver the vehicle to my door detailed and with a full tank of gas. It was disappointing, but I agreed. I was excited with the truck, so I felt it was work taking some time off work to do the banking portion of the deal. I thought it was also a good gesture to have the truck delivered, since I lived I hour away. When signing the paperwork, the 'financials employee' was surprised with the idea that they would not accept my check, claiming they could simple wait until the check clears or do credit check (My wife and I both have credit scores over 800). It was at that point that I felt that realized that their policies may differ based upon the skin color of the customer...but I thought...they make good on the truck this could be overlooked. I procured the cashier's check the next business day then called the salesperson to arranged an exchange (check for truck) with his driver and my father-in-law. I went back to work. After the exchange my father-in-law called me to let me know the truck had arrived, but the truck was not detailed and the gas tank was on empty. I texted the salesperson immediately. He said this should not have happened and he would have a gas card sent to me in the mail. Several weeks go by with no gas card. I called Ken Fowler Auto. I spoke with a salesperson who said he would check it to it and call me back. He never did. I called...same salesperson put me on hold...hoping I would go away. I did not. When he finally returned to the call, I asked to speak to his manager. He put me on hold again...returning to tell me the manager does not have time to speak to me and hung up. read more

There were a few hick-ups in the beginning; a shortage nationwide due to the tsunami in Japan last year. Those 2 men went above and beyond though to get me my dream car. This place is a joke I had interest in used 2018 GMC duramax I put in a inquiry over the internet the next day a sales person reached out he was nice we started the process I shared with him I'm upside like over 10k in my truck I'm trading in but I am putting down 35k so that should be more then enough to cover it. I fill out all their paperwork and the salesperson calls me back almost immediately and said you need a co-signer thought that was weird considering I have three open auto loans one of them being the trade-in so he goes along and said that their was nothing they could do. So I went I called back and asked to speak to the the manager which right off the bat he didn't seem to interested in helping. So I went back to the dealership where I purchased my trade-in new back in 2016. In 20 years of owning vehicles, I have never had a more negative experience with an auto repair service center. At Ken Fowler Automotive's (KFA) service department, I experienced deceptive, manipulative, and negligent service that lead to further expensive damage to my vehicle. Had I not gotten a second opinion, I'd have paid thousands of dollars on unnecessary work. I cannot caution current and potential KFA customers enough. I brought my 98 Subaru Forester to KFA for an oil change and one repair issue. I asked for the A/C and transmission belts to the crankshaft be replaced, as they had slipped for no apparent reason. After approximately two hours, they called to tell me they had identified $3,000 worth of work that needed to be done. I was stunned. I was informed that my front brakes were grinding the rotors, that the back brakes were nearly as bad, and that my entire steering rack needed to be replaced because a bellows had a tear in it and that the bellows could not be replaced without the entire rack being replaced. I asked to be shown the damages that needed to be repaired, and they denied my request. Unable to make an appointment for the work at that time, I asked to pay for the service performed that day. Only the oil change had been performed. The belts to the crankshaft had not been replaced. Troubled that they had not looked into the belts and by the brake recommendation, I stopped at the Les Schwab in Willits and explained the brake issue. They immediately offered to put the car up on the rack and look with me. While viewing the car with the Les Schwab technician, I was shown that the brakes were fine for both the front and back brakes, though the front brakes were very close to being due for replacement. The rotors were fine and completely untouched. In addition, the technician also informed me that the steering rack bellows could be replaced independently of the entire steering rack, contrary to KFA's assertion. As the technician looked over the KFA quote for service with me, he also noted other work that was unnecessary or listed twice under redundant, but different descriptions. Two days later, the crankshaft pulley, which was worn, allowed the alternator belt to slip backward against the front engine cover, grinding a hole in it. Had KFA personnel actually done the work I requested, they'd have identified the cause of the issue I was describing, recommended replacing the crankshaft pulley, and avoided this additional damage. It is clear that KFA ignored my request and instead went on a fishing expedition for costly repairs. During economically hard times, successful businesses choose the ethical route of providing more and better service. Instead, KFA personnel chose to deceive, swindle, and ignore me. I was previously an excellent customer. After this experience, I will neither purchase vehicles nor repair them at KFA. read more

I have to say it blew my mind how easy it was to purchased a vehicle from Jo Jo (Joanna Reed) @ Fowler's in Ukiah. I had an immediate need. I called Jo Jo, told her what I needed and all specifics-financing etc. I went in two days later and drove my vehicle home. The whole process took less than 2 hours and was such a breeze compared to my previous experiences. Jo Jo is very personable and professional, two qualities I've not found in many sales environments! My son and the salesman agreed upon a price late in the morning on Monday, the 17th of April and were told that the dealership would hold it for us, we could leave a deposit and come down the next day to sign the paperwork and purchase the vehicle. He was given a used vehicle history report that showed only the buyback and no other issues. We just ran an actual carfax as we plan to sell the car. Worst service ever! This dealership broke my perception that Dealerships were the highest point of professionalism regarding autos. I took my partner's car in for an oil change, which was handled OK. So, I then took my pick-up truck in for an oil change. Thinking a dealership was good, I chose not to check the oil level after the service until later that day. But, it was 3 qrts overfilled. So, I called up Fowler's service, but they insisted I would have to make an appointment! I drove it home and drained the oil myself. Couldn't re-use the oil because it was like coffee. My Nissan engine only takes 3 qrts so I know they didn't drain it, just added 3 qrts. Thats right, I drained 3 qrts up and still had a full dipstick! Fine. I am done with them, when yesterday, I went to inspect my air filter and discovered the wing nuts and grommets missing!!! Other than me draining the over-filled oil, they were the last to work on it. I called the service writer who assisted me originally, and explained the situation. He said he'd check with the mechanic and would call me back. He never called back! Done. Since then, I've spoken with other co-workers, who have shared similar experiences of incompetent work from Fowler's. Do yourself a favor, and avoid Fowler's! I will! read more

For example my son who has autism started to feel overwhelmed and Johnny let my son watch his tablet to calm him down and even gave him a little car. These guys are AMAZING!!!! Worst car-buying experience ever. Don't trust anyone there, especially the sales manager. We bought a car there over 5 months ago and have yet to receive our title. They sold us the car without smogging it and have been giving me the run-around ever since. In addition the car had multiple problems that apparently didn't get caught in their 160 whatever point inspection. They told me they would cover the repairs and then tried to make me pay for half of the cost after the fact. In the course of getting to pay the full amount the sales manager said "I'm sorry you bought your car here." Dude... ME TOOO!!!! At least we can agree on something. I will never go here again. When the boss doesn't follow through it paints a clear picture as to why the other departments don't care. Shout out to the lovely gentlemen at the Ukiah Napa Auto Parts who took time out of their day to change my headlight in the parking lot free of charge. He even checked to make sure that it worked, hmmm. My friend, who is a car salesman in a different county, called this dealership about a SUV I was interested in. They talked about all the details over the phone, coming to an agreement on a sales price and also an agreement to my trade-in vehicle value. I took a 2 hour drive to get to this dealership, expected to hopefully get everything we talked about on the phone, and hopefully a quicker sale since everything was already worked out. I worked with Rigo and of course he proved to be the typical car salesman. I noticed there was a small damage to the bumper of the car I was buying that was not disclosed on the website or the phone. He said he didn't know about it (it was pretty obvious). Then after they test drove my trade in car, they tried to low-ball my trade in value that we already discussed by $2,000! Of course I am a woman there alone so I knew they would try to take advantage of this situation. I had to haggle the price for the value. Next, after waiting for 2.5 hours just to get to financing, the finance lady was not told by Rigo that my car was coming with a certified warranty (I still wonder if he was trying to get away with me not noticing), also did not tell her about the $500 hold I put down on the car to hold it, and also he financed my car to 84 months when I specifically told him 3 times I wanted 72 months. He was a very poor listener and did not help me out very much. I would not recommend him. I was there for over 3 hours for something that should have been a lot faster. I just purchased a new Impreza from them. I had done a lot of research and they gave me a great deal. I had heard that they were laid back, thoughtful and helpful. They said they treat customers and each other like family. They really mean it. They walk the talk. I decided to drive up Ukiah and see the car they found for me (through another dealer trade) and it was perfect for me. It took a while that day and I'd driven about two hours to get there but every minute I felt comfortable, well cared for and yes, like family. Johnny even took me out to lunch! Jessica invited me to stay over at her home if I was too tired to drive. I was alone and so didn't have a way to get it home so Johnny delivered it to me in Santa Rosa the next day. I was going there anyway so we arranged a time and place and he was there with a driver to take him back. Not only did I learn all about the car but I learned about their families and activities outside work. The human touch is just one special thing about these kind, honest people I had two Subarus in the past, both from Hansel in Santa Rosa and they were high pressure, kept us sitting alone a lot while they "checked with their manager" I think that the technique is so you're so exhausted they wear you down and you accept whatever terms they present, whether you understand the contract or not. Johnny Leon and Jessica McDivitt are wonderful folks. I'd recommend them to anyone. I will keep telling everyone and handing them business cards for this fine dealership. I am very intimidated by car dealers and their pressure and they are so far above the norm that it makes the whole experience fun! They went out of their way for me and so I'm glad I went out of my way to travel up there. Maybe I'll schedule my free checkup on a day when Johnny's kids are playing in a soccer game or when Johnny will be coaching! It's like making new friends. read more
