Brought in my used RV to Tony. It overheated a mere 6.8 miles from home and my other mechanic wasn't picking up his phone. I was desperate as I hadn't been camping since last winter and with the ridiculous heat, and work, stress, etc., I HAD to get away to the coast. He agreed to give my temperamental rig a go. A few weeks ago the horn on my 2013 Ford Focus wasn't working. On Memorial Day evening, I had the car loaded up with a bunch of stuff including two kids ready to drive back home, I turned the key and 'chug, chug, chug'. No way it was going anywhere. I called Tony, he was the only mechanic I called who picked up. He said. 'no problem' have it towed here and we'll get it going. So, that's what I did. He had the part ordered the next morning (fuel pump), and had it ready to go in the afternoon. BUT, at that point I was stranded an hour away with no taxi service anywhere. I have used Tony's services at Lopez Automotive twice now. This time it was for my Ford E-150. It's a work Van and I drive it relentlessly. I dropped it off at Tony's shop before Christmas vacation. By the time I got back he had located and fixed major break, axle and suspension problems. Issues that had only manifested by by a light hum at 50 mph. It was a lot of work and potentially a lot of money in parts as well. But not so. One of the things I really like about Tony's service is that he searches for the best deal in parts. Really searches. Tony Lopez saved me from a potentially serious situation on a weekend! I was headed north on 101 last weekend and when I got past Ukiah the temperature gauge suddenly shot up above the H! I know that's not a good thing at all. I got on Yelp and saw that Tony's shop was open on Saturday and limped back to Ukiah. He was very patient with me and very professional in diagnosing the situation. It turned out to be a tiny fracture in my radiator that was immune to the hills of San Francisco but apparently not to a 10-mile uphill drive in 100F weather. He was able to get things cooled down enough for me to safely get back to SF. I know it was a weekend and right at the tail end of his hours, but I am very grateful for his help and patience with me. My car broke down in the middle of nowhere and we got ourselves towed to his shop because of all the great reviews, and he did not disappoint. He asked me what was the priority i told him To service the transmission he instead did à diagnostic charges me 94.00 for 15 min of coding which i didnt ask for and never completed the service i asked for. After our van had accidentally been fueled with unleaded gas for a Diesel engine, we had no choice than to get it towed to the closest mechanic we could find that would drain the fuel. Tony totally saved our trip! Our old van developed a loud squeal in the front left wheel near Garberville. We were thinking maybe a bearing... but just try and find a mechanic open on a Saturday! Forget it! Drove to and called many, absolutely no joy. FINALLY, I see Lopez Auto in my search in Ukiah and he has very high reviews...and now I know why for myself!! Tony does the test drive and then takes the wheel off. Mind you, he is about to close in 30 minutes. He quickly determines it to be an anti slip clip that has broken off and is scraping up the rotor. He orders the new clip and has it installed within an hour, and we are ecstatic! And that's not all, on the test drive, he diagnosed at least three other pesky issues for future consideration. And finally, get this, he polishes the windshield and even razors off a sap spot!! And lubes the door locks and hinges!! I tell you, I am already engineering a way to come back from Coos Bay just to let Tony get this van totally up to his standards. He got us on road worthy quickly and with peace of mind, which is worth ever so much. Tony goes far above and beyond the call of duty and at a fair price. I am supremely impressed. Beware, get a second opinion. Its not that Tony charges more per hour than an average mechanic, its that he quotes extremely high hours. I live fairly close to lopez automotive so ive been there twice. Tony is definitely friendly, and he found the source of the oil leak quickly but he quoted me 600 more dollars than the second mechanic I brought my car to. The second time I went to see him it was to get my computers error code read. He tried to charge me 45 dollars, I went around the street and the next mechanic charged nothing... read more

On a recent trip to the Avenue of the Giants, our van started to shake and loud noise coming from the hood. This was not the way we had imagined our little family vacation would start. We were in Ukiah and looked around for an auto parts shop, but realized I didn't have my tools, as I had suspected it might be a bad spark plug. We found Lopez automotive and decided to bring it in. They weren't the easiest to find, as it is in the side of a side of a narrow street. Mr. Lopez was professional and kind. He told me to back the van up, so he can move a vehicle and we can pull in. He took the time from his busy schedule, as there were about 4 vehicles under repair at his shop. Mr. Lopez removed the cover of our Volkswagen eurovan and checked too see if it was a bad spark plug, upon testing he didn't believe it was the case. He checked the fans and found that both the fans had broken blades. Ouch!!! He attempted to locate a part but was unsuccessful. He gave us some advise as we left. Mr. Lopez didn't have to do all this, especially when he already had so much to do. I guess coming from a big city, I've forgotten the kindness of a smaller town and the people who live and work there. Thank you Mr. Lopez for your graciousness and hospitality.
