I love Bernhards! He's been working on our cars for as long as I can remember and I will continue to bring my vehicles to him as needed. (Unless he recommends going to the dealer, which he has before) He knows his stuff and knows what he should let a specialist handle. My family has had European cars mostly so he's done all the work. I now have a Volvo and he has referred me to the dealer a couple times but handles all my routine maintenance. If you get work done at this place try to get a written estimate and insist that they either stick to it or call you for approval of any increase and then hope they stick to that. I have been there 3 times with my '94 Merceds E320 and I naively accepted Shawn's very loose verbal "estimate". Every time when I went to pick it up, it was 2-5 times more that the verbal. sometimes "justified" by having done considerable unauthorized work or saying it took more far time that expected or price of parts had gone up! The first time the $1000 verbal estimate had grown to over $5000! I accepted it bc Shawn convinced me significant work had been needed and now car was perfect. After the last time the bill for a $170 estimate their charge over $1000. I was not angry, and by then not surprised, but asked him to call me in the future if the cost of work was going to be more than his verbal estimate. He threw an incredibly angry tantrum and was stomping around saying I didn't appreciate him and was I accusing him of overcharging, which I continued to tell him I was not, I just wanted to be warned and approve if it was going to be more than estimated. His rant was literally 10 minutes in which he kept stomping around the shop coming back and yelling at me up close or at a distance and then came into the office more than once, out of control with anger, where I was paying the full bill and I just continued to say that all I was asking for was to be updated if going over estimates. At one point he said his son had tried to call me at least 15 times, which is absolutely false. He started to walk toward my car and said he was going to remove all the work he had done, to which I firmly to him "don't you dare touch that car!" and he demurred. He said he would never work on my car again (as if I'd let him). All this time his wife Sheila, a very nice person, in the office was apologizing and saying his behavior was totally inappropriate. To her credit, after I'd paid the full bill, she insisted on crediting back my card to reduce the price by $500. I tried to refuse but am glad she prevailed because when I got home the car would not start the next day and it's turned out the battery was completely ruined and needs to be replaced, and along with a fresh dent showing shiny metal win ithe a scratch and I'll be applying Shelia's refund to the repair. After recovering from "sticker shock" ($$) I realized this business was competent and did in fact work with me to meet my individual needs. THEREFORE I recall my previous negative review I listed. They reduced the work order to fit my budget, allowed split payments and did perform very good quality work after all. The mechanic was very methodical and knowledgeable and this is a family run business. The "sticker shock" was unfounded as they charge only ten dollars per hour over what nearby businesses charge and I would rather pay this to have a German trained mechanic to repair my German BMW. TAKE NOTICE that this is a NEW OWNER and the YELP review about $7,000 court judgment is from the previous owner. Would I return to this business? YES!!! read more

Don't waste your time, or money, here. We took our VW Westfalia here to be repaired on two occasions and each time it was returned to us with existing problems or "band-aid" fixes that didn't address the real issue. Look elsewhere, especially for hard to diagnos issues. read more

This shop has a court order judgement for 7K dollars due to negligence and poor workmanship in Mendocino County court in Ukiah. Bernhards is ordered to pay damages. If you have a German car stay clear of this place, the owner is dishonest and incompetent. I returned my car 5 times after having it repaired, the shop could never fix the problem. VW in Santa Rosa needed to finally repair the poor work done by Bernhards which cost an additional $3600. read more
