Last week I went in for something I felt would be minor. It was the plastic coverings underneath the car. I had gone elsewhere to get an oil change and I realized too late that they didn't screw the coverings back in properly. So I went here and the first guy said it couldn't be done, I'd have to get new ($300) coverings. The front office gentleman, Christian, told me to hold on. He spoke with another great guy, Chris, about my situation and Chris was able to get my problem resolved quickly and for dirt cheap. They COULD have taken more money (or rather attempted to because honestly I was going to have to look for another shop) but they were honest and fair. Took car in for smog check. This shop gave me an appointment, other shops told me to show up and they would do the check as soon as they could, depending on how "busy" they are. I got there a little early and they started on my work very quickly. Their work seemed very professional and fast. No surprises and their staff were very courteous. Scam Scam Took car in for lamp inspection it failed. l Replace both head lights took back and was told they couldn't adjust the new lights down charged me $60 for nothing... told me for up to 400$ they could take a part the frontend to see if something was out of alinement took to All in One and they adjusted them fine...DFM is a total joke and a rip off store..stay away at all cost... read more

As a first time customer, everyone seemed pretty knowledgeable and friendly. However, I feel I got overcharged me for a (failed) smog ($85) & pulling codes ($40). After asking around, a friend of mine had a similar experience here. I found another shop (don't want to name competitor, they're across from In and Out) that did comparable work, had a more transparent quote, and a seemingly lower hourly rate. This new shop recommended me to a different smog inspection place who had it done for $50 ($41.25 for the inspection & $8.25 for the certificate). read more

My family has been going to DFM since I was a wee tot, and there's certainly something to be said for having happy childhood memories of your auto mechanic. These guys are honest, hardworking, and while not exactly cheap & speedy, they'll take good care of your car and only charge you for things you actually need done. I've been taking my happy old Honda there for over five years, and they've performed major surgery a couple of times, at pretty reasonable prices. Besides, it's just nice knowing that when you call up, they know who you are and can picture your car and everything they've ever done to it. The only irksome thing is that oil changes can take a while--but that's only because they insist on driving your car every time it comes in, to make sure everything's running right, and because they take long lunch hours. $67 to determine battery needed replacement. I already knew this. $100.43 to check for current draw. I already knew this. More of same type of needless charges. Boiled down to $327.25 to get a new battery. Not the way to attract return clients. Possibly of no consequence but irks me anyhow.... awful spelling and grammar in their replies to other posts. Worst shop in town. Brought my Tacoma in for new brakes all around. When I left my E-brake no longer worked. Had to bring to another shop to fix their mistake. Overcharged on labor (double charged labor for removing caliper while also charging to remove rotor, that's unethical). These crooks will put you on the road in a vehicle unsafe to drive. Don't go here. They also told me to show up on the wrong day for my appt. read more

These guys were extremely helpful when we really needed a fix fast. Not only were they solid in their work, but they lent us a truck to use while our rig was getting worked on. This was a godsend considering it was raining hard all day and we had nowhere else to go. Christian, the service writer, was honest with us and really made us feel comfortable in a terrible situation. This place is overpriced. They charge over $120 per hour for labor (higher than most dealerships). We were trapped on a nightmare vacation and couldn't get our car towed a second time or we would have taken it down the street to West Coast Auto, where they quoted labor at $80 an hour. Wouldn't recommend this place for anything. read more

They charged me for 7 hours of labor to fix a minor electrical problem and never checked the corroded ground strap or corroded battery cables. What kind of auto electrician is that? It should have been the first thing they checked on a car with faulty tail lights or a dead battery. As far as auto electric, they don't know what they're doing. I made an appointment to get my truck a smog check, I arrived about fifteen minutes early and they took my truck in did the smog test and I was on my way in less than forty five minutes, very friendly staff, if I need help with my mechanical problems in the future I will definitely check with DFM Auto Repair to see if it's something that they can do, much better prices then dealerships. Their reply speaks for itself. My annotated response follows: "This is an unfortunate situation. What he fails to mention is I locked the door using his key with him present. The pickup is 22 years old." - How old is your car? Do you want them to break something on your car, and then use the excuse 'it was old, and going to break anyway'? I find this response unacceptable (wouldn't you?) "We could determine the cause of his lock no longer working but it would be unlikely for it to be because I locked the door normally. Most likely something has worn out or broken and I happened to be the one to lock it." - They would not even look at the broken door. Bonnie offered her opinion, which is the above stated reason, and no further diagnosis was offered or attempted. I don't even think she's a mechanic... "I offered to show him the broken or worn part once accessed to ease his mind and he could see it was not because I locked the door with his key." - This is not true. No such offer was made. "He needed to be prepared to pay for repairs before we determine the cause, just in case..." - This was not presented as an option regarding the door. Basically, I was told 'tough luck'. "As to the smog issue. It failed because his timing was way off and I do not know of a shop in town that does not charge for a smog re-inspection.. " - The timing was not 'way off' - it was 8 degrees ahead of dead center. I DO know of at least one place in town that does not charge for a re-inspection (provided they do the work) - the 'place-I-ended-up-going-to' (which I won't mention the name of, such that that can't be used as an excuse for suppressing this post), and almost every other place I've ever been to. The 'place-I-ended-up-going-to' was great, and the total cost including smog, the timing adjustment, and getting my broken door open was less than the additional cost DFM wanted to charge me after the original charges for the initial inspection. These are simply the facts of my experience. You can see from what they are trying to do here, the way in which they handle a case such as this. Ask yourself, "Do I want this to happen to me?" I'm writing this review for people like me (hard working honest people who are tired of getting ripped off and/or pushed around), so that you can save yourself from having such an experience. read more

I'm new to Yelp, but not to DFM, and have wanted to air my opinion regarding DFM. A number of years ago, my elderly mother-in-law told me that she had gone to DFM, bought a battery, and that the installation alone was $65.00! When I enquired why the installation fee was so high, since the procedure was extremely simple, I was told that installing a battery was a complicated process which required extensive testing. Seriously? On a car with no prior electrical issues, except for a worn out batter? Perhaps DFM has changed it's ways, but I won't take that chance. read more

I have been looking along time for a great auto repair shop and thank goodness I found DFM. I take my car in for my oil changes and safety check ups. I am sure I am not the only female car owner that needs to have a team of great folks not only doing my safety checks but working with me to schedule the repairs that are needed. I had a hell of a time smogging an old vw this week due to some conflicting information about the car having a check engine light, mine does not. the first place failed me and didn't even warn me about a light which they could have seen when they first jumped in. i know by the book they are supposed to test first but they could have saved me some $$$. and they didn't direct me where i could get help with this. next two places i took all my paperwork in and asked for help just to make sure the first place was correct. atleast these places didn't take my money first and test me and fail me, but they would not even bother to look up my cars info to double check for me, or direct me on where to get help? just told me i need a check engine light. so they lost my business and made me feel stupid. i was coming through town to get a tire fixed and tried dfm when they opened. person at the front desk was nice and looked over my failed test and checked with his tech and came back and told me it would pass the visual if they did it. they were testing me minutes later and i passed! now i can sleep at night :) i am baffled at these other places attitude, i will never go back after the way i was treated. i will remember dfm not biting my head off :) read more

I can't say enough good things about these folks , I had to drive to ukiah from garberville for a Dr's appointment not knowing my car was about to break down , and of course timing is everything so my appointment was at 3 and Its one that I couldn't miss so I had to wait until after that to deal with my car that suddenly started smoking . So by the time my appointment was over and I made it back to my car is was about 445 , I checked the coolant in the car and seeing that it was empty ( I checked it before driving that day and it was full) so I made the decision to pour the remainder of the fluid I had in the trunk and try to make it to a repair shop I put the closet one in my gps and 5 minuets in to my drive I was smoking again and out of the corner of my eye i saw Dfm a different shop then what was in my gps and this is where my luck turned around , as soon as I pulled in Christian came out and offered help immediately . With in minutes I was filling out paperwork giving them permission to diagnose what was wrong with my car and while filling this out Christian offered me ice water . So their shop hours are from 830-530 and being that I pulled in unannounced with out an appointment half an hour before close I didn't expect an answer rite away , I was wrong not only did they diagnose the problem but told me they could fix it first thing in the morning. I decided to get a hotel room in town for the night and go home when my car was ready Bonnie who I assumed is the owner of the shop offers me a ride to my hotel and to pick me up in the morning when my car was finished, for a situation that could have been super stressful and scary for someone traveling alone they went above and beyond to make this as painless as possible as promised Christian came to pick me up around noon with my car good as new , I am so grateful for their old school way of business and can't thank them enough for what they did . read more

Very professional, polite, fast and knowledgeable. They fulfilled their initial estimate nicely. Even their waiting area is fine. The last time I was in a repair facility was at Firestone in Hilo, Hawaii -- what a nightmare that was! It required two visits over two days, hours of my time spent waiting, and, get this -- for two new tires! I think they were on drugs. I took my car to DFM Auto Repair in early January 2012 and did not get it back until late March. Within this period, DFM burned out fuses in my car and installed an illegal used part after charging me for a brand new one. When I stopped payment on my second check after finding out there was an illegal part in my car they decided now to take me to small claims court for the remainder of my bill. $1800 charged to me for $1000 in poorly, and illegally, done repairs. TELL ALL YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO NEVER TAKE THEIR VEHICLES THERE!!! read more

Do not take your BMW in here for a smog test. They used wrong equipment to find faulty codes, I found out later, after looking up why the codes failed. And ever since they performed a smog check, my car alarm goes off everyday at 10:00am and 4:00pm!! Not sure what they did, as they would not allow me to watch as they did the smog check. I am reporting a first time experience with DFM. I called first to get a feel for the place. Instead of hearing a disinterested voice failing even to identify itself (rather common "these days"), I got a very enthusiastic welcome from Bonnie, who I learned later is co-owner of DFM (along with her husband). By the time the call ended I had the distinct--even surprising--impression that Bonnie puts her customers center stage. So far so good! When I arrived the next day for my 9pm appointment, I was received by Christian. While not quite as enthusiastic and effusive as Bonnie, he was fast, efficient and courteous. The emissions check took less than a half hour and I was handed my certificate. Before I left, Bonnie popped out of her office to give me a happy send-off and away I went saying that I would be interested in bringing my business there in the future and feeling that DFM deserved an A+ review...which is what you've just read! read more

This shop is in-famous around Mendocino county for over charging labor and bad customer service. We went in for an estimate to replace a catalytic con. on a very old Subaru wagon and they wanted over $700! The car was not worth that much-anyway many such horror stories from friends and others-avoid them and find an independent guy who is trustworthy. read more
