I have been calling around looking for a very specific SUV. I think I called 6 places with no luck and to my surprise, I was told there was one on this lot in Ukia. After working with Kevin for almost two weeks and putting a down payment down to hold this specific SUV. I was more than happy to drive over an hour to come get this car. What I told Kevin was, I wanted a 2025 RAV-4 HYBRID. That was the only thing I was interested in. After given one option that was hybrid and another that wasn't, I again restated, I SPECIFICALLY ONLY WANT A HYBRID. We proceed forward with, what I thought was an understanding. When I finally got to the lot, I looked at the car but really went straight to the paperwork. I had already test drove different RAv-4's on previous lots and we had been discussing this sale for a while now. I assumed everything was accurate. Definitely my mistake but also a big mistake by Kevin being the sales man. After purchasing, I realized he sold me the wrong car, my car is a 2025 rav-4 but not a hybrid. When I contacted him to let him know, he said he would get back to me and never did. This is very shady ethics. There were other things in the sale that had me questioning ethics as well but it's just more detail to get into. I am just interested and letting ppl know who NOT to work with. KEVIN is either negligent or a liar. Again, if I wasn't so extremely specific to what I was asking for, I could maybe understand a misunderstanding. But i repeated many times, "I am only interested in a hybrid". These cars specifically, are very hard to get without preordering them and a preorder what not what I was looking for. Yesterday took 2017 Camry in for TPM system problems that caused idiot light to blare in my eyes. They needed to replace all 4 tire sensors. Cost ... a staggering $822 that included $426 for sensors and $360 of labor. I was flabbergasted. I bought my Toyota from Thurstan. The deal came with "free" oil changes for 40,000 miles. At the first oil change, they told me my cabin air filter was dirty and need replacement. $70.00. After that, I read on Reddit about how dealers overemphasize the need for a new cabin air filter. So, for the next oil change, I swapped out the cabin air filter while I was IN THE PARKING LOT with a filter I bought for 11.00 from Auto Zone. Again, the tech told me the air filter was dirty and they needed to replace it. I refused and only went back for oil changes until I was past the 40k mark. Also, I tried asking the service dept some questions about the transmission and the guy totally talked down to me and what he was trying to say was so wrong. Dude, that is not how transmissions work!! Afterward, I learned that Toyota transmissions are not great, but everything else is and so people put up with it. That guy did not have to mansplain to me INCORRECTLY about how transmissions work in order to cover that up. read more

Made an appointment for 9 am. Arrived early. Told them no tire rotation. Got car back around 11: 45 am. Was notified of recall which I agreed to. Asked cost of service was told $125. Had a email from them stating regular service cost $99.99 special price $69.99 which they agreed to. Finished basic service on time (approx 45-60 min) waited almost 2 hrs for recall work, something to do with electronic/ computer reset) they told me it was repaired, paid and left. On work sheet it stated not completed! Discovered after returning home. Also, now I think the auto dim on my head lights doesn't seem to be working where they did beforehand. read more

I purchased a used (34,000 miles) Black Toyota Tundra Limited from Thurston several years ago, and while I was inside working out the details, they swapped the wheels with another Toyota Truck. Apparently, the other customer wouldn't purchase the truck without the upgraded wheels, so Thurston swapped his basic wheels with my Limited wheels. Sadly it did take a while before I figured this out, and they were of no help. I would never purchase a vehicle from Thurston again. I still have those damn basic wheels on my Limited Tundra. I live in Fort Bragg, so the nearest Toyota dealership is over 50 miles away in Ukiah, CA. I drove two elderly friends over, first for a doctor's appointment and then to look at a RAV4. They had already paid a deposit on a new one, but got a call while we were at the doctor's office that another had just come onto the lot. Since we were so close, I drove them to see it. The salesman, Jeff Coddington, was the same person who sold me my Prius 6 years ago. Very nice. He came up with creative ideas for things I wanted changed on the car I bought. No issues there. My friends were paying cash, as I did, so other than writing the check and signing a few papers, it should have been quick and easy. While there, I only saw one other customer, but just as happened with me, we waited and waited to see the guy in finance. Having been there done that 6 years ago, I recognized what was to come. Before they were led back to the finance dept. I had warned them that they would be pitched an opportunity to purchase an extended warranty. They were pressured for exactly an hour to do just that and when they refused to drop another $3800, the salesman became surly. He never accepted defeat, or thanked them for buying their new car. He marched out ahead of them, to where I was waiting, pitched the papers onto Jeff's desk and stormed away. Appalling attitude. 2021: Tues Sept 7 - My 2020 Yaris would not start. I was in a parking lot. A passing good Samaritan couldn't jump it. Not knowing I had Roadside Service from Toyota, I had it towed to my local mechanic around 5:30. The next day he was able to charge the battery. He checked the alternator and told me it was okay and that I should take the car to Toyota if the problem re-occurred. Mon Sept 13 - Car won't start. I'm in a parking lot (different one). An hour+ wait for Toyota's Roadside Service. Car gets towed a little after 5. Tues Sept 14 - I call Toyota Service Center and speak to Matty Randolph. I tell him I would like to email the service report from my mechanic, so he gives me his email and I send it. I ask for a loaner car. He tells me they don't have loaners. His next statement could have been, "But we will see about getting a rental car for you." He didn't mention a rental car at all. Says he'll get back to me Wed Sept 15 - No word from Matty so I call at 4:13. p.m. He tells me battery is fine and they can't find anything that's draining the battery and that I can come and get the car. Fri Sept. 17 - Car won't start. I'm on a street near a park. It's late Friday. I'm too tired to wait for Roadside Service. I leave the car there. Sat Sept 18 - I call Roadside Service. After a long wait, I'm told that they can't find anyone to tow my car until Monday. I cancel my reservations for a three day vacation on the coast which was supposed to start on Monday. Mon Sept 20 - Call Roadside Service at 9:37 a.m. from my home (within walking distance to the car). The automated program keeps defaulting to my home address no matter how many times I enter the address where the car is located. Called Roadside Service again and explained the problem. They said they would take care of it. I walk to my car and wait. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to me, two two truck companies have sent their trucks to my home address. Finally, a third company gets it right and they tow the car back up to Toyota. All this took about two hours. Tues Sept 21, 1:31 p.m. - Call Toyota Service Center and am told by Mike that Matty is at lunch and will call me when he gets back at 2:00. No call. Wed. Sept 22 9:36 a.m. - Call to Service Center. No answer. 9:52 a.m. Second call. Reach Matty .He tells me that he was able to charge the battery, again went through the tests that showed nothing draining the battery. So he called Technical Assistance and they asked him to do four or five other tests. Because the problem wasn't diagnosed with those tests, he called a Toyota engineer on Tuesday. He said he would get back to me as soon as he knew something. No word. I cancel a trip to a family birthday party. Mon Sept 27 Still no word. Call Service Center at 9:36 a.m. No one answers. A message comes on for me to leave a message for a person I've never heard of. I don't leave a message. At 9:51 I call the incomparable TIm Johnson, the person who sold me the car, (I highly recommend him) and explain the situation and tell him I NEED A CAR. There has been a death in the family and the service is tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. It is three and a half hours away. He says he will do what he can, and he means it. He calls me back at 12:21 and says that Mike in the Service Center will work on getting me a rental car. At 1:01, Mike calls me and tells me that the problem is with the fuel pump and they have to wait a day or two for the part. I tell him I have to get to a memorial service tomorrow. He says that Enterprise (the only car rental place in Ukiah, CA) won't have any cars until tomorrow. Which of course will be too late for me to get to the memorial service, since they don't open until 8 and I have to leave at 7:30. . Mon Sept 27 4:15 p.m. So that's where things stand. Nine days (not consecutive) without a car and not a hope of getting one in time to leave at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow. There is a long line to get checked in for service AsFar the service lounge, it consists of hard office chairs linked together in groups of 4, one end table and a TV. If you need a drink or snack there are (for dealership profit) vending machines. I so far have no complaints with the mechanics themselves, however the wait time for an "Quick" oil change & tire rotation can take hours. read more

The oil change department is getting worse and worse. One month ago I had an appointment for my rav4. They noticed an issue with my oil canister and said it needs replacement. I agreed and when I got home, oil was leaking all over the car. They forgot to put a part inside of there. So I called back, they said to rush in and they will fix it. I live 2 hrs away in each direction. All in all a waste of time. Then I bring my Tacoma in for an oil change a month later for a 2:30 appointment and it took until 4pm for them to even get my truck in the shop. So nearly 3 hrs later I get an oil change. So this is my 4th experience with Thurston Toyota service center, twice with my Tundra, once with my wife's Sienna, and once with our grocery-getter (Matrix). I can honestly saw the Matty and no Mike, the service writers who have helped me, have done a stellar job and getting me in, getting the vehicles into the shop, and then keeping me UpToDate on the repairs and very flexible about pick up and drop offs of the vehicles. I wish I knew the service techs that have performed the repairs, but you know how it is; at a dealership the service writer is the face of the department. The services rendered on my vehicles have been great, and the immense flexibility that they have shown me due to the distance from my home to the dealership has been a great time-saver! I never thought I'd buy my next car from a dealership, but the service has me very seriously considering that exact scenario with Thurston. The Thurston administration should seriously consider that department as a superior example of how one department can win over the confidence of a consumer to the point of his consideration of changing his purchasing tendencies and putting faith into the rest of the organization. I will follow this up in the future with my experiences- guaranteed! Note: If you call ahead and get the ball rolling with them before you arrive, the check-in is much easier. I would have given them 5 stars due to their excellent and prompt service of my vehicle, but my experience with the shuttle driver today was EXTREMELY uncomfortable and infuriating. Thurston, you obviously need to do some training with your employees that it is unprofessional and totally unacceptable to subject your customers to their own personal political views. The shuttle driver was listening to a right wing radio station in the car and made continuous commentary in regards to the current Kavanaugh/Blasey controversy in opposition to women coming forth about their accusers over 30 years later. As a Woman alone in the car with him, this felt unsafe and uncomfortable, to say the least. read more

No wonder so many people drive all the way to the south of Santa Rosa to Freeman just so they don't have to get screwed over by Thurston and their crooked and incompetent service department. This review is only for the service department. I recently had a horrible experience with a Toyota dealership in the bay area and it promoted me to write this review. Yes, some of the complaints other reviewers have made are valid. Some employees come across as odd, awkward comments are made, etc. However, none of my interactions have really struck me as unusual or out of the norm for the area. I've never heard any racist or sexist comments (if I had, this review would be very different. But I've genuinely never heard anything of the sort), and I've never been patronized or talked down to. All my service appointments have gone smoothly and pricing is very competitive. I just paid $180 for a service that would have cost me $100 at Thurston. Most importantly, I trust them to work on my car. They do a good job and that's what matters most to me. read more

Curbed my car messed up my rims and refused to pull the video to prove me wrong. Said they don't want have curbs, but they do all covered in a layer of black rubber from being hit. They only offered to fix it if I spent the $2500 to fix my car with them. Not going to happen in any lifetime. Rude to unacceptable customer service. Update: paid $250 for the diagnosis of needing a new clutch and $1700 for a new clutch, the mechanic that changed it asked me, who said you needed a new clutch??? I took it in and walked around looking at trucks in the lot, came in and sat down and the service guy comes in and tells me my dash is cracked by of course by the airbag they were to fix.I walked over to see the cracked dashboard, I told him I had just cleaned the truck and it wasn't there and told them I had just drove my truck there without the crack, so the service manager and the service guy come to the waiting area with other customers there and tell me that it was cracked and what did I want them to do, of course at this time I pretty upset! I told them to fix it because that's what I brought it in for. I get home call to speak with the owner, he tells me they have video but it doesn't show the actual incident of the guy breaking the dash but tells me 99% of the people who see the video would side with them(really) so he says good day that's it! read more

Purchased my car there in February, didn't even have it a week before the check engine light came on, They told me they couldn't do anything about it. Fast forward to now the engine light has been coming on and off and two weeks ago My daughter and I were driving on the highway when the car completely de-accelerated and I almost got hit. I called Thurston again and they told me to come in and they would put me in a new car. I limp it over there and I should have known it was too good to be true because their story changed from putting me into a different car as a trade to me having to give them another four grand. On top of that, the vehicle it's self was so new it still had a warranty through the manufacturer but they kept trying to push me into buying an extended warranty through them (leads me to believe that car was also a lemon) and as for my $16,000 driveway decoration I get to pay to tow it to Santa Rosa and pray that I can afford the repairs. I hope you're happy taking advantage of people the way that you do and that you can sit with your head high knowing you took advantage of a single mother. This is my only form of transportation to and from work, for groceries and god forbid if something happens to my daughter while I don't have a vehicle because of your negligence and disregard to others. read more

I dropped my truck off for repairs four months ago, finally after being lied to by Tom and Mike I had my truck towed across town, after the first two times being told that my truck was fixed and having to have it towed back to the shop I should have learned but gave them a chance to make it right, two other times I left the shop when told that it was ready to go, only to turn around and bring it back with coolant pouring out and sputtering. They broke my seat, and proved to be completely incompetent, lying to cover up their horrible service. I'm giving 2 stars only because Ian, in the service department, & the shuttle driver (sorry, I don't remember his name) are very friendly, professional, patient, & helpful. I wasn't going to do a Yelp review, until I saw postings on Facebook that reflected the same negative experience I had at Thurston Toyota. The last time I went to Thurston Toyota, one of their employees (looked like a salesman) was complaining that all the headlines online & on tv were about the children being separated from their parents at our southern border. "Why the f*ck should I care?" was his first comment as he was looking at a computer over someone else's shoulder. The first time I thought maybe I was mistaken. I couldn't believe my ears. The second time was when I was in the lobby, where "TMZ" was airing on the tv. Even "TMZ" was covering the separation of families. His response was "I'm so sick of hearing about this!" As the man was obviously on the clock, he shouldn't have been paying attention to the tv or the news headlines on his coworker's computer & I shouldn't have had to hear how he felt about the border crisis. Both times he made the comments quickly as he was walking by. I tried to find him after the second incident, to confront him, but was unsuccessful. I did tell Ian about the incident. I told him that the man's attitude & comments were a very ugly look for Thurston Auto. I told him that if I spotted the man again, I didn't care if his name was Thurston Thurston Sr. the Great, I was going to confront him. I pointed out that at least 1/2 of the customers waiting in the lobby appeared to be of Latino or Hispanic descent. If for no other reason (like common decency), it was to Thurston's advantage to not tolerate such behavior at their business, especially by an employee. I asked him to imagine how the Mexican father with the preschool aged girl waiting in the lobby must've felt about the man's comments & the family separation segment airing on "TMZ". (I also pointed out that though I've never had an issue about swearing around my kids, the man with the young daughter may, so "TMZ" (in so many ways) was not an appropriate program to be airing in their lobby, though I did appreciate that they were covering the border crisis.) I told him that if I ever witnessed such ugly behavior by an employee at Thurston again, I'd leave & take my business elsewhere. My service rep asked me for a description of the offensive employee & told me that he would let my feelings be known to the higher ups at Thurston. He also asked me to share my opinions on the customer service satisfaction survey that I would be receiving via email. I did so, hoping the powers that be at Thurston realized they were turning customers away. Looks like my hope was fruitless, as many people shared similar, recent experiences in one of my Facebook groups. I won't be taking my vehicles there any longer. Many other people on the Facebook page will no longer be supporting Thurston Auto Plaza, either. I shared my experience with a friend of mine. She told me that her brother-in-law had been subjected to racism by co-workers when he worked there. I think he's Mexican. In addition to be subjected to racial taunts, he was passed over for promotions. I won't support such a business. I was only using Thurston for warranty repairs. I'm more than willing to travel to Freeman Toyota if I need service from Toyota. I prefer Mike's West Coast Muffler & Victor's Big O in Ukiah anyway. Mendocino County is a small community, full of kind, conscientious individuals. Word will continue to spread, & Thurston will continue to lose business. read more

I brought my sister's car here for a power steering leak and received the car back in a few days time. Not too bad...until the car began to leak power steering again less than a week later. We brought the car back yet again, and after calling several times to confirm that the car was ready when scheduled (kept getting the machine throughout the workday), was notified that they ordered the wrong part and had to wait longer. In the end it cost $500 the first "fix" and another $600 for the second fix. Stay away from the service department! read more

Unprofessional staff, LONG wait times, hard to get ahold of people. I know there are a lot of recalled Hondas right now, but they need to get their act together. If they were a bit more organized, maybe they could handle things better. I got a letter saying there were 4 recalls on my car, so I emailed someone at Thurston trying to make an appointment to get it fixed. They said to 'bring it in immediately' but I couldn't because I have a kid in a carseat, and my husband had our other car at work. So we synched our schedules so we could bring the car in, and they said it should be done later that day, or the next day. Except they didn't have all the parts they needed, and had to order them. They let us borrow a rental car for the inconvenience. I just got the car back today, almost a WEEK later. They could have at least vacuumed the interior or cleaned the windows or SOMETHING to make me feel better about it. If I could have just made an appointment like I wanted in the first place, maybe they would have been able to order the parts they needed, and it would have been done the same day like they said it was going to be. read more
