Finally, the staff were awesome. They were having some difficulty with the elevator when I arrived and offered to help with my bags up the stairs onto the room on the third floor. Felt like it justified the money we paid to get in. I saw this display highlighting this local woman who was one of the first female authors from the area. I was excited to check out the book and went to the gift shop to get it. Not there. I asked the woman working and she blew me off and walked away mid-conversation to go sit down again like it was a joke. I'd much rather support the museum than Amazon. Is anyone listening? The tour starts out with a 15 minute video on how neon signs are made. Very interesting. There is a local guy that then takes you on about a 15 minute tour of the building and then you are free to roam around after. The tour guide as he explained, his dad started collecting neon signs some years back and that was sort of the impetus for this museum. Right now they are in the midst of restoring the carousel horses from the old Jantzen Beach carousel. The hope is to get that set up again in The Dalles. They have a small gift shop which I picked up a couple of things. All in all I would tour this place again.

Or where they were so creaky that you hesitate to use the bathroom at night for fear of waking up the whole building. Truthfully, R&R Guest House is none of those things. Kevin and Julie are friendly and will help you with as much or little guidance as you want on local hikes, wineries etc. But they aren't in your face or space... Another big highlight is that this property feels new and old at the same time. Definite charm retained in their remodeling. Yet, no feeling of "this doorknob might come off in my hand." And the hot tub and pool are very, very nice. The landscaping is lush and well laid out. Finally--the two meals we hadat this B&B was consistently the best meals we had that weekend, compared to restaurants in both Hood River and The Dalles. Not too often I give an unequivocal thumbs up, but here you go.
