Finding the Ruins is easy as well as parking. There's great signage pointing you in the right direction, and it's only one block off the main strip in downtown Hood River. The acoustics are fantastic, and it was a blast being able to be right there in front of the stage. The music was loud, but not too loud. I wasn't worried at all about not having earplugs. Of course you have the stunning view of Mt. Hood in the background, and we were lucky enough for it to be clear on our wedding day, but even on an off day if you can't see the mountain, the grounds are absolutely beautiful and so well maintained that you won't be disappointed. Most of our guests were from out of town and we got so many compliments about it being the most amazing venue they had ever been to. In fact, it took a while to get the dance floor going because people were spending so much time admiring the view and taking pictures! Starting your wedding planning journey can be so confusing and oftentimes frustrating, and finding a venue is where it really starts. Gorge Crest made the process as simple as possible, offering a full, REALISTIC event quote (including things like catering, DJ, etc.) and providing a list of mandatory vendor options. While some may find this limiting, we were pleased to know that they had vetted vendors and were so happy with everyone they recommended. Jena was always quick to respond and worked with us on our requests, including extra time in the Grooms room and letting us leave a car overnight to pack up our decorations in. The only issue we ran into was getting recurring invoices in our email that weren't meant for us... I would just recommend staying on top of what you owe them and know that you may need to remind them that they have made a mistake. Best wishes to anyone who chooses to get married here. They also printed up menus with colors of our choice and, upon request, noted vegan and GF options for guests. And the food, oh the food! Guests and vendors alike raved about the food that was served. The variety and quality of the appetizers and sides was amazing. The cedar-plank salmon was cooked perfectly. It's a projector, a mic, and internet songs. And the music is incredibly loud. My brother celebrated his 70th birthday at The Lyle Hotel!…read moreIt was a fantastic weekend, with family and friends, together in the most stunning setting.The Lyle Hotel is in the heart of the Columbia Gorge, and has been totally redone by the owners, to create a perfect spot for reunions, weddings or just the most comfortable gathering of friends. We cooked meals together, ate outside, and ended evenings along side an amazing stone fire-pit. We hiked the Cherry Orchard trail which is just through the tunnel from the town and offers a stunning panoramic view. I think I had my best night's sleep in years, at the hotel. Cannot wait to return.

We saw Kelly's sign and went in and asked if they had rooms available. It's not the place I'd choose as a romantic getaway, but it is pleasant and pretty and very well kept. And they have dogs, which immediately endeared me to the place. Kelly Enochs and wife Marilyn run a nice little B&B here. We didn't see much of Marilyn (although her pressed-flower art decorates the place) but Kelly was very chatty, perhaps almost too much so. I'm sure one craves company when you run a B&B out in the woods and it's off-season! Location is great: right on a creek, right off the main road, on a side road that leads out into the 'country' (nice for walking or morning runs). There is a nice sitting room downstairs with a very good library of outdoors-related books. The antique couch is pretty but not the most comfortable. Kelly has a large collection of music and is a big music fan ... and will tell you all about it if you're interested. Our room (Creekside - a double upstairs; see photos) was large and comfortable. We had to go around the corner outside to use the bathroom (sink, toilet, clawfoot tub), but there were no other guests, so that worked out fine. Kelly is also a coffee addict, so there WILL be a fresh pot waiting for you in the morning. Breakfast was good with plenty of food ... all the basics you would expect - something eggy, something bready, something sausagey, fruit, coffee & tea. All in all, a nice time, and I would go back if I were in the area.
