It felt like the kind of place where you can truly unwind; we never even felt like we needed to lock anything up. Our family joined us for one night and had a wonderful time as well. The atmosphere was calm and refreshing, with beautiful surroundings that made it feel like a true getaway. The food at the restaurant was also very good and added to the experience. 75 y/o avid skier; lives near Eugene, and avoids driving at night.. This place is PERFECT for my needs. I stay 3 nights and ski 2 of those days. Resort is 30 min from Meadows. Location is peaceful and quiet. Room has mini-fridge, and microwave. Restaurant is closed Tue and Wed so I bring food from home. As an INDY Pass holder, I get a 30% discount on lodging. Staying here will allow me to ski for several more seasons. read more

We really enjoyed our time at Cooper Spur! While we had originally booked a 2 bed room, the staff upgraded us to the log cabin, presumably because the resort wasn't particularly busy during the heat wave. Even without the upgrade though, the resort is nice and we would have been very happy with the 2 bed. The staff are very nice and we're more than willing to discuss things to do nearby, where to shop, etc. The breakfast baskets were nice and appreciated! We don't ski, we were just touring Oregon, but the location is very good for most travelers. Not far from Mt. Hood/Government camp and all the lakes. There's even some trails that start basically at the resort! We saw wildlife like deer from our back window. The lodging was nice, things were clean and appliances modern. They even had a little travel vending machine in case you forgot to pack something, though we didn't need to use it. Parking was easy enough. While it's an exclusive perk of the log cabin upgrade, the Jacuzzi was amazing! I hope to return someday, hopefully during fall when it's not so hot! read more

It's hard to know what to call the Cooper Spur Mountain Resort. On the one hand it's not a true resort - in the classic definition. On the other hand, it's the perfect respite. I guess I will compromise and just call the Cooper Mountain Resort "paradise." Talk about a hidden gem of a place. Tucked in the Mt. Hood National Forest, Cooper Spur is the perfect place to disconnect and recharge. The rustic cabin rooms are well stocked with all the amenities you will need for a great getaway - including decent stemware for wine. We had such a lovely stay - making the Cooper Spur our base camp and adventuring on hikes all around Hood. The thing that struck our group most - all Portlanders and 2nd generation Oregonians - was the fact that we had no idea the resort existed under our noses. Well, that's all changed for sure and we will definitely be back - for both summer and mid-winter getaways. Cooper Spur is the perfect blending of low-key and just-right. Great rooms. Wonderful on-site pub and restaurant - with too die for outdoor seating - and amazing access to the Mt. Hood National Playground. Well worth the stay! read more

Restaurant not yet opened. No ice makers - have to go to front desk. Lights in hall outside lower level rooms glare thru the blinds at night. But super nice front desk staff. Room was clean. Wall heat fan is a bit noisy. No hot tub. But had a great stay and would stay again. read more

The Crooked Tree Tavern is a small rustic tavern which services the public as well as resort guests. All pluses here: 1. The vibe is very much old school, rustic and unpretentious. The bar area is cozy with a small fireplace. The best table in the house in my humble opinion is in the front corner on the left as you enter. A+ 2. Service is excellent although they do get stretched thin when it is really busy. A- / B+ 3. The food is always good. Much like the venue, it is simple but plates are well presented and generous. A 4. They have a full bar and a good selection of beers. A 5. Prices are fair. This is a super cool find. The Crooked Tree Tavern at The Cooper Spur Lodge. This is located on the backside of Mt Hood, accessed by highway 35 from either Hood River or Government Camp. It's best if you plan to spend the night, but a nice day trip from Portland is certainly an option. Our kind of place, fireplace roaring, cut log interior, snow boots welcome. Hearty food options, a burger or a steak. Sit at the bar or in the dining room. Happy servers, good drinks and foods. A winner for us. read more

We were no longer in Hawaii! This was the perfect first experience for my kids who had never seen snow. The elevation of this lodge was not too high and the conditions today were great. Not an overwhelming amount of snow and not an overwhelming amount of people. The workers were so nice and helpful. My kids were having an issue with their gear and the folks in the equipment room really had the patience to walk them through their gear until they were comfortable. The skiing using the little rope tow was excellent. My kids spent three hours in the snow and actually started getting the hang of skiing by the time we left. Very friendly staff. read more

I really wanted to like this spot. Pluses: location and activities Minuses- All six of us got a rash from the hot tub. It has not been cleaned out. When we checked in, the front desk person said there was a hot tub for us to enjoy. When we checked out and told them about the fact that we got a rash, they accused us of going in there when it was closed bc it needed to be cleaned! The gate was open and the hot tub was going so I'm not sure what they were talking about. They actually said there was no way we could have been in the hot tub because the lid was locked. When I told her the lid was off and we did go in she told me that was impossible. So basically she called us liars! I agree with previous posters that if there is a problem, good luck getting them to acknowledge it. To blame us was not ok and I STILL have marks from the rash. The cabin we stayed at was $400 and it needed some serious work. Holes in the curtains and weird brown stains in the bathroom on the walls and tub. I would not stay here again. Wouldn't stay here again. Everything was complicated and a headache. And for the price, it just wasn't worth it. We had been meaning to stay here and check out this venue for the past few years, being locals from Hood River. We always perfer the off-season to avoid the throngs of tourists and overpriced room charges. Today was my wife and I's 3rd wedding anniversary and with a 2 1/2 month old baby girl in tow, we decided to finally make it happen and venture out of the house for the first real time since the birth of our daughter. When we arrived we observed a very large group of people sitting in the grass at the front of the grounds. We quickly learned with great joy that we we would be lodging with a huge group of hippies who were staying at the "resort" for a wellness seminar thing. Basically it was a group of Californians with too much time and money on the hands sitting around talking about breathing, blood flow, and yoga poses. My kinda people! With all the excitement surrounding us, we didn't SEE much of these outdoor elitists at the restaurant where we had dinner or in the morning when we tried to have a leisurely wake-up. We mostly just HEARD them...at 10:00pm, 1:30am, and 4:30am, through the ceiling and walls. As for the 4:30am wake up, they of course had to awake and make it up to Cloud Cap for their sunrise meditation session or whatever. With the all-night commotion, on what we had hoped would be a mid-week, off season, quiet reprieve, we were desperate to sleep in! And we did! After the yogis left at 5:00am and since our room was basically a wooden cave, we slept until 9:00. But with a baby we have to do everything in shifts - eat, drink coffee, shower, get dressed, and pack one at a time. With 2 hours to go, we thought we would call the front desk and ask to check out at noon. Susan at the front desk basically gave us a "Hell No!". Despite the place being devoid of anyone around and a near empty parking lot we were told an emphatic no! They didn't have time for that. So, we hurried, rushed, scarfed our food, and slurpped our coffee, returned the keys, and got out of this hell hole right at 11:00. As we were leaving, the one and only house keeper, looking warn out and sluggish, was slowy cleaning a cabin two buildings away. There was no one tending to any room on our hallway or even in our main building. Whoo! Good thing we got out of there when we did! On the plus side, the food we had at dinner wasn't bad. The buns were a little over cooked and dry, however, and the "Happy Hour" was very limited and the cocktails I ordered were not happy hour priced and were the size of shooters. At $197 for one mid-week night, I felt like the value was more like $90-110. Cooper Spur, again, I won't be back. read more

Twice in the last few months I have had occasion to come stay at the Cooper Spur resort with a group of people. It's a big deal, we rent two of the 8 person cabins or condo rooms. They are very rustic looking but very comfortable as well. The forest setting has an immediate relaxing effect on me and the views are wonderful. Each condo/cabin has a full kitchen although our two didn't have functioning ovens, they did have microwaves and range tops. There is no restaurant close by so you are driving to get food unless you bring in your own, but even that doesn't seem to knock any stars off the place. Whether you are in the area to ski or hike or bike or race a rally car, it is a wonderful place to stay. read more

This place was okay. Great for the amount of people we have, as we rented the deluxe cabin lodge. The only problems we had was the amount of flies and bugs everywhere. There was a fly buzzing around the lamp right next to the bed i was sleeping on and repeatedly hitting/bumping the lamp shade. It made me extremely uncomfortable and annoyed.. there's a lot of spiders too which i don't mind so much but i know many don't like flying bugs and spiders. Another thing that bothered me was the curtains on the windows as they don't cover the whole window.. so anyone can see you and your whole family 24/7 so no privacy there.. Overall it was a good experience as there's cable and a nice fireplace and refrigerator. Don't know if we'd come back again since it's kinda pricey. read more

The Crooked Tree Tavern looks very cute and inviting from the outside, but the service was horrible and of the two dishes we ordered, one was awful and the other was acceptable. This review is for the restaurant, not the lodging, as the lady at the lodging check-in was very nice and helpful and even offered to help us find other accommodation when we learned they were full for the evening. At the restaurant, we sat outside and after 20 minutes of waiting for the server to come by, I finally went inside to order from the bar. While I was inside, several other guests came in to try to get service as no one was being helped outside despite this being a table service restaurant with zero guests inside. No one acknowledged me for a good 10-12 minutes while the bartender made drinks for one of the tables and another curly haired girl who worked there showed up and chatted with the other workers (still no acknowledgement), discusses splitting up the tables, then left without helping or acknowledging any of the waiting guests. It takes over an hour from sitting down to actually get food ordered and on the table. The service got a bit better after the food came, but nothing was making up for the poor first impression or time wasted waiting. We ordered the shrimp fettuccine which was hard to eat-- tasted like store bought marinara with soggy peas and shrimp on some luke warm noodles. The Snapper was good, although the potatoes were barely warm when we got the plate which made me wonder if the food had been sitting for a while before someone got around to bringing it out. In total we spent about $70 on this experience and would not recommend it to anyone. read more

We are in the cabin after one of the worst night's sleep I/we have had in years. We were told this was "the honeymoon suite" - no door on bed room, window does not open, views of tanks, and parking lot, and brutal bright lights in the night. One bedside table, one light on one side of the bed - partner must put water glass on the floor. :-(( The small double bed creaked with any movement at all. Yikes. When we arrived, the female in the tavern gave us the keys and told us promptly to not lose the keys - that would be a $25 charge. No "welcome" - this is our first time at this property. The price was/is $350+ a night. There are no speakers in the cabin for music. No clock radio. I rarely write a negative review and have not posted in a long time. We feel especially gipped due to our friends in cabin 3 - which is warm, pleasant lighting, no squeaky beds and two floors. Sad and mad. MGHW To add insult to injury, the bathroom products at Cabin C were all eco friendly and there was a black binder with how to use the TV. NO BINDER IN CABIN. We now flying home and got a call about a missing key to top it off. We left early and are amazed at the poor customer service and care. read more

This place is horrible. The staff is arrogant, waitress in the tavern (which is owned and managed by the same owners) are unfriendly. We checked in and the front desk lady would not give any information about the area. She did not want to be bothered. The waitress in the tavern would not give us an extra chair despite the tavern being completely empty, to save the chairs for any guests that may arrive. Then she gave us two sets of silverware between five people. After requesting for more she brought us two more. She was able to count that we had five people when we asked for additional chair but could not count five when giving silverware!!! My three year old wanted cereal which was visible at the breakfast counter right next to our table and when we requested some, willing to pay for it, we were given a lame excuse that it would inconvenience breakfast customers next morning!!! In our room, the coffee machine does not work and after repeated requests they did not come to change it. Other guests staying at the hotel also were talking about their bad experiences around not having shuttle service when they are supposed to have free shuttle to the ski lodge. read more

This place is a gem. I was surprised to arrive on a Saturday in August - and get upgraded from a 2 bed queen - to a full 3 bed 1.5 bath cabin! What a nice thing to do - and on a beautiful weekend. Even better the people working at the office - Heather the day we arrived - were fantastically friendly and helpful. They provided a welcome basket as well with breakfast fixings for the next am. The bar and restaurant are great to have and it was easy to have a nice dinner. A bonus were the comp'd lift tix for Meadows - we took the lift up and hiked across and down for 2 hrs - with amazing views. Totally unplanned but great hiking and plenty of parking. I think that area of hood - 35/parkdale, hood river is the best - and coopers spur is a great base to explore everything from. I am looking forward to going back this fall as well! read more

The staff kept to our time schedule and accommodated to early check-ins. The food at the reception and the brunch was fresh and delicious. Many guests commented on excellent, friendly staff. I wasn't sure what to get at first. I was bouncing between a few options but the waitress recommended the Blackened Steelhead Burger. She was right! Great tasting burger! As we know, steelhead isn't an overpowering fish so it was tasty. The truffle fries served with burger were super tasty! Sometimes truffle fries can be too "truffley." These weren't. I'd recommend it for the summer menu. We ate outside the day after 84 was shut down so there wasn't anyone there. It was a nice quiet outdoor eating area. read more

I am beyond happy with the experience that I had this past weekend at Cooper Spur. My husband and I had our wedding here, with guests coming in from all over (Oregon, Illinois, Hawaii, California, New Hampshire, and Florida to name a few). We booked out the entire resort. I didn't hear a single negative word about anyones stay. The cabins/condos/rooms were all clean and very well kept. They've recently turned their check-in area into the Crooked Tree Tavern. We enjoyed the bar and fire pits for as long as possible after the wedding. A few months prior to the wedding, some friends and I enjoyed happy hour in the restaurant. Everyone raved about the food. This was also the case during the wedding. Multiple times throughout the evening I would have guests come up to me and say, "This is the BEST wedding food I've ever had". Honestly, the whole weekend was like being at summer camp with family and friends. I can't wait to go back and enjoy it with just my husband. read more

Great winter vacation. Superb spot for families with young kids who love snow activities. However, take out 2.5 stars for 1. allowing dogs in ski area. Yes those idiots bring dogs and tied them on snow, of course they can't run and enjoy the white stuff- what's the point bringing them. You help promote cruelty Cooper Spur. 2. "warm tub". Not at all hot. Outdoor tub on the snow sounds great but no, cannot dip in after skiing... Ugh! that still make me mad. We felt ripped off because we needed hot tub so badly. 3. not resort fault but elevation is too low for XC. 2nd week of January, snow on XC trail was already packed. Super hard for kids to ski on crunchy ice. Ended up tears -worst moment for parents. Not great after paying for XC gear rental and can go just half a mile. Although they should have warn us. 4. hot water in cabin ran out after 2 normal showers. The third person got cold shower! Ugh... another upset customer. 5. very bad breakfast for the pricey cabin. Better bring your own bacons and eggs and make cabin smell real breakfast. 6. all in one person operation is questionable inefficient. Gal the front desk was very nice talking to us when a customer asked for refill coffee she got upset and let them wait very long. She also run ski rental with little knowledge. Assumed it's the same unfriendly gal on the phone when we made reservation. Love the resort still. One of a kind on Mt Hood. Impressive dinner. Parking for homestead cabin is exclusive. Ski slope is great for kids. Snow condition up there is perfect. Tubing is ok (but 7 years old said not exciting). Adults please note: there's only "1" chairlift. Total 6-7 green-blue trails (include easy black). Oh and that only weekends. No kids? Don't come. Cooper Spur needs customer comments and improve. We will go back and hope for better. read more

Very Disappointing Stay Stayed one night, Jan 1st Positives: Clean room, comfortable bed Negatives: Booked room less than one week in advance. Was not told during booking but learned in subsequent email that it was peak season and the reservation was non-cancellable. Advertised we-fi connection barely worked. Took 10 minutes to load one page, and after that nothing would load. Very dark rooms, dark walls, bedspreads and carpet. Window did not look to the outdoors but rather to a windowed hallway. No surface in either the bedroom or bathroom to rest your suitcase or shaving kit or toiletries. Everything had to be placed on the floor. read more

My husband, kids, in-laws, and I stayed in one of their deluxe cabins. It was really nice, clean and modern. The A/C was a lifesaver! Well-equipped kitchen. Very quiet area. Lots of peace and privacy. I could've stayed a week! Also, the Crooked Tree Tavern on-site was excellent. They promised the best burger on the mountain and did not disappoint. Review of our Wedding at Cooper Spur First and foremost, thank you to everyone at Cooper Spur who made our wedding weekend such a fantastic and wonderful event. Everything went off without a hitch. It was a dream. As the day got closer, it seemed inevitable that something was going to go sideways. Everyone, literally everyone, warns you something always goes awry. Well, let us tell you - everyone is wrong. Because nothing went awry for us! From our first contact with Cooper Spur, Sara continually went out of her way to ensure our every question was answered and our every need met. And her responsiveness was amazing! We almost always had an answer same day. As Cooper Spur's coordinator her attention to detail ensured nothing was missed. Our wedding was the most complicated planning effort we have ever undertaken - and her work was invaluable in it succeeding. All the way to the day before the wedding, when we realized the dance floor size we ordered wasn't going to be large enough. Sara was on the phone, reaching out, and like a miracle-worker procured us a larger floor which was perfect for the party we envisioned. There were many simultaneous efforts on our special day - and great among them was the dinner! Our experience with the head chef, Joe, and his staff at Cooper Spur was simply perfect. Again - the care and detail started way back at our first contact with the kitchen staff with our menu tasting, almost nine months before the wedding. That night we felt like royalty as we sampled excellent food and wine throughout the evening. Fast forward to the wedding day, and our selections were just as delicious when prepared for an entire wedding feast as they were for just the two of us. We received numerous compliments from our guests on their dinners, so it wasn't just us! Worth a shout-out: Joe's smoked brisket was perfect. Moist, smoky, rich brisket - exactly how a barbecue lover wants it. Seriously - thank you to all of the kitchen staff who put such a wonderful meal together. No more than twenty minutes after we arrived and started unloading, Jeff, the maintenance manager, drove up. For the next two days Jeff would somehow always appear exactly when we needed something. Random question? Jeff knows the answer. Need power run early to do speaker tests? Jeff's got the cables and will have them laid tonight. Beer's not cold? Jeff shows up with twenty pounds of ice. And always with a joke - his humor and wit kept spirits light as the all-important hour drew closer. He was our instant point of contact into Cooper Spur and his availability kept setup running smoothly. Of course, the grounds and surrounding landscape of Cooper Spur are basically unparalleled beauty for a wedding. Verdant forest surrounds long open lawns surrounds an enormous white wedding reception tent. How perfect is that? Our wedding photos are unbelievable. We visited several potential sites before choosing Cooper Spur, including a few in heart of Portland, Oregon. We are so glad that we went with Cooper Spur and its amazing location under Mount Hood. Stayed here 2 nights for a (great) wedding. Is a set of rustic cabins/condo-cabins. Pros: +A beautiful setting in the mountain forest. Nice big lawn in the back. +Cabins! Big timbers with lots of natural wood. +Room for quite a few people in the condo - 6 beds total (though only 1.5 bathrooms). +Clean. Cons: +Insufficient lighting inside. With the dark wood everywhere, a lot of light would be nice. But there were tiny fixtures that put out hardly any light. Heard lots of concerns about this from other guests across several units - is worst in the bedrooms. It's a problem both at night and even during the day. CSMR, you can fix this pretty easily. I understand trying to be eco-friendly, but y'all went overboard if that's what happened here. +Dated. The kitchen was from the 60s and the bathroom got updated in the 80s I think - the linoleum has peeled back on the edges and looks well-aged. Don't expect modern stuff here. +Headroom. The upstairs bathroom has a short sloping roof that I bonked my head on a few times. As long as you're not expecting modern conveniences, and can bring your own lighting, I think you can have a really nice time here. If you need the latest and greatest, or are afraid of the dark, stay away. read more

I don't know about the accomodations, but what I do know is that their $5 all-you-can-eat Taco Nights on Monday and Tuesday during the snow season are spectacular! I hear if you're staying you get taco night for free too. I'm only giving a 4 star because if you go on Tuesday sometimes they run out of stuff on Monday and don't replenish for Tuesday (there were no beans for the vegetarians once). The atmosphere is awesome, with a log cabin feel and old pictures of the Hood River Crag Rats, old snow equipment, etc. all over the walls. read more

I was royally screwed, from the no lift tickets discount, no shuttle, bath tub malfunctions, scales and other inedible products in the tavern food and lastly the free breakfast which includes stale pastries and flavorless oatmeal. At the very least they could have eggs and/or bagels. The only upside to my stay was the hot tubs. If the hot tubs are worth the money for your stay and the risk of getting screwed over and not even offered some sort of a refund then this is the resort for you. read more

I was doing some tile work at a local cabin just around the corner from the Cooper Spur Mountain Resort. After 3 days of staying at this cabin I thought I'd give the resuraunt a try. I consider myself a foodie and I have ate at similar places to the Cooper Spur Inn and I was expecting average food. I have to say after that first night I have been eating there ever since. First night I had three amazing appetizers. Second night I had one of the best steaks I have eaten in a long time. Third night ordered an amazing roast beef sandwich. I probably have two to three more days working here and I plan on trying a few more recommended dishes. Exceptional and worthy of the high praise and ratings shared by others. Scooted up highway 35 out of Hood River to the little known Northside of Wy'east (aka Mt. Hood) just in time to make happy hour. We were greeted by a warm wood burning stove and well-prepared staff along with about 15 others. I mentioned the others because it certainly filled up the little restaurant lower section. Had the Rockfish sandwich and truffle fries, very good. Wife had the crispy deep fried oysters and went in to a trance of food love. Top it off with a chocolate truffle. Very nice visit and meal, we'll be back and bringing friends :) read more
