We recently went to a wedding there and it was beautiful. The area was beautiful and the view was great. Anyone planning a social event should consider this place

There are no words to describe how perfect our August wedding at the Griffin House was. We knew early on in our wedding planning that this was the dream venue for us. And from our initial phone consultation with the Griffin House team, through the booking process, the months of planning, the site visit, and the day itself, we were constantly more and more impressed. This team and this venue is so special. The location itself is jaw-droppingly beautiful, but the ease with which the team operates, partners with vendors, and encourages support of local Hood River businesses is a site to behold. Not once did we question a single thing when it came to the Griffin House and its team. We are so grateful for the most wonderful, dreamy wedding that we will cherish the memories of forever.

Absolutely amazing place to book your wedding. The entire staff made sure everything was prepped and ready to go for a zero stress wedding. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and everyone loved it! I couldn't have asked for a more caring and on top of it staff that made this day perfect!

This review has taken me some time to write due to the fact this experience has so much emotion attached to it. Michael & I got engaged back in September of 2019. We knew from the start we wanted to start our life together in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. I scoped out venues sites & came across the Griffin House & was immediately intrigued. I remember meeting Marlowe on a blistering January afternoon in 2020. The winter winds were insane. But through the fog & drizzle, my breath was taken away by the expansive view of the gorge. I couldn't fathom the idyllic landscape, golden hour, & sunsets this venue beholds during the summer months. We couldn't wait to book our wedding in 2021. But that's when life hit us. In May of 2020, Michael's mother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Michael & I were at our wits end. We did not know how much time we had left with Barbara, so we wanted to wed ASAP. We decided to reach out to Marlowe in hopes of a September date opening up since so many couples were postponing. Marlowe replied quickly stating she had 9/19/20 available. Thus started our journey of planning a wedding in three months during a pandemic... This was a whirlwind of an experience trying to navigate. Luckily, Marlowe guided us through the normal wedding process & researched the most up-to-date COVID regulations. We were all set for our big day & over the moon with all our hard work. Well, life had another plan in motion. The PNW 2020 wildfires. After a heart wrenching phone call, we were forced to cancel our wedding two days before our big day due to poor air quality conditions. Marlowe was so empathetic during this difficult time. After having some time to grieve the loss of our "Plan B" wedding date, we decided it was time to start the process of our "Plan C". To our great surprise, Marlowe searched out a weekend in May 2021 that was open for us to not only reschedule our wedding, but for us & our small wedding party to stay two nights at the Griffin House-completely complementary! This was beyond our expectations of a venue host. We started planning again with Marlowe, & her newly formed team, a larger wedding for May 2021. They helped us with day-of coordination & setting layouts. It was so wonderful being able to utilize the Griffin House's decoration & furniture inventory for our wedding. We were able to spend more of our budget on food & drink rather than worrying about renting tables, chairs, & large venue decorations. The thing about the Griffin House is that you are getting a million dollar view the moment you book this venue. The day of the wedding was an absolute dream. Marlowe accomplished all her aspirations she set for herself back in 2020 & more. The Griffin House was completely remodeled to her liking (a natural light, neutral, boho aesthetic), her beautiful lawn staircase was lush & green, & her clear ceiling tent at the reception lawn was absolutely stunning. This day was truly the best day for so many reasons. Despite all the misfortune we endured, we finally were able to tie the knot in the most perfect weather in front of the people we love the most. Most importantly, Michael's mom, by the grace of God, was present with us. I cannot thank Marlowe & her team enough from the joy & love you embraced us with. You were part of something so much bigger than Michael & I. You helped create & protect a moment in time we will hold dear to our hearts forever.

There's absolutely no denying how beautiful this wedding venue is. Look at any photos online and…read morelet me tell you, it's just as wonderful in person. Of course you have the stunning view of Mt. Hood in the background, and we were lucky enough for it to be clear on our wedding day, but even on an off day if you can't see the mountain, the grounds are absolutely beautiful and so well maintained that you won't be disappointed. Most of our guests were from out of town and we got so many compliments about it being the most amazing venue they had ever been to. In fact, it took a while to get the dance floor going because people were spending so much time admiring the view and taking pictures! Starting your wedding planning journey can be so confusing and oftentimes frustrating, and finding a venue is where it really starts. Gorge Crest made the process as simple as possible, offering a full, REALISTIC event quote (including things like catering, DJ, etc.) and providing a list of mandatory vendor options. While some may find this limiting, we were pleased to know that they had vetted vendors and were so happy with everyone they recommended. Jena was always quick to respond and worked with us on our requests, including extra time in the Grooms room and letting us leave a car overnight to pack up our decorations in. The only issue we ran into was getting recurring invoices in our email that weren't meant for us... I would just recommend staying on top of what you owe them and know that you may need to remind them that they have made a mistake. Best wishes to anyone who chooses to get married here. It is a very special place.

The restaurant had a varied, mouthwatering menu and the service was excellent. The rooms had an old world feel to them, but were mostly refurbished and updated. What we loved most was the varied gallery of paintings on walls on each floor and the old-fashioned lever driven elevator that was run by the staff. The views and the grounds were exquisite with a waterfall cascading by a lookout. An unusual and historic landmark hotel that's definitely worth a visit.

On the one hand, the grounds are lovely, with some nice views of a waterfall cascading down to the Columbia River. The hotel has nice "bones" and the interior incorporates a lot of Art Deco touches, although we didn't agree with every design choice. There's a cool, old-fashioned hand-operated elevator that needs a staff member to operate. My biggest issue had to do with the cost of the room in late October given that the view of the river was very limited by small-ish windows and trees. Overall, just not worth the $325/night rate. The hotel appears to be a prime destination for weddings, which could be fantastic if the weather cooperates. It is located just west of small Hood River, which appears to lack much in the way of fine dining, but does have a number of boutiques, a great brewpub (Pfriem), and a great coffee/breakfast place (Kickstand). For us, given all of the other waterfalls along the Gorge, I think we would have been just fine with a less expensive, less notable hotel for the night.

The Ruins, you've WOWED me!…read more Stunning grounds of what must have been an old building, now only a few walls, with nature having taken over doing its thing all throughout the cement and brick remnants. The bar, adjoining restrooms and such are attached in a way that does not cheapen the natural beauty of it all. It's not a huge selection of beverages, but there's plenty enough you should be able to find at least one or two beverages you like from the beer, wine, cider, seltzer, etc. selections. Finding the Ruins is easy as well as parking. There's great signage pointing you in the right direction, and it's only one block off the main strip in downtown Hood River. The acoustics are fantastic, and it was a blast being able to be right there in front of the stage. The music was loud, but not too loud. I wasn't worried at all about not having earplugs. From what I hear, they have rotating food carts for events and shows. We were able to choose from an ice cream/gourmet ice cream-float cart, and a savory and sweet crêpe cart. We had both of course! The kid's vanilla ice cream with passionfruit soda float was delicious! 2025 #21
