I hired Hugo at Four A's Remodeling five years ago to lead a bathroom demo and rebuild after a flood. The two months it took to complete the work were just the beginning of a nightmare that has lasted five years. From the start, nothing went right: The sink was installed incorrectly. His handyman used a drain pipe with an overflow hole even though my sink didn't have an overflow, then filled it with plumber's putty. Naturally, it leaked everywhere. I ended up having to replace it myself. The toilet was removed and reinstalled four times due to drywall and texturing errors. When it still didn't sit flat, his solution was to shove wooden paint shims under it and claim that was "normal." The tub installation was a disaster. His handyman put Hardy backer on the wall so thick that any tile would have sat inside the tub. I had to take time off work just to supervise and make him redo it. The plumber he hired (Forthright Plumbing, Leo) over-tightened the tub drain shoe and used plumber's putty instead of silicone, directly against the manufacturer's instructions. A day later, water leaked into my downstairs neighbors' unit. I thought it was fixed--five years later, the same leak has returned. A second opinion from a new plumber revealed multiple cracks around the drain caused by the original installation. I now face over $5,000 in repairs to replace the tub and damaged tile, plus the cost to dry out and repair the unit below me. Do not trust Hugo or Four A's Remodeling. The poor workmanship, disregard for manufacturer instructions, and lack of accountability have caused years of stress and significant financial damage. read more

Hugo does not stand by his work. I hired him to repair and paint my deck rails. He did not do the work himself and when he came back to rework the rail, he again sent the low wage worker. When I called recently to tell him how the railing has cracked and split, he said he'd call at the end of the week. He didn't. I called the following week and left a message. I recently needed some repairs to my roof for termites and dry rot. I received several bids for the job and decided to go with Four A's Remodeling. Hugo was very prompt in coming out to give me a bid. He was very courteous and very detailed in explaining to me what needed to be done. The work was completed the following day after the bid and I was very pleased and more than satisfied with the results. My experience with Hugo at Four A's was horrible. In December 2021, San Diego had a huge storm and I noticed that the roof in my recently purchased house was leaking in a couple spots. I immediately went on Thumbtack to find someone who would come out to my house quickly and patch to avoid any further water damage coming into my roof. Four A's has great reviews and was willing to come out right away. Hugo showed up the very next day and told me that I had two options: I could "patch" the roof in the places needed to ensure that leak would be fixed for $400, or I could completely replace the roof in the area where he believed the leak was coming from for $1,200 (more on this later). His reasoning was that the roof was not done correctly and needed to be redone. Knowing that there was rain coming again and needing a quick fix, I agreed to the quick "patch" option. I assumed patching meant new shingles, but only in the area that actually was leaking. I didn't validate that with Hugo, which I should have. The very next day one of his employees showed up, spent an hour slathering some mastic on the roof and told me that I would "need a roof very soon" and told men to reach out to Hugo for a quote, then left. After I actually looked at the repair on the roof, I realized that they dumped mastic in the wrong spot on the roof that wasn't even leaking, not even close to where I showed him where the leak was, and left this horribly ugly tar behind. When I reached out to Hugo, he basically said that it was my fault that I chose to patch the area: "Look Shane, no one is taking advantage, I was very detail in my explanation when I told you that we can replace the whole thing or just patch it. I understand that it doesn't look great so I'm giving you a break I'm going back and replacing them for you so no that's not the exact same price that I would've charged you the first time I had told you that I usually charge around $1200 to replace all the ridge cap". He offered to cut me a break, and to come out and do the job correctly by replacing the shingles for another $400. His justification was that $800 is still cheaper than the $1,200 he originally quoted me. The ridge cap wasn't even leaking in the first place and should have never been touched. He should have been able to see this when I took him into the attic and showed him where the water was clearly penetrating. There is no attic access to where the ridge cap is located, so there was no reason to believe that it was leaking from that area. So I called two other reputable roofing companies, and both were blown away when I told them this story. The two quotes I received were in the $400-$500 range to replace the shingles that Four A's ruined and patch the actual leaking area with new shingles. Both said that mastic should have never been used in this scenario. Both companies also stated that I did not need a new roof, and that I was being sold on an expensive services because it puts more money in the Four A's pocket. Turns out the leaks were coming from an easy area on both sides of the roof that was a very quick and easy fix. Neither area that I showed Hugo was actually fixed by this repair. I reached out to Hugo asking for a $200 refund offering to let him keep the remaining $200 for his time, but he never replied. Giving 2 stars due to their quick turnaround, but otherwise I would stay far away from Hugo and his company. read more

I hired Hugo Uribe to remodel my bathroom after damage from a sewer pipe break. He said he would review the claim adjuster's estimate and send an email requesting reconsideration of the amount allowed for the shower. He told me a dozen times that he had done the email or he was going to do it. He was paid in full and to this day three months later he is still lying to me about it. Very unprofessional. Hugo and crew did an amazing job on my house, just before sale! Hugo and his company worked with me years ago on other homes and always did everything with excellence. This time was no different! They totally changed my backyard and fences and made it look brand new, completely redid my kitchen in significant ways for a very reasonable cost, and also installed new flooring and painting and so much touch-up work all around the house. I found this company on Home Advisor while searching for companies that would do a roof inspection. I wanted to make sure roof was OK before I explored the installation of solar. Hugo called within the hour after my entry on Home Advisor and we set up an appointment. He was on time and was able to do the inspection in about an hours time. He gave me a firm estimate of some minor work that should be done. Truly, I expected he might recommend major work that needed to be done as I am one of those people that thinks companies over estimate work you need. The work he suggested was pretty much the same as came in in a home inspection last year when I bought the house. I was very pleased and felt he was totally honest on the repairs that needed to be made. The guys came today and did the repairs and maintenance. They even found some tiles that matched my roof and replaced several of the severely cracked tiles with them. I hardly knew they were working and when they were done, they completely cleaned up.
