I came for dinner at the recommendation of a friend, and let me say, he was right. This place is great! The vibe in here is very trendy, but still welcoming. They have such an interesting menu with items ranging in price (plenty of options). I ordered the whipped ricotta toast.... and have been dreaming about it since I left. I am not sure what kind of magic they used to make it, but OMG. Service was great, and our server was very helpful with recommendations for us. Cocktails are unique and very yummy as well! I hadn't been here in years and finally returned on Wednesday night. We had an excellent server who gave helpful advice and knew the cocktail menu so well. We didn't have a reservation but were seated immediately in a comfortable spot. I had a few cocktails, and each one was well-balanced and tasty. The people I was with enjoyed their cocktails, too. I ordered the poutine, and it was hot, cheesy, and the fries were crunchy even with all the yummy gravy. My friends had chicken wings, truffle fries, and the tomato soup and grilled cheese. Everything was delicious, and the server let us take our time. I look forward to trying brunch here because the menu sounds great. We've only been twice, both times for brunch, but we love this place! The food is quite excellent and not overpriced IMO. I'm surprised another reviewer said brunch portions were small; that hasn't been our experience. In fact, I brought half of my meal home in a doggie bag. Great atmosphere and great food. Service could be more attentive and I'm against the "kitchen fee" they force on diners. I leave a 15% tip instead of 20% to offset the kitchen fee. Overall, our experience here was great, but I think my favorite part was the garden party cocktail. I will always try a gin based drink when cucumber and basil are involved, but this drink had peppers too which gave it a fun kick. The food was really good too. My boyfriend got the salmon which he loved, and I got the chicken which was good too but a little too salty for my taste. The chicken dish came with a generous helping of broccolini and it was fantastic. The service was excellent - very attentive and accommodating. We enjoyed dinner so much that we came back for cocktails and poutine after seeing a show in the area. We came here for dinner this past Saturday. We had a reservation so we were seated promptly. We had a good seat, lots of waiters and waitresses, but it still took nearly 10 minutes before we got our drink order in. When a different waitress came back with our drinks, she had 4 of the 5 wrong :( Ok that happens, it was busy. Another waitress comes over to tell us that they were having a problem with the grill so their burger was not going to be available along with a few other dishes. got our food order. OK great, a bit of a pain, but that happens. We skipped ordering appetizers since we weren't that hungry. Good thing, since it took forever for our food to arrive. I had ordered just the Grilled cheese without the tomato soup ( even though I love tomato soup) When they brought my order, guess what I got? tomato soup with the grilled cheese. Gritting my teeth at this point since it has been one issue after another, I figured I might as well enjoy the soup. Too bad it wasn't really tomato soup :( It just warmed marinara sauce. :( Our 3rd or 4th waitress of the night ( sort of lost count) was very nice, but at this point, all we wanted to was eat and leave. Food: I went with a large group and we got a special "brunch basket" that came with a croissant, a chocolate banana muffin, a cinnamon roll, and a lemon pop tart with blueberry icing. We also got an order of their beignets. All of these baked goods were AMAZING! They were all the best I've ever tasted, including from actual bakeries. Foundry on Elm has an eclectic atmosphere that almost feels like it's still defining itself. The clientele is a mix of college students with their parents, 20 something's out on dates, and older couples local to the area. It's in a tough spot located in the heart of Davis Square where you expect more of a down to earth crowd. The restaurant has a nice ambiance with plush red and black stools with marble countertops that adds an interesting antique feel. The food here is delicious! I'm a huge fan of the steak frites which are a generous portion. The chef does a great job of cooking them medium rare. We ended up coming here on a Saturday night because a lot of the other restaurants in the area didn't have any openings, but Foundry had a few spaces left to squeeze us in. Service was quick and friendly, but the table itself was fairly small for the amount of food and drinks we ended up ordering. We had the charcuterie board and a few different mixed drinks - everything was good, but the price was a little steep for what you get. I went here tonight for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. Originally, I had made a reservation for Saloon, Foundry's sister restaurant. However, I got a call from them saying a private party booked the whole restaurant all of a sudden and they were canceling my reservation. I definitely wasn't pleased to find out the day before, but the woman I spoke with told me we could go to Foundry for the same reservation time or come to Saloon on Friday instead. Since today's his bday, I opted for Foundry. She was a nice enough to say she would add notes to give us a few free drinks and something special since it was birthday and for the inconvenience. Upon arrival, we we're seated right away and a little while later our waitress finally came. We placed our orders and got our food. All the food was great and well made. We got the poutine, Tuna and Salmon. Our waitress just stopped coming to our table after she took our orders, which stunk because my boyfriend wanted to order more drinks to eat our entrees. She finally showed after we stared her down and got the drinks. So, wasn't a fan of our waitress...no one who worked there was very friendly. At no point did we get the "inconvenience drinks or something special" according to the Saloon person. Which was a bit of a bummer since it was a bit of frustrating scenario, but it is what it is. One of my favorite places to go for outdoor seating! They have a limit of 90 minutes per party so they everyone can get a chance to enjoy the space. My last dinner there, I ordered the mussel appetizer. It's very flavorful and the garlic bread that goes with is nice with dip with the sauce. read more

My sister and I stumbled upon Foundry while we were walking around Davis Square, looking for a beer and casual meal. They had a nice beer & cocktails selection. Our server was happy to make recommendations! I settled on a fruity summer ale. I loved it! We ordered the poutine fries as our appetizer. They were amazing! The hand cut fries topped with gravy were served hot in a skillet. They melted a great deal of mozzarella on top. I was in heaven! I ordered the grilled Cheddar & Gouda sandwich with the tomato basil soup as my entree. It was very good- exactly the type of meal I was looking for! They drizzled the grilled cheese with honey. Came here with a small group yesterday for a beer and app. The interior is beautiful - marble countertops, checkered floor, red leather seats, and lamp chandeliers. We grabbed a seat at the bar. Our bartender was very friendly and checked in often. He even refilled my bf's beer when he spilled it. At first glance, I was most impressed with the beer selection. It's extensive and includes many varieties, including some international ones. I ordered a beer flight ($12), there were no restrictions on which beers I could order. I went with two sours, a porter, and an IPA - all good. We also ordered calamari which had a nice crunch and came with a delicious garlic mayo, but at $13, I'd reconsider ordering it again. read more

Hands down one of the best restaurants in the Davis area! While it is a bit pricey, the high quality of the food is definitely worth it. Every dish I've tried has been amazing, but what keeps me going back year and after year is the burger. The burger is similarly priced to anywhere else in the Davis area, but is so much better than anywhere else. It's also easier to get a spot on their extensive bar area for drinks compared to other places when you forget to make a reservation. I've tried a few things here and everything has been generally good. I keep coming back for the burger though. At $15 it's not inexpensive, but it is so good it is definitely worth it. It's simple, with just pickles and cheese, but the meat is perfectly cooked and seasoned. A little joy in every bite. Service has been attentive and friendly. I've gone here in person and not been super impressed - there's usually a limited number of options that look appealing to me and now that I'm gluten-free those number of options are even more limited. I've also tried the drinks and they were nothing special. But I tried the Foundry for takeout last night and was pleasantly surprised-- the burgers were excellent, the poutine (which I have tried before and knew it was good) was satisfying. The mac & cheese, for me, leaves something to be desired - I am hard on my restaurant mac & cheeses. I ordered the mac & cheese with spinach and it was pretty good but would go really well with some Trina's homemade hot sauce. It also contains mushrooms which I don't remember being on the description on Uber Eats because if it had been I would've asked for mine with no mushrooms (I hate to waste food). The best things that Foundry has going for it are ambience and location-- it's always seemed a little too self-important for me without delivering really delicious food. But next time I go in I'll definitely have to get their burger and of course the poutine (which I think is a little bit fresher when dining in). read more

Seated for dinner on a busy Sat. Put in a drink and app order and ran to the restroom. Came back to find my table cleared...? Busser came back over after a few min and was clearly really annoyed as he reset my table "ugh, I thought you left." Nice start. Immediately after, the table next to mine had a catastrophic water spill, completely soaking my table and seat. The host and busser brought over some non-absorbent napkins and just left them with the spilling table to clean up my table too. Barely helped. Needless to say, I sat back down in a puddle. Oysters were carelessly shucked and very gritty. French onion soup was awesome. Ordered the ribeye medium rare. It came out blue, and was easily 60% fat. A ribeye is supposed to be very fatty, but not MOSTLY solid fat. And improperly cooked. Really a pretty horrendous $100 dinner. I did enjoy the Puglian wine. read more

This place is great. Got brunch with my former coworker here and the overall experience was fantastic. I got the "Don't call it a 3-way" and my friend got the "Spicy Italian Sausage Pizza". Both were great. Will definitely order again when I return. Mimosas and sangria were great too, actually the best Mimosas I've had dining out. Staff was also very nice. The server was very patient with me, as I could't figure out what to order. 'Twas the night before Christmas... Well actually it was the night before Christmas Eve. My boyfriend's cousin took us out for dinner, and a bunch of restaurants in the area were closed! Boooo. Fortunately Foundry on Elm was open, and I'm glad we ended up here because the food and service were both great. I started with an IPA of some sort while we ordered fries and brussel sprouts for the table. Loved the fries with truffle and parmesan. So addicting. I was less a fan of the brussel sprouts, which I would normally like. They were caramelized and had garlic and crispy shallots, but it still lacked flavor. Then again, I shouldn't judge brussel sprouts for tasting like brussel sprouts. For my entrée, I had my eye on the steak frites, but the Foundry Burger won me over. It was the blend of brisket, chuck, and short rib, as well as the truffle-horseradish aioli that did it. So juicy and delicious... And so so messy. I couldn't finish the whole burger, but I think I put on a disgusting show of eating it. Anyways, this is a solid restaurant to enjoy a good meal. Plenty of seating and selections of food and beverages. Parking can be a challenge when it gets busy, but it's totally worth a trip to the Foundry! read more

My husband and I had dinner here for the first time today. The food was amazing. My husband had the Bay of Fundy Salmon served with a delicious citrus beurre blanc and wonderfully cooked. I had the tomato soup and griddled sourdough grilled cheese. A wonderful combination of smoked Gouda and cheddar drizzled with smoked honey. Our server Olivia was awesome! I was very excited to go there for dinner with Emily K., Calli C., Erick H., Peter F. and a couple of other lovely folks before heading next door to the Burren for two birthday celebrations. Immediately upon entering, I was stunned by how similar this place is and feels when contrasted to the Eastern Standard. It's very similar although not as upscale and formal. It is also less dark in there, and more compact. I had seen mixed things about the place on Yelp and looked forward to my experience there - especially since Davis Square needed a place like this. There was no craft beer place in Davis really and the market was pretty much wide open for an establishment of the sorts. Sure, Red Bones has a ton of beers, but nothing like this. And they don't have any craft cocktails like Sazeracs and other beautiful cocktails of the sort. Their beer selection is obviously pretty damn solid as well. They have all kinds of bottled and drafted beers. The hostess handed us some menus to peruse and vanished while our waitress arrived and hooked us up with the typical glasses of water and bread basket with butter. The layout of the menu immediately reminded me of the menus at Eastern Standard and Gaslight. Same kind of format and layout, with a few similarities. The cuisine offered at the Foundry definitely isn't as high end but they do have some pretty unique dishes such as the Spaetzle, a traditional German/Swiss egg noodle-like pasta. their menu is all over the place though, they have traditional French dishes such as the classic steak frites to Louisiana-inspired shrimp ettouffee. They also have Italian dishes. It's very hard to pinpoint the style of the establishment; they really don't seem to be headed in any direction. Unfortunately for me, they did not have roasted bone marrow; I was a bit disappointed by that but settled for some pork belly as an appetizer. It came confy-ed and served with some pickled grapes, arugula and some frisee. I love pork belly but this was a bit disappointed. It was moist but lacked a good, crisp bite to it. It was very bland and should have been broiled a bit more. The portion size was decent though, although the plate they used made the portion look tiny. Then I decided to test their cooking skills with the Spaetzle, especially since I lived in Switzerland for two years as a kid and have eaten that dish for as long as I can remember. Moments later, once the dish was in front of me, I froze in confusion. It didn't look like Spaetzle at all. Usually they long, not all chopped up. It was as though they were trying to mask something. The components of the dish tasted pretty good though, the ham, mushrooms and cheese complemented one another pretty well but the dish was fairly dry. And I don't believe that it was spaetzle. It might have been something similar but the shape, size and texture was off. On the upside my Sazerac cocktail was pretty damn good. Overall the ambiance is great but I had higher expectations for this place. Their location is amazing, right in the heart of Davis but I feel like their food falls short. Unless they improve it, I'll be making this one of my watering holes instead. The prices are fair and the service pretty good. Be warned though, the place is crowded. I know it opened recently but there's been a line every single night or just about since they opened, with a waiting time often exceeding an hour. read more

There is something about Foundry on Elm that is so utterly forgettable to me...I like the decor, the food is good, the beer list is extensive...something just doesn't click. The service is good, but the kitchen is slowwww. I find it hard to believe that it really takes 25 minutes to cook a medium rare burger when there are maybe 20 people in the entire place.
