Just left here. This is our second time here. First time was great...great service, good food, knowledgeable staff. Today was a different restaurant. Bartender didn't know how to make anything. We had 3 different servers in the hour we were there. We asked for lunch at 3p, but apparently could only get breakfast during "brunch" which runs until 4. The food was all super salty and def out of a us foods bag, preprepared fare...at $19 a dish. The pork belly in the belly and egg was nothing but overcooked pulled pork. My wife asked for the egg well done which came out completely runny. We were served warm water at the table, and they were out of just about every beer on their menu. We told the waitress about our disappointment, to which she responded "well, ya know, the pandemic" we won't be back after this experience. Seems like an inexperienced owner with an inexperienced manager (which we never saw) and a staff that all said they started yesterday. read more

Foundry Kitchen and Tavern - Amazing lunch at the Foundry. One of my favorite spots in the area. - New American Near Me - Sandy Hook, Connecticut

First, I have to get this out of the way: "long time user, first time poster". Now to the review: I live in town and have been to the Foundry many times. The location is convenient and is a far better set up than the last restaurant in this space. First and foremost, the food is really good. The menu is imaginative and a breath of fresh air from the ordinary . However, if you are someone that likes the "same old, same old", the menu can be limited. If this is you: check out the menu before you go. Otherwise, I've tried the specials on occasion, but enjoy many regular menu selections such as the short rib, "street cart" chicken and even the burger. Great place to bring the wife, a date, or to meet friends for a nice dinner. It can get a bit pricey, but it's worth it. read more

Amazing food and great wine served in super cozy surroundings. We adore this place. Loved the ceviche with grapefruit, really fresh and delicious. The salmon literally melted in my mouth and the caramel cake was divine. Wash it down with a couple of glasses of Grüner and I'm a happy gal. One star off for our waitress, because even though she did a great job serving us, it seemed as though it was painful for her to crack a smile. So much so, it felt awkward at times. That said, it was not enough of an issue to deter us from returning to this yummy spot. Updating my review by removing one star. Food is still great, but I was really put off again by the attitude of the staff and by the fact that I could not make a reservation for under 6 people, for myself and friends who were coming from out of town. I don't want to have to have dinner at 5 PM in order to ensure that they don't have to stand around and wait for an hour for a table. I should be able to book a table for 5 for 8PM and be accommodated if one is currently available. read more

Absolutely amazing! 5 stars all around. We had the watermelon salad with salmon, kale and beet salad and the vegetarian chili. Incredibly fresh and flavorful! A Gem!!!! Beautiful and peaceful atmosphere. If you're visiting Sandy Hook this is a must try! read more

Stopped in with a large party on the Friday after thanksgiving. The staff was accommodating, friendly, and attentive. The food was delicious (I had the grilled cheese with tomato soup). The venue was very cute. Overall loved it, and would give 5 stars if it just hadn't been so cold there. read more

Horrible food! Went to eat with a friend tonight and got the curry bowl with chicken, pork belly and truffle tots. Curry bowl tasted like something out of a can and the chicken had an awful after taste. Seems frozen or just old. Pork belly was over cooked dry from the way they cooked it and fried. Truffle tots just seemed like frozen tots covered in truffle oil. Overly priced and def not coming again! I paid so much money for food that is definitely not worth the price. Wish I could get my money back read more

Stopped in for a beer weeks ago and finally convinced the wife to have dinner here last night. The worlds most critical critic was impressed, great menu selection, beer selection and great all around package. I had the Ahi tuna burger and it was made rare just as I ordered it and my wifes burger was perfect. They use a their own blend of ground beef we were told. Sat out side by the river and really enjoyed the evening. I will return. read more

Excellent service and quick delivery of drinks, appetizers and meals. Great atmosphere, but more young children than I would have expected on a Saturday evening. Still, a relaxed environment with lots of charm. Appetizers were excellent, seared steak and fritters, and the entrees were solid, shrimp/fettuccine (a little bland) and short ribs (just a bit too dry). The Blondie dessert, cookie topped with ice cream, was the best I've ever had. One cocktail, two appetizers, two entrees and two desserts came to $115 plus tip. read more

This restaurant is consistently delicious and innovative with its dishes. I was so happy to find out that my family planned a surprise baby shower for me in their function room upstairs. The restaurant has a really chic rustic farmhouse vibe. The attentiveness and service was at the shower was great . Food and drinks were amazing -the guests couldn't stop raving about it! read more

Started w/ the pretzel crusted tuna with kimchi aioli, it was to die for!! We also had the Bacon and Eggs which were deviled eggs with truffle oil and bacon, bomb! For dinner I had the fish taco with yucca fries and my boyfriend had the Smoked brisket French dip, both dishes were simply delicious. I have the say the yucca fries are out of this world. Ralph our waiter/bartender and I believe he was also a manager, was so helpful and kind. Definitely coming back very soon. Great vibe and atmosphere. Can't wait to try their brunch. read more

Husband and I came on a Sat night to enjoy with some friends. They had a gentleman play acoustic music which was so loud it ruined the entire night. Even the waitress could not hear us placing our order. We just yelled across the table the whole night. At one point we just stopped talking. The best part of the night was when he went on his break. When he came back we just rushed our dinner to get out!! Otherwise we would have stayed to enjoy dessert and more drinks. AWFUL! read more

Came by on a road trip. Nice live music on the patio but was seated inside. Really loud in there from the acoustics of the place. But ordered brunch and the food was delicious. read more

We had an excellent dinner on the back porch overlooking the river. The water made the air temperature cooler so we were all very comfortable. For starters we had the short rib dumplings. The filling was cooked to perfection with a depth of flavor. The outside wrapper was nice and crispy. I had the Sepe farm lamb ragout, over grits with minted ricotta cheese. The lamb was so tender and had a rich flavorful sauce that combined well with the perfectly cooked grits. The ricotta with mint accented the lamb and grits. My husband had the brisket sandwich. The brisket was delightfully tender and smokey. Our son enjoyed the fish tacos that were also tasty. We really enjoy coming here for their flavorful, well prepared food and interesting menu choices. read more

I have been to Foundry several times and it's always a pleasant experience. I've gotten to know a few servers pretty well and always feel so welcomed there. I went yesterday for their brunch and had avocado toast, hash, mimosas and the grapefruit mojito! So delicious. And great price points for the area. This is the best, most unique restaurant in the area. Weekends are busy and there can be a long wait but the bar area is the perfect spot to hang out. Can't wait for the outdoor seating area to open up for summertime. read more

On December 17, 2021, after 7pm, I observed a female waitress with blonde hair leave out the bathroom stall, place her serving apron on person, and exited the bathroom without washing her hands. I then observed her began tending to tables. This was disturbing and concerning. Please ensure employees wash their hands every time they leave the bathroom. I recommend all employees receive additional training on good hygiene practices to ensure everyone knows that cleanliness is not optional. I don't want to stop attending because of poor cleanliness. The foods delicious and fresh. If not for that, I would've rated this experience with a 4.5 star rating. read more

This breaks my heart to write this because a year ago I would have given this place 5 stars... the food and service have gone down hill dramatically. I just went last night, my 6th trip here, and I got the nachos and inside out burger. The nachos were so soggy. The inside out burger was nearly inedible. I had to take off all the super sweet toppings and just eat the patty. I've had this burger a few times! The Foundry's burger used to be my favorite burger. Finally, the service was fine but not as friendly as previous visits. I'm sorry to say I won't be returning. read more

Food is good but it's absolutely freezing when brought to the waitress attention she smirked and said yeah we have gotten that feedback. Great place. We've been to this restaurant 4 or 5 times now and we'll definitely be going back. The food is consistently good, the decor is great and sometimes they have live music which is fun. In the summer the outdoor seating is nicely done and a pleasure to sit out there. read more

Yum! I came here with a friend after we did the llama walk with Rowanwood Farms. We sat outside on a gorgeous little porch area which was decorated with fairy lights. The view is lovely and the tables are comfy and there's a roof which means that the sun isn't crazy hot while you're dining. We were feeling rather ravenous after a two hour hike so we decided to split three brunch entrees (oink). We had the lobster scrambled eggs, the fish tacos, and the eggs benedict with duck. Everything was delicious. There were huge chunks of lobster in the lobster scrambled eggs; so generous and atypical. The eggs benedict were perfectly cooked (love that runny yolk) and the duck was tender and flavorful. The fish tacos were the star! The fish was perfectly cooked and the tacos were loaded with toppings. The yucca fries were so good; it made me mentally note that I need to learn to cook with yucca. We also had some super cheap brunch cocktails. H opted for a few different bloody marys and I went for a mimosa and a bellini. The service is quick and the staff are friendly. The only bad part about dining al fresco (and the reason for one deducted star) is that the flies swarm like crazy around the food. We got a great arm workout from shooing 1029480 flies that decided to try and crash our brunch. read more

Foundry has been one of my favorite restaurants for all the years it's been open. The last two times it has been very disappointing. Something is happened to the wait staff and they certainly aren't the mature,Attentive employees that used to work there. The food is not quite as good as it used to be. I'm hoping very much that the new restaurant is not taking away from Foundry because it really is a beautiful location and used to be fabulous place to eat. I will give it one more chance, and I'm hoping not to be disappointed. read more

I've been here for dinner, Sunday brunch, and drinks, and every time has been really nice. The ambiance is definitely the high point, but that's not to say the food and drink is lacking - because it's not. It's just a really great atmosphere with friendly service. The upstairs bar area is absolutely beautiful - perfect for a date with dim lighting and glowing candles. Architecture and decorations are beautiful. Ok enough about the ambiance. You get it. It's great. Mixed drinks and food equally outstanding. Most recently I went for sunday brunch in the bar area. There was a performer singing and playing guitar who was really great and not at all intrusive to diners. I sampled the lobster scrambled eggs & smoked duck breast eggs benedict - fantastic. read more

Last Sunday I went to the Foundry for the first time for brunch with my girlfriends. They had both been there before, I had not. We had bottomless mimosas in different flavors and we all had awesome meals. The food was great, the service was so friendly and helpful and the place is adorable! They even had a gentleman singing & playing the guitar for some nice background music. It's located in a really pretty area, too! I would definitely recommend it to friends and I would definitely go back! =) read more

From the friendly greeting, to the terrific service and delicious food. We keep coming back. A fun night out with a few couples, love their music nights and a great experience is always had. Keep up the great work...we keep coming and we keep bringing new customers with us. They too, always have a similar reaction. read more

Came here for lunch with a family member we ordered two appetizers and two entries. Octopus dish was very nice and was the lamb Terrie. Both were very good. I had the Squeeller Sandwich okay but not great or on par with the appetizers. Fellow diner had grilled red snapper. Flavors and were really good but you tell the fish was not super fresh and the stated was served with stick rice. I there is no way that was sticky rice. Glutinous rice brings something to certain dishes and sure that was the intent when dish was created but then they did not deliver. For an Asian rice is not just rice and they are not all interchangeable. I would go back and try some other interesting sounding things but lacking on execution for price point they are targeting. read more

Had a great time here tonight. Live music, craft cocktails, and amazing appetizers. Had the pig cheek, salmon capriccio and octopus. Out of this world. Could eat the pigs cheek over and over again. The wine list is so so but they have a corkage fee for byow. Our new favorite locale place. read more

Superb lunch! The place itself is an absolute gem- beautiful hard wood, tin ceiling, and chandeliers. Very cozy and nice bar too! I had the dumpling appetizer and fish tacos, which were both awesome. What an unexpected treasure! Met some local friends here for brunch and had awesome fish tacos with yucca fries, and shared the apple/blueberry/Brie quesadilla. The food was excellent; service was very attentive (water glasses refilled before empty); live music in the background was at the right volume to listen but yet not impair conversation; and the space was both rustic and warm. There were so many great choices on the menu that I can't wait to return and try some more dishes. read more

What a great spot in town. Good food, great service, and a nice view of the river. I recommend sitting outside on the deck if possible. I came here for brunch on a Sunday and had the calamari as an appetizer and pork belly sandwich for my meal. The service was quick and our waitress was very attentive. I noticed that before ordering, she asked if anyone had any food allergies, which was good because someone in our group had a peanut allergy. I admire that they take food allergies seriously. I definitely recommend this spot to both locals and visitors. read more

The worst place ever!!! The manger was so rude.....called me at home and told me that I was $10.00 short for a event .....she never looked at my check when I dropped it off. I offered to pay the $10.00 when I came to the opening event and her reply to me was " we are all booked up so either you drop off your $10 tomorrow or we will cancel your reservation " my reply was cancel it and send me back my $80 check.....she then told me that I will have to get my check and that she would not mail it....I then offered to send her a self address stamped envelope......she still refused.....I later found out that she was the owners wife or girlfriend......I hate these people and will never go back.....I hope that they fail in their business.....it's a small town and I have told all my friends about the rudeness of the Foundry read more

I visited on a Sunday afternoon with family. I suppose we were given a Sunday brunch menu. What a disappointment. Very limited selection, most items were described inadequately, prices were outrageous. I was not particularly hungry so I figured I would have a cup of coffee and a little sweet something to go with it. Underwhelming outcome: no "sweets" on the menu so I asked for the dessert menu: 4 items two of which were sold out, so I almost ordered the chocolate cake, but the $10 price was just an insult; coffee was "ok" but there were no spoons at our place settings so I used my fork; when I asked for my coffee to be refreshed, I got my spoon, but the coffee was not hot! Still craving something sweet, I asked if the kitchen had any jam or jelly that I could apply to toast served with a family member's entree. The waitress apologized - there was none. This was a dining experience to be endured, not enjoyed. Saving graces - delicious French fries, the staff was very attentive and prompt. read more

It's OK. It's an attempt at eclectic but it falls short. Some highlights are: Mac and Cheese, Burgers, Bar/Lounge upstairs. Some lows are: Asian slaw sandwich, service and temperature while dining. It is more for summer than it is for anytime during the year. For this area, nothing beats deck seating. Go with specials, menu is a bit stale. Good for kids outside not inside. read more
