We came for dinner & had soup to nuts - appetizers all the way through desert. Everything was delicious with beautiful presentation. We especially loved the pork cheek bruschetta & the Brussels sprouts. Oh, & the cocktails are killer too! The location & decor is perfect with a warm & inviting vibe. We definitely want to come back for brunch & to dine on the patio. Highly recommend! read more

My wife and I have been enjoying The Foundry for years. The atmosphere inside is great plus outdoor seeating is wonderful but always in demand on nice summer evenings. Very original menu with many locally sourced ingredients. The fish tacos are one of our faves with yucca fries and chipotle sauce I can't get enough of. The only flaw is the limited draft menu but there are a couple go to brews always available. Try one of Ralphs original cocktails like the cucumber mojito. read more

Stopped in for the first time last night. Rolled up to the bar around 930 and was greeted by a very pleasant bartender, Chris. I was pleased that he was able to offer me a "wrist breaker" liter of Radeberger on draft. The Picket Fence Pinot noir that my love ordered was a very nice offering in a Pinot by the glass. A few moments after we sat down, the gentleman came behind the bar and offered us a "sample" of a prospective new menu item. It was a very creatively done buffalo style version of scotch eggs. After chatting us up a bit, we came to find out that Clark is the new proprietor. We asked about the room upstairs and he promptly offered us a guided tour. He was more than happy to answer any questions we had about the place and provided me with a brief history of the building. As an individual who has been part of the hospitality business his entire life, I was more than impressed with my first visit. While I did not get into the menu, The energy that both Clark and Chris exhibited we're more than enough for me to look forward to being a frequent customer. read more

Went to the Foundry this past Sunday. It's a great place located in Sandy Hook and offers a nice lunch with a good variety of foods and drinks. The outdoor patio over looks a brook, and has a very relaxing setting. Service - top notch, always there for you. I plan to return soon, I had a great relaxing lunch, kicked back, and enjoyed the day. read more

Food - Mine was delicious! I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup. My hubby had the steak which was VERY fatty. For the price, would expect a better piece of meat. Ambience - upstairs was perfect. Tables aren't crammed so lots of room for privacy. And the decor is great. Downstairs was LOUD for brunch - would recommend nixing the live act and opting for a quieter option during brunch hours. BUT, I can't wait to come back at night and check out that area for a more evening/bar experience. Service - this is where I'd say our experience was lacking. It took at least 10 minutes for the waitress to take our order after drinks were delivered. Friendly staff, but slow. When we were waiting for a table, we asked to avoid the bar area because it was so loud. Upon hearing our table was ready, they still tried to sit us there. I expect this rating to go up when I return for a more evening experience, but for brunch I wasn't fully impressed. read more

This is one of our go-to places when we're in the mood for a restaurant that overlooks the water. (It's a small river, but that counts!) Great menu, good drinks, and a relaxing view from the back deck. read more

Nice candle lit dinner. Food was great we had the Blue skins as an appetizer and the French Dip sandwich as well as the BLT sandwich. We were told dressings were made in house and both got side salads with dinner which was a perfect amount. Very good food and our server was friendly and attentive. read more

We came with friends to the foundry, and I had never been there before. Here was my take: - Great atmosphere - If we were just ranking on atmosphere, design, and space - it would be 5 stars. We had great seats outside overlooking a stream, and it was just fantastic. People were having a good time, and you saw everyone from all walks of life - couples, families, and people just hanging out after work. The interior was wonderful also...a great modern but rustic feel. - Great servers - Or at least our server was great. Knowledgeable about food items, wonderful disposition (fun, and upbeat), and not intrusive. They refilled everything invisibly. - The Food was better than average. I gave it 4 stars, because it is certainly some of the best food I've had in the area, and combined with the atmosphere and servers, it's a winner. I had the Hoisin Short Rib Crepes - which tasted like solid korean bbq, but a little salty. The slaw was wonderful that came with it. For dessert I had the chocolate torte and it was really very good. Overall, this place was really, really good. It's definitely worth the drive to take family or friends for a fun place out, that has some options other than the same "Standard American Fare"you seem to get everywhere in northwest CT. But, saying that, a friend who had the inside out burger, said it was one of the best he's had. I'll be back to this one! read more

The main reason for only 2 stars is .. they use the cheapest, most God awful vodka (and I'm sure bottom of the barrel in all drinks) .... When I asked what they used in their signature drinks I was appalled ..."DUBRA" ..... disgusting!!! I asked for a better quality and I'm positive I was given Dubra .... instant headache. Why go to the extent of opening a nice restaurant with decent food and make your drinks with GARBAGE??? Never going back .... unless I am drinking water ... can't trust the staff or bartender to make it as asked. Such a headache. read more

Stopped here for dinner late one night, found them via Yelp. Really great ambiance. We opted to sit inside as there was a long wait for a table on their spacious deck overlooking the stream. Bartenders were personable and made some great menu suggestions for both cocktails and dinner. Prices are a little high ($12-18 for apps, $30 for entrees) but the food was excellent. We had the salmon with black rice and the cod with farro and both were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Dessert was a pear poached in red wine, a house specialty and it was just the right amount of sweetness. Looking forward to returning when we are next in the area. read more

One of my favorite restaurants to go to! We love to sit in the bar area when it's cold out, but sitting outside on a nice summer day is the best. We always are pleased with our drink and meals. The waitstaff is attentive and always asks about allergies every time we go. read more

A wonderful place for fresh innovative food. Great energy flows through this place from the peaceful river front setting to warm hearted employees. Everything I have tried has been flavorful, light and delicious. For brunch, I enjoyed probably the best pancakes I've ever had (lemon blueberry ricotta) with the entertainment of live local music. The burrata is decadent and a must try. The Vegetarian chili is hearty and hits you with flavor. The carrot cake was the perfect balance of sweetness. Overall one of my favorite places in Fairfield county. A true Woodstock feel in new town CT read more

We made reservations here for brunch on Father's Day. It was great to be presented with a menu full of fun titles regarding what your father might say! Three out of four of us had the "Don't Tell Your Mother" French toast! Well, it was so AMAZING, we just HAD to tell Mom! She was just happy that we cleaned our plates! Coffee drinks and milkshakes (of the adult variety) did not disappoint either. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Despite it being quite busy that day, the service was on point and we didn't have to wait long for our meal. I highly recommend this place...plan to indulge when you go there. I will definitely be going back!!! read more

A few months back we visited and had a pretty bad experience with service. Clarke reached out and apologized and ended up sending us a little incentive to try them again. (Review is somehow under a different account also called Rob A. I have no idea how that happened ). So now a few months later we decided to try again. Well it was a very different experience this time. The service was a 100% improvement and because of that we actually got to try the food. We sat outside on the deck and it was a very pleasant experience. I had the chicken Milanese and it was excellent. Nice selection of beers. Overall we were very pleased with everything and will return. Thanks to Clarke for taking complaints and customer service seriously. Hopefully bad experiences here are few and far between. read more

We loved this restaurant. Food was fantastic and the service stellar. Staff worked as a team. Meaning, we had our waitress, but as other staff walked by and saw an empty plate or glass they checked in and removed if needed. Good a stuff, hope they keep up this level on both counts. read more

We can't say enough nice things about our experience with the Foundry. We held a Rehearsal Brunch for our Son's Wedding - and it absolutely exceeded our expectations. The ambiance was great! It is a charming restaurant to begin with, but extra thought was put into making the room and table even lovelier! The food was exceptional! And Mary, our event planner saw to it that every need was taken care of. She even went out of her way to accomodate our planned menu for a guest who had allergies to dairy. Who does that? Well, Mary did! We highly recommend the Foundry for your party - or even just a lunch or dinner (we had lunch there before booking! ) read more

This place has a great vibe, cozy, friendly staff and decent food. The food for my personal experience was a little disappointing. The reviews and the menu made me super excited about this joint, but when it came time they didn't knock my socks off. We started with the Thai Dumplings, they were so-so, I feel they were not very warm like they had been made early and left out on the counter. The sauces were good, but the dumplings just felt like something from the freezer nothing impressive. Then for the entrees we tried the fish tacos and 24 hour short ribs. The fish tacos were cold and the shell was hard/soft like they didn't know what they wanted to be and the yuca fries were super duper salty. My dish the 24 hour short ribs looked amazing, but then lacked that orgasmic taste. The meat was tender and juicy but they drowned it in sauce, now the glaze was good but just way too much. The side of bacon mac 'n cheese which comes with the short rib entree was luke-warm and lacked the bacon part, could hardly tell it was there. It was just missing that BAM. It was busy but not overwhelming busy so why was the food not hot? For dessert we couldn't decide so we split the chocolate torte with Nutella ice cream and the cheesecake of the day. The desserts were great, my favorite was the Nutella ice cream; the desserts actually lived up to there descriptions and tasted great. Also, this app has wrong info this place is $$$ not just $$, for two people we spent $101.81 with tip included. We got 1 app, 2 entrees, 2 beers, 2 desserts and 1 coffee. Felt a little expensive, it was a special occasion so we treated ourself but so dissatisfied with spending that and not getting amazing food. Not sure if I would go back, maybe for lunch since its a little cheaper and maybe the food will be fresh and hot? read more

Had a family celebration/event and reserved for brunch. With the pandemic situation going on the staff was super friendly and respectful, they explained everything in a perfect manner and at all times before taking us to our table. Reservation details that we discussed perfectly carried out by management. Lilliane, our server in training was polite, courteous and very attentive, thank you for taking such good care of my family on a such a special day for us. The food was very good, well presented, tasteful and served quickly. Our compliments to the kitchen. Everything rolled out great, just the way a family event should go ! Thank you and we will return, strongly recommend The Foundry. read more

This restaurant is our go to for both a date night and a family meal. The food is super delicious, always fresh and very vegan/food allergy friendly! The atmosphere is cozy and if the wether is right sitting outside overlooking the river is a treat especially when they have live music. The cocktails are outstanding although a bit pricey. Finally, the staff is always helpful and friendly as well as attentive. Make a reservation and enjoy! read more

Very excellent service, friendly and chill. There were two rooms the louder one and the quieter one. We sat in the quieter room. Very nice ambiance. After we ordered, they came out with some ciabatta and some sort of flat bread. It was paired with warm olive oil. Both breads were very good. i got the French Dip Brisket, and it was delicious. While the brisket was very juicy, and tender. The fries that came with the sandwich, were also very good: Crispy with a hint of salt. Bottom line: Will come back if I pass by Sandy Hook again. read more

Good but did not meet my expectations after reading about it here. One of the main issues we had was the metal dishes the food was served in and with metal forks it was a bit like squeeky chalk on the blackboard. Sort of like prison dinnerware. Good service but pricey for what you get. Tried it two more times , once was very good. The next time we ordered the scallops which cam again in a metal pan. For $22.00 you got a few plain scallops with soggy bread crumbs on the top, very bland. Three strikes and you're out with me. read more

The Foundry hosted us following my mother-in-laws services. There were enough of us to be upstairs in the fabulous little room they have. The service was fantastic, friendly, kind and generous with us even though they were staying late. The food was delicious, they had provided us with a small, wonderful little menu. We were not rushed at all, despite the late hour. I highly recommend this lovely place. read more

One of my favorite places to go when I'm in the area Relaxed dining in a wonderful atmosphere. Whether dining outside on the deck, in the bar, or dining area, the service is superb. Waitstaff is attentive, efficient, knowledgable, and friendly. The menu has plenty of variety without being overwhelming. I try to have something different each time and have never been disappointed. And if the great atmosphere, service and food aren't enough, on most Wednesday and Saturday evenings, you can enjoy the sounds of the extremely talented singer Drew Bordeaux. read more

Had a chance to check this place out. First, they have radeberger on tap! Excellent beer! So excited they had this!! We started with calamari with a Korean ketchup sauce which was perfect. I had the fish tacos which were a miss for me. The fish to topping ratio was very unbalanced. Way too much toppings and a very small piece of fish. The fish got completely lost in the condiments. They were almost overstuffed with condiments and too many. Would love to see these scaled down a little maybe do smaller street taco style with less condiments. I will however say the quality of all the ingredients including the fish was excellent. So kudos there. Yucca fries that came with were probably the best I've had anywhere! Hoping to come back and check some of the other menu items out soon. read more

Went to the Foundry twice in 2 weeks! The first time, my friend and I ordered the hummus platter to start. It was creamy and delicious, clearly housemade! For mains, she got the chicken milanese and it was to die for! Two huge, pan fried chicken breasts paired with parmesan cheese and a crisp arugula and tomato salad. Such a delicious combo! I ordered the hacienda salad, which made me far more full than I thought it would! Great combination of Mexican flavors. My only problem with it was that there was no dressing listed on the menu, yet it came with a relatively heavy and creamy dressing. Not a fan. On my second visit, we just had drinks. I love their tap offerings, but the cocktails were lacking. An updated cocktail menu would be lovely! read more

My husband and I had dinner last night here. They informed us that there's a new chef and the specials were all his creations. So we tried an appetizer from the specials menu, chicken friend mushrooms. Omg. It was the best part of our meal! We loved it! The rest of our meal was good, but paled in comparison. It is clear the new chef is going to do good things! We loved how many veggie friendly options there were too! Amazing! read more

It's good to see a restaurant at this spot that looks like it's going to last! The food here is great and covers many different genres. My favorite is going there for Sunday brunch. They have several dishes that are great for the Sunday morning blues like the aptly named "Hangover Noodles"! They have great cocktails and beers. Try the Manmosa if you can. If it's a nice day you should try to get a table outside, the deck overlooks the stream. They have plenty of high chairs and we've taken our 20 month old there several time over the past 6 months. read more

Not a bad word to say! I've been here a few times now, mainly for lunch. I'll be honest, I've ordered the inside out burger everytime, but I simply crave it now! The burger is cooked to perfection and such a great combination of additions. I've always brought my 2 year old nephew, and the staff has always been accommodating and pleasant towards him. Food comes out timely, and fresh, and the everyone is always so kind! You can tell they enjoy working and helping each other out. Can't wait to go for dinner this weekend and check out some live music in this laid back atmosphere! Well done foundry, well done! read more

Overall, it was a good experience. The wait staff was incredibly attentive. The atmosphere was comfortable with a good vibe. The menu has a good selection, but it was a bit pricey. I've read the reviews about the quality of the products and what not...that is to be debated. The outside seating is incredible with great views! I ordered the sourdough grilled cheese which was semi-decent. I felt that the sandwich had been sitting a little bit before it had been delivered to my table, as the cheese was firming up. The tomato soup wasn't really soup either. It was thick and chunky, but had decent flavor. I did mention something to the waitress about the sandwich and it was sort of brushed off, as I didn't really make that big of a deal about it. My girlfriends had the veggie burger and some bbq sandwich which were pretty good. read more

Terrible experience. I will never go back as they were unprepared for us. We had a party of 6 and they made us sit in the bar instead of the reservations I made weeks earlier. The fried Chicken was burned and the calamari tasted like it was frozen from shoprite with canned tomato sauce. I spent over $400 and went home upset and hungry read more

I've been here twice now and each time was amazing. This is my favorite restaurant in CT. I've ordered specials off the menu each time which were really tasty. A great menu with enough stand-by classics and unusual offerings (often with international inspiration) to please any diner. I've never been disappointed. Tonight we were in a hurry, so we had ceviche and "hand-helds". My husband's falafel was delicious...especially the homemade pita bread. My grilled fig and cheese sandwich was a nice pairing of sweet and savory. Quick service, too! Just came back from another night at the foundry. Wonderful meal! I had the duck confit special and rich had the salmon with red miso glaze. We shared the pretzel-crusted tuna. Never disappointed! read more

The reviews on this placed were great, but I left disappointed. We stopped in for an early dinner and were seated on the deck. The menu was interesting, with a good variety. Decent wine and beer selection as well. We enjoyed everything we had. The problem was the service. We had no less than six people come to our table. One brought drinks, someone else brought part of our appetizer, the other piece of the app came with some else. No one seemed to know what the other had done or who ordered what. This was the first really nice weekend that made eating outside possible. Maybe it was just getting the kinks worked out of handling those added tables. Spoke to a friend who loved the place and had never had a bad experience. Maybe it just wasn't our night. read more
