I get home and first flag, the to go bag felt light.. so we opened up the containers and the subs were 8"? Maybe a little more, but no where the size we had last time we went. You may want to go over it with the cashier because they may know a combination order that would save you money, and try to stay away from ordering anything "large." Small or regular sizes should be large enough for you. The best thing about Foster's Grill in Warrenton is their strawberry shake. It tastes delicious. This is a must try. Whatever sandwich or meal you order, don't forget to order the strawberry shake. If you like chocolate better than strawberry, order chocolate next time, for the first time order the strawberry shake. They have a very good hamburger with plenty of meat. Their hamburger meat has a delicious flavor. Their onion rings are another must try. They are cooked just right and have a great tasting batter on them. I didn't think their fries were anything special. Their Philly Cheesesteak is also a good sandwich to order. It comes with generous amount of cheese and meat. You place your order at the counter, fill your own drinks, find your own table or booth, select your own plastic spoons, forks, & knifes and paper napkins. Your meal is delivered to your table and that is about all the wait staff service you receive. The atmosphere is more like a fast food atmosphere. Nobody goes to Foster's Grill for the atmosphere because that is not on their menu. People go to Foster's Grill because their food tastes great. It's clearly intentional), the food options are somewhat limited, there's no actual menus other than the little order form slip. If it was priced super cheap, fine. Foster's Grille is good. Nothing more, nothing less. We stopped for dinner on the way home from a friend's house and we had been thinking about the sign above the door that said "home of the char-burger." It made our mouths water! When we actually got the char-burger, it was okay. The burger did not have much flavor. Neither did the grilled onions that I had on top of mine. The bun was cold and we had to ask for a new one. The replacement bun was also cold. So we had to ask again for a grilled bun for our char-burger. This time it worked. The bun was warm with some nice grill marks on it. But, of course - guess what - the burger was cold. Go figure! The onion rings were - wait for it - okay. There was real onion inside which is a plus but the breading was an industrialized mix and it was rubbery. Some of this review makes the food seem worse than it actually was. The food is not bad. It just isn't that good. If you have the word "char-burger" above your door, make it great please! There are also a lot people working there. They were pleasant enough. Rolled through the ole Foster's grille for some late nite wings last week after slaying some bass fishing for a few hours. Ordered 50 of those lip smackin things and you could hear them drop those suckers in the oil from the Rip Van Winkle Motel. Got em to the table in record time and I've gotta say they were delicious. Hell of a deal on the 50 count Only knock on the joint was the southwest sauce was basically just a tangy bbq so may need to flip the label on that bad boy. Great ice out of the machine, Coca Cola was nice and crisp for us and the booth cushions had a nice bit of squish to them. Stopped into Foster's for a quick lunch. I hadn't been before and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful in explaining how their ordering works. I kept it pretty simple: 1/2 lb. char burger, American cheese, ketchup, pickles, fried onions, an order of fries, and a drink. Food was out relatively quickly. Fries were piping hot so I started with the burger. It's definitely a good sized patty and the roll also has a great structure so that it all holds together without getting messy. No patty slipping out of place. By the time I got to the fries, good as well... A nice mix of some they were crispy and some that were that little bit of soft (which I like both varieties.) My wife paid and I asked about the price. I did feel it seems a little pricey for what it is, though I think it's the reality of prices creeping upwards in all the food industry. Not impressed, went into eat at 1130 in the morning as part of the first rush for the lunch crowd. The system was awkward at best. Approach the counter place your order by submitting a paper order. All I had was a simple cheese burger and soda. Then I sat down after getting my drink. Took me about a half hour for them to bring out my meal. I have been eating at Foster's since Shawn Foster opened his first location in Manassas in 1997. I was friendly with Shawn and even had a personal relationship outside of the restaurant. We frequented his restaurants to include many Foster's locations and Catfish Lewie's back in the day. So, I'm an old school customer. Having said that, I am conflicted in writing this review and I don't say this lightly, but I've simply had enough. I can't speak for all Foster's locations, but the one in Warrenton that I have been taking my family of 6 to for the past 6 years has just gotten out of control. The food is fine, but it is in NO WAY worth $160 (w/ tip) for what you get. Additionally, while there was supposed to be a burger meal deal they DENIED us the discount AND my wife, who is a local educator, was NOT given the discount even after asking for it. I mean seriously... Come on. I truly hate to complain about a restaurant chain that I have been going to for almost 30 years. While I can afford it, the question becomes, should I? It was a boys weekend while my wife and daughter were away and everyone wanted burgers and milkshakes. We decided on Fosters since it had been awhile. They have remodeled the inside since our last visit and it's nice and clean looking. Three of us went with the 1/2 lb charburger and fries and the youngest got chicken tenders and fries. We all ordered shakes (2 chocolate and 2 strawberry). The shakes came out pretty quick and were delicious. It took a little while for the food to come out but it was worth the wait. Then I made my mistake. I asked for 2 extra patties, no bun, no toppings, they are for my dogs. The young man acknowledged that dogs need to eat too. I get 2 patties, onions, mayo, ketsup, no bun. I went back to get this corrected. Did they happily correct the mistake...hahaha. No. I got an argument about what I ordered. I was told I got exactly what I ordered. My first order was made wrong. Waited nearly 20 minutes and my pain rings were room temperature. Then forgot my ff order. I called and spoke with the manager since i already left on our ride to Shenandoah but he offered to remake it AND wanted to offer a coupon for a future free meal. Even though this place has been in Warrenton for what seems like an eternity, it took my somehow coming across their menu & seeing "Turkey Burger" to get us to give it a try. Non-red-meat-eating husband LOVES a good turkey burger. So yesterday, after a grueling dentist appt. & some shopping, we stopped in here for a late lunch - 2:30 p.m. There were only a couple of tables occupied, & two folks ahead of us ordering. This is the type of place where you fill out an order form - one form per person - hand it in, pay for it, & are given a number to place on your table & they bring the food out for you. I went for their original "Charburger" & added ketchup, lettuce, tomato, raw onion, pickles, & for an extra $.85, Cheddar cheese. Made my order a "basket", which included seasoned hand-cut fries & a non-alcoholic refillable beverage (they also serve beer & wine). Husband went for the turkey burger, with all of the above except the pickles & onion. It wasn't at all crowded, & frankly I'd be leery of placing an order here when it was, because it took quite a long time for our food to arrive with just two people placing orders ahead of us. In fact, one gentleman who came in after us waited around awhile & then, after a quiet exchange with the counter person, just left in a huff. That said, we weren't in a hurry, so waited patiently. And we're glad that we did. My "Charburger" ranked high on my personal burger-meter, & husband ranked his turkey burger as one of the best he's had. The "charbroiled" flavor was present without being overwhelming & toppings were fresh & crisp. Thin, hand-cut fries were very tasty, & even though they lost their luster after cooling - which nearly all fries do - we were both still able to finish our portions. Malt vinegar on the table was a nice touch. They also offer wings with several sauces, salads, several different chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, a vegetarian burger, & "for a limited time only" - a "Beyond Meat" burger. So pretty much something for everyone. Bottom Line: Bill came to $24.27, which, while it might sound high for what is essentially a fast-food restaurant, was equal to the quality of the food. After years of driving past Foster's, I thought I would stop and get a burger to go. Busy day, hadn't had lunch yet, thought I should try it out. Stepped in and gave my order. Restaurant was practically empty, with one employee up front and a whole staff back in the kitchen. Employee struggled to write down my order, so I helped him fill out the paper slip, then I watched him bring it back in the kitchen. 37 minutes passed. During that time, I watched that same employee flirt with a high school girl, giving her food and condiments, while I sat patiently waiting for my "fast food". When we hit 37 minutes, I gave him a look and he went back to the kitchen where the Spanish-speaking cooks were arguing that they had never received the order. So he pulls a blank slip and looks at me sheepishly and says, "Huh, could you remind me what you wanted on your burger?" I said no way, I want my money back. It should not take 40 minutes to order and receive a burger in a fast food joint. How this place stays in business is beyond me. I demanded my money back, the manager came out and offered me a coupon for a free lunch, which I turned down, because I don't want a free meal on them at some future date, I wanted a quick bite then and they wasted 45 minutes of my time. I was excited to hear that Foster's grill had been renovated. Folks were talking about how nice was inside! "It shows well" is the way your realtor would describe it. Nice, new furnishings and finishes, it's obvious that some money was spent on the update. Unfortunately, they did not invest in technology to bring them into the digital age. They still use the arcane ordering system that I loathe. You fill out a slip of paper - one per person - and then hand it to the cashier who reviews your order, sometimes "enhancing" it with a marker (because the pencil they supply apparently isn't dark enough?). The cashier then enters your order into the computer, collects your money and gives you a table number. Why, oh why, can't you be normal Foster's and just let me tell the cashier what I want? You then go and sit either inside or outside (with the traffic noise) and wait. And wait. And wait. Then you can walk to the bar for another beer - since you've finished the first - to complete your wait. It's here! The food is here! Yay! I wish I felt that way when I was done. It was OK. Nothing memorable, but overall I felt that the burger was too well done, the fry portion a little on the skimpy side and the onion rings were nice. But the beer? The beer was good. Local craft beers on tap as well as those watery big name brands. So, if you're looking for a place to get a cold beer after your trip to SNP, stop in, it'll satisfy your need. Never have been unhappy with food at this location. The food is fresh and the service is always friendly and fast. Unlike most places the food actually comes as advertised. The burgers are well prepared and delicious. Had the wings today and they are some of the best in town. This branch was updated in the last year. I got the special burger, chili burger with an onion ring on it! It was really juicy, and tasted like it just came off the grill at a BBQ! The only thing I'd change is to put more chili on the burger, they seemed kind of stingy with it, and it's call the chili burger after all, I was hoping to have it running down my arm!
