This restaurant chain was nostalgic for us as we used to live in a town that had a Foster's Grille, and our kids' swim team would often go there after meets. Now, many years later, we were excited to find that a Foster's Grille was on-route for us as we traveled between central Virginia and north-central West Virginia. Food (rating: 4/5). Patrons customize their orders by filling out a "ticket" at the counter; meals are delivered to your table. My husband ordered a 1/4 lb. Charburger combo, which included fries and a self-serve 12-oz (refillable) fountain drink. His free customization included lettuce, tomato, pickle, and grilled onions. Other free options included mayo, ketchup, onion, relish, jalapeños, hot sauce, and bbq sauce. Additional options, including cheeses, bacon, chili, and mushrooms, were available for a modest up-charge ($0.95 to $1.25 each). I ordered a Foster's salad with grilled chicken, with honey mustard dressing. (There was a choice of 6 dressings). We split our entrees, and everything was very good and as remembered. As for the burger, it was tasty but the 1/4-lb burger was overwhelmed by the size of the bun. Next time, we would order the 1/2-pounder to avoid that problem. The salad was also tasty, featuring a nice mix of salad greens, 4 wedges of fresh tomatoes, croutons, sunflower seeds, cheddar cheese, and the grilled chicken. We were impressed with the mixture of greens, and the fact that the packet of salad dressing was nonfat. As the chicken was sliced quite thinly, it was somewhat dry. Each entree was a good value, at $9-sometime each before taxes and tip. Ambiance. (3/5). We sat at a booth table that was comfortable and clean. Our main issue was that the rock music was much too loud. Service (4/5). We only interacted with staff at the counter (taking our order) and the server who brought our food. In both cases, staff were efficient and got the job done but neither was particularly friendly (nor unfriendly). Location. (5/5). I arrived after 1pm, and the place was pretty empty, indicating they weren't busy. I started using their odd ordering system, where you fill out your own slip of paper to select what you want, and I noticed there was no way to indicate the desired temperature for your burger. I asked the person at the counter if they cooked burgers to temperature, and he said they did, so I wrote it down. I indicated that I wanted my burger medium-rare and saw the employee take a marker to highlight it and write in big, bold, blue letters "Medium Rare" so it was clear. It took more than twenty minutes for my order to come out, and it was well done. They offered to recook it, but I didn't have another twenty minutes to wait, so I asked for a refund. They did not know how to issue the refund, however, and had to call someone to walk them through it because there was clearly no one in management available. They told me they think they did it, but the point-of-sale system wouldn't print a receipt showing proof that it was refunded. After spending more time on the phone, they figured out how to print a receipt that didn't state it was refunded, but merely indicated that the transaction was "voided". All in all, it took forty minutes when they weren't busy for me to walk out without anything other than being hungry (hopefully I get the refund). read more

We really like the char-grilled burgers here. Their fries are really good as well. They have paper sheets which have all the menu items and all the possible condiments you can have on your food. You simply circle what you want and give it to the cashier. They do now charge extra when using a credit card. read more

I'm a big fan of Fosters Grill! The fries are delicious and the choice of toppings can't be beat. The hamburgers are delicious, but today I had a grilled chicken sandwich. Unfortunately, the grilled chicken tends to be over cooked and a bit dry. Maybe the fried chicken would be better? I have to give today's visit three stars and not the usual five. read more

Stopped by at Foster's Grille in Marshall, as we were in the area. Apparently this is only one of few locations in Northern Virginia area. Liked the interior decor and style. Old school retro, with arcade and a car up on display indoors, gave off the Archie's vibes. I had the Hot Bacon Blue, with a vanilla milkshake. It was decent. Table had onion rings and fries on side, banana shake, another burger, and the Philly Cheese-chicken. I will say, the server people delayed our order. Also they marked fried as to-go order and forgot our onion rings and had to be reminded. All in all, this was good bang for the buck at least, and food was decent and somewhat good. Staff has no idea what their doing. Brought wrong food to table when clearly numbered. Then the next person, to bring the food, basically threw the orders on the table and said here, figure it out. Oh by the way, the orders were wrong. Lived in Marshall fir 33 years. Worst place in the wonderful town to eat. Food is mediocre at best, service has gone way, way down hill and the price is so far out above wher it should be. The only good thing about it, is the chocolate shakes and man tgat should be there to make sure things run smoothly is Jacob Rogers. Will never be back. What a disappointment. read more

We are always a fan of Foster's Grille. Locations are always kid friendly and usually have a dog-friendly patio with water bowl provided. I find that the value is much better than what you get at a place like Five Guys. (We love Five Guys, but when your husband orders a plain burger with absolutely nothing on it, it gets expensive.) With Foster's, there are some free burger toppings and other which cost extra. I prefer it this way so we don't have to pay extra for a boring plain old hamburger (like the hubby gets lol). Anyway, this location has a little arcade section and a big fenced in patio. Food was great and service was great. We've been to this location a few times and will likely be back again. read more

Not to be mistake for Fosters Freeze. The burgers were okay. Not sure how they won the best hamburger in Virginia Award. Me thinks they photo shopped it or something. Ordered carry-out on 3/9/23. Two sandwiches, one fry, one salad, two drinks. Food came out in good time but I realized the bag was light. They forgot to add the salad. Had to go on my phone to tell them what dressing was supposed to be on the salad but they did fix the order. Tonight we ate at Foster's Grille for the first time. Our burgers were cooked well. They provide many options for toppings on burgers, and even have options to add onto fries. The girl that took our order was very sweet and offered to help us build our own burgers since we were new to the establishment. Only complaint I would have is that I think the food is a little overpriced. Overall though, I would recommend others give this place a try! read more

This was a great small find! Easy and quick access from the highway, and they were open until 9pm. The food was really good and the service was excellent. 10-12 Beers on tap and milkshakes and a couple arcade games. For the love of GOD please get rid of the paper forms the customer has to fill out prior to ordering they are a huge waste of time and paper (and probably money) We can't ever fill the forms out correctly, and then the person working the register has to go over the order with a marker to ask questions, then verify the order with you then input the order in the computer. It's super annoying and pointless. Just take my order ffs. On top of everything else today I ordered their beyond meet "char burger" and I had to write in it a space called "other" im the form.. then when I wrote "char-burger" I got a regular meat burger because apparently I was supposed to write "plant based". Nowhere on the stupid form does it say that..so how is the customer supposed to know??? Oh yeah that's right, the cashier has to read it all and make it look like a football playbook before imputing it into the system anyway- It doesn't make any sense, filling out the form is not necessary. Im over it. Please Fosters listen to your customers and ditch the stupid forms. Aside from that the food is good, I like it but I hate the forms the place would be so much better if they would just let the cashier take your order since she has to type it in anyway- huge time saver... Good spot for lunch if you're in the area. Also a great spot for outdoor dining (patio on the side) if the weather is nice. The service is slow, but the staff is very nice so that makes it much easier to deal with. There's also an ATM here, just in case you need one. read more

I was in the area for an event and happened across this place on a trip to food lion. The service is exceptional and the food is spot on. Burgers cooked right, the dogs are freaking delicious! Only suggestion is put some kraut on the menu. WOW... They have some of the best burgers around, they really do! Burgers were meant to be flame grilled, not grilled o a greasy flattop, like other places do. Foster's does it right! They have a nice menu, with plenty of options, including healthy options. They offer some nice shakes too. The toppings for the burger were nicely done and perfectly added! Speaking of love, there is one worker there who will forever and always make my day. Her name is Alexa and she has always been the biggest sweetheart to me for the past year! Seems like your typical run of the mill fast food burger place, nothing special but nothing terrible. The burger was so over done I just threw it away. Used to visit this establishment a lot when it first opened. It was delicious and kept us coming back.
