Everyone was so personable from the minute we walked into this elegant manor house. Cocktails and conversation were on point. The dinner service just flowed effortlessly like a well thought out symphony -- each dish took us to a higher level of culinary bliss as we were lulled by the expertly paired wines. Owner/Chef Dane stopped by our table at the end of meal and was so delightful to talk with. We had a terrible storm during the dinner service, apparently a tree went across the road nearby and knocked out their internet service preventing them from being able to check us out at the end of the evening. Their response -- don't worry about it all -- we will just give you a ring sometime tomorrow and take care of it; what more could you ask for -- just classy in every way!!!

Omg so many thoughts on this experience…read more I'm so glad i didn't immediately know it was a restaurant located in a hotel. This prob would have deterred me, even a little bit. The Apple map directions here confused me a little due to this, but parking was really plentiful so that's a huge plus! I went on a Sunday morning and lo and behold there was a hole farmers market or pop up set up all through haymarket! Busy weekend for a brunch but haymarket is SUCH a cute little vibe and town with so many hidden gems, like this one!! Literally every single item I saw waiters bring out from the kitchen looked so scrumptious, every person around us immediately began digging in and enjoying their meals...and honestly, no crumbs were left behind pretty much every time. We started ordering a yummy cocktail. I was really in the mood for the Paloma with grapefruit juice but sadly they were out of grapefruit juice fortunately, they had plenty cocktails available that were not explicitly on the menu! I ended up having a delicious espresso martini, prepared, right and honestly, I would have had another!! Not too sweet. Not creamy. And with 3 beans. Impeccable no notes. I ordered the red House breakfast. Man those home potatoes were so delicious....they clearly cooked them seasoned deliciously and then flash fried, so crunchy!!!! Amazing. I found that their execution on their meals was really impressive. My sunny side up eggs were cooked perfectly and paired so yummy with the toast. The bacon had delicious flavor too. I ordered a biscuit because I had heard that their biscuits were really yummy but unfortunately they did not have their bacon biscuit so it was just a classic biscuit. It was good, certainly dense and clearly homemade. My girlfriend got the poutine. Looked so delicious and was really enjoyed! The gravy was thick and flavorful! We sat down and enjoyed plenty of conversation and a really nice environment. Nobody rushed us, service was just the right amount of attentive without interrupting conversation constantly, and the floor to ceiling windows let in beautiful natural light and views of the town. It was the perfect brunch spot for a low-key, but delicious meal. Just a hair out of the way without being too far. I came out with a really good friend of mine to celebrate my one year wedding anniversary with her and it was the perfect possible location. Shout out to the staff for being so welcoming and kind, and even taking a picture of us when we asked to commemorate the occasion. I'm sure they are used to people walking in to the hotel lobby looking as confused as I was looking for red House Tavern.

The food was average at best when it came out. Super disappointed. We came here for my mom's 5 year beating cancer anniversary and it wasn't much of a celebration.

From the moment we sat down, I was handed a personalized menu noting my birthday -- and truly, details matter. We started with a few apps, delicious cocktails, and of course, their wine program is out of this world, really showcasing the beauty of Virginia wine. You can't go wrong here. The smash burger was a hit, and I especially loved the asparagus and gazpacho. It felt like a little adventure around the farm, with a serious slam dunk on comfort food. Best part: they didn't flinch when I mentioned my allergies. They went out of their way to curate dishes for me, even off-menu, which I appreciated so much. Anytime you're in wine country or just desperate to escape the concrete jungle for a meal this is your place.

The service was superb, attentive and knowledgeable. We started with cocktails which thankfully were not overly sweet. The starters were excellent - tomato & peach salad, fried corn ribs, and loaded crispy potatoes were especially good. For dinner we had the lamb meatballs, bison steak and Cobia. The Cobia was a little overdone and dry, as were the lamb meatballs, but the tomato curry sauce on the pasta was superb. It paired well with a nice Italian Barolo. The deserts were very tasty - a seasonal berry sundae and a deep dish brownie. Overall we loved the service and the fresh local ingredients. But the entrees didn't live up to our expectations after the starters. Next time we'll try the tasting menu, as I suspect that part of the menu is getting more love and attention from the chef

The minute we walked in we were seated early and the staff was so friendly and welcoming immediately and the ambiance is very warm and chic. Multiple employees gave us friendly greetings. The Chef's tasting was tastefully prepared and there were some additional items not on the menu. The Japanese milk bread was delicious too! I really loved the rockfish and the Braised short rib. Each course was beautifully presented and the seasoning and flavors were perfectly balanced. We were really impressed. The chef came out to introduce himself and it was nice to be able to compliment him in person. He's been there just over a month, I think, and he is doing a phenomenal job! This is such a welcome experience out west in the south. I highly recommend checking it out. It was about as good as Clarity in Vienna or 2941 in Falls Church. Dress was business casual and definitely a nicer place for more of a date night or special occasion. We wouldn't bring our children here. We were full at the end but not stuffed. Comfortably satisfied in our bellies for sure!

I feel like I was being punked!!!…read more The vibe and the service was great but the food was terrible!! I felt so misled by yelp and Washingtonian!! The price point (145/165) is not deserved for what is served. I didn't want to leave a bad review but I didn't want people that actually go to fine dining establishments to waist their money. To be a little more specific on the food, everything was either too salty, disproportioned, frozen(deserts) , stale( bruschetta and the tuna tartar cone) or just not cooked well. I wish this place well, I will not be back. And I just want the young servers to know that their customer service was great, they were very polite and friendly.

Would gladly come back. -Brussels sprouts: delicious. Roasted and topped with parm, bacon, and balsamic glaze. As with all Brussels some bits are charred and a little too toasty for me but really yummy. -Marry me chicken: it's rich- a lot of cheese and cream. Portion is huge. Tangy sundried tomatoes cut the richness and was actually tender. I enjoyed the better as leftovers and I don't know why. Mashed potatoes creamy, buttery delicious. I don't like spinach so I got it with a side of green beans. -Green beans: good but cooked and seasoned unevenly. I still liked it -Grilled mahi tacos: I enjoyed this the most. The taco shell isn't a taco shell, more like a flatbread or naan toasted. It has a variety of textures and flavors - pumpkin seeds, jalapeño slaw, avocado sauce, and pico. It's bright and punchy and delicious. Comes w fries -Sweet potato fries: so yum. Crispy outside fluffy inside Cheese pizza: a lot of cheese- a little too much for me. The restaurant itself is lake themed with beautiful wood paneling, floor to ceiling windows, centered around a cozy fire place. I made a comment that it'd be perfect for baby/ bridal showers and my friend said people actually have weddings here. The interior is matched by an even more beautiful view. They offer outdoor waterside seating on their deck. It looks to be screened in/ have windows so you're not exposed to the weather. Service was great/ attentive.

My friend and I stopped in for cocktails upstairs at the Night Fox Pub-- where Kevin created marvelous nicely balanced drinks, and what a charming spot! The historic atmosphere is absolutely beautiful, and it felt like the perfect place to relax and enjoy the evening. We ordered the artichokes and lobster mac & cheese, and both were fabulous! We even ended up sharing the dessert donuts with some friendly neighbors sitting at the bar, which made the whole experience feel even more fun and welcoming. I can already tell I need to come back and get properly spoiled with dinner here. Between the beautiful historic setting, delicious food, cocktails, and genuinely friendly atmosphere, the Red Fox Inn has definitely earned a spot on my Middleburg favorites list. I'll be back!

My interpretation of the gist of what everyone was complaining about was that they used to come here all the time (as did I years ago, but it's been a year since being here) and they didn't like the new, slimmed down menu... and they definitely hated the prices here now. Our service was ok, nothing special. I feel like the majority of the servers are very young and might not have the training, nor experience to understand what true service is, not just taking orders and bringing food. The menu was nice. We liked their "Everyday is Sunday" section of the menu, so we tried 2 orders (4 persons) of the pork chop tomahawk and 1 order (2 persons) of the Côte de Boeuf. We started with their Scotch Egg - WOW! Really flavorful with a great texture, inside and out. Definitely a very nice way to start. Cocktails and wine were a hit here for sure! Especially Jarad's G&T, which we got a couple of. Main dishes were great! Plenty of food too!! The spices on the crust of the porkchop tomahawk were so tasty and the temperature was spot-on! The steak in the Côte de Boeuf was incredible! Perfectly seasoned and at that absolute perfect temperature too! The carrots that came with this were very nicely done, but the potatoes stole the show! This dish came with OUTSTANDING Fondant potatoes... They had a great, smokey flavor to them, as if they were basted in pork fat. The meat was perfectly textured and flavored. Overall - While this is no longer the Hunter's Head that many came to know, love, and enjoy, I feel they're doing a decent job here. I'll definitely return, as I want to try their fish & chips!
