Taste so tenders taste homemade and you can tell it's real chicken; the only fast food I'll eat

I've been wanting to try Layne's, and the report back is that it's okay. I went with the simple 3 finger meal for $11. Order took about 10 minutes despite them being understaffed (communicated at drive through and inside when I decided to go inside for take-out). THE ORIGINAL CHICKEN Not bad...could have been crispier and maybe a tad hotter. I might try the spicy next time. You can tell it had been hand breaded. LAYNE SAUCE Not bad...peppery, celery, mustardy, creamy...yea it was pretty good. Just make sure to check they actually gave you the sauce before leaving! FRIES Not bad...hot and crispy...crinkly...went well with the Layne Sauce TOAST Pretty standard. OVERALL It's okay. I don't think I'd make a special trip here. There's a Popeyes in Haymarket, and there's at Raisin Cane's in Manassas. You can also get pretty decent fried chicken at grocery stores... I might try it again, but I am in no rush. read more

Originators not imitators phrase is very real here. Layne's chicken fingers is probably the best fast food chicken tender out there. The service was fantastic, Kay the GM took our order and was very helpful since it was our first time. The inside was very clean and well kept. The chicken tenders were seasoned perfectly and super crispy. The sauces were so good as well especially the Layne's sauce. Fries were on point and toast was amazing. Wish we had this closer! Stopped in to visit Layne's Chicken Fingers in Warrenton, VA this afternoon. Layne's is a Texas chicken finger chain. They opened for business Monday of this week (March 3, 2025). Layne's occupies the space that previously housed the Burger King in Warrenton. I was interested due to the fact that they advertise "spicy" chicken fingers as an option. The place was pretty busy when I arrived around 2:00 pm. I got in line and the line went quickly - they had 2 registers open. I ordered the 4 piece meal with spicy chicken fingers. It comes with crinkle fries, Texas toast, and a drink. I wanted a milkshake - but they were all out. The guy running the register commented on how popular the milkshakes have been. So I opted for a bottle of water. You also get to choose to add a sauce to your order. I opted for their signature sauce: "Layne's sauce." I also added another sauce - the Jalapeño Ranch. Paid with Apple Pay and they gave me a number to take to my table. Food came out in less than 2 minutes. The chicken was hot, crispy, and delicious. Nice heat, not overwhelming, and the chicken was very tender. The crinkle cut fries were hot and crispy and cooked perfectly. The Texas toast is just a piece of toast - so kind of underwhelming compared to the chicken fingers and fries. Both sauces were tasty and had good heat. This place was awesome. FIRST, the atmosphere. The ambiance. It has a little shelf area that has different hot sauces you can have with your chicken fingers. Against one of the walls, the wallpaper is made up of historical drawings that people would create for the original Layne's chicken that I think was next to Texas A&M University. These were really good and I'll include some here in the review. Next, let me talk about the people here. This service was QUICK! I feel like maybe five minutes passed, but I want to be honest because it might have been either a longer wait that didn't feel that long because of the atmosphere, or really only five minutes. Or maybe even less. I don't know. The people behind the counter were really nice, and patient with us as we picked out our sauces and the meals. Ok. The food. Here we go. Let's start with the toast. What in the world. It's toast. But it's a thicker slice of bread, and it's buttered PERFECTLY. Think of that perfect slice of bread, toasted and buttered to perfection in your mind with that perfect melt in your mouth buttery chew. Literally Perfection. Well close to it, because Layne's does it better. Trust me. Moving on to the fries. These things were hot. HOT. Some were crispy and some were slightly crispy with a nice bite. Finally, the star of the meal. The chicken fingers. These were hot too. The whole meal was TEMPERATURE HOT. Fresh. But anyway. These fingers. I expected "fast food" chicken, right? Maybe comparable to other local fast food chicken in the area. Right?? Well. Layne's Chicken Fingers, pardon me for assuming mediocrity when yall just knocked the ball out the park. I'll call it a Grand Slam. This is REAL chicken with real flavor and real freshness. This isn't fast food chicken compressed and put through a machine. I'd be shocked if you told me they didn't have a chicken farm out back, that's how fresh it tasted. I'm not sure how they fry it up, or what oil they use but it's my favorite type of Chicken Fingers. The flavor is incredible, and some parts have a crispy little edge to it. If you're in the area, definitely give this spot a chance. read more

Driving back to DC from Shenandoah, his was my first visit to Layne's Chicken. I just wanted a quick meal that wasn't a burger. The chicken tenders were perfect. We tried the chicken fingers as that is their specialty. I thought they were moist, hot (temperature) with a crispy outside. They tasted good and the honey mustard was tasty too. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. Service at the counter by Isabella and at our table by Selena were friendly and helpful. Honestly I wanted to love their 5 piece chicken meal but I thought the crispy coating tasted burnt and even smelled burnt, it was also quite oily which is to be expected. The fries was ok just crinkle fries nothing special imo and the bread is just fried bread. As much as I wanted to like Laynes I don't think I'll be returning unless it's a Sunday. YMMV. read more

So far food is very good! But the young guy at the drive through window doesn't know the difference between a receipt and a food pic list. Asked for receipt and he closed the window and attempted to ignore us while we sat there and he stood there staring at us until he finally opened the window and we had to explain that the pic list isn't the receipt of what we paid. The Spanish lady was very nice and helpful with our orders but there was a guy there that I can bet all my money he was cracked out or something he kept looking at us stupid when we was asking him for our cousins online order. He saying there was sum guy that picked it up already like that was gonna fix the problem he made us stand there not knowing wats going on thankfully the Hispanic lady came and saw we was still there and asked if we been taking cared of we let her know what happened the guy made us sound like we was tryna get a free meal out this place or sum meanwhile the bag was ALREADY put to the side which HE LOOKED AT 3 times saying it wasn't our order the Hispanic lady was the one that read that bag name and gave us the online order moral of the story get bro out of there that was my friends first time trying laynes he said he going back to canes for all that service. I really wanted to like this new place in Warrenton, and my first visit will be my last. Disappointing is understatement. I was greeted by a man wearing a filthy dirty apron.. supposedly the cook? I should have taken a clue. When it was delivered to my table, the appearance was not good. But I was hungry, and ate one of the "fingers." But they were more like greasy clumps. Even with the Layne Sauce, they weren't good. They were greasy and it seemed like more clumpy coating than actual chicken. Then the fries were Crinkle fries... just like Ore-Idas at the supermarket, but were super greasy and not edible. I live for good fries, but these were not good. Sorry, but that's the truth. And what does one do with the piece of Texas Toast that comes with the meal? Just eat a piece of toast that doesn't seem to use real butter? I don't know how long it will stay in business in Warrenton, but we'll see I guess. I just wish they'd use fresh chicken, some tasty spices in their coatings, and perhaps even offer an AIR FRY option for those wanting to save on the processed oils and calories. And maybe fresh french-fries (like 5 guys) instead of Sysco same-ol same-ol fries. There, that's my review. I'm not going back. Chick-fil-a ALL DAY. Laynes isn't a viable competitor.
