Food and coffee are good but sometimes the staff is forgetful. Frequently, I've ordered food and they either don't alert me on when it's ready (despite being told to wait outside), and/or the food I received is made improperly. Haven't wrote a Yelp review in a long time. But this place is really Yelp worthy! The butcher was super knowledgable and gave great cooking suggestions. At the beginning, I thought the meat was a bit pricey (compared to supermarket similar quality meat) but after cooking it and devouring it... It was absolutely incredible! The chicken breast was so tender, juicy, soft, just amazing! Honestly both my boyfriend and I thought it was one of the best chicken we have had! The sirloin steak was also really good! Still need to cook up the herb sausages... Overall, really glad this new place opened and will defiantly be back for more! Oh, also they have bread from l'imprimerie! I really really wanted to like this place - it's super charming and pleasant inside and I love a good cheese shop. Unfortunately, the experience left me with a poor taste in my mouth. I tried two different cheeses, one of which, the Brie, I'm pretty sure was spoiled. My other cheese selection was just okay. I've had much better at my local grocery store at about half the price. The service was a little unfriendly. The cheesemonger was kind, but the woman at the register almost made me feel like I was wasting her time or something. It was just an odd feeling. Crazy that 5 years ago, this spot was a not-so-appetizing KENNEDY fried chicken (Bushwick wasn't fancy enough for a Kentucky fried chicken spot). But the times, they are a'changin'. This place is a hipster's dream. they have various dairy free ice creams, fancy siracha and 5 different kinds of organic oranges. The cheese & meats selection is lovely; I am truly a fan. I'll chalk it up to the place being new, but it took a half hour for me to get a bacon, egg & cheese on a biscuit that I was told was only going to take 5-10min. The quality is very good on almost everything! It would get five stars -- but this holiday season 017' our family was shopping several times and the butcher shop did to listen when a customer asks for 1/2 pound of something and then gives you 1lb of it... feels kinda of greedy on a consistent basis lately, especially if you are a loyal customer. Update 01/02/17 Foster is also very kind and extremely astute when it comes to the cheese world ... kudos to him for having such a needed and place. I do agree with one review on "The Sarah Lawrence" comment ...LOL! The newer staff needs to work on being more down to earth. This would bode well for Foster and the customers-) Finally, the tomatoes in season are out of this world and the eggs are always fresh. read more

BEST BREAKFAST SANDWICH IN NEW YORK. I know it's a bold statement, but I stand by it. My boyfriend and I started going here to buy meat and other groceries (if you live in Bushwick you know how hard it is to find a great grocery store.) Then one glorious Sunday morning we decided to have a breakfast biscuit sandwich and our worlds were changed. I can't say much other than its simple and effing perfect. It's also MASSIVE. My personal favorite is the sausage and egg biscuit. The biscuit is crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside and sweet and buttery. The egg portion is huge and cooked perfectly. The sausage is something really special which makes sense as it's a specialty meat and cheese shop. It's hard to describe other than its the best breakfast I've ever had and will ever have. The cheese ties it all together. On other Sunday occasions I have ordered the Green Eggs biscuit which really shakes things up it's sautéed collard greens, green salsa verde, and raclette cheese. I can't lie that my heart misses the classic perfection of the sausage and egg though. We now come here almost every. Single. Weekend. Hungover? Breakfast biscuit. Hangry? Breakfast biscuit. Sad? Happy? Breakfast biscuit. It doesn't hurt that they also make a mean cup of coffee. Get it to go, eat it on the bench outside in the sun, sit at the counter with a magazine and a latte. There are lots of solid grocery options in the neighborhood, but for us, FS is filling in the some very specific cheese and meat gaps. I can endorse the following: high quality unconventional cuts (trotters, oxtail), whole chicken, bacon, topo chico mineral water (first sighting in BK), green beans, Gotham Greens, the seed and sourdough loaves of bread from l'Imprimerie, pimento cheese potato chips, butter, any of the candy at the register, and coffee made by Barista Owen. While the meat/cheese/produce all look great, I got a heady topper here and it was definitely skunked. They let it get warm and it spoiled. They have 4 on the counter that are all room temperature, which are also spoiled. The beer isn't pasteurized so it has to stay cold the entire time and if it ever reaches room temperature it will go bad. They should throw out all their Alchemist beers instead of selling them. read more

This review is only for the iced coffee and bacon, egg and cheese. And holy crap is the bacon, egg and cheese somehow worth the $8 you have to pay. The bacon is thick cut and crisp and greasy and amazing. The biscuit it comes on is buttery and flakey and delicious. Eggs and cheese are good too, but we both know who the real stars are. The iced coffee is good, too! Nothing special and $3, but they have almond milk at no extra charge. Haven't tried any of the meats, cheese or other sandwiches, but they have an aged Gouda that I have literally been looking for for weeks, so that alone will make me come back. read more

It always feels awkward, vaguely unpleasant when you step up to pay. Great butcher shop. I had seen this place a while back through a bushwick daily email and was interested in going but never got around to it. I thought it would be neat since my great grandfather was a butcher in the same neighborhood back in the 1940s. I went in this past weekend for a few pounds of short rib. I made the mistake of getting it from Whole Foods a few weeks ago and while it was decent, it was rather pricey (not that i was surprised). Foster was about $2/lb cheaper and the meat was fresh. How fresh? The guy brought it out of the freezer with the hook still in it. Told me where he was going to cut, made sure thats what I wanted and offered to cut it down to thirds when I mentioned it would be going in a dutch oven. The woman behind the checkout counter was very nice as well. Will definitely be back, sooner than later. **Also, for the person below who said something about people in the neighborhood not being able to shop there with EBT, please GTFO of here with that BS. This neighborhood has gone through huge changes in social class standing/race/ethnicity and every demographic you can think of since the 1900s. No one is forcing people to go to independent shops like this, that's why there's grocery stores like Food Mart for alternative options. You get what you pay for and at this place, its quality meet and while the price may seem "expensive" know that 1) you're supporting a local shop and 2) Whole Foods is more expensive. read more

every time i go here, the workers are visibly annoyed and ignore my politeness. they also don't make eye contact during the entire transaction as though paid more to do so. this has nothing to with the pandemic, but since i've lived nearby i've noticed the abrasive quality of the transactions. i'm also very confused by the unspoken, weird celebration of buying meat adjacent to the coffee. seems like nobody's critical of this. it's unfortunate because it's nearby and decent coffee, but the ethos of the place could use improvement. read more

I ordered a breakfast biscuit with egg and cheese and bacon. More than 8 dolllars. They wouldn't make it with a fried egg instead of scrambled. I said okay. The bacon was almost raw and the egg was hard cooked and tasted like it was from a mix. I should have gone to the deli on the corner and gotten one for $2. It would have been better.
