Fortune has good food but weird seating, and weird hours. they also don't deliver to the room in the attached hotel. when we went down to eat, they made us go out the front door of the hotel and into the door of fortune, although when we wanted to go back to our room they let us walk through the lobby. it's all open. it didn't make any sense. we stayed for one drink and left. the DJ scene was NOT it. i hate to leave a bad review on a vegan place because there's so few of them and i am a vegan... but very disappointed.i came with my fiance to celebrate my birthday and didn't feel satisfied and the floor was very sticky. read more

My friend got the espresso martini and they did a great job. I didn't like anything off of the menu but the bartender was very friendly and will to make a fun potion for me so I asked for something with vodka, refreshing and not sweet with passion fruit and he made an amazing passion fruit mojito that was very refreshing and not sweet! Couldn't taste the alcohol which is a very well done to the bartender but dangerous haha I highly recommend this drink to anyone who likes clear liquor and low sugar. Cute decor and seating and a splendidly elegant bar, the wait staff were easy to order from and helpful enough. Lived in Portland 25 years now, and this was my first time here. Located in the historic Sentinel Hotel on SW 11th just past Morrison, Fortune, is a bar, restaurant (vegan) and nightclub. We were here for the bar. We stopped in to enjoy a beverage while waiting for a table to open at Mucca Pizzeria around the corner. This must be a common pre-dinner drink spot as the bartender greeted us with a hello, and are you having dinner here or just a drink before your table opens? Well, done, on the read! I'm not much of a cocktail drinker these days, even though that is what Fortune is known for, so I ordered a glass of red. The red was a cab sav, perfect. My friend ordered Shinobi's Honor, a craft whiskey cocktail invented by our bartender when he awoke in the middle of the night with an idea. And named after his dog. Love the backstory! The cocktail had an incredible presentation, with dry smoke releasing once he removed the cover. A blend of Sentry Toki, Fernet Branca, Meletti, Vanilla, and Oak smoke served over a block of clear ice. Other than the last two ingredients, I'd never heard of any of these liquors. My friend totally enjoyed it. Dark and moody inside, plenty of bar seats and a few conversational couches and seats by the window, it was the perfect place to start our night. read more

Had to come back when we were downtown. The 100% plant based menu is worth the parking experience. The French dip was amazing, meaty and cheesy with a soft and slightly crusty roll. Also got a half portion of their Mac and cheese which was a lot of food for only $6! Creamy and salty with a nice crunchy topping. The cocktails might be the moneymaker here, but the food is what brings us back! Ok, the cocktails are also very good. No pics due to the low light and limited visibility inside, but the mules kick ins good way :) Seems to be primarily a hotel lobby bar (with really good food) so you order at the bar, take a number placard, and then your food is brought to wherever you end up sitting. There were some folks on a sofa watching sports on a big tv, a large group around a table, some small groups scattered at various small tables. Lots of tucked away quiet spots to get cozy. read more

I really enjoyed my meal here. I came during World Vegan Month and tried their special that benefited Oregon Humane Society. It featured the Bordelaise Burger, the sauce was so good! I needed a spoon to slurp it all up after burger was devoured. I loved the space, plenty of comfortable seating. I want to invite all my friends and family to join me here. Probably when it gets lighter in the evening. I drove here and it was hard to find parking. They open at 4pm. When it is lighter in the evening, I will be using the Max to get here. Very confused why Fortune has such low reviews when the vegan food here is so tasty and the vibes are cozy. The vegan mozzarella sticks are absolutely delicious with gooey filling that perfectly complements the marinara sauce. Don't resist the temptation to savor every crunchy bite! The chicken burger here is iconic and an exact replica of the McChicken at McDonald's from the creamy mayo to the sweetness of the bun and the delightful texture of the chicken. And let's not forget about the seasoned crunchy fries. Unfortunately, the bacon mac n cheese didn't quite hit the mark for me, as the sweetness was a bit overwhelming. I am reviewing Fortune as a bar and restaurant. I cannot comment on Fortune as a club, as I'm too old for clubs and will not patron during those hours. FORTUNE HAS AMAZING VEGAN FOOD!!! And listen, I'm not vegan. My homegirl is vegan and wanted to take me out for my birthday. I had genuinely been wanting to try this place, so it seemed perfect. When we arrived (Tuesday evening), we were greeted by a mostly empty space. I wasn't mad about it; I really wanted to cozy up on one of the couches. Sadly, we were alerted that they were out of all their mac and cheese. Booo!!! Nonetheless, we ordered drinks at the bar and started out with the Parmesan & Rosemary Garlic Fries and the Mozzarella Sticks. That Watermelon Margarita is FIRE. Not too sweet at all. I ordered two. The food came out rather quickly. I didn't like that they did not provide us with any napkins. The fries were DELICIOUS. I loved the Secret Sauce. My friend was thoroughly enjoying dipping her fries into creamy vegan sauce. THE MOZZARELLA STICKS WERE AMAZING!!! I'm writing this the next day and I want another order of the Mozarella Sticks. Did I mention that I am soooo not vegan? These are the best dern mozarella sticks. I would never order mozzarella sticks at a bar. Deep fried cheese? I'll pass. But, these bad boys are like deep fried sticks filled with cheese sauce. My word!!! Okay, I might need to go tomorrow just for a shot of green Chartreuse and an order of Mozzarella sticks. Yummmmm!!! Okay? Moving on to entrees (they did bring napkins and silverware with our entrees). We settled on the Cauliflower Bowl and the Bakon Jam & Gruyère Burger. Fortune knocked it out of the park again. My burger was fabulous. The bakon was crispy and everything involved was just mouthwatering juicy. My friend's Cauliflower Bowl looked plentiful. She said the chickpeas were great. This is a popular bar in downtown Portland connected to Sentinel Hotel, and a good spot to go to on the weekend with friends. They have a cute photobooth inside and there's often a DJ playing live music. Service when I went was only okay, and the cocktails were also alright. read more

Awesome bar with cool moody lighting and fun events! Went on a jazz night and it was very cozy... Chicken sandwich was soo good. I cant believe they can make vegan meat have the same juiciness, tenderness, and flavor as actual chicken. The mozzarella sticks were amazing as well, not too stretchy, but a bit more gooey, flavorful, and warm. Chipotle mac and cheese was good but sat a bit heavy in my stomach. I think it was also a bit too sweet overall, and the bacon bits were a tad bit too salty. Go with the chicken sandwich and mozzarella sticks for sure. Ahhhhh none of the staff from February when I last visited was there. The bar staff was all new. Thank goodness. Because service was VERY good tonight. We arrived a bit after 6 and found the cozy couches available and snagged them. We ordered a Cabana Boy, 10 Barrel Beer, Cabernet, Wilderton Negroni, Roy Rogers, Shirley Temple, 2 nachos, 2 Out and In Burgers and a Nashville Hot Chicken. First of all, the bartender remembered everything. I forgot if I had told her the Cabana Boy & she thought she'd forgotten one of our meals. We confirmed everything & I opened a tab. Our food and drinks all came out pretty quick. My son and Mom both had the Out and In Burger; my daughter and I had the Ultimate Nachos and my husband had the Nashville Hot Chicken. My mom notoriously never finishes a burger or sandwich when we eat out. EVER. And she finished it all. She is a carnivore and said it was delicious. She also loved the fries because we both prefer shoestring fries and crispy fries. My son usually complains about some feature of his burger or won't have his fries. He LOVED his burger. And actually ate it all. He said it was his favorite burger he'd ever had. Which is HIGH praise. My daughter was ALL about the nachos until she saw they were jackfruit. I said "Ellie, have I ever lead you astray with food?" And she said "No. I'll try them." Well by the end of her plate she was saying "mmmm Mama, those Nachos were SO good." Exactly kid. My husband ate his Nashville Hot Chicken SO fast my daughter got a TINY taste (she loves spicy food!) So that was his way of saying he loved it. I have had almost everything on the menu, and the nachos always made me feel full without feeling icky so I got those. The chips themselves were WAY thicker than the previous chips he'd used but I think they handled moisture and the heavy food better than the others. So maybe that's why the change, I'm not sure. I didn't prefer the taste as much to the others but they held up. Delicious as always. I am glad we stopped into Fortune, as the sole reason for stars last time was Papi's food. Everyone in our party agreed from the senior, to the kiddos that the food was great! This time the service was great too. We will be back!! Can't wait to have more of Papi's food!!! read more

Stopped in for a bite after a concert, pretty quiet on a Sunday night but a lovely, cozy vibe. The bartender was friendly and helpful! They offer a small vegan menu, we got a couple of things and enjoyed them all but- the mac and cheese is life-changing. It's a curly cavatappi pasta with a house-made cheese sauce and fake parmesan on top. It has a super nutty, cheesy flavor profile and is the best thing I've eaten in a long time. The bartender admitted that it was a struggle not to order it for every shift meal. The steak sandwich was large and tasty, the seitan was very tender, and the parmesan fries were good. Can't wait to go back and try more stuff, but if it's your first time? Try the mac n cheese. read more

If I was just rating this place based upon what I ordered I would give it 5 stars, but I was the only one in my party that thought my burger was delicious. I had the Bakon Jam & Gruyere Burger which I thought was yummy, but my mom and husband had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich which wasn't nearly as exciting. I tried a bite, and I have to agree it was rather on the bland side. Everyone wished they had ordered what I had. We also had an order of Mozzarella Sticks, which was thankfully enjoyed by all. My gosh this place is SO WONDERFUL!! I am a pescatarian who eats a mostly vegetarian diet and has become very sensitive to lactose. When I come to Fortune I can order anything on the menu! This is not something I can do at most restaurants so this is a huge win for this place. I have only been here earlier in the day for drinks and food. From what I understand this place is more like a club in the evening. Food and drinks are all ordered from the bartenders who have all been very nice and great with recommendations. The kitchen gets the food out quickly and it has always tasted amazing. I plan to come back as often as I can so I can try everything on the menu! The vibe in this place is so cute! I love the colors and wallpaper. They also have a great photobooth in the back. It does not produce paper photo strips. All you photos come to you digitally via text. Fortune PDX is a trendy bar on SW 11th! Enter through the hotel or the street side door with the neon sign above (we tried a different locked door that had an a-frame sign misleadingly pointing at it - oops). They ARE checking vaccinations, as posted on the door. I didn't see this on their website or Instagram so just a heads up! I stopped by because Plant Based Papi, currently in the kitchen at Fortune PDX, was running a weekend menu special based the favorite fast food burger place of every Californian. Super smart promo for all the transplants, and amazing to create those food items in a plant-based way! If only the actual company would do so. Food was a 5/5. The bartender let us know there might be a bit of a wait but it came out in 15 minutes - no problem. It wasn't necessarily a direct copy of what it was an homage to, but honestly it was better. The sauce was pretty similar (which is amazing for not having animal products). The fries were amazing. The burger was thick (lots of lettuce) and the Impossible patty had a charred flavor. The drink was 3/5. I ordered the watermelon sour margarita. It was smaller than I'd hoped, in a cool glass cup that looked like a candle holder. The candies on top were a nice tough but the flavor of the drink didn't taste all that watermelon-y or sour. There was lots of ice. Fortune's atmosphere is a cool vibe. Maximalist patterns, bright green paint, some neon signs. Adjacent to the Sentinel's hotel lobby so it's a great option for visitors. The music was a tad too loud for my tastes at happy hour time (~4:30pm). I think Fortune benefits from having Plant Based Papi in their kitchen and I hope they partner together successfully for a long time to come! Used to be one of my favorite places. New menu is terrible and the bartender was rude. Started off ordering two cocktails off the menu and was told they didn't have the ingredients for them. Ordered the Mushroom Pate Slab. The menu clearly says it comes with baguette slices. Which it absolutely needs. When they brought it out and it didn't come with it I asked the bartender about it. Bartender became rude and defensive and argued that they were an "add on" and an extra cost. We also ordered the Mac and Cheese Croquettes just like it reads on the menu. They brought out the Croquettes and a side of Mac and Cheese. When I pointed out that we didn't order Mac and Cheese the bartender was again rude and tried to blame it on us. Even though that is exactly what it is called on the menu. Also ordered the Steak Frites. It lacked flavor and was dry and was a disappointment to say the least. What a terrible experience. Stayed in the hotel on a Saturday night and this place was packed enough to have a line. DJ was playing top 100/throwbacks/hiphop and a very mixed crowd. Food was hit or miss for my palette but my vegan partner loved the croquettes/cheeseburger. But the main reason for the review; quality cocktails in a club setting??? One of the bartenders (Grey?) was the star of the show. We ordered from the drink menu which had a lot of interesting flavors, some classics, and we even had him do dealers choice. I live in NY and found the drinks comparable to our highly rated haunts there. Despite it being busy the man was in his element. He still took the time to talk with us and give recommendations around Portland for other spots to visit. Highly recommend if you enjoy a high energy vibe or people watching on weekends. We had soooo many things we wanted to try, but apparently they shorten their menu on Tuesdays, so we had to take what we could get. In the photos you'll see everything we ordered.... My confusion is how this place is so overpriced.... I'm not sure how an appetizer, a sandwich, Mac and cheese, one taco, and a couple drinks added up to over $100. We literally just went to an upscale restaurant in Portland and the ill was only about $20 dollars more for substantially more food. Additionally, the food was not great. Mac & cheese was lacking in flavor, the Elote had almost no sauce on it... completely dry, the chips were burnt, and I took one bite of the sandwich and gave the rest away. I would get the taco again, but that's all. However, HOWEVER! I will say our service good, we did have to keep getting up to ask for things, but I guess this is just more of a bar vibe. But everyone was kind and responsive. And the ambiance of this place cannot be matched. It is GORGEOUS! Every inch. So, I'd just skip the food and come here for some drinks and a relaxing night. God this place sucks. I remember when it was Jack Knife and it sucked then too. First, the layout is off big time and it feels weird to have all this seating yet order at the bar. WHERE ARE THE BAR STAFF?! The cocktail menu sounds good, but the bartender on a Sunday evening doesn't know how to make a basic martini (although bonus points because she did ask clarifying questions and at least didn't wing it). Why is that poor girl the only one working? Why is she making drinks that she doesn't know how to make and also cooking food? (she explained to some other patron that they couldn't order something because she doesn't know how to make it...) Why is the service so bad? This place is NOT safe for women. My friends and I went here on a Saturday night and a number of us were grabbed, or even forcibly kissed, on the dance floor. No one noticed and the men were not escorted out. However, two of my friends were kicked out for bringing their drinks with them into the bathroom. Which totally boggles my mind - are women supposed to leave their drinks out in the open at the bar unattended when they use the restroom? Are you kidding me? Absolutely backwards values and overall an extremely uncomfortable experience for a group of women. We will not be returning and I highly encourage women to steer clear. read more

Unassuming cocktail bar with one of the best gluten free/vegan experiences I've had by far. The atmosphere was lively with a Jazz band playing in the background (every Wednesday night). The attention to detail and the service was remarkable and everyone was so friendly! The menu is seasonal and we started with a charcuterie board with cheeses from Cultured Kindness that were out of this world. The taste and texture resembled that of spreadable cheese and the house-made bacon jam only elevated each bite. The gluten free bread (not normally offered) was toasted perfectly with garlic oil and complemented the cheese and the other accompaniments. We also had a bakon wrapped date with a cashew cream cheese filling which was out of this world. This is a MUST-TRY item, don't sleep on this dish. For our main, I had the vegan shawarma bowl with cauliflower rice that was delectable, creamy, and balanced with roasted veggies. We then finished with a shareable gluten free brownie topped with a blueberry compote and Oatly vanilla ice cream! Recently discovered this place & was craving a chick'n sandwich as I always prefer a vegan chick'n sandwich over a burger. Reading the description for the Nashville chick'n sandwich sounded delicious! "Dos hermanos brioche bun, chicken fried oyster mushroom, Nashville glaze, angel hair purple cabbage slaw & spicy mayo with kosher pickles" Now I hate mushrooms. Since I was a child. The texture. The fact that it's a fungus. Bleh! I would pick it out of any dish I have. You'd have to hide it or minic it up good for me to not detect it. Haha. No joke! So I felt a bit brave to go for it. I've only been once and there's a whole lot to like about this place. Even tho there are a few aspects that could have been better on this one visit. Atmosphere: Highly Interesting and open vibe. Lots of options for seating and quite comfortable. Service: we arrived shortly after opening and it appeared there was only one person working. He seemed uninterested in having us there. And did not tend to details like providing silverware or following up after food was delivered to see if all was ok (both are basic restaurant staff behaviors). Menu: A variety of cool sounding vegan options. Super appreciative that it's all vegan! Would be even more impressive with a wider variety of choices. Food: The burger I ordered had excellent texture and deep robust savory flavors. A truly excellent burger with pickles, onlon, a small bit of lettuce and some sauce. Would have liked it even more if it was less salty though, the salt was a bit overpowering. Pie and ice cream for dessert, which was a real treat! So glad this is offered here! The crust was superb and the filling was nice, real berries and good flavor, only caveat is that is was a bit overly sweet which took away from the fruitiness. The vanilla ice cream was excellent.
