There's a lack of Chinese restaurants in the St. Louis Hills area, excluding Emperor's Wok and the scary looking Panda Pavilion farther east on Chippewa. Fortune Express is right next to Ted Drewes and has pretty good food for cheap. I first tried them several years ago and was less than thrilled with the orange chicken so didn't go back for awhile. But I tried them again recently and it was quite good. Granted I stick to basics like fried rice and egg rolls, but everything was yummy. Weirdly enough, you can actually order on their pretty primitive looking website. You can choose delivery or carryout, but it lets you select credit card for delivery, but doesn't accept your credit card info. After I submitted my order I was a little worried about that so called and she said she would have to take it over the phone. So I'm guessing she would have called me if I hadn't called first. read more

I've driven past Fortune Express many times over the years without giving the place much thought. Just another nondescript Chinese takeout and dine-in storefront, right? Well, nursing a monster cold and feeling a desperate medical need for hot and sour soup, I made my first visit to Fortune Express two days ago. Now I wonder what took me so long. I ordered hot and sour soup for $1.30, expecting a cup of the usual gelatinous, bland mixture featured at similarly modest establishments. What I received instead was a large, steaming hot bowl of soup comprising a flavorful broth and other choice ingredients. All that for $1.30? My mind reeled. With so much soup, I could eat only half of my half order of plain egg foo young, the rest of which I packaged to take home with me. Yesterday, I revisited Fortune Express for another helping of hot and sour soup. As an accompaniment this time, I selected a half order of vegetable fried rice, which was neither overly greasy nor saturated in soy sauce. Plus, it was prepared spicy, per my request. My entire order, including a cup of hot tea, cost less than $7 with tax. Service was quick, friendly, and altogether accommodating. I plan to make my way through many of the rest of the dishes at Fortune Express--and consider myself fortunate for having finally "discovered" this gem. read more

I eat here often....well more like whenever i'm at my fam's house and they want chinese. Now, if you wanna know my go to place for good ol' St Louis chinese food, (the best) go check out my reviews. No doubt good fried rice....good gravy, if you're into that, good egg foo young, and good crab rangoon, which you usually get free if you order enough food. Just like any other rice house. And ok chicken dishes. Just not the best. There a little pricier than what i'm used to paying, too. read more

We ordered take-out. Terrible food! Crab Rangoon, pot stickers, fried rice, General Tsoe's chicken, Mongolian beef all tasted old and stale. The pot stickers and Crab were so stale they were hard and tasteless. It was all horrible. Won't order from them again. read more

Don't listen to the negative reviews. This place is AMAZING! Order was convenient and on-line. Food was delivered quickly and was very warm. Ordered sweet and sour chicken and beef and broccoli combo plates with an order of crab Rangoon. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. We'll definitely use them again! read more

Absolutely delicious. I always go here when i'm craving chinese food. Never disappoints. Been eating here since I was 6 and I've never eaten anything here that i didn't like. Just amazing. Their crab rangoon is to DIE FOR. I LOVE IT!!! Great chinese food overall. 10/10. read more

Fortune Express - pad thai - Chinese Near Me - Saint Louis, Missouri

They have free delivery with an $8 minimum. The place was small, but clean. It is sandwiched between Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate and Ted Drewes. If one where to play their cards right, 2000 calories in fifteen minutes is very possible. The parking was a bit of a hassle with the ice cream crowd. There is a television inside for the short waiting period. The spicy chicken combo was tasty. Typical combo includes the main dish, ham fried rice, and a choice between one egg roll or two crab rangoon. I was not impressed with the rangoon. read more

Quick and good. All staff actually wearing mask over mouth and nose. As opposed to KFC where the employees wear mask on their chin

Amazing food. Free delivery. Decent prices and good portions. I get the general tsos, potstickers, special fried rice. This place gets busy so be prepared to wait just a bit. Also I noticed the cooks in back working hard! They were flying around and I saw at least 5 people back there, glad this places employs a bunch of people :) The general tsos did not have a lot of breading as previously stated. It had excellent flavor, slightly sweet, some kind of umami thing going on here without being salty? Very good. The potstickers were huge! Obviously hand made. The sauce was good but a little different. Had a little vinegar in it? Kinda sweet and salty. I liked it but I would get some soy sauce if you don't like vinegar. Just a bit of it in there though. I could also be wrong here if that's what the flavor is. Special fried rice was excellent. Huge portion with large pieces of tender beef and chicken, not too salty Crab Rangoon were your typical crab Rangoon. Again all portions were huge and my food was very, very hot. Too hot to eat even after driving home. Also, bonus on how the chefs somehow cooked my order fast and worked hard without getting sauce all over my boxes. That happens sometimes. Doesn't bug me, but it's nice. Also about the other reviews - hot braised is the usually sweet everywhere I've been. I had it hot once and i actually like it like that but I expect it to be sweet usually. About general tsos chicken and Chinese food in general - it will be different everywhere you go. They are almost all small family owned businesses with each chef doing his own. Don't like this heads particular style? There's a Chinese food place for everyone and i love this one! Will go back again, mainly because the price is good, portions are good and food is good too! read more

In a word, NO. I ordered egg rolls, crab rangoo and general tso's chicken. It took an hour for delivery which was acceptable. The food was hot. The egg rolls were too crispy. The crab rangoo was not eatable. It tasted as if the oil was old and too many different foods had been cooked. The general tso's, which I ordered mild, tasted like no other order I have ever had. Not a good difference. When I ordered my food there were some star ratings and they were decisively wrong. read more

Thought we'd give it a try since they've been around forever. It must be decent, right?! Nope! Picked it up and drove it 2 minutes home. Orange chicken was completely soggy, veggie Lo mein had no taste, and even crab Rangoon had almost no filling. The only decent part was the general Tso chicken, which somehow managed to stay somewhat crispy. Blech. After we picked through it, a majority went straight in the garbage. read more

Not the best Chinese you'll ever have, but for the price it's pretty solid. We always get veggie lo mein, plain fried rice, and crab Rangoon. The guy who runs the counter is really nice and they deliver for free if you are in Lindenwood Park. read more

Every time I go to Ted Drewes I always smells something amazing and always assumed it was this Chinese place. I was wrong. Today I stopped in to try my luck but I rolled snake eyes on this one. I ordered the Hot Braised Chicken (boneless) with pork fried rice and Crab Rangoon. The best thing on the plate was the fried rice. It was piping hot, sticky, flavorful and left me wanting more. Sadly the rest of the dish didn't fare so we'll. the chicken was covered in a breading of some sort and obviously fried, and then doused in sauce. The sauce was pretty sweet, and since it was HOT Braised Chicken I expected it to be spicy, but there was zero heat, only sweet. And the breading on the chicken soaked up the sauce and just because this soggy smooshy stuff and then came off the chicken as soon as you pierce it with a fork. Disappointing. Then there was the Crab Rangoon. They give you two but they're small and there's hardly any filling in them. There couldn't have been any more than a half teaspoon of filling in each one. It was like biting into a plain fried wonton wrapper. I don't think I'll be back, but I will still search for that great smell outside Ted Drewes. read more

I would highly recommend not trying this place! Their Vegetable Lo Mein has no flavor whatsoever and they tasted like they were cooked in and old seafood oil and were packaged with noodles on the bottom with a few vegetables on top. We also ordered dumplings and the menu said pan fried but they were deep fried! The appetizer combo we ordered was lackluster and tasted like it was fried in old oil, and there was no dipping sauce included! Lastly, as a connoisseur of crab rangoon these were the worst Crab Rangoon I have ever eaten! They were not creamy and they tasted like they were old. Definitely tasted old like the other food and probably had to do with the oil they were fried in! Unfortunately there is so much better out there! read more

I had this place delivered earlier today. Easy set up on the website, and they resolved whatever credit card issue they had before. Delivery is free within 3 miles, which is awesome. $15 minimum delivery, but you also get something free if you spend $15. That makes no sense, but at least I get something "free"? Everything was really hot when it arrived. I got the hot and sour soup. It's a bargain and really tasty. At the advice of another reviewer, I tried the St. Paul sandwich, which I'd never heard of. I wouldn't do the chicken again because it made for weird texture, but I liked the taste. Mmm mayonnaise. The orange chicken was weird. Good flavor (cabbage, oranges, and all), but the outside was too mushy for my taste. I got an eggroll to make my order cost exactly $15, which was standard/good. Also got free crab rangoon, which had a lot of extra fried wonton-only parts (my favorite). Definitely will get this place again since it's close and cheap, but I will have to pick a different entree. Pros: price, portion, delivery (free) Con: textures lol read more

Decent take out, gives you deals for ordering more, huge menu bad for making decisions, doesn't nickel and dime you over napkins, soy sauce, etc. Missouri charges tax on take out and other foods (which should really never be taxed and is an unfairly large percentage for the low income). Anyway, it's your basic neighborhood chinese. Workers very nice and they give you good value. I just like all of the other good options you can get here where you're not stuck with pizza and Chinese. Maybe I'll like it again with some distance from college. And who is going to get take out if they just tax you regardless? Bleh. read more

We were pleasantly surprised by the quick delivery. We ordered the orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken combination plate. All of the food was hot and delicious. We especially enjoyed the fried rice, really great flavors. The crab Rangoon was a little hard. Nice amount of yummy veggies with my sweet and sour chicken. Will definitely order again. read more

Wonderful people whom make fabulously fresh, delicious food at a fair price and serve good t graciously! One of my absolute fav's! Check them out, you'll see...... read more

Freezer burned crab rangoon was dry and mealy. Orange chicken breading literally smooshing into the sauce as you attempt to cut through it. Fried rice was okay. One of my only delivery Chinese options, but next time I'll be driving to pick up Chinese Express on Clayton. Thanks for the prompt delivery. I cannot remember a time in recent memory where I've had Chinese takeout/delivery that tasted this bad. : I read more

NEVER EVER AGAIN ! My girlfriend and I have ordered from this place twice now, and both times we have gotten so sick. We have thrown up, had diarrhea, horrible stomach pains, nausea, indigestion. It's been the worst experience by far. The chicken didn't look like chicken if you know what I mean and it was soggy. The crab Rangoon were just covered in oil and too floury. My girlfriends appetizers were also covered in oil and too floury. Her shrimp noodles she couldn't even get down. If you can avoid going here, DO IT ! read more

Awesome little place for Chinese food. Food was good and I loved their fried rice. Service was also great. read more

Trash food I'm from Texas and decided to give this place a try and wow I regret it I literally threw my whole plate away

Let me start off with this used to be my favorite Chinese restaurant. However they must have changed owners or something. I ordered the same dish I ordered every time. This time it was awful, no flavor whatsoever. The fired rice the same way, sadly I've had frozen Chinese food way better than what I was served. The crab Rangoon also taste like it was old and refried he. To sum it up I took a few bites of each and threw it away. Very sad to see this. If under new management or cooks I suggest you go back to how you cooked before Don't think I'll be back for quite sometime. read more

Everything was delicious. Delivery took under an hour. Arrived fresh and hot. We order apps, soup and lo mein. Husband has a fish allergy and they followed my request to keep separate. Give it a try. read more

Free delivery, fresh hot food. Great customer service. I've tried a lot of Chinese restaurants really impressed with their consistency

Very timely delivery, good food. Lots of condiments. Delivery is never late and in fact is sometimes early.

Fortune Express is one of two Chinese restaurants we use for delivery of good food. I don't know what has happened, but we ordered delivery last night. Normally, delivery is fast (and free), the food is hot and tasty, and portions were large enough that we normally had enough for leftovers the next day. It's normally in plastic containers with lids that are either recyclable or reusable. Last night, the delivery was fast and the food was hot - but the food was in STYROFOAM, which is not eco-friendly at all, the portions were half the amount, and it just wasn't as tasty as it is normally. The crab Rangoon was chewy and had very little "stuff" inside with not a hint of crab, my NO SPICY was spicy, and it just wasn't right. Not sure we will be back. Maybe an off night? Hoping so ... read more

I started ordering Chinese food from here because i moved in the area recently. I ordered my usual chicken fried rice and egg rolls. I personally believe they have some of the best fried rice i have ever tasted... in my life. i'm hungry just thinking about it. They are very inexpensive, friendly, and fairly quick deliveries. An added bonus is their online ordering! (if you pay with a card they will call you to ask for your information--- if that's the case just call them to order) read more

I order from Fortune Express every time I am in town! The food is GREAT and the prices very fair!

I visited Fortune Express for the first time this past Saturday evening at the suggestion of my sister for a good place in the neighborhood. Wong's Inn in Maplewood is my usual place, but I was looking for something closer to home. I ordered sweet & sour chicken, pork fried rice and crab rangoon - looking forward to trying a new place. The sweet & sour chicken was the worst - there were actual PICKLES in it! And what's worse was the gelatinous sweet & sour sauce that didn't taste too bad, just lacked flavor, but was such a goopy consistency that it grossed me out. The fried rice had some flavor to it but was so greasy I couldn't eat much of it at all. The crab rangoon didn't have much filling in them, nor did the filling have much flavor. These weren't cooked long enough - they were chewy and too greasy, as well. I was looking forward to leftovers but ended up throwing the majority of it all in the garbage. After speaking with others, I've heard this place is hit-or-miss. Next time I'll try somewhere else. I will say the employees were friendly. read more

1st time ordering. Egg drop soup and veggie chicken was pretty good. Came hot about a half hour or so after ordering. The metal handle holding the box was broken when it arrived though and part of my food spilled into the paper bag it was wrapped in. My fortune cookie had no fortune. read more

This place is pretty close to my house so I thought we would give it a try. The prices seemed pretty low so I was a little worried about the quality. We order egg rolls, duck noodles, curry chicken, and Kung pao beef. We ordered half portion of the noodles and full portion of the entrees. All of this came out to 24$! I couldn't believe it! The egg rolls were large and very tasty! They didn't include any dipping sauce in our takeout order so if you want some remember to ask. The duck noodles were good the duck has a lot of bones in it- but still it was tasty. Not sure if I would get that again though. The entrees were huge and had good flavor. I asked for it to be more spicy and didn't notice much extra spice at all, not a big deal though. Like most Chinese takeout it is mostly veggies with very little meat but that's typical. The menu is very large and there are a couple unique options (crab fried rice?!?). While I wasn't blown away here I will Come back because of their proximity and the prices! read more

Great chinese food at a cheap price! We ordered using the online system which was really easy. The cashew chicken was delicious, all white meat chicken and lots of carrots, celery, water chestnuts, and cashews. The crab rangoon was awesome, not too sweet and really crispy. My husband had orange chicken which he said was great too. Huge portions as well. We will definitely be ordering again! read more

I called in a delivery order and the majority of the order fell out of the container and into the bag. Food was OK but the Crab Rangoon was stale. I may try them one more time but I hope it will be better. read more

We ordered food for delivery using this restaurants website. First they forgot the fried rice. Second when we called to tell them they began laughing and arguing we didn't order it. Not once did they ask if we wanted it until we said are you going to be sending someone with the rice and they said yes full price. When it came 45 mind later the rice did not have anything we asked in it like egg. This place is a joke and we're offensive with how they handle a complaint. This was the first and LAST time we will be ordering from the fortune express! read more

Ordered hot braised chicken with fried rice, crab ragoon and hot and sour soup. Hot and sour soup smelled horrible and spoiled, couldn't get it pass the nose. The hot braised chicken had too much breading and taste like frozen dinner. The crab ragoon was hard and didn't taste good at all. The fried rice was good. read more

I keep trying to like this place but the food is really not so good. You can order online and they deliver which are both positives. But the potstickers are always frozen and warmed and taste like they were in the microwave too long. Same for the egg rolls- not fresh. The food is mediocre - not great but not too bad. Just my two cents. I've had much better but the service is always quick and the online ordering is convenient. read more

Ordered the Szechuan Spicy Chicken House Special for delivery the other day and was not impressed. Didn't seem very fresh and was very under seasoned.
