Cute atmosphere with a farm-like feel on Orange's small Main Street. Delicious freshly made cocktails! Had the jalapeño infused marg + the mule. Def likes the marg more. We started with the lemon ricotta/brown butter gnocchi. Magical! Could've been a meal in and of itself. Very rich, generous portion. For our entree, we shared the pecan crusted mahi with mashed potatoes and southern green beans--it was delish! And the hot honey chicken...chicken was overly fried and a bit dry to our disappointment. For dessert, we had the milk pie. It could've been more moist (and man I hate that word but typing it is better than saying it), but was an interesting dessert. My friend and I really enjoyed our dinner at Forked on Main. I ordered the berry mojito, which was delightful. My friend's jalapeño margarita was excellent too. Our favorite menu item was the lemon ricotta gnocchi. It was a shared appetizer, but I wish it was my entree. So good! I ordered the hot honey fried chicken. It was good, but a little dry. For dessert, we had a delicious milk pie. One note: There are only a few restaurants in the tiny town of Orange. It's really unfortunate the town levies a 8 PERCENT meal tax! This is the second time that I ate at Forked on Main and both times have been a disappointment. The pasta was drenched with Olive Oil and the bowl had about 5 tablespoons at the bottom. In addition, the pizza had an unusual type of cheese on it that tasted like fake cheese. The crust was good. But there is no pepperoni option for the pizza on the menu and bacon is the only meat you can request as a topping. The salad wedge was good. We arrived without reservation as we were driving through unexpectedly - the friendly owner found us a table in the bar. We order some bread and the yummy charcuterie board to share, and then a mix of entrees and the soup of the day. The bread and board arrived quickly, but we waited 50 minutes for our entrees with no updates/status. We had to flag down people to get our drinks refilled, and our appetizer plates remained on the table the entire meal/never cleared. When the entrees finally arrived, they were only lukewarm - not clear if the kitchen or service was the cause. The risotto and the Bolognese tasted ok, although the soup of the day was not good (Poblano pepper soup, tasted like metal). We tried to flag down a server to get the situation addressed, but no luck getting anyone's attention. Finally, 15-20 minutes later, our server appeared and asked how the meal was, and when we reported that the dishes were cold/problematic, he asked if I wanted to speak with the manager - I said I wanted to flag the problem to him for his attention. Tried this restaurant after loving The Inn at Willow Grove and needing new fine dinning experiences in my area but it was just fair and not as good as The Inn at Willow Grove. My wife and I had lunch there today 8/28/18. It was very good and just as the Yelp reviews indicated. The bread, served before lunch was outstanding and freshly made. Service was on the spot, we were not rushed, others having lunch seemed very pleased with their choices. I had a crab bisque soup, and what they called, Mason Dixie Egg Rolls, they were excellent, with a very good mustard/ cream dipping sauce. May wife had a croq monseur, a ham sandwich with a cheese dipping sauce with spinach. We were very pleased and would recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to the city of Orange in Va. We loved this place before it closed for Covid and were excited that they had reopened. Tonight's experience was meh. The shrimp and grits advertised on their Instagram page at 4:30pm was not on the menu when we went at 6:00pm. My husband ordered the pork chop and it was delicious. I ordered the flounder oreganato which was served with spinach and both were dry and lukewarm. May have been sitting waiting on the pork chop? But my expectation is that each entree would be served hot. The seating is problematic (for me). The tables for two are so close together that conversation is awkward. For our pre-wedding dinner, just the two of us happened upon Forked on Main, as we were from out of town, staying at a local B&B. Every part of our meal was fantastic. The pre-appetizer bread was homemade and definitely worth your while. I then had gnocchi for an appetizer, and it was beyond delicious and probably my favorite part of the meal. For the main course, I had a Margherita pizza, which was also delicious. For dessert, we had beignets and coffee. My wife also said her meal was delicious. Everything was tasty and fresh, starting with the homemade rolls, salad lightly dressed with pepper jelly and balsamic and the twist was vadallia onion straws. I had the 5 Hwy drink which consisted of basil and jalapeño with vodka. It was yummy! This was our 3rd try to find a restaurant in Orange today. The first one never had anyone appear for anyone to be greeted, seated, or take an order. We left that place. The second one said they were open and an hour and a half after opening hours....doors were still locked. So terribly odd and not representing that adorable town too well. We saw Forked on Main and as soon as we walked in, were greeted by a delightful hostess. She seated us immediately. Our waitress took our drink orders and was super friendly. We ordered their calamari for an appetizer that is so flavorful--not too heavily breaded and the accompanying sauce had a little kick to it. I had the cheeseburger and my husband had the caprice chicken. The food is fresh and prepared on point. The fries were crispy and not dull or overdone. Our waitress continued to consistently check in on us. We look forward to going again for dinner. Forked on Main knows how to represent small business owners and clearly demonstrates how they respect and appreciate patrons such as myself and the others dining with us today. read more

What a nice find! Orange County is a rare gem and well worth exploring. This restaurant is appealing from an aesthetic perspective, is well staffed and the food is downright tasty. The house greens salad and Salmon were pronounced as excellent by my dining partner. My Indian Polenta appetizer was original, unique, flavorful and delicious. My Tofu main course, while a bit over sauced, was a wonderful surprise. Deserts were delicious and the coffee was strong. Then I found out it's owned by the same folks who run the Inn at Willow Grove and things started making sense. Many furnishings clearly come from their store Objets just up the street. But everything Willow Grove does is done well. These folks just get it. Just the right touch with everything and Forked is no exception. Wish the menu had more than one Veg option like a grilled veggie plate, but I left full and happy. Looking forward to a return visit. read more

So this restaurant is beautiful and the staff are on it.i had a special for the day which was called porcupine stew. The veggies were over cooked but since it's was stew I'm not sure that is a valid criticism. It had lots of flavor but just didn't wow me. The yeast bread was amazing and the gluten free corn bread was good too. I would suggest that the corn bread be cut just before serving since it was dry around the edges from sitting out. The wine selection was nice. I personally like more overseas selections and less domestic, but that is purely personal. Overall this is a really nice little restaurant and I would recommend it to others. read more

As much as I wish I could recommend this place, I would guess they are only still open because there aren't too many options in that area. We were a party of 8 there for the Montpelier Hunt Races. Our reservation was for 7:45pm but when we arrived we were informed that a table had been sitting there since 4pm and we could not be seated until they had asked them to move. We were told by the general manager to grab drinks from the bar however there wasn't a bartender so we could not order. One of our party went and found someone to order shots but we were told they don't serve shots. Finally we were seated well after our reservation time. After we were seated and finally a drink order had been taken it took quite a while until we finally got drinks. Meanwhile next to us a table of probably ten was so loud we could hardly have any conversation. We suffered through our meal with poor service i.e. no water refills, cold food, not asking about drinks or wine, and finally just bringing the check without ever asking about dessert. This whole time the next table is just completely ruining the meal with being so loud from clearly a lot to drink and nothing was being said. The general manager later confirmed that the loud table were the owners and their friends of the restaurant. Instead of trying to rectify the evening she was more full of lame excuses and did not offer to comp anything for the disaster of the evening. I will say the next day one of the owners did apologize for how rude they were but again it seemed to be about excuses then trying to rectify the situation. We don't plan to ever go back to this restaurant again. I think I would sooner eat fast food then to be faced with such entitled behavior. read more

This "foodie" couple enjoyed lunch here on a recent Saturday; the service was friendly and well paced; the room's decor was on the comfortable side of modern, and our dishes were amazing. The vegetable pasta dish (today's special) was superb with just the right about of sauce, fresh home-made tagliatelle, and perfectly seasoned. My shrimp & grits came with a unique twist because the shrimp were lightly fried and there was a type of corn dressing lightly spooned over top. This twist definitely livened up a classic favorite. We were too full for dessert but the sweets menu looked very creative and tempting. This bistro is owned by the same folks that own The Inn at Willow Grove, and their touches are evident throughout "Forked." Bottom Line: Great eatery, and we will definitely dine here again. Its reputation preceded it: we have heard many good things about it from other locals who frequent it on a regular basis. The new owners clearly spent a significant amount of money to completely redo the old Sparks restaurant site: bar/lounge on left and dining room on the right. The decor/color palette is thoughtful, and very comfortable. Our server, Ash, was very friendly, and attentive without being obtrusive. She even threw in some extra (delicious) dinner rolls with our leftovers, and they were packaged (for those who care) in sturdy, reusable, recycled cardboard containers. The crab bisque was delicious, and we like the portion options of sip, cup, or bowl. The flavor of the TNT shrimp was more nuanced than what you get at say, Bonefish Grill, and the pineapple salsa balanced well with the mild heat of the shrimp. Our host, who was also tending bar on the other side of the establishment, recommended the Silver Peak cab sav from the lower tier of the wine list to go with our two meat entrees. It held up well, and the markup from retail was appropriate. The grilled filet au poivre was huge, tender, and cooked perfectly at medium rare. The pepper sauce was excellent, and the potatoes au gratin were tasty, but perhaps a little overdone. The creamed spinach was delicious, and not too wilted, as is sometimes the case. The filet could easily feed two people and we will split it the next time we order it. Concerning the braised short ribs: The meat was extremely tender, but the creamy polenta was the star of the dish. The dessert menu looked wonderful, but we were just too full to partake. The food was phenomenal no doubt. Super beautiful food and establishment. I loved the aesthetic and the taste. Unfortunately, they only seemed to have one woman working the whole restaurant (about 15 tables). She was obviously stressed/overwhelmed and her service was obviously not up to par with the price they were asking for the food. For me and my mom to have lunch took over an hour and a half. Disappointed. Dined here a few Friday nights ago, was between ordering 2 of the mixed drinks on the menu, waitress highly recommended one, so I went with it. As soon as it hit the table I took a sip and I didn't like it at all, thought it was possibly made wrong - she asked how I liked it and I asked could I send it back for a glass of wine instead, and said said she needed to check. Then she came back and said she was told "as it something hits the table, it's on the bill". As someone who dines out pretty frequently, whenever I try a drink I've always been told if you don't like it we'll swap it out (though I've not once asked to swap it!, until now, figuring they would do what most of the service industry does). Ok, the facility is pleasant and our waitress was really very pleasant also. Everything else was not so great. The place has certain pretenses. We were two and had a reservation and showed up right on time. Before being seated, or really being told anything else, the person at the reception desk told us that we had to leave within an hour an a half. I said I'd rather sit at the bar then. She said there probably isn't a problem. I had a chopped salad. The lettuce was brown. I had pasta with shrimp; the pasta was inedible. I had a beignet and it was raw inside. The potato was more like potato chips, far too crispy for poutine, and the roasted chicken was sparse. The flavor was okay, but there's an egg on top which I asked for over hard, and it was delivered still runny. Went here the other week on a Saturday night to sit in the bar. The bar was busy but we managed a great table by the window. This place has great drinks and food! Something for everyone!
