I would NEVER recommend this business to anyone. My 91 year old visually impaired aunt showed me her new glasses from For Eyes in Lutherville/Timonium. Because of her visual impairment, she was unaware that they had sold her a pair of novelty children's MINECRAFT glasses. She has a limited income and paid out of pocket for her glasses. I am sure that when she walked out of the store with her new glasses the employees all had a good laugh at her expense. An email to For Eyes went unanswered. I can only assume that this company approves of it's employees mistreating the elderly and disabled. read more

I had an exam with dr Hartz- one of the most despicable doctors i've met: he didn't listen to my concerns at all, wouldn't even let me finish them. He was talking over me, and just saying he knows better because he is a doctor, without even listening what exactly is a problem. Extremely rude person. Absolutely do NOT recommend! This 5 star review is for Rich, an amazing employee at for eyes who is the nicest man and is so good at his job. On the other hand the optometrist here is an angry and grumpy man who makes his problems the patients problems and could use a little work on his attitude towards patients! Great experience getting an updated fitting for contact lenses. I had read some negative reviews here before my appointment, and while I understand the basis for those negative reactions, in my view the basis doesn't support posting a negative review. Here's the straight dope: Dr. Harz is a straight-shooter. That's it. He is also an excellent optometrist. If you want an excellent, thorough eye exam done by a meticulous, experienced, well-trained optometrist, you found the place. If you want small-talk, compliments, and superficial conversation and you don't adapt well to communicating with someone who has a unique style, give it a try because worst case, you'll get an excellent eye exam. Relax and don't take anything personally. It's just the normal stuff of life. Make the appointment. read more

I have actually been with for eyes for better than 15 years however I've always got my eyes examined there as well my personal frames prescriptioned However, I recently went there to take my rayban wayfarer frames to them to put my prescription in and I wad told that they couldn't put my prescription in them because they was the meta AI and even though I always sign the waiver not holding them responsible for them they still couldn't do it but I can send them back to Rayban and purchase them from them because they sell them also and then they can put my prescription in them which made no sense to me at all being as though he said rayban and for eyes was owned by they same parent company... so I took it a step further and called for eyes customer service and explained to them what the gentleman told and they said that wasn't true that they could put my prescription in the the Rayban Meta..Armed with this new information I called back the next morning and talked with the assistant manager and she was already familiar with the issue and told me that he was right even though I was signing the waiver freeing them of any liability..she said wouldn't you want to be compensated if something happened to the frame and I said no I do this with y'all all the time and signed the waiver...she says because they have the electronic parts in they can't do it...I said y'all not even touching the electronic parts all y'all handling is the lenses and she said that they still can't do it..but they can do it if I purchased them from them...so I said i just talked to customer service and explained it to them and they told me that y'all can do it and she had the audacity to tell me that they just customer service and they don't know what they talking about...how in the world customer service for your stores don't know what they talking about when they represent the entire chain of for eyes..So I said to her ok I know what to do from here thank you...I will never go there for my optical needs again including I exam...I have never been met with so much bull in all my life especially after over fifteen years of service with them...what really tops it is when they told me if I purchase it from them they could do it...I ended up going to Walmart optical and they handed it and didn't have sign a waiver and charged me 10 dollars because I had my own frame already and plus to top it off they sold the same Rayban wayfarer Meta frames and didn't meet me with none if that bull for eyes told me and I got my frames back in less than a week...they are my new optical store from here on out with all my optical needs .... read more

I have never written a negative review before but I felt compelled to after the experience I just had. I have been seeing dr. Hartz for over 10 years and cannot believe the disrespect he treated me with today. I arrived for my annual eye exam today and was immediately greeted by an angry staff. I was informed that I was not due for an annual for another 2 weeks (no problem, thank you for looking that up and informing me so I wouldn't get an eye exam that wasn't going to be covered by my insurance). The upsetting part was I was then told in a very aggressive way that I had now wasted an hour of his time which was a "really big problem". As someone who works in the healthcare field, I could not believe how aggressively and disrespectfully I was being spoken too. I feel incredibly upset to have had this experience and am disappointed that moving forward I will have to find a different doctor to work with. read more

My wife received an eye exam there last week. The optometrist was rude and completely out of line with belittling comments and an unprofessional harsh attitude towards a senior citizen. I have never written a review on anyone of any profession but feel compelled to publicly document such outrageous behavior by a supposed healthcare professional. I had a very pleasant experience at For Eyes in Timonium. Dr. Hartz was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I explained to him that I was new to wearing glasses and was unsure of how to discern which option was more clear when faced with choices that were close in clarity. He was very patient and allowed me to take my time as he guided me through the process. Before scheduling, I read some unfavorable reviews of people who may not have had the best experience, but decided to go anyway. I'm glad I did and I caution people to draw unfounded conclusions about the character of others without proof. I had a great experience and even afterward I had an insurance issue and Dr. Hartz handled it promptly. I would recommend anyone to go to this location. Thank You Dr. Hartz!!! normally I would rate this 5 stars, Dr. Hartz is an excellent optometrist, especially fitting contacts. I had trial contacts ordered on 4/13/23 and today is 5/30/23 and I still don't have them. evidently there is a company policy to not ship an order if an item is on back order. so if 6 things were ordered but one is on back order they hold everything up until that item is available. never had a company do this. they would deliver what was available and send the back order later. I will have to rethink returning. read more

See my previous 2-star review... now this. So these frames which are a For Eyes in-house style are now 1 year and 1 month old. A leg fell off yesterday; looks like a solder joint failed. I took them in for repair. The receptionist said, "Did you purchase a warranty?" I said, "No.... I don't recall being offered one. You won't repair your own house-brand frames when they fail in a year????" "No. You can take them to this place in Laurel, MD" Unbelievable. I and my SO and her sister and her brother and his wife who are all previous clients will never go there again. You should have your surly optometrist check your myopic vision, For Eyes. I received two cards in the mail saying it was time for an eye exam. When I got to the store the receptionist said my insurance would not cover my exam because I had seen the doctor in January of this year. Why would For Eyes say it's time for an exam and why would I go back after this blunder! read more

I have gave this place my business for more than 10 years and this is how you treat me. I would not recommend Foureyes Optical due to the piss poor attitude I received today from the receptionist. Upon arrival to the store after I took off from work today I was received by the receptionist with "didn't you get the voicemail we left you, your appointment was cancelled". If I would have gotten a voicemail I would not be standing before you lady. After checking my phone I kindly looked at her and explained that I never received a message and left out knowing I will never return. I work less than 10 minutes away from For Eyes, so when I was having issues with my contacts and needed an emergency appointment, I contacted For Eyes and was able to be seen right away during my lunch time. As I was getting out of the car to go to my appointment the phone rang but I did not recognize the number so I ignored it. When I arrived at the front desk Dr. Hartz asked if I was there for an appointment and I responded yes I was. He asked why I didn't answer his call, and I mentioned I didn't know the number. He then asked for my insurance information and tried to search the database for my records. He seemed very upset and I was not sure if it was me or what. We continued on going back and forth until I finally asked him....did he have a problem with me, I was prepared to walk out. He mentioned the gentleman who took my appointment should have asked for all of the information so he would have cut down the time I was there at the store. He explained his frustration was not with me but with the service I received from the staff. After hearing this I let my guard down and we had the best time, we talked about his son, my childhood, he even joked and called me Kevin Hart. Most importantly he corrected a vision issue I was having with reading while wearing contacts. In this national climate we immediately assume things.....if we would just take time to really talk to people and communicate versus jumping to conclusions, I am sure we would get along much better. I saw the review calling Dr. Hartz racist, in my experience, he wasn't racist at all. I can't be sure, but I assume the person posted had the same preconceived notions I had but rather than asking for clarity they let their assumptions run wild. Although there are evil racist people out there....I believe for the most part people are good. I KNOW Dr. Hartz is! Great service and competency. I needed a pair of glasses quickly and they did it. I have a progressive prescription and also needed very lightweight frames. The glasses came in even more quickly than Ken promised and he called right away for me to come in. He adjusted them to my wonky ear perfectly and I wore them home. It amazed me that he got it right the first time because I've had problems with other optical places (much more expensive) that couldn't seem to get it right. Kudos to Ken! read more

Racism in 2016: Our first, and only, visit to here was marred by an incredibly racist interaction with Dr. Hartz, I took my hard-of-hearing mother to get an eye exam-- I have never had a problem before with other physicians being with her, but as soon as I started speaking Mandarin since she needs some phrases translated, Dr. Hartz rolled his eyes at the sound of another language. He continued to mention the language barrier, which had NOTHING to do with her struggle to hear-- he lost his cool and got flustered. complained to me, and was incredibly rude overall. using roundabout racist terms like referring to her "historical past" and "language difficulties" that made prescribing her difficult. Walked out of an appointment I'd scheduled today. His technician, Angela was the reason. Rolling her eyes up in her head and just very curt. I'd planned on an eye exam and getting glasses and contacts. I had the nerve to ask for the HIPAA form they had me sign for saying it had been offered to me--it hadn't. I also had the audacity to ask why she wanted my driver's license--she just needed my address--well, then tell me that--I don't give my driver's license number out and wanted to make sure that was not going in the database. My identity, my privacy. I called my insurance carrier and told them to make sure they didn't pay if the company tried to bill them. For Eyes in Timonium is fantastic!! The entire staff is very nice. I worked with the manager, Peggy. She was extremely helpful in making sure I got a frame that not only looked nice, but fit well. So I go into For Eyes and the sales clerk (Manager? Owner?) asked if he could help. I told him that I was looking for frames for a new pair of glasses and that, since I have a small, narrow face, I should probably look at the children's frames and he showed me where they could be found. After spending a few minutes looking/trying on frames from that section, I turned around and found two display racks of sale frames; most appeared to be of children's size and most had a sticker on the lens giving a price of $29. After spending at least 10 minutes looking/trying on frames, I found a pair I liked (with a sticker on the lens marked $29) and asked him the cost including single vision lenses. "Oh, I can't sell those to you at the sales price; they're for Kids." Really. You were willing to sell me the regularly priced kids' frames, but not these? So a parent can purchase these for a (real or imaginary) kid, but not for themselves? Really. Is the child expected to bring in his/her piggy bank and count out the $29? Consider yourself forewarned. read more
