If you go to this For Eyes location beware of the "exam upgrade" that no one tells you about until it time to pay your bill - and it's more than double then what you paid at another For Eyes location. I decided to go to this location because it was closer to my house. I was going to the Naperville location prior, Oswego apparently thought I needed a "special" contact fitting exam. A few thoughts about their decision to "upgrade" me without my KNOWLEDGE or CONSENT. 1. This special exam is supposed to be a contact lens fitting. I've been getting my exams and contacts from For Eyes for 3 years! I choose the exact same contacts as years prior! 2. The special exam was the EXACT same exam as I had at their Naperville location... only A LOT MORE money insurance wouldn't pay! 3. Naperville cost was $14. Oswego price was a whopping $60.00 out of pocket FOR THE SAME EXAM!! Read some of the other reviews on here about this place and their "special eye exam", it wasn't just me that got ripped off, seems they have a habit on doing this. I purchased a pair of eyeglasses from this For Eyes location. After I was fitted and got home, I noticed the arm had a crack in it. I came back the next day and worked with a pleasant employee named Jeannie (sp?). She could not get me the exact frame I had first selected but worked with me to get a very similar model. This model was a higher quality brand (Ray Ban) and more expensive. She was adamant that For Eyes would cover the increased cost and wanted to ensure I was pleased with my glasses. While I was disappointed the initial glasses came to me broken, I was very happy with the customer service and how Jeannie went the extra mile to ensure I was satisfied. I don't measure a company based on an unfortunate incident or accident; rather, it's how they respond to those instances. Jeannie really rose to the occasion and provided superior customer service. I will be back for my next pair, and I encourage you to try this location as well. read more

I'm so mixed about our experiences at this location! Hubby has purchased 4 pairs of glasses from work safety glasses, to sunglasses and two pairs of day to day glasses. Most recently, we walked in during Covid and while standing at the main desk, the employee said "something" to us as we walked in. As we approached her and could finally hear her more clearly, she mumbled, "or don't". I realized that she had told us that we should sanitize our hands upon entry, but we were so far away that we couldn't hear her clearly. TOTALLY unprofessional! Of course, this was the person that was our rep for purchasing glasses. Fast forward when the glasses were delivered, and she completely misread the prescription and totally screwed up the order, resulting in the glasses needing to be redone. Also, when the redone glasses were delivered, the person that called to let us know that the order was in, was a complete, condescending jerk in the message. Previously, the transitions feature has left off due to employee error, once again resulting in the glasses needing to be redone. Bought two pair glasses October 2019 from For Eyes on Douglas Road. One has literally fallen apart despite no abuse in basically less than a year and a half. I called to try to get a new pair based on the same prescription which my eye doctor told me in May didn't need to change so he didn't do a complete workup. Now I'm told I have to have a recent prescription due to state law. I guess our legislators are trying to protect people on a limited budget from economizing. When arguing with the For Eyes rep over the phone, I'm told "Glasses are meant to last a year." That's a direct quote. Planned obsolescence supported by our state legislators. An eye exam and glasses aren't cheap. Meanwhile, I'm wandering around with a pair that barely holds together. read more

This review is for the Optometry part of the business. We had no interaction with the For Eyes staff other then a pleasant greeting. My wife and I went in today for eye exams. My wife went first then had to head back to work. I let them know I would be paying for both exams after mine which they said was no problem. After my exam I went to the front to pay and was told the total was $100! I have only ever paid $15 per exam the entire time I have had my eye insurance. Turns out mine was $15 but my wife's fee was $85! During my wife's exam the doctor spoke with her about contacts and had given her a sample pair and solution. At no point did the doctor tell her that process would be an additional fee let alone $70. I am a reasonably informed consumer with no dilutions about getting something for nothing. I assumed that there would be a charge for the sample pair. My biggest issue is that she nor I were told it would be a $70 "custom contact fitting" charge. I called to discuss this later in the day with them. I did get an apology for the confusion but was also told "that's usually how it is, we charge for the additional exam". I said thank you and was done with the call as yelling at the representative would accomplish nothing. The funny part is all the paperwork they have you fill out before your exam which lists out a bunch of extra fees for other services but there is no mention of contact fittings. I highly recommended asking about each and every thing they are going to do for you during an exam as it may end up costing you over 4 times the amount it should be. read more

I am writing this with the goal of providing a strong warning to other local consumers. Folks have a lot of choices in the far western suburbs when it comes to purchasing eyeglasses. I have been getting glasses at For Eyes for 30+ years, starting at the Lincoln Park store in Chicago in the 1970s. And I've bought glasses at the location on Route 59 as well. I've always been mildly satisfied with For Eyes. Nothing special or spectacular, but their limited choices and low prices were generally adequate. This Oswego location: absolutely the pits. Worst experience I've ever had at any For Eyes store and I'm giving up on the chain entirely. Lenscrafters or other opticians for me, from now on. I was in on June 22 to get an eye exam and to order two new pair of glasses. I chose a clear transition lens for one pair and sunglasses for the other. The daily-wear transition lens glasses fell entirely apart on the 4th day. I picked them up Tuesday, July 3rd, noticed the left temple stem was loose on Friday, and made plans to take them in for repairs. But by Saturday morning, in addition to the left temple being loose, the right lens had fallen completely out. When I was looking for sunglasses on June 22, the salesperson girl strongly encouraged me to get larger lenses since I golf and since we were bound for vacations at the Jersey Shore and in Bermuda. "It will protect your eyes on the side" said she. What she never mentioned until I picked the glasses up was that with wider (and thus thicker) glasses, I'd NEVER EVER be able to close them. Good luck traveling with glasses that will never, ever close all the way. I took the glasses back today (July 7) to try to get a refund. Alas, nobody working today is "authorized" to grant refunds. "Come back Monday" said they. When I explained that I will be in NY next week, the Jersey Shore the following week, Bermuda the week after that, and then in NY again for a week, well, I guess I should just bring the glasses back in August sometime and try for a refund then? Folks: take my advice. If you must go to For Eyes, go to the location on Route 59. But really, I'd strongly encourage folks to use other opticians. You might pay more, but your satisfaction level will certainly be much higher than this For Eyes. I've already ordered new glasses from Lenscrafters in hte Fox Valley Mall. I went in to the For Eyes location in Oswego because of the convenient location and insurance suggestion. I was in and out within an hour (including eye exam). Pete was very helpful in choosing the right frame for my face. He didn't pressure me into buying all the "extras". The prices are right for basic frames and the discounts with insurance were better than I remember at other businesses in the area. I would go back to For Eyes. I went in for a vision exam and the Dr. was nice. I ordered glasses and contacts. Glasses are fine, however the trial pair of contacts were not very comfortable. So, I called and they said that they can set up a date so I can try another pair. Well, when I set up the appointment they called me back to inform me that I will be charged for another office visit to try another trial pair because it was longer than 60 days. THEY NEVER STATED I HAD TO MAKE THE APPOINTMENT WITHIN 60 DAYS! I have a one year old child, so getting to appointments for myself is not always the priority. I asked if they could wave their fee and I was given the typical BS line of "I just work here" and that I would have to pay for another visit. Hmm...I already paid for the first visit and they didn't fit me with comfortable contacts. Shouldn't it be good business practice to make the customer happy? Otherwise customers tend to find other businesses that will. What a money making scam they have going on. Needless to say, I will be finding another eye doctor. read more

An updated review. I picked up my glasses tonight--they were ready sooner than expected--and the service was great again. Danny was super helpful, even though it was near to closing time. At his suggestion, I ordered a pair of Rx sunglasses. (This was not a hard sell, he mentioned it last time I was in, and after thinking it over, I decided it was prudent.) I like the small feel of this store. The people working there now seem to get along well. They are professional and helpful. The above was from two weeks ago. (July) I have been in twice to have my sunglasses adjusted, and AGAIN received personalized service, first from Danny and then today from the store manager, Theresa. The first time I went to For Eyes I had to have my glasses remade due to the fact that they cut the bifocal too low. The staff member blamed my eye doctor's prescription and told me to go back to her. My eye Dr informed me that i was having problems because of how the glasses were made. The glasses were remade and the prescription was correct. The second time I went to Four Eyes I needed a rush pair of glasses. They "Super Rushed" the glasses. I am still waiting. They said I will get them at the 9 day mark. Super Rush? I will not order glasses here again. read more

Anything not right gets corrected and everyone there is very kind and helpful. Thought not 100% correct the first time, they go out of their way to make it right! This Oswego location has all new people working here including the doctor. I'd been going her for 12 years but this will be my last time. First I'm told that the previous doctor took all his patient records with him but they "think" my information is also in the computer. Then I'm told they have a brand new computer system. I tell them I'm there for my annual exam for contacts. They do not ask me what type. I assume that this info is in their computer. We get 3/4 of the way through the exam before the doctor asks me if I've been wearing "monovision" which I assumed she knew and it turns out that's not the type of exam she's done up to that point. She finishes exam and gives me a pair of trial contacts to wear until mine come in. I wear them for a week and go pick up my new ones. Lucky for me that I had saved the boxes from my old contacts because I notice right away that the new ones are a bid difference in strength and she had said she was only "tweaking" them. Turns out that I've been wearing the wrong prescription for a week And they gave me a years worth of the wrong prescription and then tell me that I'm the first patient that they've used the new testing equipment on and that NONE of my old information was in the computer. I do not have any confidence in this doctor to allow her to do a new exam and I tell them I want a complete refund for exam and contacts. I'm told I'll have to talk it over with corporate for a refund on the exam because they performed a service but they'll refund the money for the contacts. This is so unacceptable on so many levels that I'm speechless and as a senior citizen I will definitely be taking this up with their corporate office! My advice is to stay away from here for your own good. read more

high pressure sales people, very annoying. if you just want 2 pairs of glasses for $99 as they advertise, they will pressure you to get $200 in upgrades. they recommended a new brand of contact lens for me at $40 a box. after 2 weeks i didn't find them comfortable and called to ask if i could return my 1 unopened box or exchange for my regular brand (which cost $15 at 1800contacts) they told me i could only exchange them for 1 box which they charge $22 for but i could not get a refund on the difference in price and i could not get 2 boxes and pay the difference either. i will not be back. read more

If they had negative stars then I could accurately rate this place. The staff is nice enough but their lab is atrocious. I brought in a pair of Oakley sunglasses to have prescription lenses put in. The shape of the lenses was way off the original oakley lenses and they basically just bent the the frames around these mishapen lenses. I tried putting the original lenses back in but the frames are essentially ruined now. I also bought a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses at their store and asked for prescrition lenses in these as well again the shape of the lens was not the same shape as the original. In both cases we pulled the prescription lenses out and compared them to the original and they were distinctly a different shape. I did let them send a pair back and have their lab try again and I paid extra for Poly-Carb so the lens would be thinner but still a huge miss. I asked for a refund on both and am now without my beloved Oakley frames. A huge NO from me. read more

The online scheduling doesn't work(they won't call you back), they misrepresent their available hours on their website(they are not open on Sundays and the hours are wrong), their reception is either unfriendly or makes mistakes that will cost you the time of both the phone calls and the time spent attending an appointment that was never rescheduled. When they never responded to my online request I called and was hung up on, called back and was placed on hold for 14 minutes, called back again and the receptionist acted annoyed at my interruption. Never got a reason for why I wasn't contacted from my online request the week prior. I finally got an appointment but needed to reschedule and was assured of my new appointment time. When I got there, they had never rescheduled me. After feeling fed up with my attempt just to be seen and since I never really felt all that confident in their services in the past, this was the final straw. Tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but will not give them any more chances. Many other options in the area. read more

Went to price and shop for glasses. Receptionist couldn't have been less interested. Enter salesperson. Annoying, fast talking and all around obnoxious. Practically insisted we get right "into the doc's chair" even though I said no twice. He did a halfhearted intro to the two "docs" who were less interested than the miserable receptionist. It seemed as if they were just told that all their dogs had just died. Just very unhappy people who appeared to want to be anywhere else than there. God bless the salesman for working with these women; at least he was trying. What an awful half hour. I stopped in to browse a couple months ago and I did not like the service I had gotten (very rude and acted like my business meant nothing). I did go back a few weeks ago (was expecting the same results) and was greeted by Samantha. I have to say, I was amazed this time! She answered all of my questions and helped me pick out the right frames, told me the differences between their frames and the lens and how much it would cost (which was a great deal)! She stayed with me the whole time and made me feel like I counted too. I didn't feel like "just another sale". We spoke about everyday things and had a nice conversation. I wanted to call their corporate office but I couldn't find the right information or who to get ahold of. So I wrote it on here. Worst place ever! I ordered a pair of Rx sunglasses and when I pick them up it had a gap between frame and the glass. They blamed the lab and said that it was the way the glass was cut. They agree to had them remade, however, two weeks later they gave me the. same pair of glasses with the same gap. The manager admitted that they never sent the glasses back to the lab. She apologized and compromised to get them done right. Three weeks later I called to check if the glasses were ready and I was told they were in but they have a gap (again). I realize they never sent the glasses to the lab. They offered me a discount of $50 if I take the glasses with the gap (which I paid over $200). Really?! Who would to wear a pair of sunglasses with a gap on them? Ridiculous! I'm hoping to get my money back and get my Rx glasses somewhere else. My husband felt terrible because he recommended this place. They lost our family of 4 business not only for not being able to make a pair of glasses right but also for being such a liers and making us waste our time. i had to write a review to avoid others a bad experience like ours. read more

After a few not so good experiences with ForEyes over the years, I decided to give them another chance during the summer. An associate, Samantha, helped my elderly father and I. I cannot explain how happy we both were when we departed the store. We swore this was our newfound hope within ForEyes. The services Samantha rendered were phenomenal! And for my father whom is 78 years young with dementia who can, at times, be unknowingly unpleasant to other people, and he was, was treated with the utmost respect and care. He complimented her, which for him these days, are fairly rare. So, it's really disheartening to learn she is no longer with ForEyes. In my opinion, she was a valuable asset to that company. As we have friends and family who also thought very highly of Samantha. We've since gone back and dealt with other associates and all I can say is that it is the same rude and flippant service we had prior. I, along with friends feel it's time to find another place, again! You see, it's not always about the (low) prices offered but, it is all about the associates who sell them.
