The barbecue was fantastic. My son had the brisket and it was moist and tangy. I tried the chargrilled chicken. It was moist with a hint of burnt charcoal-- delicious. We were in town for college visits and found this place on Yelp. Arguably one of the best burgers I've had in years!! The grilled onions on top just MADE the burger! It comes with their homemade chips which were delicious, but we also ordered a side of hand cut fries-also amazing!!!! I can't speak for their BBQ since my daughter and I both had the burgers, but truly delicious! And didn't break the bank, either--$7 and change for the burger, and huge side of fries was $4. Great food, great service, great prices! Will definitely be back when we bring my daughter to college in the fall! read more

OMG so good. The server was super friendly and very efficient. The food was all good but what was amazing were the Nachos made with their homemade chips, smoked pork, cheese and ranch sauce. They were loaded, every chip had pork and cheese and sauce and everything was gooey and bubbling when it came to the table. Husband and I both say they are the best nachos of any sort we have ever had. We are both big eaters and were stuffed sharing one order. All for $7. Stay away from the dry chicken breast on the sampler platter, that's my only negative. read more

Reasonably priced Bbq with smoker on display in front and they tout their own custom made smoker in back. The pulled pork and homemade chip are pretty darn good. But this place left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I ordered their brisket sandwich, which was either boiled, or more likely braised. Ok. When asked how everything was, I suggested they might tell people the brisket isn't smoked, like everything else. The response was to get a little huffy-- "we do say it's not smoked, right here"-- and points to another item on the menu which describes their brisket as "rubbed" with this and that. Really? Yum!!!! I was hoping for a little shack or old house converted to a bbq joint, but this is a modern eatery in a tiny strip mall. Location is very convenient but finding the right entrance to the parking lot is tricky when coming from the other direction. Service was quick and super friendly. Not a lot of space, maybe 10 tables, but it was busy as we went on Friday at dinner time (6 ish). Food was AMAZING! Kiddo got a pizza with smoked sausage, smoked ham, and pepperoni. Crust was thin and crispy - I thought he'd balk at this but he ate every bite. Husband got the burger topped with smoked sausage... (I think it was called the bayou burger?)... he loves smoked sausage and he was not disappointed. Served w side of Mac n cheese ("eh, it's ok") and homemade potato salad made with baby reds ("I really can't finish this but I have to!!") I got the nachos with pulled pork (listed on the appetizer menu). Portion was enormous and sooooo good! Nachos tend to be my go to as I have a gluten allergy and they're usually safe, so I've had a lot of nachos in my day. Seriously, these are in my top 3. Their homemade "chippers" are the base, pulled pork was perfect amount of smoky, topped with shredded cheddar and some kind of creamy cheese sauce that was OMG. I could've dipped chips in that cheese sauce and called it a day. So good! Kiddo got a chipwich ice cream sandwich for dessert, which he readily devoured! And thank goodness their sweet tea was real sweat tea - fresh brewed and plenty of sugar! Only improvement would be additional bathroom or sink and stall separate do you could wait in the room for the stall or at least wash hands if stall was taken... only single stall/room per gender. Son and husband had to wait quite a bit to get in to wash hands. This is really just feedback re: convenience and does not at all dissuade is from going back. YUM!! read more

I am a local of the area so I have eaten here many times. You all know how it is with local places. You get a few good meals then a bad one. Well let me tell you I have never gotten a bad meal at Foothill. I have just about covered the meats on the menu. I hate that it is for sale as this is easily one of the if not the best sit down restaurant in Lexington. read more

When we went we were told that no outside food is permitted, even for our toddler daughter. I clarified this policy by asking if they meant food from another restaurant or just food in general (like from a grocery store: cheese stick, crackers, etc). We were told no outside in general, period. So we left and spent our elsewhere. *sigh* read more

S u x pig was dry as the gobi. Brisket was sloppy and bland cron bread tasted like sour milk and as just awful 3 bbq sauces red sweet yellow/ grey sickly indiscriminate flavor and a red unknown flavor I can't discribe mopping floors while we were eating " I think this is a health code violation " sign on window says selling ASAP GOOD RIDDANCE. Don't waste your money here horrible after taste in mouth for hours. Whoever gave 4 and1/2 stare must have stood to close to the many cannons in town read more

This was terrible. I mean truly terrible. Worst Mac and cheese I've ever eaten, didn't have much and noodles horribly over cooked. Brisket was tough and way over cooked. Pulled pork Sandwhich had absolutely no flavor. Even the coke out of the machine was flat. Please keep driving. We stopped in because of the reviews at lunchtime. They had an open table but would not seat people who we're waiting in front of us because it was a six top. The three men worked for VDOT and only had a certain amount of time to eat lunch. The servers were less than understanding and they left. Our party of three was willing to sit at a two top which was a four top table next to a wall. Once again they said no we can't do that. Honestly I would not let the servers treat customers in this manner. They were just very short with us and that in no way is customer service. Maybe they should hire other people to interact with the public. I asked them to Bring an appetizer of corn bread which we willing to pay for and same server said no we can't do that, we have other orders for seated tables. Honestly, I would avoid this establishment unless they get a clue how to what customer service is about and learn how to interact with patrons. Note: the food is very good. read more

Loved it! We went in hungry and left busting at the seams. Between three of us, we attempted to share a basket of fries, a brisket and pork platter, a Bayou Boogie Burger, and a Pulled Pork Sandwich platter. Sides included delicious baked beans, cole slaw, corn bread and home cooked chips. Needless to say, the "to-go" box had a lot of "to-go" in it. Don't even think twice if you're driving down 81 looking for a place to eat and just read this review....especially if you're looking for BBQ! You can't beat the price and flavor! Meats were great. Pork, chicken and sausage were perfect. The brisket was a little weird; don't expect Texas style brisket. Sides were delicious. It's hard to find a good BBQ joint that serves up both quality meats and quality sides, and this place is that rare BBQ gem. Service was friendly though slow, so order an appetizer to get you through. We ordered two Joint Platters which came with portions of four meats plus three sides each. Been a while since we stopped in here, but my non Yelping significant other wanted me to review this....we loved it! She gives a 5 but I'm giving a 4...don't get me wrong, its a great stop. I loved the brisket and the I also loved the cornbread! Clean, and well kept, the kitchen staff were squared away as we got our meal promptly and piping hot and got the usual "3 minute" check back etc.. but the staff was not intrusive and a good time overall. I had the combo platter with chicken and brisket. The brisket was amazing and the chicken was pretty good. Make sure to put the sweet and spicy BBQ sauce on everything. Also had mashed potatoes and baked beans on the side, both excellent. Tried the pulled pork and it was a little dry, but nothing some sweet and spicy BBQ sauce couldn't fix. A very good amount of food for the price, would definitely come back if I was in the area again. read more

DELICIOUS! Found this place on yelp as we were traveling on 81. The food was delicious and the portions were large! We had chippers & dip as an appetizer, my son ordered the smokehouse chicken quesadilla from the appetizer menu as his meal, I had the cubano panini and my husband ordered the combo platter (pulled pork and brisket). We have 2 large takeout containers for lunch tomorrow. The quesadilla was stuffed with chicken. My little 5-yr old barely made a dent in it. My cubano had large chunks of meat and was served with chippers and two sides! (I asked for the 2 sides option thinking they would replace the chippers). We tried all 3 of their BBQ sauces and liked the sweet & spicy best, but they were all very good and had well-balanced flavor. We definitely plan to stop here on our next trip and will be planning ahead by having space in our cooler for leftovers! :) read more

I was really excited to see a bbq place in the area, they even had smokers outside which made it look like a *real* bbq joint. Huge disappointment, I got some kind of grey, pot boiled brisket with no color and huge chunks of un-rendered fat. No crust, no bark, no color, no smoking. No ribs either!? If you want real smoked bbq meat here your only choice is pork. Not everyone eats pork. Aside from the meat not being bbq, the service was poor. Two girls were rushing around trying to service the entire lunch crowd and even though I tipped them before getting my order, they gave the wrong sauce and sides. Such a let down, maybe the other meats are smoked or better but after pulling a fast one on me with the brisket it's unlikely I'll return. read more

Off-the-charts outstanding. You can't beat this place with a stick. I can't remember the last time I went to the same eatery on consecutive days, but I did just that w/Foothill Momma's. First I took my beloved spouse there; she loved it. . .despite the fact that she makes the best brisket on the planet (she didn't have brisket). Then, about an hour before its 8 p.m. closing time the next day, a colleague and I returned from a quick road trip to eastern Kentucky. He loves good BBQ, so I suggested we go to Foothill Momma's. He was all for it. Like my wfve and me, he is a 'foodie', but he loved it, too. The onion rings are fabulous - but be sure to get an extra dose of the remoulade sauce. Both my bride and I had the pulled pork sandwich the first time; I liked the Honey BBQ sauce, and my bride preferred the sweet-and-spicy version. She had a Devil's Backbone Vienna Lager beer from the local craft brewery, and raved about it; I had a lemonade about the size of a keg, and it was pitch-perfect. When my colleague and I went there last night, he had the BBQ chicken and couldn't stop talking about it. I had the brisket, which was really good. The mac-and-cheese was also first-rate, and the potato salad was top-flight. He had collards and greens, which I'd managed to avoid all my life (I can't stand turnips and greens), which my colleague insisted I try. I did, and darn, they were good!! Plus there was another keg of lemonade served in a single glass. :-) When we left, I said to the chef that I hoped the prices were high enough because I wanted to make sure this place stays in business. It's at a hard-to-see location, so if you're not looking for it, you'll drive right by it, which we have since it opened seven months ago. The chef assured me the menu prices were adequate. This place is probably not where you want to take your spouse/S.O. for a special occasion, but any other time, it should work just fine. The food is delicious, the prices are more than fair, and the service is prompt. Both Ashley and Elena (sp?) are conscientious and good servers, so, with the low prices, anyone can afford to be generous percentage-wise with the tip. We sure were. read more

We were driving back to Canada from Mountain Lake Lodge (the hotel in Dirty Dancing) Pembroke VA and I was looking for a BBQ joint when I came across this Gem. One of the best BBQ we have ever eaten at. We had the combo which did not disappoint. Stopped in on a recommendation from a friend. The wait staff was not very friendly. They seemed put-out to be working at all. The meat was good. They don't serve ribs. What BBQ place don't serve ribs? The collard greens were over spiced. However, the worst part was the in-your-face political propaganda that made up the decor. When I eat at an establishment, I like to enjoy my meal without the owner pushing his personal views. Lexington VA has many other great places to eat. This is a cute little place and our waitress was friendly. That's where the good news stops. I ordered the Pulled pork platter with mac and cheese. My husband ordered the Catfish platter with mac and cheese and coleslaw. Both platters also came with cornbread and honey butter. The pork was ok. I tried it with different sauces and settled on the sweet and spicy. The mac and cheese is NOT mac and cheese. It doesn't even pretend to be! It tastes, and looks like a pasta salad from a box! My husbands catfish was greasy and had zero flavor. We concluded that they took the fish, dipped it in egg then plain flour (no cornmeal!) once it came out of the fryer, it was not salted so it made it very oily. The coleslaw was ok. Onto the "cornbread"... well, southerners are particular about this. Some like a little sweetness and some don't. This "cornbread" was like a dense cake and was very cold. The honey butter is NOT made with butter. It's margarine. It is served in a plastic container and is super oily. In fact, we poured the oil off before attempting to try it. So sorry we even tried it! My advice, skip this and try JJ's Meat Shack instead. read more

Really good country cooking. The combo meal with 2 meats is big enough to split. The pork bbq had a good smoked flavor. The brisket was overcooked, as it seems to be anywhere outside of Texas, and tasted more like roast beef, but it was still good. The sides were excellent...get the collard greens and mac and cheese.
