They were fried hard--the right way--giving the outside a satisfying bite while the meat remained tender inside. Sweet, spicy, tangy, creamy and savory, it was a bold combination that somehow worked beautifully from every angle. The pulled-pork sandwich refused to be overshadowed. The pork was moist, tender, well-seasoned and piled ridiculously high on a soft bun. This was a serious portion of properly cooked pork--not a sandwich relying on sauce to carry it. Then came the collard greens, which unexpectedly became the star of the sides. I expected them to play backup, but they had enough presence to stand beside the barbecue. And today, I finally got to try it out for lunch, after making plans to be there at ten in the morning just as they were opening. I'm talking about the new Chicken Wings restaurant locally-owned and operated by Kevin Edwards, Wingstop. Located at the Southwest Plaza Shopping Center on Electric Road (next to Jersey Mike's), this casual counter-serve chain specializing in cooked-to-order wings (classic or boneless) with over 11 iconic flavors, as well as chicken tenders and chicken sandwiches, with sides of their hand-cut, seasoned fries, and other signature sides such as their Cajun Fried Corn and their Buffalo Ranch Fries. From the moment I entered the restaurant I felt the warm southern hospitality from the ladies behind the counter and also from the manager and assistant manager who welcomed me wholeheartedly, while I waited for my order to be freshly prepared. The place was clean and well lit with only around five small tables. Even though most of their orders were To-go, all of their tables seemed to also be always full. The backlit menus high above behind the counter were very well organized and easy to understand. I particularly liked their chart of sauces from Heat (Atomic) to no Heat (Hawaiian), illustrated with a colorful line from red, yellow, to green. I ordered their 5pc Crispy Tender Combo with their Hickory Smoked BBQ flavor sauce, a regular size side of their seasoned fries, and a regular 20oz beverage. Then after hearing of their Cajun Fried Corn, I had to try one also. As I watched into their open kitchen, I was very impressed with the teamwork and positive attitude from all their crew members. The manager did an excellent job keeping everything moving and bringing out the order bags to the Pick-Up counter. The assistant manager, a friendly and dynamic lady with a wonderful personality was also on top of things all the time. I filled my paper cup with ice and Coke from their softdrink machine and placed it at the table in the back to hold my place. They have an electric chart on the side wall of the ordering counter that keeps you informed of the status of your order. When my order was ready, the manager handed it to me in person inside a bag and I took it to my table. The Chicken Tenders were huge in size, with very tender and moist chicken and covered with the tasty Hickory Smoked BBQ sauce. The fries were just the right thickness, very well seasoned, and served hot, right out of the frier and bowl where they were seasoned. And the corn was amazing. Small pieces of corn on the cob full of flavor. Even the Iced Coke tasted wonderful on this hot and sunny day. In conclusion I highly recommend that you drive down here and make a stkp at this Chicken Wing new restaurant. I can assure you, after you try their food and experience their service, you'll be coming back for more.

And with that said, it is time to return the focus directly on this new Wingstop location. They opened on Monday, 05/18/2026, and have had lines out the door ever since. This is to be expected whenever a new place first opens in Roanoke, but I suspect the crowds will taper off to a normal flow of customers within a couple of weeks. As a tip during this grand opening time, if you are going for lunch, arrive around 11 AM, which is close to when they first open their doors, to avoid bigger crowds until the new hype dies off. My friend Dom and I did this, and our service ended up being fast and efficient. Even with a decent sized crowd during our early visit, the food came out lightning fast and fresh. The prices were reasonable too for the quality of food we received. I ordered a 6-piece boneless meal, which included perfectly cooked seasoned fries and a fountain drink. I had my wings tossed in their Atomic Sauce, which is their hottest flavor. If you do not like spice, then this sauce is not for you, but it is not nearly as hot as Buffalo Wild Wings' Blazin' Knockout Sauce. I personally find the Atomic Sauce to be zesty and delicious with a spicy kick. My friend Dom ordered the limited time Citrus Mojo Sauce for his chicken, and we both agree they need to keep this sauce on the menu. For those curious about it, it features garlic herb and citrus flavors. I am looking forward to going back to Wingstop soon and trying some of their other sauces on various menu options.

There was already a long line of customers waiting to be seated. But with patience the friendly hostess got to me and brought me to one of the booths of the place. As an appetizer I wanted to have their Mini Corn Dogs but they were so many for one person that the server suggested I have the Kids Mini Corn Dog as appetizer and I did. For my main course I had their Pork Barbecue Platter, with Pit Cooked Pork, Cole Slaw and Onion Rings as side items. I asked her about where the bar was and she told me on the other side.of the restaurant and that some nights they have live music there. On the other side of the restaurant and next to the bar, this other dining area is more elegant and stylist in part for the quality of the furniture and lighting treatment.
