A friendly spot for Mexican food in beautiful Buena Vista! A great spot where the community comes together. Also they offer convenient takeout, and a bar with all of the traditional Mexican drinks! Pros: Quick and Friendly service: The folks at Don Tequila were very friendly and seemed knowledgeable about their menu. They were open to answering questions about the various options and prices with each item. My friend and I received our takeout food very quickly, as well. - Ambiance and vibes of restaurant: The overall scene in the restaurant was happy and cheery, with upbeat Mexican music playing. The restaurant had many patrons, consisting of families and some young adults as well. Overall, a very active, bright and upbeat feeling. Very low prices: All food on the menu was incredibly reasonably priced. There were various entrée items for under $10, which was great to see. Portions were also quite large. Definitely a great deal. Free chips and very good salsa: The salsa accompanying the free chips was really delicious. Margarita was really good: My friend and I got a margarita (also really reasonably priced) and it was delicious. The perfect balance of alcohol to the margarita mix, and rimmed with salt! You can see it in the picture, as well. Cons: Enchilada was good, but tasted a bit more like a calzone: My friend ordered an enchilada, and while he enjoyed it, he told me that he felt that it tasted more like a calzone than like an enchilada. Would prefer that the food was cut into pieces: As mentioned above, the portion sizes were great! For the price, Don Tequilas was pretty good! The ambiance is cute with peppy Mexican music playing softly in the background. Service is friendly and incredibly fast. The price can't be beat, especially for the lunch specials. While we looked over the menu, the server gave us a basket of tortilla chips served with fresh salsa and a side of white sauce. Those chips were uhhhmazing. Thick, super crisp and fresh. I would come back just for the free chips. We ordered the lunch special #10 (beef enchilada, quesadilla, and chalupa). The hubby ordered the fajita lunch special, served with two tortillas. Portions were pretty large, and I actually couldn't finish mine, but that might be due to all the chips I ate. Yummm. I thought the food was pretty good, although the cheese tasted kind of like processed white american cheese (you know the individually wrapped Craft american cheese sheets that you buy at the grocery store, that stick to the roof of your mouth). Whether it was indeed that or some other cheese, i dont know, but it definitely wasn't the usual queso fresco/cotija. I also indulged in a lunchtime margarita. It was only $3.75 so I couldn't resist. It was delicious. Then I saw a sign that said $1.99 margaritas on Tuesdays. I know where I will be on Tuesdays. read more

Love this place. We stumbled upon it for the first time in 2013 on our first trip to the area to see Natural Bridge. Buena Vista is a very unassuming old Virginia town, and Don Tequila's is in a very unassuming old Virginia building. We were there today for maybe our fifth or sixth visit since 2013, and it was everything that we remembered. The food is great, and the employees are very friendly. They've recently done some renovations inside, and the place looks a lot nicer...don't let the very ordinary exterior fool you. Also, they give you the famous Virginia white sauce along with salsa for your chips. Highly recommended. It's to the point where when we are just in the general area, we find an excuse to make the trip to get to Don Tequila's. read more

While visiting the area we stopped into this restaurant for dinner...big mistake! The host walked us to our seats practically through the kitchen, servers coming out with sizzling hot food almost bumped into us..we get to our booth, the seats are lumpy, duct tape covering up tears in the back of the seats, floor was sticky..yuck. Asked for a drink menu, no prices on it..I hate ordering drinks with a surprise price tag. I ordered chicken fajitas, the tortillas were rolled up in aluminum foil, I guess they cooked then earlier and this was their way of keeping them warm, god only knows how old they were, they were hard on the edges. So anyway , like I said I ordered chicken fajitas, I found steak in it also...good thing I'm not a vegetarian! I picked the tomatoes out, never heard of tomatoes in fajitas. My boyfriend is still trying to figure out what he was served, it was supposed to be an enchilada ‍. All in all it was a very disappointing and disgusting meal. read more

I enjoy coming to Dons every time I come to Buena Vista. The white sauce they serve with their chia and salsa is delicious. I have never had anywhere else. The service is always fast. The prices are also very reasonable. My favorite thing to get is the soft taco. The cheese is sooo good. The only thing I can complain about is the prices for a side of sour cream or lettuce($1.50)? Even though the sour cream is expensive I always leave here happy. read more

There was nothing authentic or made from scratch about my meal. Food was not good and over priced. My family of four came here for lunch. We were charged $4.50 for Taxes, $3 per drink which I thought was ridiculous especially considering they fill your glass with ice to the top before they pour your drink. To be fair you may ask for a refill. However, it quickly adds up $12 for four drinks. Additionally, it was cold out and they must have had their heat on low being that it was chilly in there. Their seats were uncomfortable. We were seated at a booth and I sank into the seat when I sat down, not in a comfortable way. I am not a heavyset person by any means either. My husband and I had dinner here a year go while traveling and wanted to return for more of their great food. Last night we took another traveling couple with us and all of us raved about how delicious the food was: soft tacos, burritos, chili relenno, guacamole...all excellent!
