My friend, who lives in Lynchburg, took me back to La Tacqueria last night and the space seems so different!, but still colorful, very clean and hospitable. We are from CA, but comida is everywhere! He always orders street tacos, but I ordered huaracha, and when I asked for mixed special meats (buche, lengua, tripa), they were happy to comply. So delicious. and beautifully presented. Went here to lunch with Family and I have to say this cute little Mexican restaurant in a strip mall has some of the most authentic Mexican food that I have eaten. I had the Carne Asada tacos and they were absolutely delicious. The service was great we never needed for anything. Our cups were always full and our salsa dishes were always refilled along with the chip basket. Everybody's food was great And the prices are well worth the portions of food that you get. read more

Haven't been here in a few years and it didn't disappoint. They used to have a salsa bar but COVID destroyed that. They also expanded into the place next door but haven't lost their charm or great food. It took awhile to get our order in and we didn't get chips and salsa until we ordered guac but the salsa and guacamole were exceptional. My meal the chapo was probably one of the best meals I've ever had in Lynchburg. It's steak and chorizo, not for the faint of heart. I asked for hot sauce but it was so perfectly seasoned and spicy I didn't need it. My friend ordered the Burri he said this place changed him. Hes only had the lesser Mexican places LYH has to offer. I was very pleased with my experience here! I haven't been to this restaurant in years, but when I went back I was reminded why I liked it so much! The food is simply delicious. Chips and salsa were good. Chips served warm and salsa was heavy on tomato and light on spice. Queso fundido (queso and chorizo) was tasty with the chorizo on the crispy side. Carne asada was served with beans, rice, avocado slices, tomato, grilled onion, grilled whole jalapeño (hot AF) and corn tortillas. I typically like guacamole over sliced avocado with my carne asada and flour tortillas over corn. Chicken taco was ordered with a hard shell and came with a traditional soft corn tortilla topped with chopped onion and cilantro. Chicken was very tasty and served with a lime, tomatillo salsa and red salsa. Neither salsas I like regardless of where in at so I have no opinion on the flavor of those salsas. Chile Colorado had a bite to it according to my hot pepper loving hubby. He was worried about the potential of having to make an emergency stop off the highway so his body could "deal" with the aftershock of such hot peppers. Chile rellano was ok. Would have been better covered in red Chile rather than salsa. It was a large pepper and had ample cheese that my hubby is convinced will counter the hot pepper aftershock. read more

Hands down the best Mexican in Lynchburg. This is the real deal, authentic Tex Mex. Tons of flavor, always fresh and you won't break the bank going here. Chips and salsa aren't included, so don't expect that, but you should probably grab some with some queso too. My husband is a huge taco fan and loves the ones here. They come with your shell and meat and they have a buffet style cart for all your toppings so you can make all your taco dreams come true. He's opted for the California burrito lately (he adds queso on top) and its his new favorite. My go to is the quesadilla. If you just get a basic quesadilla, it's small, but you can do two and get your fill if needed, there may be a discount for two versus one. They just opened up the other half of the space and have a full bar and TVs as well as an expanded menu with charcoal chicken, hamburgers and a few other items. Forget La Carreta or any other Mexican or Tex/Mex place!!! This is the place to go if you're starving, the portions are HUGE and have taste. This place is tucked away literally off the side of the road next to the tienda. It's not huge and the menu options is just right, I feel like the other Mexican places put a whole bunch of choices to pick from but they all taste the same. Literally. What is a Quecas and where has it been all my life! How is it that no Mexican establishment I have visited, including Los Angeles joints, have ever served this?! A deep fried pillow of heavenly Mexican goodness. Oozy gooey cheese with your choice of meat, deep fried in a corn flour pocket. This is no doubt my new favorite Mexican dish. I have always been quite vocal about my feelings towards chorizo. I just have never been impressed. It's sausage with half the flavor in my experience. But when the nice lady behind the counter tells you you have to try the chorizo, you order the chorizo. My eyes light up as I take a bite. Now I get it. This is what good quality chorizo is suppose to taste like, and it's freaking delicious! Not to be outdone, the carnitas tacos are also flavorful and perfectly tender. This was intended to be a quick lunch option on the way to the airport. So quick that I decided to do take out. Really, avoiding starvation was my original mission. FINALLY!!! We relocated to Lynchburg a couple years ago from So Cal and have been dying on the garbage Mexican food doled out by the likes of La Carreta. Just about the only thing with miss from So Cal is the insanely good Mex food on every corner. On Saturday, we decided to try Taqueria with some hesitation. Truthfully, we have almost given up on Mex in The Burg. Mi Patron isn't bad and Fiesta Tapatia was a step up from that, but none have been great. We both got a burrito and it was SPOT ON! The chicken was a tad overcooked but everything else was delicious and authentic Mexican down to the tortilla. It has only been a couple days but, being Cinco de Mayo, we are heading back tonight. Omg! This place is amazing! Don't be fooled by the small exterior and interior. The food is some of the closest to authentic I've ever eaten. First, the wait staff is super attentive. What a great find while in the area visiting Peaks of Otter!!! While it was a good distance (20-30mins) from Blue Ridge Parkway, it was worth the drive and we would do it again. Some of the best Mexican food I've had since living in Cali. I had shrimp and carne asada tacos and BF had their texas fajitas. The shrimp tacos were amazing, their sauce put them over the top! It was some chipotle type sauce with a kick that paired well with shrimp and cabbage toppings in the taco. The carne asada was traditional version and tasted delicious too. BF said fajitas were delish; the veggies and meats were seasoned well and tasted so good he ate it without shells. The rice and beans that came as sides with fajitas were also a hit. I'm picky about my ride and beans and these get two thumbs up!! I also got some jamaica agua fresca to drink and it was a bit sweet. I prefer it more on the tangy side but it's a preference thing so not knocking them for it. Staff were nice and service was quick, a great find on a weekend getaway. read more

I take back what I said in my review of Fiesta Tapatia.... THIS PLACE is THE place for GOOD, AUTHENTIC Mexican food in Lynchburg... well tacos at least. This no frills taqueria really serves up wonderfully tasty and cheap tacos. Took us back to our trip to Mexico. Between my husband and I, we had the Al Pastor (seasoned pork), Carnitas (seasoned double-fried pork), Lengua (Beef Tongue), Tripe, Chorizo, Carne Asada tacos and a chicken Sope. The Al Pastor - a burst of heaven in your mouth... they really cooked this well. Carnitas - exactly what I expected. Small pieces of crispy but tender goodness. Lengua - LOVE. Try it. It's good. Tripe - Did I mention my affection for tripe? It was cooked really well, and the texture was just what it should be! (Tender but a bit of a chewy bite to it) I can't comment on the Chorizo or Carne Asada since I was too distracted by the other tacos that the hubs beat me to a taste. :) The Chicken Sope was good. Quite standard with the thick corn cake/tortilla as a base (like an arepa). I love how they come plain (only meat), on two soft corn tortillas, and you can dress them up as you like at the toppings bar. Previous reviewers were not kidding when they commented about this toppings bar... it has a wide array of flavors and textures, all in a self serve style... that really spoke to me... These people really want you to enjoy your tacos and truly have it YOUR way! Everything was very fresh and made to order. There was an extensive condiment bar. Primarily for the tacos which I regrettably did not try. Portions were definitely worth the price but not out of control. The interior of the restaurant was pretty standard for a low priced Mexican place. Semi-tacky with Mexican samba playing on the radio. Service was polite, quick, and helpful. This looks like a place that local Mexicans frequent. I was the only gringo in the place for lunch. If you want good Mexican food eat where the Mexicans eat. The food is good, cheap, and there are unique options with the most authentic Mexican feel in this area. Lynchburg has plenty of Mexican spots, so my partner and I decided to try a new one! Needless to say, we were pleased! While we don't eat meat, the staff was helpful and made special flautas just for us without meat. They came with a hearty side of rice and we ordered chips with guacamole and salsa as an appetizer. Everything was made fresh and tasty and very filling! I even had leftovers and each of us only paid $15, which is great for Mexican in Lynchburg in my experience.
