The Boonsboro location closed shortly after we moved to Lynchburg so even though friends raved, I never had the opportunity to dine there Then, it seemed to take forever for the new location to open but it was worth the wait! The location is spacious and inviting! They have well priced lunch specials. Complimentary chips and salsa were fresh and tasty. All three of us ordered Chimichangas! Not my norm, but I was with veterans! Perfectly fried and smothered with hot queso. What's not to like! Stopped in while we were visiting a friend nearby. While we really enjoyed the food I cannot say the same about the service. We were not checked on once during the time we were eating, no refills on drinks etc. Once we were finished our main course it was assumed we didn't want dessert. So, we've tried. We've tried PLENTY of times. While the food is "good" - decent portions and decent prices.. the service is just awful. Perhaps they weren't ready for an uptick in business with their new location...perhaps they just don't care but... Every server there is slow and absolutely unhappy. Prepare for your drinks to be empty for the majority of the time. Prepare for huffs and puffs when you ask for anything. In this neighborhood, there are very few selections. Two Italian restaurants, a breakfast place and a small barbecue joint... that isn't open for dinner. The great thing about this place is that is completely friendly. The staff is great. The food is consistent but if you were looking for authentic Mexican, it probably isn't here. They serve the things that they think Americans believe are Mexican food. Quesadillas, fajitas, burritos... But the food is good. I just had a hamburger. It was remarkably good and the biggest piece of meat I think I've ever eaten in my life. They tried to Mexican it up with avocado and hot peppers, which I discarded. Came here for brunch at opening time of 11am on a Thursday. We were warmly greeted and served with efficiency and courtesy. I had huevos con chorizo which was among the best I have ever tasted. The accompanying rice and beans were also very good. My companion had taquitos with guacamole which were also first rate. This was our first visit and granted, we were the only people in the place, but I was impressed. The food was at least as good, if not better than El Mariachi, and that's saying something in Lynchburg. 1st off. It took 30 mins to got someone to even walk up to me and ask me what I wanted. I ordered and i waited 45+ mins for MY DRINK. About an hour had past since I ordered and I still had nothing. I confronted a waitress and they said they forgot my order. I was okay with it the first time since it was busy. I waited AGAIN for 10+ mins and finnally got my drink. I think Taco Bell would have been a better choice.. The salsa tastes like a can of crushed tomatoes with a fairy pinch of other flavors. The chimichangas tasted of boiled chicken and naught else. The beef soft taco is what really shows the lack of well, everything. The beef is dry and tastes like a flavoring packet out of the grocery store, there wasn't a lot of this dry, generic meat(but I'm not complaining), there was a sprinkling of processed cheese, they could have just left the refried beans in the can and given me a spoon. Hello I am not able to pull up for candlers mt road location but I just bought lunch from there and I am completely dissatisfied. Mi Patron's has been my all time favorite restaurant here in Lynchburg but recently with each of the locations I have not been satisfied. Today I purchased the special chimichanga with grilled chicken for an extra $1. The chicken is so tough and dry it appears to be old meat that has been sitting forever. The guacamole literally looked like a half of a spoon. THe shell wasn't wrapped completely and was tough as hell. I am just disappointed. This establishment has been great in the past years and now it just seems thrown together. The other location near the airport, we had an issue with what looked like spoiled cheese dip. It looked curdled. I don't know what has changed but my goodness. I depend on yall lol lol!!!! read more

The staff and the owners were the nicest people I have ever met! It was as if they knew me already and treated me like family. Overall, the place was tidy and clean and the food was worth any wait I had expected. They truly have the best authentic mexican food, I ordered the enchiladas suizas because every time I try a new mexican restaurant I have to see how their dish varies, and I must admit they are on top! Also, they have vegetarian options which was great for my friends who aren't the biggest fans of meat. I would name this place top of the list in Virginia restaurants. As a fan of their food, I have ceased coming here, and I'll tell you why. I've never seen staff so rude to their regulars, I actually saw a waiter (that we unfortunately always were 'stuck' with) roll his eyes when he saw us in his station. We have been good tippers, pleasant (I don't put up with 'diva' behavior from anyone) and genuine. Here is where I will momentarily digress: This is what the feeling like, let's say you have an old friend and you've met several times in jubilation. You've schmoozed, had drinks and bought delicious cheese dip with said old friend. Suddenly, old friend makes you feel unwanted and expendable, as if you're an annoyance...yet you cannot fathom what you have done. The fact is, you haven't done anything to warrant such ignoble behavior, they've just decided for whatever reason, you as a customer simply aren't worth the time & effort. The last time I visited, the experience was so unpleasant that I had to make the horrible decision to never return. I have since spoken to others if they have made the jaunt to Mi Patron and 4 out of the 6 people I conversed with said they haven't returned for EXACTLY the same reason (Whew! It's not me!). The waitstaff is rude, period, point made. They don't care if you return because it's not THEIR establishment, but the owner(s) should be made aware of his/her/their staff's indignant behavior. If they don't care for the job, perhaps they need to move on to other careers. I have worked in the service industry for many years, and customer (no matter what) is king. And even though I have had to encounter difficult people and I would like to be in another field, it is what it is. One day I hope to return to a new crew at this place, until then, go to the MI PATRON near the LYNCHBURG AIRPORT, they are very kind, helpful and friendly or head on over to Fiesta Tapatia. First, I must say that I recently moved to Lynchburg from living in So Calif for 57 years and ate Mexican food probably 5 days a week either at home or out. The style of the food in Lynchburg, with few exceptions, is different. The positives of Mí Patrón, the staff is friendly and helpful, a few language challenges. The ambience is casual, fun and comfortable. The prices are VERY reasonable. My favorite dishes are the chili Colorado and chili verde. My negatives, number one is the cheese goo in the cheese enchiladas and nachos. It remind me of chunky Cheez Wiz.. The tacos are made with premade shells and remind me of Taco Bell. The bar, or I should say, what bar? The servers fill their own drink orders. I ordered a drink on the menu and the server did not know what it was or how to make it and suggest another that was terrible. Their margaritas are ok, but VERY sweet. Where is Jon Taffer? Overall it is good and a good value. I would love to make Mí Patrón my regular spot, but not quite there for me. read more

I have to say I probably expected more, but I definitely was not impressed. For the amount of money I paid I would of been better off eating at Taco Bell. I was looking for some real Mexican Food, pretty much like I'd find in Southern California (where I'm originally from) and was very disappointed. We had just moved southside (Lynchburg) and wanted to try out "Taco Tuesday - .99 each!" Service was a bit slow but still thorough. Waiter took our order and brought out fresh, rich salsa. Extremely good! We ordered our tacos and when they arrived - TERRIBLE! Our soft tacos soaking wet with so much juice the shells stuck together!
