The drinks are always fun - look for seasonal specials. Our favorite app is "crack" dip - cream cheese, sausage and some other delicious ingredients. One favorite dinner entrees are Fish and Chips - the batter is crisp (so are the fries!) and the fish is fresh. Another favorite is the Beef Stew- a small but hearty portion , the gravy is divine. Don't skip dessert: the peanut butter pie !!

We had our 12 lb bundle of puppy joy with us so to the back deck we went. I think Dakotah was the only server on the main floor, both inside and out because it took a long time. Long time for water. He was busy even though the restaurant wasn't full. Poor guy. My hubby ordered the muffaletta and wasn't impressed. He ate it though. He loved his Abita root beer. I decided to order from the side menu and I'm so happy I did. The andouille sausage was grilled and tasty. The maque choux was amazing. Think Mexican corn with a Louisiana twist. Perfection!! The loaded grits were also wonderful- chocked full of gouda, bacon, and green onions. Delicious! The gumbo was thick like a stew. The flavor was smoky and sublime. My only beef is instead of all gumbo, the cup was filled mostly with rice... topped with gumbo. Overall we enjoyed our dinner. However, due to the pace of things, the underwhelming sandwich and perception of getting shorted on the chicken and gumbo. I wouldn't hesitate to swing by and order a maque choux to go as a snack except they charge $1 for the to-go container.

I had Prosecco, brussel sprouts (that she recommended) and the shrimp and grits. So delish! The low country boil really looked good too. The staff even pour a birthday candle in the chocolate cake we ordered since we were celebrating a birthday. Nice touch. While we were dressed up, some people were in tshirts and shorts. But most people weren't. I would definitely recommend this spot right on the square.

The waitress had an attitude and did not make any good recommendations. Anything we wanted to ask about on the menu, she would deter us from it. I noticed that her attitude got worse after the manager (or maybe he was the owner) checked on us. He was super nice, but she acted like we were bothering her from the minute we got seated. Can't remember her name but she was short and had curly hair. Anyhow, as far as the food goes - like I said the oysters were excellent. The pasta dishes we ordered were not. Shrimp carbonara was OK, pork belly just wasn't crispy as it stated on the menu. But the dish we really had an issue with was the Thai Coconut Noodles...the sauce was sooo sweet, it wasn't Thai coconut, and whoever made this never tasted Thai food in their life before. I couldn't eat the pasta at all and only ate the protein I added on top. The waitress noticed I didn't eat my food, but didn't care and just gave me a confused look as she took my plate away. I didn't even want to bother with her. Anyway, I probably would only come back for maybe appetizers if I had to and wouldn't order anything too creative on the menu - KEEP IT BASIC at this spot!

This was about…read more10-15 minutes from campus (downtown Dahlonega) I attended a wedding of my friends Katherine and Chris at the winery - honestly I didn't taste any of the wine (yes I know, bad) but enjoyed myself. The venue is pretty spectacular with great views of the surrounding hills and valleys along with the vineyards as the hang of the side of the mountain. There were two aspects that pushed my opinion down a bit, neither are really the fault of the venue or business so I've stayed with the 5-stars. The wedding was held in an outdoor pavilion with great views, but during the first week of August quite hot. There are ceiling fans but they didn't help too much - I was sweltering in my jacket and tie by the time the ceremony ended (just be aware if you book something here during the hot season). The second, there are a lot of stairs as you are on the side of a mountain. If you have a hard time traversing a lot of stairs, there are other means of getting around so once again be aware. The main "hall" has windows with fantastic views. I thought the food was exceptional and wish I had taken more photos, but there were a lot of poor lighting (I was seated next to the dance area). My apologies for the missing check in and the lack of photos but I didn't want to be obnoxious at a wedding. Overall I love the rustic charm of this place and plan to return and more fully explore the wine offerings. I thought the service was exceptional with very accommodating staff, especially the bartenders.

Sadly, I arrived 30 minutes before closing so I had enough time for a glass of wine but not a time for tasting. The building and property is expensive with beautiful views of grapevine's leading up to the main building. There are several outdoor areas from which to choose to sit. The top one is covered with ceiling fans. With the threat of storms this afternoon, I chose to sit there. The view here is absolutely stunning- I can see several other mountains and the storms in the distance. The friendly host us at the register reviewed some wines with me so I chose the Plenitude. It's a blend of steel aged Chardonnay with voignier. It's crisp and perfect for a hot summer day. If you are in the area for an event or a weekend or an overnight, I highly recommend visiting both Mountain Vineyards and Winery.

The burger and tater tots were also very good. The menu offers a wide variety of specialty burgers with plenty of customization options, including grass-fed beef for a small upcharge. Fair prices for the quality and quantity of food--definitely left in a food coma. Service: Service was efficient and the food came out well-prepared. No major issues during the visit. Atmosphere: Located in downtown Dahlonega, making it easy to explore nearby shops and dessert spots before or after your meal. The tavern has a darker, eclectic vibe with artwork, punk music, and a slightly edgy feel. The décor fits the restaurant's origins and personality, though the lighting--including in the restrooms--is quite dim. Parking downtown can be somewhat difficult during busy times.

Something about the Picnic Cafe name made me think the food would be a little more homemade, cute in presentation, etc. but that wasn't quite the case. Our food was served on styrofoam, the coffee drinks were a-okay (from a machine) and the jelly was served in packets (I'm not sure why but I really pictured sweet local jams or something that would tie back to the name and feel of the business). The bakery case offered croissants, cookies, etc. I didn't try any of those for myself so I can't speak to them.
