I just want to give a HUGE shout to Foothill Donuts. I have always ordered my daughter a number donut for her birthday. I normally go to bakers dozen but this year i called and emailed over a week in advance and never heard back. I was super upset waiting and hoping and ended up stuck the day before her birthday to figure something out. I called Foothill Donuts at noon, asked if they can help save the day, and they said our baker comes in tonight and he will call you. I get a call at 6 friday night saying they can do it, AND will have it ready next day. I was worried as it was short notice, but they went above and beyond anything I was expecting. They made the perfect, delicious donut. Not one but two and then they gave them to my daughter for FREE ! She was so excited in the car and said it was the best birthday ever. Foothill Donuts quickly won me over as my favorite local donut shop on my first, so I'm not sure why I've waited this long to finish my review, unless it was some subconscious extension of the anticipation I had for a new donut shop when the shopping center was first being built -- it was probably less than a couple years, but in covid years, it felt like five -- haha! The service is always friendly, the donuts and croissants are fresh and plentiful, and they have all-day hours, which is nice when I've got a hankering for a starchy sweet treat while running errands at 4 in the afternoon. Full disclosure: I'm a fully uncertified apple fritter critic. It's one of my main items upon which I judge a donut shop, and theirs is most definitely up to snuff! Perfectly crispy on the outside; tender and full of apple chunks and cinnamon inside. Unlike my former favorite Corona donut shop, Foothill Donuts keeps them properly stocked throughout the day - woo-hoo!! Their jalapeño, ham and cheese filled croissants hit the spot for a savory breakfast, and their made-to-order sandwiches are also super tasty! So many varieties of donuts grace the cases, that it would be hard to try all of them or pick just one favorite, but I've certainly started the challenge... This donut shop was so warm and welcoming as soon as we stepped in. The staff was so friendly and patient with us. Plus it's so cute inside! I ordered the iced Vietnamese coffee and it's delicious. I like sweeter coffees so I was concerned that it would be strong because of how dark in color it was. However it was the perfect amount of sweet. I ordered the crème brûlée donut and the cinnamon roll. The crème brûlée had a little too much cream for my liking so I just wiped some of it off. I personally think it's better to have too much cream than not enough so I was okay with that. The cinnamon roll was good as well! It wasn't the best I've ever had but it was good. I was super excited when I saw they were opening a new donut shop nearby. When I arrived around 8am, there was already a pretty long line. I was even more excited to try it as it just be good with so many people around. We ordered half a dozen to try a few different ones. The regular donuts are soft and fluffy, but they lack a good flavor. I really love apple fritters and obvi had to try theirs. It just tasted fried. You know how when you deep fry something and leave it for a while then the only thing it tastes like is fried dough? It didn't have that apple cinnamon flavor that I love. Haven't had donuts in probably 6 years - I get addicted to them, and then I eat too many too often. I also transitioned to vegan about 5 years ago, so that also was a reason to stay away from many sweet treats - most are not vegan. But I just found this place on Yelp last night, and they have vegan donut options, mostly on weekends, and it's about 6 or 7 miles away, so that will keep me from getting back into a daily donut habit. Got a couple vegan chocolate bars and blueberry-filled today, as she had a special order for a vegan batch today, so she added those in for me. Very cool. Will probably visit there once per month on a Sunday - also some other places nearby that I need to also go to anyway at least once per month. So that all works for me. I do wish they had some outside tables where I could then kick it with a couple donuts and a coffee, and maybe even take Chipper my pooch. But that would just be icing on the cake.
