Restaurant Bar

Just ate a variety of dishes here today for lunch aboard Norwegian Escape, and was quite pleased with what I sampled. This Asian fusion restaurant with sliders and other comfort food shareables brought forward a number of delicious edible treats. In no particular order, Diane and I sampled two perfectly medium rare Pub Sliders featuring small but thick burgers sandwiched within a plain but golden bun smeared with very good 1,000 Island Sauce, and sharing space with fresh lettuce, a tomato slice, and young pickles. Broiled Bay Scallops were unusual in color and taste: green with Shiso Garlic Butter augmented by a nice crunchy coating. They were tasty, and Diane found them to be just right in texture, but I thought the one I tried was slightly undercooked. A large bowl of Yaki Soba included wild mushrooms, some coconut milk, Yuzu Soy, and Bok Choy, and reminded me somewhat of a very good Tom Kha Kai. It was filling, and the fresh mushrooms were particularly notable. Short Rib & Corn was a very tasty dumpling that harmonized well with Black Truffle, a creamy White Corn Soy Sauce, and Parmesan accents. And in the sushi column I found a Tiger Roll to be quite delicious and spot on, combining Spicy Tuna, a Crab Mix, and avocado, with golden, crunchy but not overcooked Shrimp Tempura segments protruding from the ends of this fine cut roll. Servers were omnipresent and helpful. Orders are placed on a notepad, with space permitting special instructions like placing sauce on the side, removing a listed ingredient altogether, or specifying spice level and desired doneness of meat. This is an extra charge eatery, but costs are nominal. Our total bill was $39.00 for two, which included an automatic 18% gratuity. An altogether enjoyable experience looking out at sea from the floor to ceiling glass while dining aboard this hip cruise liner that is packed with inventive specialty restaurants!

Food Republic is on Deck 8 and it's some great casual food on the Norwegian Escape! It's mostly tapas from all over the world or at least with a fusion twist - mostly an Asian fusion twist. Important to note, all food at Food Republic is at an extra charge and all priced a la carte. You can also order a few select Food Republic items in the District Brewhouse. The Korean Chicken wings are not too spicy and straight money! They aren't too bad at just $5 for a decent sized portion. Plus you can get sushi! Ahhhhh sushi fix filled. Open nightly from 530-10pm, it's worth a pop in!

Pork. Belly. Yum.

Food Republic was the most interesting restaurant on any NCL ship. The atmosphere alone was enough to keep me going back. I was definitely impressed by the cleanliness of the restaurant and the friendliness of the wait staff. You would think that a restaurant where people have to order using iPads would have sticky and dirty fingerprints everywhere, but not this one. It was spotless. We tried a little bit of everything. The two must-try dishes would have to be the pork belly kushiyaki and the dates with chorizo. Both were so simple, but so flavorful. I was not a fan of the drinks because I tried a coconut milk citrus drink and I almost spit it out. It was awful. A lot of the food had really good presentation, but the taste was nothing spectacular. I felt like the more complex they tried to get, the more the dish suffered. The fried dumplings were really salty as though they were trying to season it to death. I think this restaurant is definitely more about the "cool" factor rather than the "taste" factor because while the idea for this restaurant was dope, the food quality and taste was seriously lacking. 1 star for the food, 2 for the ambiance and cleanliness of the place.

Rock shrimp roll. Just wow.

One of a kind place. Nothing on this menu is bad..won't even call it mediocre. Order from a iPad and enjoy everything brought out. Suggest trying as much as you can.

I find this disappointing as I always like to go to try different dishes from the standard menu. To me it shows that the restaurants that do a special menu are normally more innovative. Had I known this beforehand I would not have come. Having said that the food I sampled was decent enough. My appetizer was the Korean chicken which was plentiful. My main was the ribs. I was surprised to see that it was just that only meat. I expected there to have been a bit of a garnish or greens. Between the ribs and chicken my whole diet was meat. The dessert was two choices. I went with the chocolate cake. The hocolate cake slice was the smallest slice I've ever been served in a restaurant. I really liked the decor. I also really liked the music that was being played. Service was efficient. The ladies toilets had a damp smell. Overall I was disappointed and would not visit again.

Even with reservations they were a little slow in seating for a fairly empty restaurant (noon). Ordered drinks (tea $6 and coffee $5) then brunch. Seems like service coordination is very off. My spouse got the appetizer a good 15 minutes before mine. I had the biscuit, that was very tasty. The fruit, granola yogurt was good too. The main of crab Benedict was served, next although already cooled and the sauce a congealed. My main, after a good 30 minutes still had not arrived. Apparently a steak and eggs can be miscooked and they had redone it, never bothering to tell us. I did not try it there. Refills on the coffee were never offered. We took the steak and our cinnamon buns to go since we had been there long enough. The final kicker is they have an automatic 20% service charge in order to ensure the staff is paid enough. Seems like a business problem to me. Service was not up to that high of a standard. If you go during Miami Spice I hope they have figured out how to sequence the courses and get them to the table correctly while still hot.

We sat at the bar before being seated at our table and the bartender was very lovely and attentive. She got us waters, and then we were seated to our table. Did the Miami spice menu which had okay options but I definitely feel they could've done better with their choices. Very basic Miami spice experience. Nothing that screamed wow. The walnut shrimp was delicious and came with a good portion though! The pepper steak was good but again, no wow. The ube flan didn't give flan and again, it was just okay, no wow. Would I go back? Maybe, but not something I'd rave about

Mediocre Food, Insultingly Small Portions and Poor Service…read more Unfortunately, Komodo was a major disappointment. The food was mediocre--especially for a Miami Spice menu--and nowhere near the upscale experience we expected. After spending almost $400 for my husband and I, I would have expected more. The portions were insultingly tiny, with the exception of the chicken salad. The salmon tacos contained what tasted like salmon "paste," and each taco shell was barely two inches long. They were so ridiculously small that even our waiter chuckled. The "half Maine lobster" was about the size of a jumbo shrimp, with no claw. The main course came with no sides so for $65 jumbo shrimp that was it. If you actually want a meal expect to pay extra for "fried" rice that was super bland and churrasco 10 oz extra at $12. So my steak meal was $87 and for that I could have had a real upscale experience at Daniel's in the Gables with upscale service and food. The experience started poorly when the four of us were seated at an awkward, cramped table with no legroom. We were positioned facing outward instead of toward one another, making normal conversation nearly impossible. It was a very strange setup for a party of four. Also, it was very warm in the restaurant and I would have asked to adjust but at the look at the servers face and everyone else I was afraid to say anything that something would happen to my food. The hostess also forgot to give us the Miami Spice menu. As soon as we requested it, the waiter's attitude noticeably changed, and the service went downhill from there. By the end of the night, the restaurant was overcrowded, with a very young crowd pouring into the bar area, and everything felt disorganized and poorly managed. Miami Spice used to be a wonderful way to experience Miami's better restaurants. Unfortunately, this felt more like a complete rip-off than a special dining experience. Komodo did not deliver the quality, portions, service or atmosphere its prices and reputation suggest. They should not be participating in Miami Spice as they have no upscale food to offer. My only regret is I didn't take pictures for potential customers to see how terrible this experience was and food looked. This was highly disappointing,,,save your money.

I honestly wasn't sure if my husband and I would ever come back to MILA after our first experience…read morea few years ago. We were in Miami for the weekend and had already tried some really great restaurants, so we went back and forth about coming here again. But I kept hearing great things about MILA and figured every place deserves a second chance. I'm really glad we did! We had a 10:30pm reservation on Sunday, September 6th and arrived maybe 5-10 minutes early. Completely different experience this time around. The hostess was great and we sat at the bar while we waited. The bartender was super friendly. I had a tequila shot and he recommended a beer for my husband that he ended up loving. We honestly didn't wait long at all, maybe another 5-10 minutes, before the hostess came to get us. We ended up sitting outside on the patio right where the show was happening, which was such a nice surprise. We had an amazing view, the DJ Lyla was right in front of us and the music was great all night. Our waiter was also top notch. He recommended some really good drinks and food and took great care of us. We had sashimi, sushi and the Chilean sea bass, which they deboned right in front of us. So good!! Overall, this visit completely changed my opinion from our first experience. Great service, great staff, food, music and atmosphere. I'm really happy we decided to come back. We're from LA and usually make our way back to Miami every couple of years. We're already talking about coming back for our daughter's 21st birthday, and after this experience MILA will definitely be on our list again. Glad we gave it a second chance!

He clearly does not know how to speak to customers with basic respect and courtesy. We were standing near the elevator taking pictures, just like other guests were doing throughout the restaurant. However, the manager singled us out and tried to push us out of the area while other people were taking pictures without being treated the same way. What made this experience even more disturbing was that we appeared to be the only Black guests in the restaurant. Seeing other people allowed to take pictures while we were treated this way made us question whether we were being treated differently because of our race. Let me be clear: nobody should be made to feel unwelcome, targeted, or disrespected in a restaurant simply because of who they are. Even if there was a concern about where we were standing, there was a respectful way to communicate that. The manager chose to approach us in a rude and hostile manner instead. MILA presents itself as a luxury dining destination, but luxury means absolutely nothing when the people managing the establishment lack basic manners and professionalism. Expensive decor and a beautiful atmosphere cannot make up for discriminatory treatment and terrible customer service. Management needs to take a serious look at how its staff treats guests. No restaurant is above criticism, and no customer should have to tolerate being treated like they don't belong. Based on our experience today, I would not recommend MILA to anyone who expects to be treated with dignity and respect. Absolutely disappointing.

The acrobatic shows began at 8:00 p.m., with additional performances at 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. The acrobat was graceful, mesmerizing, strong, and sexy. When we made our reservation, we also asked for a table with a good view of the show, and they accommodated us with a fantastic front-row view from one of the couches. It was so much better than our previous visit, when we were trying to peer around a pillar and across the restaurant to see the performance. If seeing the show is important to you, I definitely recommend requesting a table with a good view when you make your reservation. Before the show the DJ plays music. The volume was at a good level, loud enough to be fun but soft enough to be able to hear each other talk. Although the restaurant initially feels like an indoor space, the central courtyard is actually open-air with overhead coverings, so there is plenty of fresh air while still feeling sheltered. Tall palm trees, pools of water, couches, and traditional dining tables create a beautiful and distinctive atmosphere. Overhead fans kept the temperature surprisingly comfortable despite the Miami heat. For Miami Spice, we had the tuna tacos, miso branzino, and Milk Tea for dessert -- jasmine green tea crème brûlée with honey tea jelly and lychee sorbet. Dining at Jaya was one of the highlights of our trip to Miami. Delicious food, great service, a beautiful atmosphere, and wonderful entertainment made it much more than just dinner. The ambiance was incredible. It is outdoors so you will need to prepare for the elements. We also had live music while we were there. Service was pretty great in the beginning, very attentive, but you could tell when the restaurant was starting to get busier, which meant our server was occupied for longer periods of time. It took us some time to get our server to bring the check. It's a 2-hour dining experience that you pay $110/person plus the 20% service charge but we ended up getting shuffled out about an hour and a half into it. I'm assuming she was the manager who was directing other staff to "get these people out of here" to our table and the surrounding tables next to us. Which the tables next to us sat after us, so they were there for even less time. So aside from the older woman, who I assume was a manager, everything else was great!
