Folsom Lake Honda recommended this Star certified smog testing location. I came around 8 am and there was 1 car already ahead of me but minutes later my car was next. The smog test took only a few minutes and passed. Fortunately Mike the owner diagnosed a small tear in the air intake tubing and required that the part be replaced prior to passing final inspection. After going to the car part store, going home to replace the part with my neighbor's help, I came back for a retest which was free. I passed and was issued my certificate. Awful experience. First the owner told me I couldn't come in at 4:00 even though he was open until 5:00 because "it was a slow day" and he wanted to go home. I got there at 3:30, rang the doorbell per their instructions multiple times, nobody came out. Eventually called their phone and he came out and claimed I didn't push the right button, even though I obviously did. Very disrespectful right off the bat. He started the test and told me my OBD plug was bad and his system couldn't read the truck. He gave it a quick second attempt, insisted his equipment was fine and the problem was my truck, and sent me away. Even threw in a quick complaint about the location of the factory truck battery location under the hood. I drove down the street to Smog It Up! and they took care of me right away. No issues with the truck or plug. Ownership is clearly tired of being in the business and customer support has gone downhill. read more

We required to do STAR smog check so we went on Monday morning around 8am. We waited for about 20 mins since there were 2 cars ahead of us. The test was quick and straight forward. We waited in a small waiting area with 2 chairs & umbrella outside. It took about 10-15 mins for the test and we were good to go. My go-to smog place. Always professional, friendly, and fast even if there's a line. Last time I was here I recently had gone to the dealership to get some work done and had no idea that they reset the battery. I also didn't realize that this messes up smog tests. My car, of course, didn't pass the test but the owner reassured me that it was totally fine and told me to put about 100 miles on the car then come back for a free retest. I returned a few days later, retested for free, and passed. Yes, there is a time frame to come back to get retested for free, but no big deal, just make sure you get back there within that time frame. I called ahead to double check the shop was open and talking walk-ins. The gentleman confirmed that as long as I made it in by 12 I would get seen. I re-arrenged my plans to make it to the shop early and arrived at 11:05. After waiting for 10 minutes the gentleman then turned me away in preparation for his 12 o'clock lunch. The gentleman explained that though I called ahead, he got more walk-ins than anticipated and told me to come back at 12:50. It was very frustrating to re-arrange my day based on the phone call then get told to come back once I was already there. I completed my smog service elsewhere and don't plan to return to this shop. I'm giving three stars to be fair as I didn't receive a smog service and my review is limited to my customer experience there. read more

Came here in 2022 to smog my 1997 vehicle and again in 2024. Both times I received professional and fast service. Mike is easy to work with and does a great job every time. I had to wait in line for the 1-3pm slot on a Wednesday with 3 cars ahead (they were newer vehicles) and was faster than I anticipated even when he finished my car. The positive is that the price of the smog check is reasonable with the online coupon. The service was under 15 minutes but by the time I left there was a line of 4 cars. There is a small table outside with two chairs for you to wait. The negative would be the customer service or the lack of. You ring a door bell when you arrive and fill out one form. There is no greeting at all. The couple literally tells you what to do - pull forward, pop the hood, etc. Literally takes two seconds and cost them nothing to show some human interaction. Cones are setup to guide customers where to drive up, but assuming the car needs to go into the garage (fair assumption) it's hard to interpret where exactly to drive up to. Mike made that abundantly clear by tap-tap-tapping on a sign after I had rang the doorbell for service. Signs are posted to wear mask when entering, and to only enter to pay. Seems reasonable. I wore a mask to be compliant, yet Mike did not have a mask on while taking my info, leaning in to my car, or while inside the lobby collecting my payment. This is not a debate about masks. If a business posts their business practices, they should follow them. Don't ask of people something that you are unwilling to do yourself. read more

They are a semi-retired couple who can't hire people right now, so they begrudgingly run this business. If there is a problem they will tell you to pound sand in your ass. You should feel lucky that they took the time at all, I guess. The Story They ran the test on my car and told me it was fine. I submit paperwork to DMV and they tell me it didn't pass. Turns out the smog "technician" (aka The Distracted Owner) misread the report so I needed to come down to their shop again, wait in line and do the whole thing again. (But not on my lunch hour b/c they close then.) They refused to give me a refund or discount- just an apology and excuses for why they weren't paying attention. Unfortunately I clearly recall he and his wife standing around chatting with their daughter and her husband, walking their dog around, etc. Just chatting away when they should've been focusing on my report. I personally experienced TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. The wife was extremely rude. I walked in and she stared at me until i finally got past the awkward silence and asked for the smog test. Apparently you have to wait in your car bc the lobby is closed (even though the front door had a sign saying 'mask required when entering'.) Yes it is COVID-19 times and most lobbies are closed... Instead, maybe have a sign that says 'wait IN car for assistance'. In this case, if you're not comfortable with ONE person in the store then simply lock the front door... don't shooo away customers... good communication goes a long way! Also take into consideration that some of your customers are out of state and have never had a smog test done so talking to them like they are incompetent or a child is simply rude!!! read more

After an afternoon at the Roseville DMV, I had to go home and get some documents. I went back to the Folsom DMV and I checked in when I realized I needed a smog check too, eeekkkk I got in my car, yelped a smog check place nearby and raced over. When I got there they said it would take about an hour. Even though they didn't have any clients waiting. So I yelped the next one close by and came to Folsom Smog, where they greeted me, helped me right away and had me out of there in no time. I was able to use a coupon from their website too! My family and I have been coming here for 15+ years. NOT ANYMORE!!! One of the technicians broke something on my car. Not a huge deal but they refused to fix It because my car was older and "It must have been getting ready to break!" It was a $7 dollar part, nothing expensive. Just the principle of a customer who has smogged 15 cars with you. The gentleman owner is nice but his wife is loud and obnoxious. She told me if I didn't like their answer, then do not come back. Sounds like a plan, I am not coming back. It is worth paying a little extra to go to the place off of Prairie City. It is cleaner and more professional. I've never had a terrible experience getting my vehicle smog-checked until I brought it here. I brought it in to get it tested and they gave me a certificate and said it passed. Well months later, when I finally was able to make a DMV appointment, it turns out it _hadn't_ passed because of some computer code. That would have been nice to know. It also would have been nice to receive a refund for what ended up being a useless visit. The other issue I had was that immediately after the smog check, my vehicle hood latch stopped working. They claimed that even though it worked immediately before that it wasn't their fault and offered no recompense. Amusingly, he mentioned that someone else had had the same exact problem after taking it here. Hmm... maybe it's a pattern? On both occasions when I called to discuss these issues, the wife was unhelpful and accusatory - saying it must be something I did wrong, etc. and how they seem to have lots of customers that have problems that all happen to be the customers' fault. I went to this location for a few years but will NEVER go there again. I recently changed the battery in my vehicle and did not put enough miles on it to reset the computer. They told me to drive it for about 100 miles and bring it back, no big deal. I left work early and returned after driving about 200 miles. I got there about 4:00 and was told they don't do rechecks after 3:00. I asked them to please complete the check and was told no. There was no one, not a sole behind me waiting but they refused saying that is their rule. I explained that I am a nurse and work all the time, and really have difficulty getting there before 3:00, but they sent me away. When I had the first test done the guy talked to me for over 15 minutes about nonsense with several people in line. He apparently has time to talk with three cars waiting behind me but not time to recheck my car with no one behind me?!?! I did some work on my car and had to disconnect the battery again. I drove about 75 miles and brought it back today to recheck. I took the day off from the hospital to get this done but apparently I didn't put enough miles on it. I would have driven more but had to get there by 3:00. They told me my car still needs more miles for it to pass but they will not recheck it again and I will have to pay the total amount again. Really? I have 7 cars in our household and will never go there again. They are quick to take your money but have absolutely no concern for people. As a nurse of 28 years it saddens and sickens me to see the lack of compassion and just general kindness from people. Please, consider taking your vehicles somewhere else.
