Trying to explain problems about a vehicle over the phone is difficult so you will most likely need to take your vehicle in so they can drive it and maybe take it apart a little to see what is wrong. They have night drop offs that makes things really easy so you can just drop off your car whenever so you don't have to take off of work. Folks, I can't tell you how many times I've talked to the owner on the phone and tried to explain a weird car noise to him... As a newlywed my wife and I took a trip from California to Nevada. We had just had our car checked out by another company and felt good driving our Lexus to Utah and back. Unfortunately, on the way home my car had a violent break down in the Nevada Desert. So I called Ron hoping there was a quick fix. He said it sounded like a rod and I would need a new engine or a new car. (Keep in mind this is over the phone in bad reception) we got the car to a small town and another mechanic came out from his shop to see the young couple and look at their car. This mechanic diagnosed "word for word" what Ron had over the phone. Tho I sold my car to that mechanic and rented a uhaul to get home. I never forgot the honesty of that phone call. I only take my cars to Ron. They don't miss things, they always tell me the truth and just the other day I called him again. My friend is a single mother with 2 new babies. (Dad walked out as soon as they were born) My friend has been fighting to get back on her feet and starts a new job in a week, but her car broke down. She called me and I called Autocraft. I came here due to the fact, they would smog my old 96 truck. A few other places I had gone to would only do 2000 or newer models. This place was great quick easy and affordable. My granddaughter has a 2005 Honda Civic, in which, she had already invested many dollars, with the help of a friend, trying to solve an overheating problem. She was ready to junk the car and wanted to purchase a new car, in spite of her existing car being very solid, with the exception of an overheating problem. I have used Auto Craft since the mid 1970s and was sure that they would be able to solve the problem. They determined that it was a blown head gasket. They had the head resurfaced and did a valve job, while the head was off. The car now runs like a top and the final bill was $200 less than the estimate. Ok well, these guys probably saved me tons of money. I had an electrical issue that was preventing me from getting the car smogged. It was the fourth place I had gone to. While they were trying to figure out what was going on, the electrical issue went away long enough for them to put it on the smog machine and pass me. Electrical issues can be funny like that. They noticed it was working and quickly put it on the machine before the problem re-occurred. In summary, I told them, I just wanted to pass smog and that was all I wanted. They were able to get it done for a fraction of what I was afraid I would have to pay. So thumbs up for honesty and the can do attitude. read more

My worst experience of service for a few last years. Was looking around for SMOG station to bring my RV for a SMOG check because of my favorite Gold Country Service Center did not have smog certified technician available at the time. Some places did not accept RVs, some had smog machine broken, etc., and finally found the Autocraft in Orangevale, CA. They picked up the phone, which was already a pleasant surprise and said that yes they performing smog check on RVs and no appointment is necessary but I must be there at 8 am Monday - Fryday. So far everything was looking good so I called my manager and asked for a few hrs off on Monday morning which I will compensate by working on my weekend. Monday at 7:45 am I was at Autocraft door with my RV. The door was already open so I went in and introduced myself and showed the tech all my paperwork. After checking my paperwork he stated that they can't do smog on my RV because of it '99. I said, "wait a sec, I called you on Friday and you never asked me what year of my RV or anything else at all, why are you bringing this issue now?" "Sorry, our smog machine has been just repaired and we don't do RVs '99"- this is only an answer I got from them. Nothing more ridiculous I have heard in my life. I had bought a truck form out of state and needed to get it smogged, but the check engine light was on. Brought it to Autocraft for a number of reasons; yelp review, nextdoor review and they are close to home. Outstanding customer service when I dropped it off, communication was perfect and explained everything to me. I knew the code number when dropping it off, and they could have taken me for a few more bucks, but instead they did some research and fixed the problem, and not a "made up problem" Received the truck back and drove it for a day, then brought it back to Autocraft the next day for a smog. I will be a repeat customer for sure, but hope I don't need to be. I highly recommend them for your mechanic needs. read more

I took my 4runner there for a smog fail repair. Great service and reasonably priced.

We had our Ford escape in for an engine light...found it to be an o2 sensor and spark plugs and coil needed to be replaced. The Escape didn't seem to be running smooth and the light came back on in just a couple of weeks. Took the Escape back in to have them fix...they repaired the problem that day with no additional charge to me. You wouldn't get this kind of service any place else. I will take our other cars to them in the future. read more

I was looking to get my 2000 4runner with 61000 miles on it, a service. Had it from new and never had it in for service or anything, except LOF. It is a secondary vehicle with little exposure to Highways. I drove a Work Van for 18 years and 4runner accumulated few miles. We had a really bad experience with these guys. We took our car in thinking it was probably the CV Joint. The guy at the counter asked us if it sounded like a clicking and mouthed it. We said yes it sounds like that. He then said that was probably what it was but sometimes the sound bounces so it could be another wheel and they would check it out. We said great. My wife picks it up and they say that they were really surprised she heard anything and that the part wasn't very worn at all. She thought it was weird but she said OK and left. The next day the sound was still happening just as loud. She took it back. They diagnosed it and said it was the bearing. So my wife asked if we could get our money back from the part (the CV Joint) that didn't need to be replace. No, we could not because we "diagnosed it" and wanted that part changed. The guy was very argumentative and rude to my wife. After threatening to turn him in to the BBB he finally wound up giving a discount on changing the bearing but not the CV joint. We still paid $400 total to have a wheel bearing replaced! We will never go back! read more

My check engine light had been on in my 2004 Ford Expedition for months and I couldn't renew my registration until it passed smog. Being relatively new to the area, I initially took it to the Ford Dealership in Folsom. While they were looking it over, I went online and started checking out their customer reviews and they were terrible!! So I had already decided to take the car elsewhere when they called to tell me that it was going to cost at least $1000 to work on it. I said no thanks and took the car over to Autocraft... It took these guys over a week but they worked their butts off to get my car to pass a smog check. The check engine light wouldn't go off no matter what they did and they'd replaced an O2 sensor thinking that was the problem. After many days in the shop and many hours of monitoring they finally found a wire that had apparently been nicked by my old mechanic when he'd done some work on the transmission the year before (not a big surprise). I was just so glad to finally get that light off so I could get my car registered! They stayed in constant communication with us (I know we bugged the crap out of them the first few days but they were really polite about it) and at one point I could tell that they were more frustrated than we were about the situation, which shows that they really care about their customers and their cars. In the end, I am certain they didn't charge us as much as they could have considering how many hours they really spent on my vehicle. So I think these guys are great and even though they are out of my way, I will continue to take my vehicle to them until the wretched thing finally dies for good. read more

The only reason I have used this place is because I literally work across the street. They are ripoff artists with a smiley face. Took my Acura in for a overheating problem and after doing 500 worth of repairs. they then said it needed a head gasket. Later I learned if they checked the oil and seen water in it they would have known. and included that in the estimate...total incompetence. After a few overcharged repairs the last straw is when it didn't pass smog and needed 1800 worth of work, I took it down the street on Greenback and it passed no problem......These reviews are ether fake or people are not paying attention. read more

I have been a faithful Autocraft customer for 25 years. Recently, Autocraft performed work on the rear axle of my SUV. A month later, the bolts somehow became loose and the axle disengaged and cracked my custom wheel. I had the SUV towed to Autocraft and they discovered the loose bolts, assumed accountability, and repaired the damage without charge. The wheel could not be repaired and was no longer manufactured so Autocraft, without me requesting, volunteered to pay for four new custom wheels. As a women, I feel I often am misled by mechanics. I have taken my truck to mechanics that are closer to me and ask for a oil change and they tell me I have a plethora of things wrong. None of which are true. I have taken my vehicles to Autocraft and have actually asked them to do specific work and have had them tell me on return, we changed the oil but that other item you asked for is not necessary yet. Now that is HONESTY and INTEGRITY. We have had work completed on 4 of our vehicles and have never felt anything other than satisfied with a job well done. read more

The battery in my 2004 Trailblazer was draining overnight so I took it in. Several days and several hundred dollars later I picked it up and the 'technician' said it was a bad battery. As I was getting into the car he said, "...and I couldn't get the seat or driver side window to work." Huh? They worked when I dropped the car off. I went to Les Schwab and bullied them into a new battery. Just recently the battery went dead again so this time I took it to Folsom Buick/GMC. The diagnosis was a jammed seat motor on the driver's side. $139 later it's fixed. Autocraft is good with the hardware but I won't use them for electrical again; just not enough expertise and my money was wasted. They also might want to refrain from telling a customer their car is in worse shape than when it was brought it in. Not good. read more

The staff do a great job of explaining what is happening to a layperson. Often they will bring out the broken part and physically show me how it broke or is worn. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I also like that they have a habit of underpromising and over delivering. I've found many bills less than anticipated and in shorter time frames. They also have done a great job of communicating timelines when I'm waiting for the cars return. Wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Went in for a smog on my vehicle that was transported from Hawaii after my husband got out of the Army. They gave me a discounted rate, which was much lower than the discounted rates in the area. (about half) They were very fast and had me in and out. Their prices on diagnostics and repairs are very reasonable and their service technicians and staff are very knowledgeable.
