I have used TOS on Greenback in Orangevale for over ten years. They always come thru. They are a test only station, but they are a STAR station so if your vehicle is older they can do it. They are fast, they can do appointments or walk ins. Very professional and polite. Two years ago my jeep would not have passed emissions due to something done by a mechanic. They told me what it was, then spoke with the mechanic for me. I took my jeep back to the mechanics, he fixed the problem (wrong part) free of charge, then back to TOS to pass. This year my jeep passed no problem. Yay! read more

Some folks may think the gentleman signing you in may be a little abrupt but when you consider that he is a "One-Man-Show", he was organized! (I.e. The site says it is open M-F 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Went there at 1:15pm for a smog test on Wednesday. The guy was washing his car, & had no customers. Said he would be with me shortly. When he came in to see me, he told me he would have to do a different test on my 1999 Camry, and since he closed at 2:00PM, he couldn't do my car. That was at 1:30pm. I have never been at a smog test station where it took an half hour to run a test on a car. I guess he would rather wash & wax his car than provide customer service. read more

TOS Smog has been testing my cars for the past 5 years, or so. They have always been prompt and courteous, even when I haven't had an appointment. They absolutely honor appointment times, bumping you ahead of others to make your time window work. I've had cars fail smog checks and there was no pressure as to vendor to use in fixing the issue. However, they were very clear and to the point when explaining how many days I had to return for a check before the whole process would have to start from scratch. I highly recommend them. read more

I called and made an appointment. When I showed up, they told me it was a 20 min. wait. I asked for another appointment in which I would not have to wait 20 minutes and was told that they don't guarantee that an appointment guarantees a person not to have to wait 20 minutes. 10 minutes would have been acceptable. However, if you are going to make appointments, then you should take the responsibility to honor the time slot you have appointed. How would this business feel if I showed up 20 minutes late with the expectation that I would get my car in upon arrival? I am sure they would not accommodate me. The weird thing, I told the lady that I would go elsewhere and she actually got a little huffy. WEIRD. Not going back. On a brighter note, I went right down the street and got right in. Thanks to Orangevale Smog at 9200 Greenback Lane, Orangevale, CA 95662. Not only did I get right in, several people showed up (they all wanted to rent U-haul trucks) and the man did not shift me to the back of the line. TOS (Test Only Smog) has been smogging my car for roughly the past decade. It's easy to make an appointment and have your car smogged. I made my appointment for 8am on a Saturday morning, dropped off my keys, walked to Starbucks and got a call saying my car was done before I had finished my coffee. There were two other walk-ins there when I showed up, but because I made an appointment, my car had preference, so I recommed making an appointment at least 3 days in advance in order to save waiting time. I think it was only $60 too, which is about the standard rate I've seen advertised around town. If you're looking for it, the building has purple garage doors and is right next door to the Orangevale Liquor and Little Caesars Pizza, opposite the Walgreen's parking lot. Going here was one of the worst and violating experiences I have ever had. My friend and I drove up to get her car smog tested and one of the employees, named HAMID REZA ASKARI (EO634939), demonstrated unprofessional and inappropriate behavior. As we arrived, HAMID ASKARI approached the drivers side window, where my friend was sitting. He reached in through the car window and placed his hand on my friends shoulder. As we continued through the process and followed HAMID ASKARI into the building, HAMID ASKARI consistently stared at my friend. We then approached the window and HAMID ASKARI continued to stare. After he gathered our information, HAMID ASKARI left to work on our car. My friend then revealed that as she walked out of the car HAMID ASKARI had placed his right hand on her shoulder and slid it down her back toward her butt and grabbed it. Once HAMID ASKARI had completed the smog inspection, he tried to get my friend to come to the window by asking if she was paying. I took out my card and placed it in fron of him and he processed my payment. HAMID ASKARI began making sexual comments toward my friend stating "she's nice, I'd like that." I intervened pushing to fasten the payment process. HAMID ASKARI then commented on my tattoos, grabbed my arm with his right hand and began stroking my arm up and down. I pulled my arm away. HAMID ASKARI asked if I had any more. I replied yes but they are not visible. He then commented "I'd like to see them". I laughed grabbed my card and keys and we both left. The smog equipment was being repaired and one of the machines was down so another car was worked on before mine even though we were there first. I was all fixed to be upset and I think the lady behind the counter sensed that and gave me $10.00 off my test only smog, I really appreciated the discount and the gesture made a huge difference in my feelings about their service. Can people be a little friendlier, sure, but when you are injured as she was and bombarded with a flood of customers, it can be a little tough but she did make an real effort. As I learned that there are "hidden/extra" fees on the lower priced stations, I ended up here based on the fact that they take appointments and they were recommended to me by a long time customer. We have taken our cars here to have smog tests since they opened. Terry and Ed were always great to deal with. Ed ran the place by himself for years from answering phones, to making appts, to doing the actual test. He was great. Called this week made an appt. when we got there, the technician did not know how to visualize a specialty car. Told us to come back at noon when Ed would be there. My husband went back at noon and had to wait until 1pm for service. We will never go back --there are too many smog places to have to go back twice, because they do not have someone trained on visualization of cars. Without a doubt the shadiest TOS in the area. Technician was not helpful and refused to elaborate on the failing code. Claimed he didn't have the right equipment to define the code and I should look it up on the internet. He was combative and confrontational. When speaking to the technician he blew smoke in my face and call me an unsavory name. Lastly, in return for refunding our money we were to not return to his business! There was no attempt to help at all. Not even a recommendation to another test facility. Save your money. read more

They take appointments and are on time in getting your car in for a smog check. Several other places keep you waiting, sometimes, for hours. It was 27 minutes from the time of my appointment until I was on the road for the two cars I had smogged recently. They have all the proper equipment to smog check older cars, while other places I've tried could not service my vehicles. I plan on using this shop for all future checks. read more
