Bad service, again! 1st bad experience with Tailpipes in Orangevale was when we visited them to get our SMOG inspection about a year ago. We asked how many cars were in front of us and the SMOG tech told us there were two. We went across the street to get an ice cream from Dairy Queen and came back within 10 minutes. We waited another 10 minutes and when it was our turn, the SMOG tech chose to get the car that arrived after us and pulled up to do the SMOG inspection. When we asked why the man rudely told us that we left so we lost our place in line. We specifically asked if it was okay to go get ice cream across the street and he said yes but still chose to deliver poor customer service and negative attitude. Our 2nd bad service was a couple of months ago. The SMOG tech was rude and accused us of having a modified engine with after market parts on our engine. The bad service on 2 separate occasions combined with the fact that there are 3 other SMOG shops within 1 mile of Tailpipes are the main reasons why we will absolutely never ever spend our money at Tailpipes again. read more

I needed to have my car smogged this year and I haven't had to smog my vehicles for over 5 years. I knew this smog shop was very close and in the area so I decided to give them a call. The customer service over the phone and in person was very friendly and attentive. As soon as I arrived, it was as easy as providing my registration, handing over the keys, and presto! My car was smogged and I was free to go. The prices are very affordable, and JR was great! He's been at the shop for over 40 years, and tends to operate out of both the orangevale location and the north highlands location. I have used this shop for years and always received prompt service. All goes well until your vehicle doesn't pass. When I brought the vehicle back for a retest the attendant was rude and surly, he also spoke to me in a condescending manner. My auto maintenance/repair shop recommended Tailpipes, said "they took their own vehicles there". I will advise my shop of my experience. The vehicle did pass on the retest, the attendant/ tech did adjust his attitude when he understood that he would be paid. I won't go back. read more

From my old 87 pulsar to my 84 nissan 300zx turbo, Zach and the crew always were there to help with smog and the no pass no pay guarantee. I have ways received fast and prompt customer service. The place has a old school vibe and I always feel I can chat it up with the guys while I'm there. I took the vehicle to an honest shop and they dusted off the CAT which JR at tailpipes did not do. The new shop confirmed that indeed the CAT is in compliance with the laws and appropriate for the vehicle. Had JR at Tailpipes actually inspected it, we would not be in this iteration. I reached out to JR at Tailpipes in an attempt to rectify this matter and bizarrely he refused. I cannot advise folks enough to simply stay away as I have to go to the DMV referee! UPDATE! I will not be using tailpipes on greenback lane for anything. I just called to ask about smog pricing. First off the guy answered the phone rudely. I'll let that go and still be polite but after I was given the price I told him thank you and that I was going to pass the info on to my husband(as he is bringing it in) the rude guy laughed and then hung up on me. New employee failed my motor home for 4 degrees on my timing. Then i had to pay. Even though they claim no pass no pay. 4 degrees is so minute its hard to adjust it. He will fail your vehicle for anything not perfect. Terrible employee with no customer service skills. read more
