Perfect. I went in today, and the staff was professional, quiet, and helpful. They were clearly focused on getting the job done efficiently. They took my car in and completed the smog test in less than 20 minutes, then provided the certification right away. They may be people of few words, but the service was excellent--fast, reliable, and straightforward. The smog check cost less than $70, which I think is a great value considering the speed and quality of service. The facility itself is very basic, but the service more than makes up for it. I was very satisfied and would highly recommend this place. read more

Smog test was completed quickly and we were on our way! I will definitely consider this place for the next smog test.

Bad service, again! 1st bad experience with Tailpipes in Orangevale was when we visited them to get our SMOG inspection about a year ago. We asked how many cars were in front of us and the SMOG tech told us there were two. We went across the street to get an ice cream from Dairy Queen and came back within 10 minutes. We waited another 10 minutes and when it was our turn, the SMOG tech chose to get the car that arrived after us and pulled up to do the SMOG inspection. When we asked why the man rudely told us that we left so we lost our place in line. We specifically asked if it was okay to go get ice cream across the street and he said yes but still chose to deliver poor customer service and negative attitude. Our 2nd bad service was a couple of months ago. The SMOG tech was rude and accused us of having a modified engine with after market parts on our engine. The bad service on 2 separate occasions combined with the fact that there are 3 other SMOG shops within 1 mile of Tailpipes are the main reasons why we will absolutely never ever spend our money at Tailpipes again. read more

Quick and easy smog testing, cheaper than nearby competitors and they take walk-ins. I will come back here next time I need a smog.

Best experience ever! Reasonable price, friendly staff, fast service. I was having a lot of trouble finding any smog test place that would be able to handle my 1997 car. JR told me they do cars even older! They also don't charge if your car doesn't pass the first time. Check them out: https://nopassnopaysmog.com/ read more

Love this place! Quick, pleasant and professional, fairly priced. Feels like community.

This is hands down the best smog company in town. They are professional, very fast and offer no charge if your vehicle does not pass smog.

Great service they got me in and out pass smog, got me in and out in less than 20 minutes

No appointment needed and they were pretty quick. No frills but friendly and very reasonable price. It's bookmarked. Bonus, Dairy Queen is across the street! read more

Quick service! Better seating in the office would be nice but since the testing was fairly quick, it's not a deal breaker.

I have been going to Tailpipes for about 15 years and 6 different cars/trucks. They are a 5 star operation.

Quality service and customer interaction as well as trustworthy enough to uphold the no pass no pay thing which I use because I don't trust the other places that failed me over BS in the past and took my money read more

I got in and out fast- with my passed DMV certificate-- wow !! Thank you Great work...thank you so much read more

Just moved here and got the run around at a few places. This place rocks, knocked it out in a few minutes and we were on our way. Very professional and fair prices. read more

No frills star smog. In and out in 20 minutes with my BMW - $68!!! This is a no pass no pay - Highly Recommend.

Great service! In and out in no time even for a walk in with no appointment on a Monday. Thanks.

Fast. Efficient. Friendly. Cheap. And I passed! What more could I want? I would definitely recommend.

The service was friendly and amazing! I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Can't recommend this place more!!!

August 2024: the old beast passed again! Thanks Tailpipes! Will return again for service.

I actually had to go see them twice and they were on it both times. Their prices was fair and their service was great.

Excellent service and a friendly attitude by the gentleman working today. He completed the smog check quickly and the price was very reasonable without the need for a coupon or anything. I will be recommending this smog shop and coming back whenever I need to next. read more

I needed to have my car smogged this year and I haven't had to smog my vehicles for over 5 years. I knew this smog shop was very close and in the area so I decided to give them a call. The customer service over the phone and in person was very friendly and attentive. As soon as I arrived, it was as easy as providing my registration, handing over the keys, and presto! My car was smogged and I was free to go. The prices are very affordable, and JR was great! He's been at the shop for over 40 years, and tends to operate out of both the orangevale location and the north highlands location. Sometimes the phone lines direct you to either shop, so feel free to ask for the location when speaking. I now know a good and reliable automotive business within my local area whom I can rely on and trust. Thanks again JR! read more

I have used this shop for years and always received prompt service. All goes well until your vehicle doesn't pass. When I brought the vehicle back for a retest the attendant was rude and surly, he also spoke to me in a condescending manner. My auto maintenance/repair shop recommended Tailpipes, said "they took their own vehicles there". I will advise my shop of my experience. The vehicle did pass on the retest, the attendant/ tech did adjust his attitude when he understood that he would be paid. I won't go back. read more

I have been taking my old nissans to this place for 6 plus years now. From my old 87 pulsar to my 84 nissan 300zx turbo, Zach and the crew always were there to help with smog and the no pass no pay guarantee. I have ways received fast and prompt customer service. The place has a old school vibe and I always feel I can chat it up with the guys while I'm there. Prices are always fair and with more and more places refusing to work on or smog older cars this place is a true diamond in the rough for us retro car folks who need a no hassle smog. read more

Great experience there. Very fast and friendly. JR is very professional and was done in just a few minutes it seemed. I will be going back again and I recommend them. read more

Super quick, super easy, gentlemen was very friendly. Report was clear and simple to follow. Will definitely go back.

Could be faster. During the pandemic they never wore masks. Guy working there always looks mad and could have a smile on his face when people come to your business. Of course some people have good days and bad days. read more

I took the vehicle to an honest shop and they dusted off the CAT which JR at tailpipes did not do. The new shop confirmed that indeed the CAT is in compliance with the laws and appropriate for the vehicle. Had JR at Tailpipes actually inspected it, we would not be in this iteration. I reached out to JR at Tailpipes in an attempt to rectify this matter and bizarrely he refused. I cannot advise folks enough to simply stay away as I have to go to the DMV referee! UPDATE! Vehicle got inspected at another place and passed with flying colors. The owner at the other placed questioned JR's integrity and workmanship! STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY! read more

Great experience at this smog shop. It is always busy and that's for a reason. The two guys are great and super fast. I highly recommend them. read more

Great place, great customer service. If you don't pass you don't pay. No appointment needed. In and out and they Handel sending everything out to DMV. read more

My dad recommended this place and it's great. So fast, friendly, no BS. Will be taking my cars here from now on.

Needed to get two cars smog checked. Both times came in without an appointment and was smogged and out in 15 minutes. Barebones operation but friendly. You need a smog check? I recommend Tailpipes of Orangevale. read more

JR is AWESOME. Good guy and great business. I took my Jeep to another company, and it was a nightmare. Tail Pipes Smog is AMAZING. My first time here, and I will be coming from now on and referring others. I had a great experience. No pass, no pay really takes the worry out of smogging your car. The customer service JR gave was top notch.... friendly and honest! Thank you! read more

I will not be using tailpipes on greenback lane for anything. I just called to ask about smog pricing. First off the guy answered the phone rudely. I'll let that go and still be polite but after I was given the price I told him thank you and that I was going to pass the info on to my husband(as he is bringing it in) the rude guy laughed and then hung up on me. Completely uncalled for. Will not be using this company ever. read more

Super fast service. In and out within 20 mins and there was a car ahead of me. Convenient location. $68 for a small car, they sent the paperwork to DMV and I was done. read more

Very professional and on top of their game when it comes to smog checking I've been using this facility for years to smog all my vehicles and have never had any problems with the service and or the employees that work there. Open seven days a week and never a long wait. read more

Super fast service- I was in and out in 5 minutes. I came in the 4 o clock hour on a monday. They were quick and efficient and zack had great customer service . I walked away paying $68 which is seemingly fair considering they sent in the DMV paperwork that day and I was able to get my tags the same day before the 5 pm. read more

New employee failed my motor home for 4 degrees on my timing. Then i had to pay. Even though they claim no pass no pay. 4 degrees is so minute its hard to adjust it. He will fail your vehicle for anything not perfect. Terrible employee with no customer service skills. read more
