Star Smog - STAR Smog does Diesel too! - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Orangevale, California

Star Smog is a super convenient place for a quick smog check. They're open every day and don't require an appointment, which makes it really easy to just show up when you need service. If you get there right when they open, you'll likely be first in line, which makes the whole process even faster. I was honestly shocked at how quick everything went -- in and out with no hassle. The owner was very nice and professional, which made the experience even better. Overall, it's efficient, friendly, and highly recommended if you want a fast smog check without the wait. read more

Quick, easy, didn't have a long wait. When I need a smog, I don't have to think twice.

Quick professional service. Highly recommend. We will definitely go back again next time.

This has been our preferred smog shop for years. It is always efficient, fast, and great pricing.

Very quick and efficient. Would visit again, process was very smooth. Was able to get in and out in less than 5 minutes.

Quick smog checks! Decent price. One of my cars didn't pass the first time and Masoud the owner asked if we had changed the battery, which we had! He suggested we drive it on the freeway which I did. This was Friday took it back on Monday and the car passed today. It is also a star station smog checks. I will be going back there! read more

Fast, easy, priced fairly, and the owner was pleasant. The shop itself was a work of art, with equipment interspersed with various hobby projects, which made my short time there pass even more quickly. read more

Super friendly, super fast, super easy.. What more could you ask for? Came in with no appointment and was out in 20 minutes. Will be back.

I've going here for years with the 3 cars we own for state mandated SMOG checks. Having worked in the auto repair business, there's lots of things that can go wrong. I have never had a problem at Star Smog. The owner is the only person that you deal with and he is an extremely nice person. And he's amazingly quick, with a thorough routine. Highly recommended and worth the price. read more

I brought my car to Star Smog a couple of years ago and was blown away by both the place and the owner. I love the art and creations there that the owner build and created so there is a lot to look at and take in. The service itself was exemplary and his work was honest and fair. On top of all of that is pricing is also fair and reasonable for smog. I loved the experience so much that I brought both of our cars back to him this year. read more

Such quick and excellent service. And the proprietor makes it so cozy! I even volunteered to take the car in because it's a pleasant experience! read more

WARNING, WARNING. NO REPAIR WAS NEEDED NOR PERFORMED BY THE MECHANIC!!! The car just passed at the next reputable smog station we went to. IF a repair had been necessary and performed we fully intended on returning to STAR but since NO REPAIRS WERE MADE it seemed like we had been scammed. Do not go here! On October 12, 2022 we took our 1986 Toyota 4runner to this 'Star" station. The Toyota has NEVER failed a smog in over 30 years so we were shocked when STAR SMOG said we failed the 'visual' portion of the test and that we needed a smoke test. So off we went to a mechanic to spend another $100. Mechanic performed a smoke test and checked evap canister stating sorry there is nothing in need of repair and suggested maybe going to a different Smog shop so we did even though it would cost more than the retrat at STAR SMOG. So off we went to ANOTHER Smog shop to spend ANOTHER $100 PLUS in hopes that that shop was more honest than STAR Per usual 4RUNNER passed with flying colors. So...this RIPOFF just wanted to charge us for a RETEST "for half-price" on return. NOT A CHANCE WILL WE RETURN HERE EVER! Oh and did I mention "STAR" also could not place our vehicle on his machine properly? Husband had to yell "hey, hey stop!" to let him know the back tire was NOT on machine. See all

I had a good experience here last year- service was quick and I appreciated that the proprietor was masked and keeping the waiting room door open for ventilation. I'm not sure what's happened since then but my experience was different this time. It was busier and there wasn't really a clear way to queue (it would be beneficial to have a second person keeping track of that and handing out paperwork). Despite the existence of the highly-transmissible omicron variant and the fact that there were several patrons around, the proprietor was not masked. Literally all of the customers were masked. Even a small child on the bench at least had one with her. But not him, not even when getting inside the vehicles. When it comes to the actual smog, I've still got a bone to pick. The repair light was on and, in my admitted ignorance and rush to get the smog done, I didn't have it looked into before bringing it in. The proprietor got in the car, hooked up the equipment, and proceeded with the test. When it was done, he ushered us inside and highlighted the misfire issues and told us we'd need to take it to a mechanic and then come back. Surely he knew that was the likely outcome when he saw the engine light in the car, but he got his $60. That was within his power to do, but I find it incredibly dishonest. He charges half the price for a retest (I've been to establishments that retest for free) so he probably saw it as $90 guaranteed. It's unfortunate how different my second visit here was. I went out of my way to return based on my first experience. Clearly I will not be back and I don't recommend it. read more

Very good service. They smogged my car on Memorial Day when they were just there to clean the shop. It really helped out because I was selling the car that day. Highly recommended! read more

Please beware ! My car was not ready for a smog and he said he would not charge me to drive the car and come back. I came back within 2 hours and it was ready to smog but was made to pay again after being told there would be no additional charge . He did not honor his word. He wouldn't even make eye contact with me or discuss anything! His word means nothing . I feel because I'm a woman he took advantage of me. read more

Excellent service and price comparable. In and out literally in 20 minutes (granted I was first in line at 8 AM). Highly recommended.

I was a little concerned about getting our car smogged during this pandemic mess. I've been very diligent about social distancing and not going indoors to businesses if at all possible. I was thrilled that the entire smog check transaction could be handled outdoors. The gentleman who runs Star Smog stepped out front to greet me, he put on a mask and gloves, maintained distance, and was careful to wipe down my key and the parts of the car he touched with a disinfecting wipe once the smog check was complete. Definitely recommend! read more
