We received a mailer from them for a "Triple Play" tuneup service, 3 system tuneups for $99 (AC, water heater, furnace). Seemed like a good deal, so set up an appointment. Keep in mind we were not having ANY problems with our water heater before Folkes came. Vinny came and was very nice. We went to look at the water heater first and he said there was a small leak around the pressure relief valve and it would need to be replaced. He checked the AC and everything was okay there, so then he worked on replacing the valve on the water heater. After he was done, he said the old valve had not been properly threaded. I paid the bill and he left. We really didn't use much hot water the rest of the day, so didn't notice any problems. Next morning we got up, showered, dressed and headed out for the day. When we got back, there was a burning plastic smell in the house when we opened the door. We searched the entire house to figure out what it was, but saw nothing. When we checked the breaker box, the breaker for the hot water heater had tripped. Turned it back on, but it buzzed and tripped again within a few seconds. We turned it off and called Folkes. No one called back the rest of the day, so we called again the next morning. Dustin called us back and asked if it was okay if someone didn't come until after 2:00. We said okay. 2:00 came and went. At 3:00 we left another message for Dustin just asking for an ETA. By 4:00 we still had heard nothing, called and left another message for Dustin. Finally we called the main # for Folkes again and they said they would page Dustin. Then we got a call from Kurt, another service tech. He was already on a service call and said he would call us when he was on the way. He arrived around 6:30. Kurt was also very nice. He opened the side panels on the water heater and found the flaps of insulation covering the openings were wet and in the lower panel found that the plastic covering the thermostat was partly melted and the thermostat shorted out. He replaced the thermostat, said we should leave the panels off so the flaps of insulation could dry out. Turned the power on and it seemed to work. We paid this bill. FYI - this is the short version of our experience with Folkes. That night we checked the water heater and found that water was leaking out of the new pressure relief valve Folkes has installed. We turned the power off to the heater and cleaned up the mess. The next morning we called Folkes again to let them know that their repairs had not fixed the leak they found and in fact, had made it worse. There was a lot of water on the floor by the morning, even though we turned the power off to the water heater, so at this point we turned the water to the house off as well. We got a call back from Kurt, even though we left a message for Dustin, the owner, who apparently did not want to call us back. We explained the situation and asked what they would do for us at this point. He said he would speak to the boss and call us back. When he called back he said that we would need a new water heater. He said they didn't make our size anymore, so we'd have to pick a different size...we said okay. He said they didn't have any in stock, so it would be a week before they could install a new one...we said okay, although we were not happy at the thought of having no water for a week. He said that the boss said he wouldn't do anything about the money we had paid them so far, even though they warrant their work for 30 days. This did not make us happy. He also said we would have to pay them up front, and in full for the new water heater plus the labor, even though the water heater was only 5 years into a 10 year warranty. Kurt said that they would work on getting us money back on the warranty after the fact. At this point, we were done with Folkes. We told Kurt we would be calling another company to sort out the water heater and that we would be disputing the charges to our credit card for their failed services. We called another company who covered the replacement water heater under the warranty and only charged labor to install it, and who came the same day to install the new water heater. We will likely never use Folkes again. read more

i had a good experience with Folkes in the past when my water heater broke and had them installed a new one. I even wrote a positive review on Yelp and bought their maintenance plan. After 2 years my water heater broke again (Bradford White brand) and my basement was flooded. Set up an appointment with Folkes for a Friday morning install of a different water heater brand that i purchased at Home Depot with Folkes picking it up for an additional $100. Upon picking up by a Folkes technician he found out that the water heater i bought is not the right one. A Home Depot in NJ carries the type of water heater that I need and I was planning ton picking it up myself. So my appointment was cancelled and i called and spoke to Crystal to reschedule an install on Saturday. Crystal was not very helpful at all and has that dont-care attitude. She insisted that Home Depot does not carry the type of water heater I need. told her that a Home Depot in NJ sells the one I need and I would pick it up myself if she can schedule me for a Saturday install. She told me that they do not work on Saturdays BUT they already have scheduled appointments this Saturday which does not make sense. Well as a matter of fact the last water heater I had was installed on a Saturday. She did not even offer an available day for an appointment. If this is the kind of person that handles calls for a business they will be losing customers and referrals from satisfied customers. Dustin the owner was very helpful in the past but they would not let you talk to him if you request to speak to him directly. Linda is also very helpful if you are able to speak to her. I am not sure if i want to do business with this company again. In fact I am now looking for a different plumber that can help me out replacing my leaking water heater. read more

It is pretty early to give details on their workmanship (48hrs). However, we had Doreen as the sales rep and Diego as the tech (and a few other guys along with an electrician) felt they both were honest and helpful. I had a Heil (name of the unit) full central air installation. What I will say is the price was the best (Nothing worth paying for is ever exciting...but it is a luxury) in the area. Nice hometown feel. House rules of shoes off/covered, doors closed and no smoking in the house were all taken seriously. Both the inside and outside units are nice and quiet. New to the luxury so we had a lot of questions and took our time without being pressured. Checked out a few other big names but "the big names" said that their price hikes were different "because they had more of an overhead" as if that was my fault. Office staff were available when needed. I did recommend "Folkes" to a close friend who was able to see 1st hand how well they worked to get the job done. Only time will tell.. I will check back when I have my first year's tune-up. Important: They also go by inspection regulations so make sure that they tell you if your house is ready to pass inspection before you go through waiting for the appointment and then failing inspection. I fortunately, just bought my home and it had long met the basic inspection requirements. read more

Without a doubt, Folkes is the best company in the East Fishkill area. I base that opinion primarily on the excellent service I received and continue to receive from one of their plumbing employees, Dan Price. Dan is not only a master plumber but also knows how to find solutions and make recommendations where others have failed. For that reason my architect and I have called him for advice in our planning stages for a major expansion and renovation for our house. He always find time to talk to us a nd listen to our concerns about our plans. He also is very knowledgeable about the best equipment needed for a particular purpose. He and the Folkes people generally are very honest about what is best, even when in some cases it is not the mainstream brands that most other plumbers or HVAC installers use. All of the Folkes people live up to these standards. We have used them, and will continue to use them, for our heating and cooling systems as well. We have never been disappointed in their service and the equipment they've installed. You won't do better by calling another company. read more

I was unable to reset my furnace. I looked online and chose Folkes Heating for their reviews. I wasn't disappointed. Wanda, who answered my call, was friendly and efficient. Danny and his partner showed up within a couple of hours and solved my problem, then Danny showed me how to reset the furnace if the problem happened again. They couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. The only thing I question is the diagnostic fee. In my case I understand since I didn't have work done, it was just a reset, but on another review I saw there was a diagnostic fee charged even after the customer was electing to have the work done. I have found with other services, the diagnostic fee is waved if you are paying for the repairs and parts. I wouldn't have been happy if I paid for service and the diagnostic fee was an additional charge. I'm giving it 5 stars though since this didn't affect me (today) and I was happy with the tech. read more

On10/20/2020 Folkes came over and I used a coupon for a "gas tune up". After being in my appox 8x8 furnace room the service technician announced that there was 400+ PPM of CO. They shut off the gas valve and said a sales person would be over soon. The salesperson came over and I agreed to purchase $12777.24 worth of new modern equipment. I gave him my debit card # but it later failed (I think due to the high amount). I started thinking about it and how could it be so high so fast. So I bought 2 CO monitors. One with an audio warning a 1 with a button to show peak CO. Both of these are in the 8x8 furnace room. My furnace has been on for over a month and the peak amount of CO is zero. I now have a case against them in small claims court, How a business can scam people when there is a pandemic, evictions, foreclosures, and some people can't feed their kids, I just don't know! Outstanding responsiveness, once again! Our central A/C crashed on a 91 degree day. We contacted Folkes @ 5:30pm and Dustin was eager to see us up and running again. The service rep, Frank arrived at our house in a little over an hour and gave the A/C a thorough check out. Frank exhausted every possibility for the lack of cool air and then explained, in plain terms, what was happening. Unfortunately, our condenser unit passed away and we need a new one. Frank felt bad that he exhausted every possibility for the failure so we accepted the inevitable hurt of a new condenser. He was on the phone with the office immediately and got us a great price for a new condensor that will be installed today. Yes, paying for a brand new condenser hurts, but the great service takes the edge off of the pain a bit. We'll be sticking with Folkes for heating and cooling for a while! read more

Frank from Folkes is excellent. Our new Nevian boiler (a real noise-maker; avoid it if you value silence in your home) crashed six times within two months. All Folkes employees have been courteous and willing to help. However, Frank was the one who came back day after day to set this boiler straight. He diagnosed the problem and tested his solutions. Through his perseverance, he found the problem none of his predecessors did, at one point bleeding all the baseboards in the house--a laborious task. Now, we have heat. He's really knows his stuff when it comes to heating a house, and also showed ways to reduce the egregious racket this boiler makes (really, don't buy a Nevian if you like quiet). But back to Frank. If you want a courteous man with a sympathetic ear who also is very handy with a boiler and other mechanical matters, ask for Frank. read more

I had just purchased my place on OCT 23 and moved in Oct. 25, when I noticed my heating system sounded like a rocket launching at NASA. I immediately thought of the seller and how they never heard this!!! I got on the phone with a friend to get the name of a heating company. They had used FOLKES, and were very happy with the service and price. I woke this morning to frost on my windows .Apparently, before I could even call FOLKES, I no longer had heat from my launching unit called my heating system. Called Folke's for help with AC for my new home in Beacon. Dorene came and reviewed the house configuration, and made a recommendation for a Mitsubishi Ductless Split AC system, explaining all of the reasons for that system. She walked me through their proposal and ideas for placing two blower units inside the house. She was super thorough and made everything very understandable. When it came to installation, Diego ran the job, and he's a total pro. Insisted on taking his shoes off before stepping into the house (they eventually put tarps down everywhere), he and his colleague worked non-stop on installation despite a non-stop downpour the entire day. They did a great job and the system works perfectly...and they left zero mess. Would highly recommend these folks at Folke's. read more

The Mitsubishi Ductless unit we had purchased 22 months ago stopped working on Thursday afternoon. I called Folkes Friday morning & by 1:30 that afternoon it was working like new. Ken F and his partner were professional and polite. They were great, and it took minutes, not hours or days! I was expecting a service fee for the visit at the very least. But when I tried to give Ken a $40 off coupon he stated that I could not use it for this visit...as there was no charge! From the office staff that coordinated the repair, to the sales person (who helped guide us through the selection process), the team that performed the original install, and most recently Ken and his partner, it has always been a pleasure. First off, we were contacted promptly informing us of their running ahead of schedule, which allowed for an earlier service time than was originally scheduled, and that was awesome! Very responsive. I called Folkes to schedule the annual maintenance of my two heating and cooling systems and Sean M. came to my house on-time and spent three hours going over everything. He discovered a bad capacitor in the 20-yr. old furnace and recommended replacing it. He found that one of my condensers was three pounds low on refrigerant so he recommended adding that amount so that it wouldn't freeze up on me. He was friendly, professional and efficient. James just completed a furnace tune up. He was friendly and professional. Though our service appointment ended up taking place later than expected, James seemed knowledgeable and hardworking. I know it must be a busy time of year and I cannot fault him for the delay since he was clearly doing his best to take care of us.
