My husband and I were in Napa last weekend celebrating 10 years together and made the spontaneous decision to check out Foley Johnson Winery. Thanks to a stellar recommendation from their neighbors at Sequoia Grove after our tasting there, we headed Foley Johnson's way. Walking up to the winery was so lovely, especially with the fall foliage all around. They grow a lot (if not most) of their grapes on property, which I thought was pretty cool. Every wine we tried was very good! The reds were my fav! The service here is one to mention. They took us as a walk in and still treated us with the same care as someone who made reservations months ago. Our host, Tyson, was super cool to talk to, especially with his extensive knowledge of wine and the Napa Valley region. The customer service he provided to us and other guests around us was superb. He did a great job at balancing all of us without making people feel shorted of time or info on the wines. read more

Aside from the subpar wine, I strongly advise avoiding this winery altogether. What started as a pleasant afternoon turned into a months-long nightmare. During my visit, I was encouraged by the tasting room manager, Kevin, to join their wine club. He assured me that canceling would be simple if needed. Shortly after receiving my first shipment, I was laid off and immediately contacted Foley Johnson to cancel my membership. I was told it had been taken care of. Yet, months later, I was charged nearly $300. I called again, was told the membership was canceled and my card information deleted. The charge was eventually reversed. I assumed the issue was resolved, until three months later when I was charged again. This time, no one responded to my calls or emails. When I finally reached someone at the tasting room, she dismissively claimed she couldn't help and refused to provide contact information for anyone who could. Eventually, Kevin got on the line. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, he rudely commented on my opinion of the wine--completely irrelevant given the circumstances--and informed me the wine had already shipped. I made it clear I would not accept it and that this issue should have never occurred had my cancellation been processed properly. He assured me someone from the membership team would follow up within two business days. It's now been over two weeks, and I've heard nothing. I've had to dispute the charge with my credit card company and block this vendor entirely. Beware of joining this wine club--you may end up dealing with the same unprofessionalism and lack of accountability. I'll be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau this week. Foley Johnson: clean up your customer service and stop misleading people. read more

I have had Foley Johnson wines before and although I don't particularly like nor dislike them, I thought it would be really cool to get a tasting at this place. I don't know how to feel about it. It wasn't the greatest tasting we had in Napa. We were the only people in because of some fires that were happening in Sonoma. They called ahead of time to make sure we were showing up. We had the tasting in our own private room and we had some Cheese to pair with the wine. The cheeses were amazing, the wines not so much, and the person conducting our tasting keep walking away, as if we were not the only people in there. Didn't even bother to stay with us the majority of the time. We bought a bottle of their Petit Verdot which was very good, but it turned out that it was leaking, so we had to come back the next day to exchange it. They did not give us a problem at least. Do I recommend it? probably not. There was nothing remarkable about this winery as far as the building itself or the grounds. Its just a place to visit off a busy road. read more

My girlfriend Lisa made reservations at this Luxury Cabernet Tasting and I didn't realize I was in for quite a treat :) From start to finish, Lisa and I were pampered with exquisite customer service! We were warmly greeted by Aaron in the reception area, where he poured us a glass of rose to start. He escorted us to our table and from there, the fun began. We'd like to thank Joe A. for a wonderful and educational experience. With each of the pours, we learned about the the region, the grape, the process, and differentiating flavors. Of special note, Joe explained the characteristics as the cabernet flowed across the tongue ;) In addition to the rose, the exquisite Cabernets, and descriptions, Joe also provided a tasting of an estate bottle which was not listed. Before Lisa and I left, Joe said that someone called in a favor. Special shout out to VP Alan C. for the bonus gift before leaving! I love love love the fitted jacket :) Thank you so much for this memorable experience. This sure makes leaving Cali difficult. We were chauffeured to this winery after having private tastings and tours at the other properties. We sat down with Peter who gave us samples and introduced us to the wine making process. My second visit to Foley Johnson. To be upfront I am a Foley member at the tasting room in Santa Barbara and love the generous benefits of being a Foley member. Last visit I tasted from the FJ menu. This time from Kuleto. Both amazing wineries and very different. Both visits I walked away with bottles of Cab. This time it was a 2013 that had been lost in storage for a few years. It was reasonable. As Skyler who was serving us said. Just consider it $10 a year for aging it and the wine in the bottle is free. Made sense to me. I loved that we were able to taste Kuleto (which burnt down in the fires unfortunately) and hop one table over to Foley for back to back wine tastings in the same outdoor patio. Super convenient! Wine was 3.5/5. Not the best I've had, especially for the price, but friendly service and ultra dog friendly. I thought it was odd that our lady spilled wine numerous times while pouring wine, and poured every glass differently lol. There was wine on my phone, our table, our menu. On the upside I loved that casual, non pretentious vibe. All in all the Syrah was our favorite. With wine membership and case discount, it was about 20% off or more. I'm looking for a winery that has unique flavors that stand out- boldness and uniqueness. It took all of two minutes for me to be turned off to Foley Johnson. Two minutes in which I took in the atmosphere of the winery tasting room and the attitude of the person pouring my wine. Neither were for me. Although it's possible to sit on the patio and enjoy a glass of wine, my tasting occurred inside, in an atmosphere that's a cross between tasting bar and gift shop featuring Foley Johnson-branded merch. The tasting room is neither spacious nor intimate or particularly charming. It looks as if designed by committee, to be non-offensive. If not for the vineyard location, it'd be easy to imagine it as a tasting room in downtown Healdsburg. The person handling my tasting exhibited a questionable hospitality from the get-go and I've no doubt it colored my impression of all aspects of the place. I was first told that the tasting pass I intended to use "cannot generally be used on weekends" (not true, as I've done so up and down the Valley for the past 5 months) then told that I'd be allowed to use it that day. During the course of the tasting the conversation ran not so much to the wines but rather to the app they have, which allows club members to accumulate points (because who doesn't like to feel like they're at Safeway?) and told often about the owner's wealth and intention to purchase more wineries than he already owns. A brochure was splayed out, showing all the wineries owned by Foley and a mental note was made: zero desire to go to anyplace on that list. Guests enjoying their tasting on the outside were, if not disparaged, a bit maligned by the person pouring their wines and the combination of all of these things? Not good. I tasted and ran. The Napa Valley is filled with wineries featuring exceptional hospitality in truly gorgeous settings (Krug and Trefethen come to mind). Wasting time at Foley Johnson is just that. They can do better and so can you. read more

Foley Johnson was the first stop of three on a wine tour this last weekend. Tyson was fantastic and the wines are amazing. I happened to mention that we were missing one in our group who had to miss her own birthday celebration because she was ill. A stop on our Rutherford passport weekend that didn't look like much but was quite enjoyable. Highlights: - Located in a dark colored barn from the 1920s - On the main road but very small and few staff members - Merlot: I'm not a merlot-er but this award winning wine was fantastic. Smooth and fruity and not at all gritty. - Relatively new: open 9 years - Serene soft music in background: very calming, almost spa-like quiet experience. But with wine in a bar. Yeah I know, sounds weird but it's the vibe I got and liked a lot compared to some other crowded spots. - Passport specials: had some of the best cheeses I've had (piave, old amsterdam, old quebec cheddar) to pair with a set of merlots we tried in the back room - Bathroom walls: so very cool covered in corks! Lowlights (my flip side to highlights): - Appointment only so if you want to come on a normal day, you'll have to call ahead. I'll put this on my to stop at list for another Napa trip. read more

Came here because we are members at Lincourt which is part of the family of wineries under Foley Wines. My two star review is based solely on our experience there with different staff members and not the wine. The wine was good and we took a few bottles home but our tasting experience was a bit awkward. Ericka started off our tasting on the patio outside. We got a bit chilly outside so we decided to move our group of 5 inside to do a tasting at the bar. We were one of the only groups there so there was plenty of room for us at the bar. On about our second pour the tasting room manager and Master Som came out and took over our tasting. It started off fine and he taught us quite a bit but he definitely can't read body language and didn't exactly know when to stop talking. He was a bit degrading and tarnished our experience. If I could give this 0 stars, I would. Terrible service with a 21 year old who barely knew anything and gave the smallest pours of the weekend. Little information about the winery and the wines. He told us he needed to move quickly because "labor laws required him to go on break" which he informed us was driving up the street. Just a awful. We really felt like we wasted $55 for small pours and sub par wine. I would not recommend this place at all. Our host was on his phone in the corner in between pours. When we informed the hostess of our subpar experience, they said "I'm sorry" and continued to charge us for the poor experience.
