Homemade spaghetti with butter, black truffle, 64 degree egg yolk, and Parmesan
Alexis B.

I had dinner at Foiegwa a few weeks ago when I was on a solo trip to Montreal, and my meal there was a highlight of my trip. The restaurant is gorgeous, and the service was outstanding (I sat at bar, which I love to do for a solo dinner). But the food is what really blew my mind. I ordered from the tasting menu ($49 a person unless you choose an upgrade; I chose a $7 upgrade for my first course). I selected: the foie gras au torchon with spiced onion and red wine jam; the homemade spaghetti with butter and black truffle, 64 degree egg yolk, and Parmesan; and the cereal milk panna cotta with berry jam and banana granola. Every dish was outstanding. Outstanding. I could barely stand by the end of the meal (I felt like I ate enough for 2), but it was worth it. I had some great wine with the meal also! Pretty close to a perfect meal. One of the best I've had this year. I would happily return to Montreal next month and repeat this meal. Just great.

Beef tartare served with crisps

A nice spot which offers great value for your meal. So many places here start at $30+ for their mains but there they start at $20 which my pocketbook definitely appreciates. I got the beef tartare (~18$) and the gnocchi (31$) and to me the beef tartare was really the standout. You get a generous portion of meat and fortunately you can get refills of crisps at no extra charge! This being my first experience with tartare I didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised to say the least! The meat did not have any game-y taste or strong beef flavor. Really it just served as a nice vehicle for the sauce and egg. It was not that different from poke or sashimi in my opinion besides the obvious requirement of needing to chew more because of the different texture, but otherwise equally great. The gnocchi had a nice broiled top which punches with flavor and the mushrooms soaked up the sauce nicely. It was a very warm and cozy atmosphere here and gave the place an intimate feel.

Delightful restaurant! Overall: 4.5/5 Food: 4.5/5 Truffle Pasta - 4.5/5 - I loved the flavours of the pasta and the egg was an awesome touch. Flavourful but not too strong or oily, was just right! Braised Beef - 4.5/5 - one of the softest beets I've ever eaten! It was so tasty and tender and both my friend and I really enjoyed it. Atmosphere - 5/5 loved the quaint look, the restaurant had so much character... wasn't just a typical restaurant. Service: 5/5 - everyone was friendly and helpful!

So my favorite thing here is definitely the cheeseburger. Formerly called the Foie gras burger, they no longer serve Foie gras anymore, they said it was torture to animals which I thought was interesting because they sort of named their restaurant after it . I originally came for this burger and expected it to have the foie gras on it, but this burger was actually incredibly delicious even without it! 5 star item for sure! My second favorite item was the escargot . It was served in shells as is the traditional way, and I loved the garlic butter and crunchy topping forgot what that was, but flavors and textures were definitely popping. Definitely a solid 4.5 star maybe even 5 star escargot. We also had the chicken liver mouse. We both liked it. This was my first time eating it where everything was sort of combined together like that. I've normally spread it on bread and added jelly etc to the bread one by one. But nonetheless it was pretty good. Definitely worth 4 stars! We got a side of the bechamel fries. This was super Earthy notes, but good. 3.5 or 4 star for sure. We enjoyed it, and may or may not try it again next time, but it was nothing to write home about. What also stood out about this place was the service. I didn't even have to complain about anything, they noticed that I didn't like the truffle pasta I ordered so they removed it and gave me a new dish! Great customer service!! I feel like the customer service definitely pushed them from 4 to 5 stars on my review.

I had the chance to try Foiegwa pancakes however they didn't meet my expectations. The customer dining next to me said, similarly, that his pancakes were under cooked. I love the ambiance and look of the restaurant but certain areas of the restaurant were dusty. Also, the walls were overdue for fresh paint. I believe improvement is needed to ensure a 5 star dining experience. The staff were pleasant and ensured exceptional customer service.

Lobster eggs Benedict ($45)
Carmen G.

Came here for brunch on a long weekend before the rush! Wait was about 20 minutes (which is great!). The food here is good - above average from your regular brunch spots. Got upsold by our waitress on getting a lobster eggs benedict. It sounded delicious and a must get - however it was our fault that we did not ask for the price of this and just ordered it. It was definitely on the pricey side for this lobster eggs benedict, coming out to being $45 for the dish which was a surprise (and not) for us when the bill came. But again - that's on us haha! Pancakes and home fries were also delicious.

The ambiance inside is so charming and cool

My wife and I had the privilege to dine at Foiegwa and now we cannot stop talking about how amazing it was! Need food was beyond spectacular! The service was top-notch! The ambience was the perfect blend of charming, cozy and hip. The food I gave off five stars while the vibe in the restaurant was more casual. This provided for a very relaxed experience experience while enjoying some of the most incredible French cuisine Montreal has to offer.

Chicken and waffles - so good!
Dilys C.

Better than the average brunch place. - Chicken waffles was amazing, chicken was crispy and savoury that paired well with the soft fluffy waffles. - Smoked salmon eggs Benedict was average - Spaghetti was amazing, heavy for brunch but something you have to try! - we ordered the Pancakes to share, they were amazing! Heavy, but done so well. - friend ordered the cassolette with duck confit, said it was average, nothing special. Could skip and get something else instead. The place is on the cozy side, prepare for a wait if you come during peak hours. Definitely a spot to try in Montreal!

While the restaurant is highly celebrated and located within a Michelin-recognized hotel building, it does not hold a Michelin star of its own. But it is extremely classy. We decided to do lunch instead of dinner and it was a little more our speed, but if very, very attentive waitstaff is not your thing and $200 for lunch I'd skip this spot. We went because it had reviews for amazing beef Wellington and my husband hadn't had any in decades. And we were on vacation so let's go! The food was beautifully plated and service was impeccable inside of an amazingly decorated dining room that looked like a library in a mansion. The meals themselves weren't obscenely expensive but add a glass a wine, bread (it was not included) and coffee and it put us close to $200. But it was a great experience and I had never had beef Wellington - it was melt in your mouth good. Might go again next time we come up from CT.

This is inside a hotel and the lobby/bathrooms are very nice. Would recommend getting a reservation since there are limited tables and it was busy/full even on a Thursday evening. Came here on our first night in Montreal with 2 other girl friends. To start we all got cocktails and I had gotten the Right Word which has gin Tanqueray, liqueur St-Germain, Lillet, lime. It was a nice cocktail but nothing that special. I was a little disappointed that a fancy place like this did not have any unique cocktails. Most things on there were just basic cocktails you can find just with a different name. For our meal, my friend and I decided to get the beef Wellington and halibut and share as we both wanted the beef but also something lighter vs eating that much beef. Both dishes were very delicious but I didn't think they were amazing for the price you pay. Portions are on the smaller side too. To start, we had also ordered the focaccia bread. It comes out with a mound of butter with the Bar George logo on top and some sea salt crystals on a cute black slate board. The focaccia was fluffy and great, especially with the salted butter. It was nice that they cut up the beef Wellington into 2 parts already as we were sharing. Our other friend got the Lobster Risotto and I have to say hers was the best one of the 3. It has a curry flavor to the sauce and was just so flavorful and unique. The risotto soaks up all the flavor so that you have a delicious bit every time. The beef Wellington was recommended at Medium and it was perfect, Juicy and tender but it could have used a sauce on the side or a better side to bring in some more flavors. The halibut was a bit plain as well and needed a sauce. However, both dishes were still delicious. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. He helped answer any questions we had and gave his recommendations. Overall, a very pleasant experience, but just lacking a bit for me due the upscale vibes and pricing. Would still make a lovely meal if you are visiting Toronto.

On our first visit, Charlotte took wonderful care of us. The menu's ham and cheese option, which looked like a scone, seemed a bit heavy, so I asked if she could offer something lighter. Though a ham and cheese croissant isn't on the menu, she kindly offered to bring me the ingredients so I could make my own. I ordered a plain croissant with capicola, a ham-and-salami-style cold cut, and cheese on the side, then assembled my own sandwich at the table. I was so happy she accommodated me, and the simplicity and quality of the ingredients were perfect alongside one of the best lattes we've had in a very long time. On our second visit, Violet served us with the same warmth. I knew exactly what to ask for, and she delivered just as Charlotte had. We enjoyed great lattes with an extra shot of espresso on the side, and a hot chocolate that our son called one of the best he's ever had. The atmosphere is lively and cozy, with people chatting, warm lighting, and lovely decor. It's a bit tight inside and gets very crowded, but we were lucky to be seated right away both times, and we felt truly blessed as we watched a long line form outside. This is a staple for us, and it will definitely be on our list the next time we're in Old Montreal.

We learned from the Two Gay Expats on YouTube that this was the place to try based on the charismatic chef Michael Tozzi and his renowned ricotta pancakes. Jamie W and I got here late on a weekday morning. Sure enough there was a queue. Dame fortune must've smiled upon us because we moved to the head of the line as a party of two. Even though the threat of rain hung over us, we were seated in the front parklet and quite happily since the dining room inside looked packed. We started with a couple of C$6.25 Iced Maple Lattes because it felt like the Canadian thing to do. They provided a welcome caramel-like sweetness to our refreshment (Photo 9). Jamie was more conscientious about his entree and ordered the C$26.99 Crunchy Sesame Chicken Salad, quite a mound of delights: romaine, cabbage, carrot, celery, shredded chicken breast, cashews, cilantro, fried wontons, and sesame chicken (Photo 8). Both the textures and flavors meshed really well together. Of course you can guess what I ordered, the C$27 Ricotta Pancakes with brown butter maple sauce, lemon cream, and Quebec strawberries (Photo 10). The ambiance is so lovely and it truly is the best place for delicious brunch items and taking cute pictures too! My friends and I visited on a Saturday morning without reservations, but we went relatively earlier. We were seated right away for a table of 4 and were served teas and coffee. I ordered the Bone Marrow & Duck Confit which consisted of a country-style bread, duck poached egg, bone marrow, confict duck leg, manchego shavings, herb salted crumble and green peas. It's a massive dish and honestly everything tasted amazing all together. The bone marrow was perfectly cooked and the duck poached egg meld everything together. They also give you another bowl so you can put the marrow once you're done eating it. The bread was needed to soak up every part of this delicious dish. Other items ordered was the Foie Gras (Chef's specialty) which had brioche bread, duck poached egg, caramelized onion compote and crispy proscuitto chips. The chips were a wonderful item to pair with the seared foie gras. The foie gras was perfectly cooked. The Rustic is another fan favourite which had brioche bread, duck poached egg, sautéed mushrooms. pulled pork, potatoes and argula sprouts. it is such a beautiful dish - nice colours, many ingredients and placed well on the plate; not to mention it was so good too! There was also a touch of sweetness in the sauce that cut through the richness in the best way. Every bite was perfectly balanced.
