In a nutshell, if you are not a long-standing customer and willing to be forced to accept services. This is not your place. The older lady was insistent I accept gel manicure. I respectfully explained my nails were paper thin and gel increased the damage. Four times, this lady insisted. This after I struggled to understand her English. I am Latina; so, I am patient. This tech also upset because I had a lot of cuticles and it scared me; because she was working very quickly and even pinched me with cutters. As she finished off my nails, she was talking about me to another Asian tech in her native tongue. But being Latina I know how this happens. Which is rude in any language. Instead of using lamp to dry regular nail polish she placed a fan. In error I did not request the lamp because I thought product she used did not require a lamp. So, when the tech informed me, I could leave. I left with wet regular nail polish, and I returned to ask her to correct damage, the tech and manager in front of other customers told me, it was my fault. I let with further embarrassment in front of other customers. Later when calm, I called the manger to explain the tech's work and she was condensing in apology and condensing offer to repair. The policy should have been correct the bad work at the moment a customer shares. Like I said, if you are NOT a regular customer, this place will not welcome you unless you accept their offers. read more

Welp another case of " going to the nail salon while brown". Sad we live in this "America" I step inside and an older Asian lady looks me up and down. Then she goes to ask me how she can help me. I advise her that I was looking to get a polish change on my toes. Then there was the quintessential back-and-forth in a foreign language. I was asked to sit down more back-and-forth,.......which makes for a very uncomfortable spa experience. There was one available nail tech Michelle she was kind enough. She took care of my service which was very quick literally just polished change and nothing extra. Of course they don't have any signage of cost until you sit down and ask if you want a pedicure. So she tells me the service Is $12. She tells me to wait for five minutes after she puts the topcoat on that I have provided. After the service is over, I gave her my card and she says "oh you're gonna pay with this" and I said "yes" (like 99% of other people do).She says the minimum amount for a card is $20 so I say OK......Well I don't have cash. I just have my card so what do we do? she tells me you can use the ATM in the front which charges a fee. Or you can go to Rite Aid that's next-door and get cash back. I said "that's perfectly fine I'll be right back I'll go to Rite Aid". So with tissue between my toes I am hobbling towards the front door. The older Asian lady in the front chair pops up all of a sudden and stops me and says" how much you pay ?" I told her the service is $12 so that's how much I want to put on my card. She said" fine fine I do it this time but next time you bring cash" ( little does she know there will NEVER be a next time here). So she was ready to tackle me before I took 1 foot out of the door to ensure that SHE got my cash before I was even able to go to leave to go to Rite Aid to get cash back. The level of distrust was Astounding and quite frankly mind-boggling ,and so evident right in my face. It really saddens my soul when things like this happen in this day and time or in 2024 and people say that they're not racially biased when I experience it waaaaaay too often. And to top it all off, my toe was smudged! It's totally up to you where you spend your hard earned money but me personally I would never give another dollar to an establishment like that. read more

I have been coming to Focus Nails for several years. I have always had great service with a welcome greeting when you walk in and quality nail services. They are clean and careful with sanitation with tools and the pedicure spa chairs. The spa chairs always are in working order and provide the kneading massage mode that I prefer on my back. Sandy is very accommodating with making appointments work for your schedule. If she is unable to plug you in in the exact time you need, she will call you when there is a cancellation. She also is the lead manicurist. Linda is the mani/pedicurist that I always make my appointment with. She is kind, thorough and consistently gives me a great massage. Ive been a client for over 7 years until now. This salon was sold by its original owner and under new management as of 2024. I'm not sure who's running the salon now but it's gone downhill. Some of the pedicure girls are great, great customer service too (this is why Im giving 2 stars) but the lady doing nails has got to be one of the rudest, most unskilled nail techs I've ever encountered and she doesn't know it or care apparently. This women literally threw my hand away more than once because she was irritated with my request for a clear gel instead of the pink that SHE wanted. ??? She filed my nails different shapes, which I questioned her about and she smacked her teeth at me and ignored me. Any business should always strive to make their clients happy. Just because business may pick up, does not mean anyone can slack in what needs to be done. Business can fluctuate up and down, so it is crucial to always give the best service. Nail shops are competitive so this should be kept in mind. Customers will always go where they are fairly treated in all business aspects with regard to efficiently doing the work with ALL well-trained nail technicians so the customer is satisfied ALWAYS, and making sure pricing is discussed up front before performing services to correctly be charged, and finally, making sure services that are not satisfactory can be redone so the customer can walk away happy! Very disappointed in my toes. Just got them done and I sat down for 2 hours I had to get them re do. I'm just so bothered they all look different the color is not nice and the toe shape is horrible. I'm really upset that I paid $50 for this type of service. Don't recommend this place at all. Let me tell you why they are low in stars ... SERVICE. We have had several occasions where they have told us 5,10, 15, 20 minutes wait. We always wait. But it's always at least 10 minutes or more LONGER than what they say. On our last trip we about wrote them off (they are closest to home - so out of convenience we gave them a 3rd chance) but then today Happened. We didn't walk in and wait, we MADE AN APPOINTMENT!!!!!! When we arrived they welcomed us bc they knew who we were and we called ahead. (2 hours ahead) .. they sat us both in seats with our feet in the water. But then she tells me, I'll start your husband can you wait 10 minutes? SERIOUSLY? After I'm in the water? 25 mins later, my feet are pruned, my husband is basically done, and I'm not even started ...and looking at the staff, I had at least another 10 minutes to wait. I am DONE with this place. If you can't accommodate an appointment then don't take it, or turn away walk ins... We will never return. read more

My sister came in with a certificate purchased by my mother, she asked the staff if they would accept it they said yes, then the nail artist took the certificate, she did not give it back to my sister. My sis got manicure and a pedicure (as stated on the certificate) after telling her they would accept the certificate, and finished her nails, The same woman who said she would accept the certificate said she had no idea what my sister was talking about and denied ever even seeing a certificate. My sister works hard and deserves to be treated. My mother payed for the certificate and they refused to let her use it AND took it away from her. Don't come here for nails. They had to make white glitter powder. When she flies the nails on she didn't put enough powder to cover where the fake nail was glued on. I told he twice, she said it wouldn't show. Sure enough it did. At this point I had been there for 2 hours. She was trying to Paint white polish and glitter over it to fix it. I said no remove them. I was getting ready for a new job orientation. Got my hair done! Then decided to get gel nails, for the clean well groomed and polished look my position requires. No added length, just clean nice nails. After sitting down, they piled a stack of samples that looked like kids menus from a restaurant m, as they were filthy. I should have left right then. As we errr doing my nails, the heating lamps were really hot. I kept pulling my hands back and she kept igniting what I was saying. She kept my hands in there the second or third round, and I was burnt bad. When I left I could hardly pull out my credit card. Barely made it home. Soaked my hands in cold water for an hour and Joey waiting got blisters to appear. My pinkies got it the worst, all the way up ti my wrist. Never in my 20 plus years, have I been burnt by the gel lamps. They must have bought cheap bulbs. Michelle paid no kind to my discomfort. Only said three things during the hour plus time. The place is dirty, there is no personality tip be found in the place. I wish I would have just put clear gel on at home. Saved myself the pain and suffering. 24 hours later, I have barely been able to take a shower. My hands are stinging and it's going to be a while before they heal. I am calling the doctor for burn cream. Even if they offered free pedicures fir a year, you couldn't drag me into that place. read more

After that when we got to choosing colors they kept trying to up sell me to gel, saying that the company switched the colors on them and they don't match anymore and that if I pick gel they'll be what I pick from their selection. Horrible experience! Very rude! Unprofessional! I went to this place less than two weeks ago and my nail started to chip less than one week after I received the service. Even though I told them I want to do dip powder, Linda and Sandy insisted that I should instead do gel Powder. I said I want something that could stay at least for one month because dip powder always stay at least for one month. They said sure, gel powder is better, your nail will be more strong, good for your nail!!!! I trusted them and then in less than a week this happened. I came to their salon today and drove about 18 minutes and showed my nail to them. I don't know if it was Sandy or Linda, she was so rude and she said it is what it is! We only fix one nail for you. she said we told you it stays only for two weeks and it's already two weeks! (Such a lie because she told me it stays for a month) While I was talking to her, she ignored me and left and no manager was in the salon to professionally answer my question! When I asked for the manager's phone number, she said manager is not here today. I have customer! When I asked for a card, she said "get it yourself." It Was supposed to be a nice day and a relaxing day with my friend but we were treated badly and rushed to chose a color, spoken rudely to, talked about in Vietnamese and laughed at, burnt my finger with the nail drill on purpose because I didn't want gel, then she embarrassed me in front of the other ladies there when I asked about what the cost was for my fill and she shouted that she already told me on the phone when I didn't even call or ever speak with her. She was so rude, pushy and had such a bad argumentative mean attitude. She Even opened my purse aggressively to get my wallet out so I could pay and broke my pandora bracelet! All the beads fell to the floor and she just threw them in my purse and didn't even offer to pay to repair it. The lady who did my pedicure was kind but the massage was weak and it was so fast. I was expecting them to take off my nails by soaking them in acetone or buzzing them off , but no. she RIPPED them off and it was super painful. Ouch! I am two days out from the recent pedicure I had at Focus Nails (with "Tracy") and I am seriously soaking my right foot in Epsom salt because of the soreness and inflammation I am experiencing after this horrific pedicure. My toes were in no way inflamed like they appear to be now (I posted a photo of the current state of affairs, so sorry for all the grossness) when I went in there this past Sunday, but since I do occasionally deal with slightly ingrown toenails, I did asked Tracy to trim down the sides of my nails a bit. Unfortunately, I am now paying the painful price of letting someone who clearly had no idea what they were doing touch my feet. That said, while Tracy was prying out the nail and unnatural amounts of skin from the sides of my toenails, I felt some pretty gnarly sharp and stinging pain (the kind of pain that you feel when someone is inflicting injury on you). It was bad enough that My response was to yank away my foot from her and say "OWWWW!!!" loud enough that I'm sure the people in my immediate vicinity heard me express my discomfort. After I told Tracy that she hurt me, she insisted that I trust her because she "knows her job" and continued to forcefully pry out the nail and what appeared to be a long piece of skin from the sides of my nail. You be the judge- would you want to go to this nail salon after what you heard from me? Perhaps if you're a masochist and like red, infected, and painful toes, this'll be your dig. For all you other folks out there--steer clear of Focus Nail Salon in Rancho San Diego. I know I will be staying away. So very far away that I wouldn't touch this place again with a 12 foot toe. read more

I have gone a handful of times with my daughter. I had a bad experience every time, but still gave them the benefit of the doubt. This last time was definitely the last. Don't waste your money. They want to charge $5 extra for everything, you show them exactly what you want and they insist doing it their own way. My daughter got a $30 manicure and they left old polish on it and made her bleed. I spent over $100 on my stuff and 1 day later my pedicure chipped and my acrylic nail snapped off. My pedicure came out beautifully and exactly how I wanted it. Minus the 1 star Bc the lady who helped me did poke me twice with the cuticle remover and they aren't the friendliest group of ladies- Sort of don't acknowledge you or make eye contact.
