Way to go, Flying M! You nailed it! A great cup of coffee. Does not have a drive through but is So worth going out of our way to find you. This is a cute little coffee / gift shop. Reasonably priced. Coffee is perfect! We will be back when in the area!

While visiting friends for the holiday, we went to the City of Caldwell's Winter Wonderland Festival to see the skating rink and light festival. We stopped by the Flying M Coffeeshop for a festive holiday drink before we walked around to see the lights. Unfortunately the only thing festive were the adorable decorations for sale on the wall! I completely understand that the crowds were big for the festival, but they seemed to have it completely staffed with at least 6-8 people behind the counter. But every single employee was grouchy that night- they should have been issued a Grinch Tshirt as the uniform of the day! It took over a half an hour to get two coffees (that was after finally placing our order)- which BTW cost us over $16!!! When the coffee was finally set on the counter (you had to ask several times which one was yours as they did not interact with the customers at all) it was stone cold. This was not the holiday experience I was anticipating, and it actually gave me a bad first impression of the town of Caldwell. I hope it was just a bad night, but if you are a business participating in the festival, you should be better prepared, and maybe training your employees in customer service.

Probably the best coffee in the area IMO! We tried a few other places and Flying M was definitely our favorite. The inside was made for plant lovers as well..loved the aesthetics.

Flying M is an Idaho local staple with 3 locations: Downtown Boise, Nampa, and this one in the Indian Creek Plaza in Caldwell. They have it all here- fairly priced coffee, pastries, and a gift shop. I actually highly recommend checking this spot out for gift shopping- I recently picked up an insulated cup with artwork from a local artist on it! What really makes this location special is the sense of community and social consciousness that Flying M has established. There is a Community Fridge and members of the community can get a free snack pack- no questions asked. They have also partnered with the Boise period project to supply free feminine health products. Flying M also has great sustainable practices established in all of their locations, not to mention their sustainable to-go cups are adorable! I'm usually an iced drink kinda gal, but with the snow and ice skating rink outside when I went- I got a medium lavender latte with soy milk. I felt really cute walking around and checking out the other businesses in the plaza with my cute little hot latte. Flying M isn't only selling coffee, they're selling a vibe and I'm buying it.

Wow! I eat here. It was one of my best meals from this year! I had the coffee too as well. The cappacino was very good I was impressed by its milk. I will have have another time to visit back here if I can!

Almond croissant, caramel latte, and a little plant I picked up next door.

Fun place with a little shop to peruse. I didn't care for my matcha latte, unfortunately, but the pecan roll was amazing.

The filling tasted like straight sugar.. no blueberry taste.. no lemon juice, no salt at all.. and there was too much almond spice. Blueberries have some of the most diverse flavors, don't hide the flavor of blueberry with the amount of sugar& spice you put in the filling. I'm giving the rest of the pie to my guava and I'm going to Walmart to get a redemption blueberry pie. I really hate leaving a subpar answer for a review, but I was suuuper stoked to get a homemade blueberry pie.

They even have a handful of fruit pie options that are frozen unbaked to take and bake at home. HOW TO ORDER: *I have ordered different pies (marionberry take and bake, key lime, strawberry rhubarb, cherry) four times over the last two years via the Boise Farmers Market on line interface ( https://theboisefarmersmarket.com/ ) to pick up on Saturday mornings at the Market. *At this site https://www.bakerias.com/US/Caldwell/139446106778836/Black-Kettle-Pies - Black Kettle owners indicate they will deliver for $25 and also that as of January 2021 pie orders are accepted Mon - Wed for pick up at a Caldwell location (5104 S 10th Ave) on Fri morning from 9a to 11a. *On their Square order site https://blackkettlepies.square.site/ they list the following for order protocol pick up times when ordering via that site: Pickup Time & Location Boise Corner of 14th & Spa St. (this is the Farmers Market) Sat 9a - 1p Caldwell 5104 S. 10th Ave. Fri 9a - 9:30a Eagle Farmers Market Sat 9a - 2p Nampa Farmers Market Sat 9a - 1-p Confusing? For sure and you may want to call the contact number listed on their FB page 208-459-8828 to clarify. If I order again I'll stick with the Boise Farmers Market online interface which is very simple to use with pick up Saturday mornings from 9a - 1p as scheduled by you. THE GOODIES: While my hubby and I applaud this hard working couple who came back to Idaho to make pie after retirement from food concessions and event business in California, aside from the Key Lime pie or others like it which have a graham cracker crust we enjoy, we likely won't order their pies again only because they use lard to make their standard pie crust. Lard imparts both a texture and flavor we don't as much appreciate in crusts for fruit pies although it is what my great-great and great grandmothers both used for their pies and so I remember the flavor from my childhood into young adult days too when one or the other of them was baking. Then it worked for me. Now it doesn't. Things evolve. But some people prefer lard in pie crust and if that is your thing then this is your pie because the fillings are tasty for sure. And they have won awards so clearly the crust works for others. We may put the cheesecakes on our radar. BACK STORY: As shared by Ron on a bakers' site. "Our story starts when I was 13 years old. I worked after school and Saturdays in Boise for Eddy's Bakery. That's what started my love for baking. Over 27 years ago I got into the food business as a concession at fairs and special events. Part of our business was making and selling pies on site at the events. We traveled six different state working the larger shows. About 8 years ago I felt a younger man needed to run the pie business so we sold the unit to a operator in California. I very quickly realized I missed doing pies so here we are again. Our main market is internet as well as Farmer's Markets. We have been blessed to win awards for our pies at the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival, The Indio Date Festival in California, the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton California, In 2002 we were written up in the National Geographic Magazine."
