I haven't been to too many truck stops because I don't really go on that many road trips, but this is sort of a unique situation because my company is doing work near there and I stayed at the adjacent hotel. The restaurant is decent but a few people I know have told me stick with the salad bar. The convenience store area is clean and brightly lit with most of the stuff you'd find at an AM/PM for instance. There is a lot of the trucker kitsch like porcelain stuff or stuffed animals, plus parts for your truck like CB radios, fuses, bulbs, log books, etc. Gas is decently priced as is generally cheaper than the stations nearby. read more

If I woulda planned my trip a little better I would not have had to shut my rig down here. I have always avoided this truck stop, there are 2 better ones down the hill! The store seems like it has a lot of junk like name tag license plates and stuf like that but its short on useful stuff for your vehicle like tools or fluids. I was xcited that dennys took over the resturant because it suckd before. It still sucks now tho. I orderd eggs and sausage and it was on my table in less than 6 mins!! was it nuked or sumthing? after dinner I went in for a shower and no supprise there same old dirty showers. There was a hair on the toilet seat! Yuk! Im not saying it was a puuub but it was close to that part of the seat. lol. I will continue to avoid this place. read more

We stop here all the time for fuel and other goodies. I always enjoy the stop as the store is always clean and well stocked and the staff is friendly and helpful with things. Chris is great, he always asks about my children, how my day is and has a smile on his face. I have used my card at this location very frequently and have never ever had any issues with it. I use my debit card here at least 3-5 times a week sometimes more for the last year without a single issue. The hot food served is pretty good for a truck stop. I enjoy the hot dogs and chicken strips quite a bit. They have an excellent selection of everything and it's priced well. The only think I'm not a fan of is the $0.10 for a bag but it's standard in LA County which they are apart of. Overall this is one of my favorite stops to make on our travels. read more

Not sure why, but people seem to be afraid of truckstops. Why, you ask? Well, for some reason they go across the street from this place and pay 25 cents more a gallon for gas. Dont worry, my leased lexus driving friends. The car gas here is way separated from the hard working truckers. You know, the people who actually work for a living? The bathrooms here are very clean, and trust me, this place has the cheapest gas between LA and Sacramento. Its a solid 30 cents a gallon cheaper than Kettlemen City. They only other place that is close is the Pilot Travel Center in Santa Nella. Again, thats a truck stop, so you loose the yuppie crowd. I got stuck in Frazier on a recent trip (thank you Superior Automotive for saving my life), and ate at the Cookery restaurant. See my review for that place, but we had breakfast pancakes and they rocked. It was a TON of delicious food for $7 a plate. Again, stop here once, save a ton on gas. You wont be sorry. read more

They have good, clean toilets and plenty of them: Flying J is the second-best potty break stop on the Grapevine. Attached to the restrooms is a Denny's and a convenience store with every kind of junk food known to man. Oh, and there's a kiosk with silver jewelry for sale...like anyone cares. read more

1.99$ for an hour of WiFi is not bank-busting -- but, come on dudes -- it is 2014 C.E.. There several Denny's up and down this side of the 5 that feature free WiFi. I love truck stops. I don't know why, I do not drive nor do I have the desire to drive an 18 wheeler. But I love having a place to stop along the highway that is well lit, populated, has clean restrooms, and hot coffee. Okay place to refuel the auto and human gas tanks. read more

Gas is not necessarily the cheapest here but I always get gas here because it's just right before the big hump over the mountain going to LA. And when you ride this down on a full tank, you get amazing gas mileage. Best I've ever down at the bottom is 80 mpg! But then you hit LA traffic and it falls to 53 mpg (I've a Prius). read more

I have been coming here almost twice a month for the last 8years. Not so much now days but almost 8times a month in past years. Great halfway point for my destinations. Nice place to streach your legs, get gas and grab a snack. Due to the recent buyout of flying j this location has slowly been getting remodeled and cleaned up even better. But I do have a complaint they seam to always be out of unleaded plus and unleaded premium everytime I stop in day or night for the last several months. I have not been coming frequently but its been consistantly this issue the times I showed up. This has turned into an issue for me as my car takes premium only. Tip for anyone unforunite to show up when the restrooms are being cleaned. Follow the hallway around the barber shop and through the truckers lounge and on the left will be another set of bathrooms. They never clean the front and back at the same time. So now you don't have to wait for them to finish cleaning. :) read more

Trust me, this is NOT the cheapest gas between Sacto and LA as one review promised. I bought gas at Flying J in Ripon this morning for $2.31, and paid $2.51 at the RV pumps here to top off before heading to Oceanside, CA. I saw cheaper gas in the valley but this is likely cheapest around Frazier Park. Flying J does do a good job of saving motorists money on gas and diesel, but this particular Flying J is one of the worst I use. The RV pump was just a wreck. It was very old, difficult to read, and didn't print the receipt, which is the case more and more often lately at Flying Js. It's either poor help not loading the paper for the receipts to print, or lousy pump maintenance. This one was broken and when I went inside for a receipt the lines were very long, as usual, and when I asked a clerk on the floor if she'd get my receipt she brushed me off and said get in line. Not hardly. I had to write my own receipt. I asked her why I had to come inside for a receipt that should have printed at the pump, and she said nonchalantly that it was broken. Seemed to be no big deal to her. They sell only regular gas and diesel at the pumps. They didn't want to spend the money to redo the premium tank, or so I was told, so they simply quit selling premium and mid grade here years ago. This lousy Flying J is not the usual, most Flying Js seem better run. But it is one of the worst I've gassed up at, and I've often gassed here over the years. The place seems to be in decline. But... if you want cheap gas in this area, this is the place. Grin and bear it, I guess. I did today and will likely do so in the future. read more

For those whining about various things, look for those things to get addressed in the near future because they're about to level this whole place and rebuild it from the ground up. Closing for the rebuild is scheduled for late summer 2016. Regarding gas prices along the highways in that area, remember that taxes in Kern County are a lot less than in L.A. County. But the major chains aren't going to charge less along the highway when they can gouge. You can find cheaper gas if you get off the highway in Kern and look for it. But along the Interstate, this Flying J was always the most reliable and furthest south place to get that Kern County lower price. read more

Always and forever a fan. The landmark of being on the last of the more desolate Interstate 5 now behind us and the last 100 miles before arriving at Disneyland. (Except this trip, was off to Palm Springs for a drama-rich wedding, but that's for another day.) This racist man was harassing us on an issue that had nothing pertaining to him & Rick an employee here helped us thoroughly & stayed with us the entire time to make sure we were safe. If you like truck stops this place is for you. They have just about everything you could imagine. I dig the deep friend trucker burritos. This is the perfect halfway point between Hell aka the Kern County and home aka LA. If your a "Lot Lizard" this is not your kinda stop. They are strict at this joint. The 4 months Flying J was closed for remodeling was tough for people on the mountain. Thankfully they reopened earlier this year, and are even better than ever. The new Wendy's and Dunkin' Donuts are really a plus. And to top that, they have the best gas prices I've seen anywhere in Southern California. read more

Friendly staff, well stocked travel store, and the cheapest gas between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The Shell just one exit away is a full $1 per gallon more expensive, and nowhere near as well stocked. The showers for rent here are also great. Their public restrooms are relatively clean compared to other truck stop type travel centers, though still far from perfect. But the helpfulness of their staff makes up for it. read more

Ok I'm updating my review and changing it from 1 to 3 star, seems since the Gas station across the street changed to an Arco the prices here have somewhat corrected. Used to have reasonably priced gas here but anymore they're running $.40 to $.50 higher than in Bakersfield. Actually today I filled up in Lamont for $3.45 and sure enough when I came past Flying J on my way home price is still $3.99 that's a $.54 spread, another record breaker! read more

The map shown on this link is the Flying J mailing address, not the location of the truck stop, which is just off I-5 at the Frazier Park exit #205. Their gas prices are usually the best in the area and cheaper than most in LA. (Arco usually advertises the same price as the Flying J but charges extra for credit cards.) I always stop here for gas and bathrooms on the way to Pine Mountain Club. read more

Filthy Dirty, disgusting bathrooms, non-attentive cashiers texting on smartphone while attempting to cash out your purchase, access and exit doors chained and padlocked, drivers theater room has only several rows of prehistoric theater seats, driver showers are mopped with dirty floor water and then used to clean toilet seat, absolutely the WORST Pilot/Flying J in the country. read more

This place has amazing pizza! You would never expect it at under $10 a pie, but it does! I was in charge of getting food for an entire movie crew and we got about 11 pizzas. Great toppings, yummy crust, good cheese. Who would have guessed it. Once I was hung over and got some here too. This place does not disappoint. read more

Once again I was scalded in the shower. I thought managers were supposed to personally use each shower to ensure safe, proper use. Shower #2 specifically: you have to run the shower (wasting water) before you realize it was plumbed backwards. Then when you finally get a nice temperature, every time someone in the building flushes (that's about 24 toilets in the building) all the cold water goes somewhere else and you get scalded by the boiling hot water. OK folks beware of this truck stop, I called earlier to check to make sure that there was reserved parking and the cashier told me that they did have reserved parking because the lot was full I get here and half the lot is empty I park my truck in one of the empty lots I walk in there and the cashier told me not to worry about it that I will not be charged then I got to thinking that was too easy I go back in there to purchase a shower and I asked the lady once again are you sure I will not be charged and she said call customer service and sure enough customer service did not refund me my $15 for the reserved parking so anyway I left my truck where it was I did not move it to the reserved parking and now somebody will be out on the street when it gets full because there are no reserve parking spots left thanks to the flying J and as for the showers be extremely careful 80% of the water comes out cold and if you're lucky you may get a few drops of warm water. read more

This could quite possibly be the worst Flying J I've ever been to. The restrooms are always disgusting and never seem to be stocked with essentials like, I don't know, toilet paper? By the way it looks, I can only assume they clean the restrooms about once a day unless someone complains I'm sure. The rest of the establishment is pretty standard I suppose. Hey it's a gas station and a truck stop at that. They have all the regular goodies you will find at any gas station and some extras for the truckers going cross country. Getting in and out is easy enough and there are plenty of pumps so you likely will not wait long if at all. read more

The gas station is ok, but the Wendy's inside SUCKS! Like, where did you find these people that work there?!? I've been there maybe about 5-6 times, and EVERY SINGLE TIME, they have screwed up our order, whether it be missing items, overcharged for something we didn't even order, or putting extra onions on something when we said no onions :/ It seems like the same girl is always at the drive thru and she is soooo slow, like just off in her own little world not paying attention. It's no better if you try to go inside and order, the girl at the counter is more focused on upselling you between every word instead of the accuracy of what you're ordering. This is literally the worst fast food restaurant I have ever experienced in my life, it's literally a gamble when you go... save your sanity and go across the street to jack in the box, or drive a few more minutes down to Carl's or McDonald's in Gorman! read more

A little trick for all you travelers driving up or down the 5. Skip the grapevine/laval exit and head to Flying J off Frazier Mt. Road (its just 10 minutes from the base of the grapevine). Gas is typically .20.- 30 cents cheaper, its easy on/easy off the freeway, its not as busy. read more

Never an issue when I come here. I decided to get my fuel here because the prices are lower than all the big brand stations. Now that I know that it's ALL AMERICAN OIL, I will keep getting my fuel here. I even drive my wife's car over here, 5 miles from home, to get the fuel for her car. KEEP YOUR MONEY IN THIS COUNTRY!
