I'm from Louisiana- so I'm very picky about my crawfish but the crawfish here are super juicy, and aren't covered in seasoning (it's cooked properly in the water). The flavor is really good and it comes with 2 potatoes and corn. They are $8.95 a lb (as of March 2026) which is cheaper than most places around. Even in Shreveport they are $9.99. While eating there- I had several people ask me if they were good and I told them yes and they all proceeded to order them too- if only I got commission on selling people their crawfish lolol overall great!!

Popular location with a casual atmosphere, great decorations, and hot Cajun food. Good flavor with friendly service. Would definitely recommend for quick and easy Cajun food.

I had breakfast at the Flying Fish with my family a few weeks ago when I was visiting Dallas. We picked it because the area was central for all of us meeting for breakfast but also because I wanted a breakfast that wasn't just your standard American eggs and bacon! That's not to say that you can't have a classic American breakfast at Flying Fish - you definitely can! - but I loved that their Cajun/Creole/seafood emphasis was incorporated into their breakfast menu as well! They have omelettes, but one of them comes with gumbo, another with andouille sausage! They have grits and gumbo, chilaquiles, and migas! So it's classic American + Cajun/Creole + a little Tex-Mex, too. Something for everyone. I had the migas; my husband had the grits and gumbo; and the rest of my family tried other dishes. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered! I also really enjoyed the decor and the service. You feel like you could be a in fish fry shack in East Texas for sure. It's charming and fun and casual, and the food is good. I'd happily return for another meal!

COOL place to eat FISH! Ceiling & walls R covered with fish, that it makes me want to go fishing & bring my fish & stick it on the wall!

A buddy of mine recommended them for catfish. I decided to check them out and loved it. The whole catfish was top notch.

Fried shrimp is yumalicious and a bargain at $13

It's been a while since I've visited this original Flying Fish location. As I walked in I was reminded about how excited I was to find this place almost 20 years ago. The eclectic decor and authentic Gulf Coast fish shack vibe "Hooked "me. Shannon Wynne definitely knows how to do restaurants and Flying Fish is a great example. Cutting no corners on food ingredients or preparation, he "feeds" the public like he wants to be fed. Attention to detail in every inch of the place from the door to, the helpful counter staff, to the always delicious meal. Today's fried catfish and gulf shrimp were no exception. If you haven't been its definitely time to... Go!

Not bad at all! Nice filling comfort food that hit the spot. The Gumbo was decent, the blackened salmon nice and tender, the fried catfish, fries, and hushpuppies were delicious! Very reasonable prices and a very comfy casual setting

One dozen raw, Gulf oysters as part of the protein platter.

The food, service, and ambience were all fantastic. The services provided by the professional management and staff are the main reasons that we keep coming back. The old world elegance is a rare thing, and we value their focus to make sure that everything about the dining experience is excellent. I highly recomend this restaurant.

3 shrimp and very small fish filet basket

Go to Big Shucks. Better portions. No old fishy smell. Fresh cut fries not from a bag. They sell you a 14$ basket and it's mostly frozen bagged fries. They're not even fresh fries. Their taco plate has more food for the same price. One of the 3 fish tacos had more fish than the box did. So for the same price you get 3x the protein and no stale frozen fries. Great for my grandpa's meal but left me hungry. I threw the fries away because they were just hard and not very good. It's better to buy frozen fries at the store and make them yourself so you don't get something that's been sitting out and overcooked with soggy grease. Their customer service is awful. I live 20 minutes away and their solution is I can spend 40 minutes there and back for a refund. Really? So I spend 40+ on food from them and half my order is two cups of frozen french fries that are limp and luke warm with lots of grease. The place smelled like old fish when you walk by before you even walk in.

    Shrimp Jambalaya with bread

This place is amazing. Upon entering you can tell that this restaurant is beloved by its community and has been a staple here for a while. It's very well decorated and it was packed when I entered for lunches this restaurant specializes in Cajun food from Po boys, to fried baskets, to plates. I tried their shrimp jambalaya with bread and I really enjoyed it. The shrimp were over cooked, but the flavors made up for it. The staff is friendly and efficient and a great option for a quick lunch. The pricing is about $15 for most options and for the area it's not bad. I would definitely come back on a different day to try other dishes. If you bring a Billy Bass, you get a free fried basket and they have a rewards card as well. So fun!

Started with 3 pounds but it was so good I had to get two more pounds. The crawfish is seasoned the right way where the flavor is on the inside so they don't have to cover it in a dry spice. Also they were all big with just a few smaller ones. To top it off, having strawberry abita on tap is the perfect match for crawfish so I was extra happy. Saw the bread pudding on the menu and had to get it for dessert. It was warm, chocolate, and ate every bite. I would get more of everything I had The service was so friendly too and the LSU and Louisiana decorations made me feel like I was back there.

I was not told to add grainy sugar into unsweetened tea like I was here. my tour guide was a local woman who's lived in the heart of New Orleans for 63 years, and was shocked and appalled when I read to her what the management of Charlie's Creole Kitchen replied to my critique regarding the Sweet Tea, (lack there of, as well as his belief that it isn't commonplace, or borderline essential) she was shocked in disbelief about as well as the astronomical prices we have to pay as their serving sizes in New Orleans are substantially bigger, for either equal or in some cases even cheaper prices. (OP) As someone from the Deep South, I have high standards for Southern Dives. The roasted red pepper sauce is incredible, and the cheese grits make it a real southern comfort platter. * Chicken, Shrimp & Bacon Corn Chowder (10/10): Truly New England-level quality. An absolute explosion of flavor. * Crab Cakes (10/10): Rich, delicious, and worth every bite. The Middle Ground: The Boudin Balls and Seafood Gumbo were solid (7/10), though the gumbo doesn't quite reach the level of a spot like Pappadeaux, it's decent. $11 for 3 decent Boudin Balls is highway robbery at its best. The side salads (3/10) the after thought of the menu, chopped head of lettuce smothered in ranch (or Italian) with one banana pepper, and one slice of tomato that looks like it was suppose to be on a burger, no toppings at all. Truck stops have better prepared salads. Which wouldn't typically be a problem if this was a budget-friendly eatery, but for its Texas-Sized prices, And New-York sized portions. The oversight of the Sweet-Tea and a decent side salad is for sure a miss. It might fully please Texans, but it left somethings to be desired from a non-Texan southerner. That being said! It is absolutely well worth the visit! The food was all above average for the region, the service was friendly, attentive and fast, the food came out quickly and efficiently. The location isn't great, but not bad. a little tight and congested, the interior is very mom & pop feeling which is nice. I truly did enjoy my experience, misses and all. After a long day in transit, all we wanted was something deeply satisfying, the kind of meal that feels like a reward. When my mother suggested Aunt Irene's Kitchen, there was no hesitation. She spoke of it with the reverence reserved for places that become part of your personal geography former neighborhood staples, the kind you measure other meals against. Years ago, when she lived nearby, this was her spot. And now, standing beside her in a line that stretched out the door, it was clear we weren't the only ones holding onto that sentiment. The queue moved with surprising ease, a quiet efficiency that felt almost practiced. Inside, the energy was unpretentious and steady. Our cashier, while not particularly warm, was brisk and knowledgeable answering questions with the kind of clarity that suggests confidence in the product more than performance. We ordered simply: wings with fries, and two plates of fried fish with fries. The wings hadn't been part of the original plan, but a fellow patron mid-meal and visibly excited leaned over to insist. It felt like advice worth taking. And it was. The food arrived in its own time this is not a place for the impatient but what it lacked in speed, it more than made up for in flavor. The fish was crisp and tender, the wings richly seasoned, each bite layered with the kind of depth that doesn't rush itself. Then there was the jalapeño tucked alongside the plate like a quiet signature. It cut through the richness with a bright, deliberate heat, a small but memorable detail that elevated the entire experience. The dining room itself is modest and well-kept, with many opting to take their meals to-go or retreat to their cars. There's an ease to it all ample parking, friendly faces coming and going, a sense of community that lingers longer than the wait.
