The food was really really bland......and I really mean it! The people was nice enough but that didn't make up for it. We arrived during late lunch when no other customers were around. We ordered 3 different dishes and went to take a seat at one of those small tables. Since there were no one else, we took 2 tables for the 3 of us. The food arrived shortly at our table by a server/kitchen helper. We took a bite and looked at each other's face....wow, there was no taste in any of our dishes. All dishes got really good base to be great but they weren't even closed to be good (hope you all understand...it's just not there). The meat was marinated and the noodles got nice texture, however, the soup doesn't really have any flavor. We ended up add lots of soy sauce into every bowls. From my own observation, all other tables have nearly empty soy sauce bottles as well which means everyone else also added a lot of soy sauce into their dishes. We got up and grabbed a couple more bottles to flavor our noodles plus some chili oil. Ended up, the dishes were not bad after some modifications. Other things to add: None of the tables were wiped and I wasn't really happy about the environment (paper napkin on the floor, empty soy&other bottles on tables, empty napkin holders, dirty tables, etc). The bottles and condiments were all nearly empty at around 3:30 pm. I supposed they might eventually fill them up before dinner rush. In my opinion, they just simply need to pay attention to these little things during down time which will greatly be appreciate by any customers. read more

Really liked this place... Would give it 4.5 if I could. Somewhat similar to Zoe Ma Ma, but much better in my opinion, with much more options. Really enjoyed everything we had (fresh, clean tasting) and staff were incredibly nice - would give it 5 stars if it didn't seem a little toned down to western palates. I think Colorado is ready for Chinese food that hits you over the head with flavor/fat/spice/etc. I don't blame the restaurant for this, I blame local taste. This place is AMAZING!! I lived in China for 4 years and so I'm super critical of Chinese restaurants. I moved to Boulder recently and I've tried every Chinese restaurant in town to find the most authentic cuisine and this IS IT!! The dumplings are SO tasty and juicy and perfect. The noodles are as fresh as could be. The cucumber salad is garlicky and yummy. No No No. The food is BLAND. I'm not sure who is giving this place four and five stars but they either have very low standards or were born without tongues. We were super excited to eat real Chinese food since my boyfriend lived in China for two years and he is always looking for legit versions. We got three different dishes for take out hang over food (can't remember the names it was a few weeks ago) it was two noodle dishes and some dumplings and they were all hugely disappointing! Amazing Chinese food, but if you're in the mood for beef and broccoli or greasy fried rice, keep looking. They prepare regional Chinese dishes like Taiwanese style braised pork belly and mapo tofu. They make noodles and wonton wrappers from scratch and there are lots of fresh vegetables involved in most of the dishes. That said, some dishes were "misses" for me (but probs loved by others). I particularly love all their varieties of dumplings, sesame chicken noodles (not what you might expect), pork belly over rice, duck noodle soup, chicken noodle soup. I wasn't as into their mapo tofu (I can't handle much Szechuan peppercorn) and the Dan Dan noodles, which is a tragedy bc I think those are two of the most familiar dishes. I was excited to see some of the menu items which were really different than what you'll find in a normal Chinese take out. I ordered the dan dan noodles and the Chinese sparerib noodles. The sparerib came with literally 5 small pieces of meat, two small slices of carrots, one leaf of bok choy, and one small chunk of eggplant. The rest was full of noodles and oil. So disappointing. The dan dan noodles was similar, hardly any vegetables. The food overall was very bland, it needed something. The food came in plastic containers that I attempted to wash out and reuse but there was so much oil in the food it wouldn't wash out, I had to throw them out. That's the level of oil in the food. This place doesn't look like much when you walk in but the food is excellent. They don't use msg and all the ingredients taste fresh! Lots of veggies and unique spices. We had the braised beef noodle soup. It was so flavorful and delish! We also got a side of Bok Choy which came in a spicy broth/sauce. read more

I'm from Taiwan and I was very excited when I heard about this new Chinese/Taiwanese place since there's not many good Chinese/Taiwanese restaurants here in Boulder. The dishes are okay but taste quite bland, and the portion's are quite small for the price. In addition, the staff was not very nice to me and my friends, and that didn't help with the experience. I love the flavors of the broths and the toppings. Truly excellent and unique flavors that you've likely never had before. Each dish is distinctly different. Unfortunately, they are extremely skimpy on the toppings. Most of what you get is noodles and broth. The prices are too high for so little food and the photos on their website do not match what you get. I love an extra brothy soup, but it needs to have more substance and to match the description. All the pho and ramen places in town have far more toppings than Flower Pepper. Example: a few days ago, we ordered two noodle dishes. They had 6 leaves of baby bok choy and 9 1"x1"x0.24" fried tofu pieces TOTAL between both of them. A previous order was similar. I really want to try the mapo tofu but not if there is only a few bites of tofu. So, I really love the flavors but sadly cannot recommend it because of how little food you get. If they up the topping quantity this would be one of my all time favorite restaurants. read more

I have been here twice now and don't quite understand the rave reviews. Maybe it's because I ate in and should have done take out, because the eat-in experience leaves much to be desired. The table tops and edges are so sticky (unclear whether it is caked-on food or deteriorating formica table tops) that you want to avoid touching it with your clothes or hands at all cost. Tonight I ended up getting some water in a plastic cup and scrubbing the table top with a paper napkin - always a great start for dinner. The spoons with which to eat your broth are little plastic teaspoons. Needless to say I stayed away from the barrel of plastic chopsticks (the rest of the establishment does not convince me of their cleanliness) and helped myself to some wooden ones that were still in the package. The condiment racks on the tables look equally disgusting. The counter service is lackluster at best. If they don't seem excited about their food or me eating there, then maybe I shouldn't be either. The food itself is "meh". The first time I had cold noodles (they were supposed to be cold so that was fine), and today I had the Dan Dan noodles with some potstickers. Nothing bad, but I was just trying to get out of there without touching any of the surfaces and there were no stand out flavors. Clean your establishment, provide some real utensils or simply close the eat-in part of your restaurant. Clearly many people like the food as the reviews here can attest to, but twice was enough for me. If you do like their food, stick with take out rather than to the table. I lived in an area of southwestern China where 担担面/Dan-dan noodles are very popular, and I love this dish. What I had here was NOT dan-dan mian. I don't know what it was, but it was awful. To echo another reviewer (who also ordered their noodles extra spicy), I got a handful of lonely noodles adrift in a vast sea of nasty broth that was both extremely oily and lacking in flavor (and not spicy at all). My husband's pork dish was also very disappointing. We didn't have time to try out other Chinese restaurants in the area, but surely there's something better than this. read more

Fresh tasting, soul and tummy filling! No MSG. We tried the chicken and shiitake dumplings for our appetizer - so delicate and flavorful! The sauce was not needed. This is a hidden gem. This seemingly sketchy food eatery is everything you want a Chinese street food place to be. The delicious homemade dumplings are amazing. The food is authentic Chinese and absolutely delicious. I have yet to have an item that disappointed.
