Flour + Water is an amazing restaurant with one of the best pasta and Neapolitan pizzas my tastes buds have come across! Fresh and flavorful. Spectacular use of produce, herbs and spices. We got a great treat to be in one of their private rooms celebrating a birthday. It was intimate and quaint. Room had a kitchen and private bathroom. Service was friendly and never felt rushed. I was so appreciative to have this experience at a wonderful restaurant.
We decided to try this place after seeing it on CBS Mornings. We thought it would be a great way to celebrate our anniversary. However, it was difficult to make a reservation, as the place is quite small and has a bar. After checking daily, the calendar opened up. The koshikari arancini was an absolute delight. It was so tasty and flavorful. The salsicia Bianca pizza was also a unique and delicious choice. It had a generous amount of sausage and was packed with flavor. The lamb parpadelle was another great dish. It was tender and flavorful, and the home made pasta was perfectly cooked. For dessert, we had the chocolate espresso cake with cream topping and sea salt. It was a great ending to an amazing meal. We also had the pleasure of trying their homemade gummies flavored with earl grey, which was a nice surprise. Not to mention, service was perfectly timed and our server was attentive and had a nice demeanor. Overall, we had a wonderful time at Flour and Water. Thank you for making our anniversary dinner so special.
Ambiance and customer service was good. However a few things about my dining experience were mismatched. The mininalisr design of the restaurant and fancy place settings didn't match the Latin music for me. I didn't expect Latin music in an Italian restaurant. But still fun lively vibe! The food was good and flavorful but sometimes it was too salty for me. I'm just a low sodium kind of gal. We didn't do the tasting menu at $139 a person but I think we ordered their popular dishes. For drinks we got the pour and water prize with hibiscus and that was refreshing. I'd they had a bottomless option of this drink I would change my review to 5 stars ! We got the poke beans appetizer with burrata and it was good. The sauce was on the salty side for me so it definitely needed to be enjoyed with the burrata in every bite. I also enjoyed the arancini- perfectly crisp on the outside and soft and flavorful in the inside. For mains, we got the duck pasta and the lamp pasta. My date felt like the lamb pasta was too rich. I disagree with him. How we it was a good serving of lamb meat. I did like the papperdelle and the Frank's made pasta stood out to me the most in this dish. The Sicilian duck pasta with granola and flower garnish was also delightful and interesting. But these days I cannot do spicy and there was some kick / heat to the sauce. While the granola was a fun touch, I think it got a bit chewy in the light sauce- so it didn't do much for me. Presentation and plating was pretty but it was an interesting dish that I couldn't put my finger on. For dessert we got the chocolate budini. It was super rich and even splitting the dessert I couldn't finish my share. It's like a soft rich dark chocolate pudding with lots of sea salt: Fun place to go to and it's hard to get reservations. But for something I waited so long for, it was mid for me. Good but so many other face restarts in the city I'm not sure I'll come back. I'll definitely try their pizza one day though!
This spot has been on my list for a while so I finally made the time to go for dinner. I made the reservation ahead of time through Resy. It's definitely a spot where you need to plan ahead to make a reservation. I'm happy to say that Flour + Water lived up to the hype! Everything we ordered was delicious, you could taste the quality of the ingredients and see the technique put into every dish. The interior was also beautiful, refined without being stuffy. It's a great place to take someone you want to impress or for a special occasion. We were trying to decide between the pasta tasting menu and normal menu. We landed on the normal menu since we wanted to try a pizza. We ordered the pole beans, puttanesca pizza, corn cappelletti, and the duck triangoli. Everything was amazing but the pasta dishes stood out! They were creative, delicious and very unique. I definitely want to come back to try the pasta tasting menu. The desserts were also great. The strawberry pavlova was to die for! You don't see pavlovas on dessert menus very often so I had to get it. It was fun to eat, the meringue was crispy and light and paired so well with summer strawberries. The service was also top notch.
It took me forever to get a reservation, but I understand the hype now. It was such an amazing dinner- from beginning to end. Food was complex in flavors and tasted fresh. My boyfriend and I were still dreaming about that dinner for at least 2 nights The vibe was causal and hipster. My recommendations is just get all pastas! Felt like I died and went to pasta heaven. Highly recommend!
This oldie but goody is still so good! I initially came here over 10 years ago and F+W has continued to produce and serve uniquely delicious yet familiar and comforting pasta despite their popularity. The restaurant environment is lively, yet relaxed and not too loud. Service coursed and paced the dishes at a good pace and attentive with refilling glasses. This place is a gem and so happy that it continues to thrive.
I came in with a reservation at 9:00 p.m. on a Tuesday and was seated almost immediately. One thing that surprised me was that the menu was very different from the other locations I've visited. I was expecting the larger pizza selection, so that was a bit unexpected. The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere with dim lighting, throwback pop music, and cute decor. We ordered the Pork Bianca pizza, the porcini pasta, and the duck pasta. The pizza was definitely the highlight. It had a sweet, tangy, citrusy flavor that caught me off guard at first, but it ended up being really enjoyable. The pasta portions, however, were quite small. The porcini pasta tasted a little too sour for my liking, and the flavors felt unbalanced. The duck pasta was unfortunately pretty bland and didn't leave much of an impression. The service also fell short. A server in a blue dress with braids cleared one of our plates without asking if we were finished, even though there was still food left on it, which made the interaction feel awkward. She was not pleasant. Later, when it was time to pay, she simply tapped our card, processed the payment, and walked away without saying a word or acknowledging us. Overall, the service felt impersonal and a bit strange.
Beloved restaurant that is known for their pasta. This restaurant is located in the Mission area of SF. I was in the city with some family and we were trying to get something to eat before we went over to a concert pretty close by at the Chase center. We actually made reservations to a different restaurant, but my brother and sister-in-law wanted to check out the wait. We were able to get seated within five minutes and we canceled the other reservation because I was told that it is notoriously hard to get a reservation here. We ordered a few things to share, including the ricotta, arancini, and chicories to start. We ordered a pizza and a couple of the pastas as well. I can't remember exactly which pizza we ordered, but I think it was the amatriciana. For the pastas we ordered the duck casoncelli and the taleggio scarpinocc. Both pastas and pizza were all beautifully presented and delicious. Just a great meal all around. The service here was very attentive and helpful as well. The interior of this restaurant is serene and upscale and the vibe is pretty chill here. I can see why people love this restaurant so much

Went with 3 others and shared the following dishes. Josey Baker sourdough and cultured parm butter. Warm bread, nice crust, and butter was really good. Todays Ricotta with honeycomb, Sicilian olive oil, and sourdough tigelle was excellent. Creamy and fresh with the warm tigelle serving as the perfect vehicle. The Koshihikari arancini was probably the table favorite. Crispy, cheesy, and packed with flavor from the smoked mozzarella, eggplant, and basil. Pole Beans As I've said before, if burrata is on the menu, I'm probably ordering it. Fresh beans and The burrata, smoked tomato, and miso bagna cauda worked really well together. Margherita pizza. Great fresh ingredients, plenty of flavor, and a beautifully charred crust. The center was a really soggy surprising for a place well known for its pizza. Now for the Pastas... Corn Cappelletti Sweet corn, blueberry, brown butter, ricotta salata, and Fresno chili. An unexpected combination that somehow worked perfectly. This was the groups favorite. Porcini Gnocchetti Sardi As a lover of all things porcini, this was my favorite dish of the night. Rich mushroom ragù, perfectly cooked pasta, and deep earthy flavors. Rainbow Scarpinocc Our server mentioned this is one of Flour + Water's signature dishes, so we had to try it. The taleggio, balsamic, and parmigiano was rich and comforting Overall, a really solid meal and a place I'd happily return to. Service was attentive throughout the evening, and our server did a great job guiding us through both the food and wine list.

Definitely make a reservation here because it instantly fills up! They have a set menu and à la carte. Everything we tried was amazing; our favorites were the seasonal corn pasta, pate appetizer, and pork sausage pizza! The pizza here is one of my favorite crusts ever (really fresh and bouncy, chewy texture). It's a modern fun spot great for dates or casual hangs. Will definitely be back to try more!
This was my first time here celebrating my sister in law's boyfriend's birthday, and the food here was awesome. Vibes were great, our servers were amazing, food was so flavorful and great combinations. Sourdough: 7/10 Ricotta: 8.5/10 Amberjack Crudo: 10/10 Veal Carne Cruda: 10/10 Patata Bianca: 8/10 Carrot Agnolotti: 15/10 Porcini Gnocchi Sardi: 7.5/10 Seaweed Chittara: 8/10 Duck Casoncelli: 8.5/10 Please do yourself a favor and get the ricotta, both crudo and cruda, and the agnolotti. That was the most surprising and mind blowing. I'd eat 3 portions myself. Our moscato was also so so good. I'd love to come back.

Here is what we ordered: Balsamic Pasta: Perfectly prepared and incredibly flavorful. Margherita Pizza: A classic done exactly right. What really set the night apart was the service, it was simply the best. We were celebrating our anniversary, and the staff kindly brought out a complimentary dessert to celebrate. I have to give a massive shoutout to that Strawberry Sorbetto, which deserves all the praise. It hit every single flavor note perfectly: sweet, salty, creamy, and acidic. Just so good. A fantastic dinner with top-tier service and cozy ambiance. Highly recommended if you can grab a table!
Arrived 15 mins before their 5pm opening on a Thursday evening and we were the first ones to be seated. They were only doing bar seating for walk-ins when I arrived. We shared the sourdough and butter, today's ricotta, pappardelle, and taleggio scarpinocc. The sourdough and butter wasn't bad, the sourdough was on the tougher side but the butter was delicious. Today's ricotta was fantastic - the ricotta and honeycomb were delicious and went so well with the sourdough tigelle which looked and tasted like tiny English muffins. The honeycomb was my favorite part. The pappardelle was pretty good, the pasta itself was fresh but the dish was overall on the oily side. Taleggio scarpinocc was creamy and pretty good but wish it had more flavor depth to it overall as it was just cheese and some balsamic glaze. Service was 10/10. Ambiance was amazing and vibes were great. read more
I was pretty excited to try this spot out since my boss mentioned it a while back and he dines out a lot. We got the tasting menu and it came with a variety of everything. While serving time was decent between each course, I found that I couldn't get into the food. Most of the dishes were salty, particularly the consumme. The menu and spot is not child friendly because there wasn't much that we could share with our baby girl. Also, none of the dishes really stood out to me. It's super busy and can be quite cramped. Best to get a babysitter and make it a date night instead. read more
Flour + Water tasting menu was amazing, better than some of the fine dining we've had recently. There were very few misses (only 2 dishes I didn't love as much), and the only thing I felt a bit iffy about was the 6.5% mandate fee. Service was good, the summer squash sformato was INCREDIBLE (we love cream, and this cream was so well done- perfectly melted into the potatoes and cheese), and the seaweed corzetti also surprised me with how good it was! I don't usually like pasta, but I could tell that every single pasta dish was terrific and unique. Pork belly and scallop was the only dish that missed the mark a tad, since it was a bit too salty and tough. Other than that, terrific experience. Would definitely come back! read more

I had high expectations for this place from what I had heard about Flour + Water but I thought this place was simply okay. They are connected to one another, but I did not realize that one side is the restaurant and the other side is a pizzeria/takeout which is the side that I walked through and when I tried to order, the lady told me that I should probably eat on the other side instead, but there were seats in the pizzeria area and the beer was like a dollar or two cheaper on the pizzeria side. She did mention that it's typically more for takeout or if we want single slices so I guess it made sense for us to eat on the restaurant side? With the natural lighting, the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. I think I was here around like 3 PM so I was seated immediately. I don't remember the actual name for it, but we got the meat lovers pizza and I don't know, it was good but I think what threw me off was the sausage that was in it I forgot what it's technically called. And the waiter did come and ask if we wanted Parmesan we said yes he stepped away and never came back, but I get it sometimes things pop up and you forget, but I'm not gonna lie, I was a little salty that he gave his attention to the table behind me because they got their Parmesan immediately. I'm assuming they have different menus because they didn't have any pasta option during the late afternoon which I wish I got to try. Will I be back? That's to be determined. read more
We went to Flour + Water with sort of high expectations, but overall the food was good but slightly a bit underwhelming. I really enjoyed the gnocchi, and the portion sizes were larger than expected. The pizzas were also really good! The dough was chewy and perfectly baked. I just wish they had crushed pepper! There were 5 of us and our server recommended ordering 12-14 dishes. That felt like a lot, so we settled on 10 dishes (the menu is also small so we had to double up on some orders) but even that ended up being way too much food. We had a ton of leftovers, so I'd suggest ordering more conservatively and adding on if needed rather than strictly following that recommendation. We were a bit disappointed by that guidance as we could've saved some money and didn't have to double up on items. I'd definitely come back for the pizza and gnocchi, but I'm not sure I'd return specifically for the other pastas! read more
Wishing that I came here for not whatever menu they were having this month~ My friend and I came around 7pm on a Wednesday and got seated right away. The restaurant was full but thankfully, there was a table open for a hour before the next reservation. We had split the Smoked Pork Agnolotti (3.25/5 the waitress told us to dip the pizza crust into this sauce and that was a great recc! the pasta itself was alright), Amatriciana pizza (3/5 definitely better with the extra chilis that I asked for but wasn't anything special, and the Date cake (3.5/5 never have I ever had a date cake but it was an unique dessert & on the denser side but perfectly sweet for me). Overall, I probably wouldn't go out of my way for this. read more
Flour and water has really great pastas and a nice ambiance! Have tried a wide range of their pastas and really enjoyed all of them. Can be difficult to get a reservation and tables are quite close together inside. A little pricey but worth it for the taste of the food! read more

Not bad but also not blown away. I've had Flour + Water bookmarked for years before finally being able to try it a few weeks ago. Came with some coworkers on a weekday, and my coworker made reservations ahead of time. We got the tasting menu because we all had decision fatigue. Overall, some of the dishes were quite salty. I did enjoy the crab pasta dish, and the starters/appetizers. It was just the right amount of food in my opinion. If I'm in the area, would give it another try but probably pass on the tasting menu. Good vibes inside though and would be good for a date night! read more
was decent! got four dishes... margherita pizza: 8/10 not the biggest fan of floppier dough but the flavor was pretty good. specifically the cheese + marinara was nice rainbow scarpinocc: 7/10 i love balsamic so that sauce carried (although there wasn't much of it). the rainbow dye for pride month was fun. think it would be nice if the pasta had more filling. porchino gnocchetti sardi: 6/10 think i just am not the biggest fan of a mushroom sauce. otherwise it was pretty unique. breadcrumbs add a nice crunch. pizza #2: 7.5/10 sadly do not remember the name of this one and it's not on the menu anymore rip. but nice flavors. was originally with meat but they made it vegetarian for us. also got the "today's ricotta" as a starter. was mid. just dough balls served with ricotta and honey. service was great!! they were all really nice and helpful. read more
I've had Flour + Water bookmarked for years, and the American Express Platinum quarterly dining credit finally gave me the push to try it. A close friend had highly recommended it, so my expectations were high. Service & Ambiance: 5/5 The service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and professional throughout the meal. Plates and utensils were changed after each course, the table stayed spotless, and complimentary still or sparkling water was offered, which is rare these days. The restaurant itself is clean, chic, and comfortable, and parking was not too difficult. From ambiance to service, Flour + Water absolutely delivers. Food: Mixed Overall, the food was above average but not particularly memorable. We skipped the $139 per person pasta tasting menu and ordered à la carte instead, sharing eight dishes among four people. Portion sizes for appetizers were small, confirming the server's advice to order generously. Appetizers: * Yellowfin Tuna: Too salty and overly citrusy. 1/5 * Veal Carne Cruda: The standout of the night. I would order this again. 5/5 * Ricotta: Pleasant, but the sourdough fell flat. 4/5 Pizza: * Margherita: Just okay. I'm not sure I understand the Flour + Water hype. The food is okay, the service is underwhelming, and restaurant layout is a bit tight and narrow. Most of the dishes we ordered missed the mark for me and were unmemorable (e.g. amberjack crudo, amatriciana pizza, taleggio scarpinocc). The duck breast was the star of the show and saved the entire meal - if there is one thing you must order here it is the duck breast. read more
We truly wanted to enjoy our experience at flower and water. We had a reservation well in advance for a special occasion. To start off, the hostess at the front was very kind and seated us as fast as she could even though our table at the reserved time was not yet ready. Service: Our waiter was a little bit odd and felt like he was pushing us to order very quickly. When we asked about options on the menu, he was curt but tried to explain as he could. throughout the course of our meal, we repeatedly asked for water and were not given water. We also askEd someone to take our picture three times and finally somebody came over. Unfortunately, he took a very sloppy photo (he took it very quickly like he was in a rush and did not put in the to make sure it was a good photo.) It just felt like overall we were not welcomed at the restaurant and we repeatedly felt like rushed out to quickly eat and leave. Food: Get this: The pizza was delicious and crust was very chewy/doughy with squash On top that was creamy and decadent. Squid ink cavatelli and duck ravioli were both tasty. Perfect pasta, textures, and just the right amount of flavor. Decent: The arancini were pretty tasty, little fried dough balls- what is not to like. Skip: Matsutake carpaccio: the thin mushroom slices were not filling at all, and the cream was a little bit tangy, the flavors did not unify well together Swordfish was way too salty -- we wanted to send it back, but felt too uncomfortable. Came here for my birthday and it was so good! We sat at the bar and had the tasting course with the wine pairing. Absolutely loved it and would highly recommend. The journey that the tasting course took us on was wonderful and hit all the salt, acid, and light heat notes in your pallet. Additionally, the wine pairings made sense and complimented each dish. The servers were amazing and lovely. Although it is expensive, just know sometimes the servers may or may not pour with a heavy hand so you are more than likely going to feel like you're getting your moneys worth. The vibe at the bar seating was active and we personally like to see a peak of the behind the scenes at restaurants. Overall, would highly recommend if you have the disposable income or have an occasion you'd like to celebrate. This to me is a fine dining must stop. read more

Finally managed to get a reasonably timed reservation for a standard table on a Sunday night. Beautiful restaurant with lovely ambiance, and beautiful ceiling and lights! All the servers were so kind and friendly - we can for a birthday and everyone said happy birthday multiple times it was super thoughtful. The reviews were mixed but we were very excited to come and so glad we did we loved all the food! We had between two people 2 starters 3 pastas (one for vegetarian and two for meat eater) The arancini was so tasty and went well with the order of house made ricotta and the bread. The ricotta and honey comb were so perfect together. For the vegetarian pasta I had the carbonara, such a fun pasta shape with a hole in the middle - paired with the house hot sauce it was perfect! For the meat we had the squid ink - bright aromatic and a lovely chew from the shape. The other was the 5 spice duck ravioli which was bold, flavourful, and blended Asian and Italian flavours! All pastas were cooked perfectly not too hard and not over cooked. We had wine and a spritz. Thanks again for a great time we found our favourite pasta restaurant and will be back for sure. read more
I was so excited to finally try Flour + Water after snagging a reservation for Saturday night dinner. I came with a friend and we ordered an app and a couple of pasta entrees to try. For food we shared the: - Heirloom tomato: Absolutely delicious! Always great when in season but the way they served it with a ton of shaved parm and pine nuts, there was so much umami and it felt like the perfect way to start the meal - Black pepper bucatini: With lobster and smoked carbonara, this felt really lucious, especially with the egg yolk on top. Great to share with someone else to indulge on this - Basil garganelli: Really great basil pasta with pork sugo, chili and shaved parm. Great flavor without being too rich or heavy. A good choice if you want a lighter, brighter protein pasta dish Finally, although we were full, we couldn't resist trying the olive oil cake after seeing a nearby table order the delicious looking dessert. The cake was topped with whipped mascarpone, strawberry, and coconut. Such a nice dessert to share that didn't feel too heavy or sweet so it was perfect for my liking! Flour + Water for me definitely lived up to the hype! The pasta is perfectly al dente and the flavor combinations are so yummy! Great for a special occasion or Sunday supper. The food & wine here are fantastic, but some of the staff were unnecessarily rude and short with us. I came here for a small birthday celebration. Upon checking in, the hostess told us that they'd be able to bring a dessert out and sing a song for the birthday person. My party ordered a few salads, pizzas, and pastas which were all very good, and our server recommended a very good natural wine that paired well with the food that we got. We had absolutely no complaints about the food, and were having a good time until the very end. Upon receiving the dessert menu, we asked an employee who was not our server about the dessert + song, which we initially thought were complementary from our initial conversation with the hostess. Apparently we misunderstood what the hostess had told us, as the employee let us know that they would only bring out a dessert and sing a song if we order & pay for the dessert. However, the employee was very rude to us when we were trying to clarify this. The conversation lasted about a minute, and our group was treated with sarcasm and outright dismissiveness by this employee. This is not at all how you should be clarifying a customer's misunderstanding with them. read more

10/10 pasta!! The balsamic pasta here gets a lot of hype but it was my least favorite of them all! We got all vegetarian pastas and the seasonal mushroom and pumpkin ones were our favorite. The apps and desserts were good as well but the pastas were the stars of the show. Definitely recommend going with a bigger group so you can try everything! read more

We made a reservation a few weeks in advance and were seated immediately when we arrived. Friendly and fairly quick service. We started with Today's Ricotta and the mushroom Arancini. My personal favorite was the sourdough and ricotta. It was so soft in the middle. I especially enjoyed the honeycomb with it. Felt very simple but so good. Arancini was crispy on the outside and had a dense, creamy filling on the inside. The green sauce it was served complimented the dish very well. For pasta, we got the Taleggio Scarpinocc, Black Pepper Bucatini and the 5 Spice Duck Raviolini. The Taleggio Scarpinocc did indeed live up to the hype - I would come back just for this. Super rich and flavorful and fun to eat. The balsamic on top was the perfect touch in my opinion. I also liked the duck raviolini, although there was very little duck filling in it. It had bits of pluots on top which I thought was very unique and yummy. The bucatini was pretty good too. Creamy carbonara sauce and not too much pepper. Had the chocolate budino for dessert and definitely do not regret it. It was very rich and fudgy. All the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. In terms of portions, it is on the smaller side. Came as a walk in right when they opened and was able to be seated right away. It was the first day of SF Restaurant week, and I was so excited to try such a legendary establishment thru their tasting menu. For $90 you get to try 7 of their biggest hits! I sat at the low bar and was very happy with the service received. There was lots of guidance when needed for ordering wine and we were never without a water refill! The timing of the dishes could have been a bit better but then again, who doesn't want the next plate coming asap haha! My absolute favorite dish was the Taleggio Scarpinocc and the Tortellini in Brodo. Every dish was full of fresh ingredients and beautiful construction. read more

I think that we were more prepared for the pasta textures this time. So we had a way better experience. This is not a soft pasta place. The textures are more on the al dente side. We were part of the early bird crowd so we were seated immediately. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. We were seated by a warm window with great people watching and since we went early the noise level was very low. The summer lettuces were punchy and crisp: tahini vinaigrette, pecorino sardo, toasted sesame. We loved. The two pasta that we got, taleggio scarpinocc seemed to be a staple and was tasty with the aceto balsamico. The porcini gnocchetti sardi is a seasonal pasta with mushroom ragú, spring onion, caciotti was crunch and warm and hearty. We end with the corn ice cream in a waffle cone with toasted marshmallow. Chefs kiss! I also enjoyed the bathrooms with reusable towels to dry your hands v paper towels. Glad that we share the neighborhood with this delicious pasta spot. read more
We put our names on the waitlist on a Saturday night. The wait took about 1 hour and 45 minutes and we sat at the community table. Let me just say the person helping us at the host stand was amazing. Super helpful and kept us updated over text. The food was very yummy. Pricey but high quality. My only complain was that I was still hungry after dinner. But otherwise was a very good meal. read more
We had a reservation for 5pm on a Friday and when we got there around 5:10pm (they have a 15 min grace period) after looking for parking, the restaurant was already quite full. Granted there's not a lot of seating available. Everything we ordered was so good. Would reorder everything again if we get the chance to come back! Starter: Today's ricotta $17 - the bread was sourdough, inside was so soft Pizza: Pomodoro pizza $29 - so good!! Def give it a try. It was so juicy. We also asked for some honey on the side to dip our crust into (something we learned from a restaurant in Canada). Pasta: Taleggio scarpinocc $30 - super simple ingredients but saw so many people ordering on the reviews that I had to try it. It was so yummy! I would say each dish is about 1/3 the size of a normal pasta entree. You should be full after the entire course.

It is delicious! Reservations aren't too difficult any more. Pretty easy for a party if 4 for dinner on a weekday.
