Sometimes older water heaters spring a leak and flood the basement…read more Yes, that happened to me (ahem, mumble...over a year ago), and this week seemed the perfect time to install new pad and re-lay the carpet, which thankfully did survive. I was referred, by a local carpet shop, to the Carpet Fixer. One friendly phone call brought a guy to my door just a few hours later for a free quote. It only took a few minutes, the price seemed reasonable and an appointment was scheduled for the next day, even though they mentioned they are usually around 2 days out. Our 'carpet laying technician", I'm assuming that is the technical title, was supposed to come between 11-1 & still wasn't there by 1:20. Their SOP is to call when on their way, and I understand that things don't always go as planned, but I wish someone would have called to let me know he was running late.... However, another quick call to the office gave a revised ETA of 2pm and they did make that. Luckily our day was pretty open so we didn't care much. I didn't talk directly with the guy/guys, as I was playing 'keep the dog from licking the nice people's faces off" in the other room, but I am very happy with the results. All in all, I would definitely recommend them and use them again in the future (although I really hope that occasion will not arise).

When we called to make the appointment, we were told that he would pull the carpet up and then we would have to fix the squeak and then they would relay the carpet, which was fine with us. Yes return policy isn't as loose, but still saved so much for a far better product. I won't speak volumes to their in house installers as we had our own contractor do it, but we couldn't be happier. The floor plank is thicker, has a better rubber underside, thicker laminate so tougher more scratch resistant. Far heavier and denser. And something we didn't expect, it's also far more sound absorbing. We used to have tile and you could hear the footsteps downstairs a LOT more before. This seems to not resonate sound as much, i'm assuming because of the density and rubber pad underneath. I think we are good on laminate floor for likely decades, but we throw a lot of referrals their way, wouldn't recommend anyone else!
