My feeling is that the brands here are limited. I looked up a brand of flooring they recommended and it was a lower end brand probably made in China. That may be just fine but I am also weary about off-gassing. Where the product is made and where the materials come from does matter to me. I'm currently looking at online venders where products come from Sweden that actually end up being similarly priced with very little off-gassing and is sustainable. I found some good contractors off Angi online and will be overseeing the project myself. While the quote given to me was reasonable (9500) for the first floor of my home, I would feel more comfortable having more choices in the material that I walk on and breath in everyday.

Julian was prompt in responding initially and very friendly throughout our communications, which made me feel confident going in. However, the installation experience itself left something to be desired. Julian never visited the job site, not during the work and not to inspect the final result. The installation was handled by his father, Joel, who brought along whoever was available each day. Day one, his brother filled in because Joel's son couldn't make it. Day two, the son showed up. While I understand that staffing can be flexible, it did feel a bit inconsistent. That said, I appreciated the fact that the job was scheduled fairly quickly and only took a couple of days. As for the work itself, there were a few things that weren't quite right. Tidiness was an issue. Joel and his crew left behind random pieces of garbage (including a soda can) and left smudges on door frames and doors that had been removed and rehung during installation. The final cleanup also fell short: despite vacuuming, a noticeable amount of carpet debris was left behind. One thing worth noting for anyone considering this business: I specifically chose this carpet in part because of the manufacturer's warranty. To have that warranty honored if I ever need it, I need proof of purchase, which should be a basic expectation after any transaction. It took me nearly a month of chasing Julian just to receive an invoice and receipt. That alone was a frustrating and unnecessary ordeal. A couple of weeks after installation, a corner of carpet on an exposed step was lifting up completely, clearly never properly secured. To his credit, Julian responded quickly and sent Joel out to fix it, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of it. More recently I noticed that the few carpeted steps we have show signs of the carpet bowing out along the front face, as if it was never properly attached to begin with. You can press on the area and visibly see it caving in. I first reached out to Julian about this on February 9th. He said he'd check with "his guy" on availability, and then I heard nothing for 10 days, at which point he asked for a photo. I sent both a photo and a video clearly demonstrating the problem. No response. I followed up again on the 21st, and the next day he assured me he hadn't forgotten about me. It is now March 15th, and I still have not heard back. At this point, I have little confidence that anything will be done to resolve it. The price was genuinely attractive, and I wish I could recommend JN Tile, but a discount means nothing when the installation is botched and follow-through on fixing it falls apart. I very much wish I had gone with the other provider. The difference in cost simply isn't worth it.

There were a few spots where the hardwood was decaying. I've heard that this flooring (5/16 x 2 in hardwood) can be difficult to remove in sections without damaging the areas around them, and can result in awkward patches that look noticeably different. But he did it so well that we couldn't tell where the old hardwood stopped and the new one began. He also worked with us to figure out what kind of stains worked best for our home and created a few samples on our actual hardwood. Not only that, but I stupidly messed up the stain on one section by dropping some cleaning chemicals on it before it fully cured, and he came back and refinished the section. He did this while refusing extra fees and on a short timeline (we wanted to move into the house). Even after the project, he's been extremely helpful in helping me understand how to care for my floors and advising on other projects. I've never met a contractor that is so professional and generous with his knowledge. He also came in as the middle quote out of the contractors that provided estimates. Worth every penny and more. Overall in terms of quality, speed, communication, cost, and professionalism, Thach cannot be beat.

Empire did not put a moisture barrier which caused our floors to buckle throughout the house. PDF wrote me a letter to get an investigation open with Empire Floors and we are receiving new flooring at no cost thanks to PDF. FYI ..around $15k worth of flooring.
