I've gone to Float Labs twice. I wish I could go more but Venice is just too far from where I live. Just kidding, it's not that far, but it sucks with LA traffic! Anyway, it's awesome. Why is it awesome? You go inside a room butt naked by yourself, you take a nice shower and you clean yourself up. From there, you go inside this big ass refrigerator with earplugs on and you lay there. You lay there with your own thoughts and the only thing that matters in that tank is YOURSELF. All the bullshit, all the external crap, GONE. You're in there for 2 hours, and it does take time for you to ease a bit if it's your first time. It's not for everyone, but if you just lay still, and let your thoughts drift - it's a great experience. read more

I Look forward every time I come here and am again looking forward to my next Float next time i visit Los Angeles. He has the BEST system I have EVER experienced. Someday I will Buy a Custom Made unit: 10 feet long, 7 feet tall and 8 feet wide. I understand it'd cost me $45-50,000 though it would be worth every cent! SIX Months ago, I had a severe injury (6 months ago today: Oct 9th 2013), I experienced 5 fractures to Spinal vertebrae; never could I image that my injuries included a 'Broken' Neck and shattered Back after I was catapulted off a Mountain bike as my rear brakes failed. It happened in a 'Fleeting Moment' as I was attempting to slow down thebicycle as it kept accelerating while riding going down hill. It was about 9:20am and was on my way to our front gate 750-800 meters/yards away from where I started (the house). Once I awoke as I gasped for breath I was on my back and didn't know what happened. apparently both lungs also collapsed. I had only rode about 300 meters, I screamed for help though realized the 2 others on the property were unable to hear me. After I rolled over (with severe pain) I attempted to do a push up to get up; though an Incredible "Out of this world" Pain went through my back/upper torso. I felt guided to simply roll back to my back and Relax, then practiced different meditations including "Pranayama" breathing techniques to relax and slow my breath. I am really so cheerful I learned these breath technology and never could have imagined when I originally learned these meditation tools would contribute to preserving and saving my life. Over 7 hours had passed with Full daylight shining down; had a 2nd degree sunburn with a 5 inch cut/laceration on my Right shin; I realized later my shin had scrapped across the handlebars slicing/pealing/ripping the Skin/flesh off... down to my tibia bone. My rescuer, Pedro, had no idea i was alive still, he didn't attempt to verify his suspicion that I was "certainly Dead", he looked at me; knew I was missing for hours and guessed I had Died. As Pedro was "Breaking the news" to our friend, the land owner; just as the owner said: "Pedro, Why don't you Poke him with a Stick!" I spoke in Pedro's native language of spanish and requested his help. 3 days later I awoke in the critical ICU 280 miles away) told I 'required' surgery to 'Stabilize' a Compression BURST fracture to my Thoracic vertebrae #8 that had been crushed. I refused surgery, repeatedly. Looking back to how 'Michael Hutchinson' had sent me an email about 10 years ago, he wrote that the Floatation tank experiences prepared him for "what it felt like to not 'Feel his body' after he Broke his neck" after a slippery fall into a rocky creek on a cold morning near his home. Michael stated how his 'training' in a Floatation tank; it trained his subconscious how to respond. Never could I have ever imagined that I would now say: I relate. My doctors initially said that it's a Miracle I didn't go into shock, then they said it's a Miracle I can Walk. Now every doctor that reviews my medical details tells me I have had a 'Miraculous' recovery, and am Very Lucky! :D I simply say, I am Blessed. ;) :) Now I am engaged with creating a book on my experience plus currently creating Online resources to share in depth details of resources and various treatments and supportive supplements I have used for my own needs. Heard of this place after listening to The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. I found it very difficult to breathe in because it was very humid. In the beginning instead of me trying to relax and go to that special place in my head I found myself focusing on my breathing. I also did not get the full effects of sensory deprivation because every now and then my toes would slightly touch the walls of the tank and interrupt my session. After about an hour in the tank I did manage to fall asleep for about 20 minutes which felt really good. If It was not humid and more spacious I can see it being very relaxingthroughout the entire session, after the two hours when I exited I did feel somewhat refreshed but was not as as advertised by Joe Rogan. If I had the $ and space I would however get me one as I believe there are health benefits. read more

This is the top flotation center in the country because of the high-end custom float tanks that the owner, 'Crash', created. They are so much better than any Samadhi tanks it's like they are Ferraris when everyone else has a Toyota. Have you ever had the desire to experience complete weightlessness in the state of present consciousness, deep expansion and complete relaxation? This place is a lot cheaper than most and now I can see why. The tank reeked of mildew/mold!Temperature regulation was very poor- it was cool water in most of the tank but warm near the edges. The facility itself is not very nice. The pictures on the website are not of this location. This location is a few business units in a complex on the beach. There's no reception desk just a dirty concrete room that the attendant sits in. The only bathroom is like a typical dirty gas station bathroom that you have to leave the building to get to! I at least expected there to be one near the shower. Speaking of the shower- the hot water is very spotty. I had to get out of the shower after a few minutes because it got cold. I will definitely pay the money to go to a nicer place next time. read more

Had an appointment on a Sunday afternoon and enjoyed every part of it. All you need to bring is $40 CASH; everything else is provided: earplugs, shower, towel, soap, shampoo, etc. it took about 15-20 mins for my brain to really let go. The rest of my time in the tank was spent in and out of this world! It became difficult to tell if I was asleep or awake, if my eyes were open or closed. My mind was searching for something to see, so I would routinely catch flashes of light or shapes floating by. Moving my limbs around and gliding a few inches in the tank felt like I was moving 10 feet. Amazing. Crawling out of the tank and back out onto the Venice boardwalk felt like walking on another planet. Jared was awesome with all the preparation and I can't wait to go back! read more

where do i begin. my bf heard about this on a joe rogan podcast and told me about it. i thought it was interesting so we looked into it. found out this place was only $40 for a 2 hour session, so i called right away to make an appointment for the both of us. called and spoke to "Crash" and i wanted to do a saturday session but the earliest one they had available was 1 month out, which actually happened to be valentines weekend so i went ahead and booked it, figured we could just make it a valentines weekend adventure. our appointment was at 11am saturday morning. we arrived in Venice around 10:30AM, and because the location is right by the beach, street parking was hard to find by that time. but luckily we were able to find free street parking about 2 blocks away. the place isnt really hard to find since it is right on the beach. it's an office suite inside a two story building. we were a little early, when we arrived Crash was still setting everything up. when you walk in, you can immediately smell the salt n the air. there are three rooms; the lobby and two tank rooms. each room has its own shower and tank. one has soft padding on the floor the other one does not. Crash gives the soft padding room to the girls :) there are community bathrooms (for the patrons of the entire office building). you just get the keys from Crash. USE the bathroom prior to your session....2 hours is a long time. before going into the tank, Crash will explain what you need to know about the epsom salt he uses and the whole experience. he's a fast talker....so pay attention!!! so basically you go in, shower and rinse off. put the provided ear plugs in and get in the tank (he will tell you which way to get in), close the tank door and just float in body temperature water. now, for me, i had a hard time getting into a comfortable floating position. my upper back was REALLY hurting because i think i was too tense. you really have to just relax when you lay there. because of the amount of salt in the water...you WILL NOT go under water. i tilted by head back a little more which lessened the tension on my back. my BF said he put his arms above his head which helped him, but i didnt even think of that. i just let me arms float beside me. the first 20-30 minutes, i just laid there waiting.....waiting for something to happen. about 30 minutes in, my ears completely clogged up (because your ears are under water) and i could no longer hear anything. no sight, no sound. and honestly that was when i kind of freaked out a little bit. but i tried not to...i just floated and tried to relax. i tried not to think but your mind is filled with so many things in your life that you will think about it. i probably thought about 50 different things happening in my life just laying there in the dark. but after awhile, i felt like i might have dosed off a bit. what kept waking me up and realizing i was floating in a tank of water was my body kept making that jerk movement that it does when you are just about to fall into deep sleep. you really have no sense of time while you are in there. the tank is so dark that i couldnt distinguish whether my eyes were open or not. at one point, my mind was picturing my body swaying side to side and in a delayed reaction, my body was actually swaying side to side.....or was it? i dont know, but it sure felt like it was. i had an itch on my face and i reluctantly raised my arm to scratch it but even lifting the arm felt like i was in space or something. towards the end, i must have dozed off because i was woken up by the sound of 3 thumps....and then silence. then i freaked out and got up. when i opened the tank door, i heard my bf's shower was on next door and i called out to see if he was done already, he had just finished up right before me. apparently, Crash is suppose to come back to the suite to let us know when time was up but we both got out just a little bit earlier. so i jumped in the showered and made sure to rinse out my ears completely and got dressed. ladies, remember to bring your hair gadgets (straightener, blow dryer) so you dont walk around with wet hair afterwards. there are outlets in the bathroom. the whole experience was really different. i think being my first time, i was a little timid because of the fear of the unknown. but both my bf and i talked about it a lot after our session and came to the conclusion that we're going back for more! everything i've read says that to get the full experience, you have to do it at least 2-3 times....so we're definitely ready for more! this place isnt a spa, it is what it is, a place where you go and float in a tank of pure darkness and silence and learn to meditate. quick tips: 1. call and book ahead of time (especially for weekends) 2. do some research on what this is and what to expect 3. bring cash 4. dont wear your contacts when you float (he does provide contact case and solution if you forget your own) 5. relax! read more

I will not come to this place because the person who answered the phone was very rude and dismissive. He answered "Float lab" and he sounded like he hated me for calling. I simply asked if there were any openings for the weekend and he acted as if I was an idiot for asking. He had a total "Duh, of course not you idiot" sound to his voice. He didn't say anything else so I asked for the earliest opening and he sighed loudly in my ear and said "hold on for a second" Sounding like he couldn't be bothered by a potential customer. I did not wait for a second because these bad vibes will only infiltrate my experience there. Very disappointed. I was looking forward to this. I was looking for all the details in advance of going, so hopefully this will be helpful to you: 1. It's on the boardwalk, but the storefront isn't--pay attention to the building numbers, or you'll walk back and forth like I did. 2. Crash--the dude who runs the joint--isn't the most friendly (even though other reviews say otherwise). He will, however, give you the rundown before you go in--just make sure to listen clearly, because he is a fast talker. Also make sure to let him know how long you are planning on going in for. In my case, it was two hours. Apparently he has left 3. They provide ear plugs (though bring your own--the quality is rather poor), towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. 4. Once you're briefed, you'll be led into one of two rooms. Each room has the float vault and a shower. Bottom line: there's plenty of privacy. I was concerned about that, but it's a non-issue. 5. You enter the vault without any clothes. I'd also take off any jewelry--don't wanna risk the salt solution messing it up. 6. Make sure you close the door tightly--it doesn't lock or anything, but you don't want light coming in. 7. If you stand or sit up at any point, don't forget to dry your face (Crash will leave a hand towel in the vault for you). You don't want the solution to get in your eyes. 8. When the time is up, Crash will knock and let you know. On the floating experience: I was disappointed, to be honest. I couldn't get out of my head. This is no fault of the establishment--I just couldn't get into it. I was also feeling sore throughout the float--like I couldn't find the right position and hold it forever. There is no parking as this is right on Venice Boardwalk. There are no instructions on how to find the front door to this place so arrive early. Parking is a whopping $15, but I asked if I could pay $10 for the 2 hrs. The guy who gave us instructions was rote with his delivery - really should be a video as he is obviously tired of this schpeal. Once inside, you are in a sensory deprivation tank, naked and floating for 2 hrs. I meditate, so this was nothing new or life expanding for me. I kept wanting it to be, but nothing to make me want to do it again when I can reach this state- dry sitting at home. Showered and...ladies take time! It's hard to dress with the humidity & shower quickly! and the guy was asking when I was coming out since there was someone else coming - so I hurried and he rushed past me, without a 'bye or thanks or nada. I've floated elsewhere, but Float Lab is by far the best. Other places charge nearly twice as much for half as much time and limit you to one hour. Float Lab lets you stay in for up to 2 hours for $40. I personally have a lot of trouble quieting my mind, so when I've attempted one hour saltwater bath floats in the past as a type of forced meditation, I've struggled to fully relax within the given time frame. Being aware of the hour time limit actually makes me somewhat anxious and especially in the fancier chambers with music and light options, I find myself toggling buttons in a desperate effort to settle in. I'd heard great things about sensory deprivation float therapy, but it wasn't until after my first hour into my experience at Float Lab, that I finally "got" it. After the first 45 minutes in total darkness and soundlessness (there are no fancy buttons to toggle in the Float Lab chamber), I thought, "I'm bored. Maybe I'll hop out early, go home, be productive, and take care of all the things I have to do today." But I forced myself to stick it out a bit longer and I'm so glad I did. I entered this beautifully vivid lucid dream-like state, my body felt utterly relaxed and supported by the salt water as if a mattress had molded to my body, and by the end all my stresses were gone. Crash, the guy who works there, is clearly passionate about what he does and the experience was great all around. One thing though -- I suggest bringing your own lotion. Float Lab provides a nice smelling soap, conditioner, and shampoo; and It would be nice if they also provided some lotion, but since they don't, I'd recommend bringing some of your own because the salt water can dry out your skin. read more

I recommend that everyone try this at least once in their lives - unless you're claustrophobic, afraid of the dark, or have a condition like PTSD. I tried to get my ex-boyfriend to try it but he has PTSD and darkness and being shut in small quarters is traumatizing. Anyway, it's a great way to relax OR meditate. Of course most people meditate and it's a spiritual experience. YouTube "The Sensory Deprivation Tank - Joe Rogan" to learn a little more about floating in the spiritual sense. Price here is great and location is alright. After my 2 hour float, I was SOOO relaxed and since it was in Venice, I decided to walk around a bit.. Bad idea! The Venice Beach boardwalk is not the most peaceful place so I had to leave at once. I needed to retain my tranquility lol. Don't get me wrong, I love Venice BUT the ambiance of the beach after a float wasn't what I wanted at the time. Try it!! :) It's not as weird as it sounds. It was alright. The air flow was low as previously stated by another reviewer. But in all fairness my nasal passages are small so it's equivalent to sitting in a sauna. After 45 min the air got cooler and the water cooled too making it to cold to be in. I would have liked more water in the tank as it was pretty low, (12inches) -And a slightly larger tank so I could move around in it. Tbh I've gotten the same effect from floating in a jacuzzi, at least that was warmer though and I enjoyed that more. What I did like was that I had an old shoulder injury and the buoyancy allowed my shoulder to be supported as I rotated my arm around, that alone would bring me back but I'd try the westwood location since they have deals and more rooms plus nicer decor. The owner left me in the place on my own which I appreciate the privacy and I pretty much had the whole place to myself. If you have any cuts or nicks beware it will lightly burn even with the petroleum jelly. And I was very nervous about the eyes stinging from the salt otherwise I would have loved to move around more as I feel the buoyancy would have been great to stretch my body out in different positions. I didn't find it all that meditative as I thought I would, perhaps bc of the above. I do already float in bathtub and in jacuzzis so maybe I expected something more. I enjoyed the utter darkness. I think I would like to find a large warm tank to submerge my entire body in and have a breathing apparatus. Basically scuba but with warm water and privacy. Sounds like I want to get back in the womb lol. read more

I give it a 5 on price and 2 on experience. You are situated above a garage and I heard a number of cars entering and exiting the structure. Also felt a little strange that the facility is unattended once you enter the room. I felt reasonably safe in the tank, but the surrounding area is a bit sketchy. This is the place to go if you want to experience state-of-the-art floating. I'll briefly cover two aspects of the process. First, the technicalities of the establishment and then my personal take on the actual float. Step-by-step, this is the process for Float Labs: 1. Brief orientation, sign a waiver. 2. Take a shower. 3. Get in the tank! The enclosures are huge and they look high-tech. There is about 10 inches of water, so be careful not to slip when you get in. Carefully lie down and relax! 4. After about two hours, the owner will knock on the tank. 5. Get out, take another shower. If you don't wear ear plugs, be sure to wash out your ears a few times (there is about 1000 lbs of salt in the tank water--it's how you float!). 6. Thank the owner and leave. My personal experience with the actual float: This was my first isolation tank experience and I've heard that floating can take some practice in order to really get deep. I believe this statement. For the first 30 minutes, I worked on getting accustomed to my environment. I'm tall (6'3") so it was a little tricky getting centered in the tank. The tanks are big enough to spread out but my toe or fingers would graze the sides unless I made sure I was absolutely still. Once I mastered that, I relaxed and did some deep breathing. It was difficult at first, just because of the newness of the experience, but I eventually felt like I was getting the hang of it. I actually drifted off to sleep twice (no danger of drowning, the salt water would wake you the instance you get it in your eyes/face). Sleeping probably isn't the best way to spend time in the tank but there is a fine line between falling into a nap and meditating (a line that I haven't quite mastered yet). Anyway, two hours flew by and once I got out, I was super relaxed and my skin felt great from the salt water. Overall, I will definitely be going back.
