FloatLab is awesome. The guy working it was super straight forward about it my first time in. The setup is very simple and effective. My first time in I wasn't sure what to expect, and my first 20 min or so (I'm guessing) in the tank, it took me a while to relax. After that, I melted into the tank and it was the most relaxing atmosphere possible: complete silence, darkness, and floatation. Also, the TurboSonic (I forget the exact name) that was used to loosen tense muscles before the chamber was awesome (and looked expensively technological :-) ). I'm a long-time floatation tank user. If you like floating, this place is good and a very good price for 2 hours of time. Clean, well run, nice tank. Shower and other facilities were also clean. I would have liked to have the option of playing some audio, but they don't have that and it probably wouldn't work in their setup (because the sound carries and would be heard by the person in the other tank). If you want audio, bring your own bone conduction audio device. PS. People who say things like "I wish the water was deeper" or "I wish the tank was bigger" or the "air flow was low" have zero experience with float tanks. This tank is as good as it gets. read more

This place is amazing!! I can't tell you how life changing floating has been for me. I recommend that you come here and try the isolation tank and for $40 for two hours, it's criminal not to take advantage. Other places want twice as much money for half the time Float Lab gives you. Craig is the owner and he is an amazing guy. Don't feel offended by his brash demeanor, he is just not much of a people person. He's been doing this for many years and has a remarkable business. The Vibration machines that these people are complaining about are very cool machines. I really enjoy the float tank experience. Its inexpensive, clean, well run. There is a paid parking lot - cash only - which is worth it...All parking in Venice costs money. There are only 2 isolation tanks so get your reservation in. Luckily the opening hours are very generous. Crash is very nice and super informative. He also designed the equipment and he is able to set you up for the best experience possible. The experience itself is great. My first time it was pretty intense, and I think this varies from person to person. But I left feeling great and have returned a few times, since, and will continue to return. I've enjoyed all my experiences immensely, every time. I have come out of the float tank, my mind clear and my body feeling better than it does after a 2 hour massage. Without fail one of THE most fantastic experiences of my life... I've had sensory deprivation tanks on the brain for weeks and finally mustered up the courage to go through with and I am SO thankful that I did!!! Now mind you, I'm notoriously afraid of the dark, claustrophobic AND I don't like being wet, yet this was an immensely freeing and comfortable experience. At times it felt as if I were adrift in outer space and others it seemed very womb like. Though I didn't quite make it to the "hallucination" nirvana some people are known to achieve, I did have a barrage of creative and visual energy. I found it incredibly relaxing which given my distaste for bubble baths is rather amazing. after what seemed to be about 20-30 minutes (it turned out to be 77) I felt a bit cold (the owner said he'd boost the heat next time) and sleepy (under water isn't the safest spot to nap) and decided that was enough for my maiden voyage. The euphoric & enlightened sensation i fel for a couple hours afterwards was absolutely surreal and I can not wait to feel it again. Whether you're an artist in search of a muse, a stressed out air traffic controller or you simply like floating in water I HIGHLY suggest you look book time here!!! I've been here twice now and I can't say enough positive things. I hope to keep going at least 1-2 a month. If you allow yourself to be open to this kind of experience, I think it could be life changing. The only way to describe it is like a mental and physical hard reset. When you get out, it feels like a layer has been taken away or your mental slate has been wiped clean. You feel calm and refreshed. I personally have really amazing conversations with myself and I work out issues that I've been thinking about and unknowingly thinking about! It's so awesome. Crash is pretty rad and hilarious too. Price was great and you get two full hours. However, I thought it a bit strange that the employee just left the "float lab" unlocked. He had walked us through the process and said if we needed to leave early, we had simply had to unlock the front door. I left about 15 minutes before my two hours was up and found the door unlocked. It really didn't matter that the employee left the two customers there but for safety reasons, he probably should have locked the door as precaution. Anyone could have literally just walked in. So I came at 10 pm and the place is hard to find and no parking after the normal shops close. Venice gets a little sketchy once the sun goes down and on the side of the building are hundreds of bums camping out. (Fyi: more the ladies, a little sketchy late night) Now to the experience, I liked it unfortunately I didn't get as good of an experience as other people but that is on me. I have did some research and they say it takes some people a few times to learn to relax. So I will go again and give it another try. I've been a few times now and my float experience gets better and better. The facility is welcoming, clean, safe and Crash who runs it sets up everything for you ahead of time like towels and ear plugs and is super nice to talk to. Expect out of it what you put into it mentally and physically. I had major neck tension but that took some time to go away because that's my problem of letting my head relax. Eventually that went away the next float. Some people who write negative reviews want instant results. With anything internal and introspective some things just take time depending on your baggage. If you want to make this a habit, you'll get improvement and your experience will change the more you float depending on what you're looking for in life or where you came from. Just because you pay for something doesn't mean it's going to produce instant results all the time. You don't go to the gym just once and you're magically in shape. Float Lab is an all around awesome place. They have a great team and it's a wonderful experience. Whether you're a virgin, rookie or veteran floater there's only one place to go...Float Lab! I've noticed at Float Lab they pay attention to the details. The craftsmanship and safety features on the tanks are very impressive. When Crash (owner, who is a really cool and fascinating guy) showed my the intricacies of each tank I was blown away. The parking is pretty rough, so be sure to ask the Float Lab staff where to park before you go. While you don't need them, I like to float with earplugs because the saline solution (that you float in) can sometimes make your ears feel like you've been in a swimming pool for a few days. If you're in the Greater LA area and this is your thing, this is probably the place you want to go. My husband and I had a great experience here. It was very relaxing. You can occasionally hear street noise (at least it seemed that way to me). The price is reasonable (40 a person for a minimum 60-90 minute float), and if there's no one booked after you, you can get even more than that. Though I found a little over an hour to be sufficient. Recommended for people really into full body relaxation, consciousness nerds, yoga or tai chi practitioners, or anyone looking for a new experience (if a little out of most people's comfort zones). Parking is insane nearby, but there's a nearby pay lot they have an agreement with, so call them up if you can't find a spot. read more

This review is simply about my experience. Some people may LOVE this float experience, but I did not. I only spent about 1 minute in the tub total before I left. Facility is clean, but EXTREMELY hot. I prefer a float experience that feels more like you're walking into a spa and this was humid and uncomfortable. I was also informed there are no options for music or ambient light in the tank (I know this seems obvious to some people, but all of the other tanks I have used have had at least an option for these amenities which then fade out after time to help you relax). I am a bit claustrophobic so the small amount of light and relaxing music help me ease into the float experience. I would not have booked an appointment at Float Lab if I had known these options weren't available. The attendant said I could keep the door to the tank cracked and put my phone music on if I wanted as long as it doesn't bother the other person floating (the walls between tanks do not go all the way up to the ceiling), the other person floating at my appointment time was my bf so that was not a problem. Unfortunately, there was no cell reception or wifi available so I couldn't use my music either. In comparison to other tanks I also found this tank very small. I am a pretty small person (5'5) and one of the best aspects of floats for me is not anything besides the water. This was almost impossible in this tank. My preferred float position is with my arms outstretched to the side (starfish position) and this is not possible in this this tank because it is rectangular and very narrow. In addition, the tank water did feel too cool (this may be due to the fact that the air was so hot and humid), but I enjoy in other tanks when the tank water is the same as your body temp (my bf said this was also an annoyance for him after he did the full float time). I was in the tank for about a minute and it just felt unpleasant and not what I expect from a float experience so instead of laying there being uncomfortable and annoyed, I got up and left to enjoy walking around Venice Beach while I waited for my boyfriend's float to be done. This might be someone's idea of an awesome float experience who is purely looking for sensory deprivation (although there were definitely outside noises that could be heard in the tank once the door is closed so not even that seems to be accomplished), but it is not mine. I would not go back because there are other float tanks that meet my needs. I was also a little disappointed that neither of the attendants seemed interested in the fact that I did not do the float nor did they ask me for feedback or attempt to make it right with me at all. I understand I signed something indicating that I am required to pay for the experience regardless of how much of it I completed, but it was disappointing for no one to even care how my float went, why I was unhappy with it, or offer to do something to make me not feel like I just wasted $40 and 2+ hours of my time. If this if your first time floating, I would recommend going somewhere that is a little more accommodating and welcoming. One of the most relaxing experiences I've ever had. If you're carrying a lot of stress, this is a must try. You're required to shower before stepping in the tank, and are provided earplugs to keep out any of the solution salts. Inside the tank is totally no pressure. You're in complete control, and can exit whenever you want. You have to take one more shower after exiting, but they provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash to effectively clean off all of the solution. My experience inside the tank was as trippy as it was therapeutic, and I definitely left feeling at peace for the evening. I had heard about sensory deprivation flotation tanks years ago, and put it on my bucket list. A couple of weeks ago, I finally took the plunge. The first opening was 3 weeks out, the last appointment on a Friday night. I took it. I got there about 20 minutes early, and parked under the overhang as instructed. Since it was already dark out, it was really cold & windy, and there was a large collection of homeless (or homeless-looking) potheads setting up camp outside the building. I walked all the way around, but could not find a sign or entrance. I called and was told that someone would come get me, but that it would be best to wait inside my car. About 10 minutes later, somebody tapped on my passenger window and led me inside the building. After unlocking a public restroom for me to use, I was waved into the lobby and told to sit on a black leather couch. "You're too early, you have to wait", I was told. The dim blue & red fluorescent lighting definitely gave the place a unique vibe. When the other client finally arrived, we were given laminated documents full of technical jargon about sanitation, bacteria levels and testing procedures. The other guy had mentioned that he came to Float Lab after considering another place in Burbank, and that finally got Crash talking. After a lengthy rant about chemical procedures and working with the county on setting up sanitation testing standards for floatation tanks, Crash declared "now THAT is the difference between us and them...WE are 99.9% microbe-free, while THEY let you float in a pool of goop with no concern for your health". A few moments later, he went into "fine print mode", rattling off procedures for our float. Then we signed forms and were led into our respective rooms. When I finally stepped into the tank, I was surprised to find that the water was little more than ankle-deep. I settled in on my back and immediately bounced up to the surface. It was the strangest feeling. For those worried about flipping over or choking, rest assured that this is almost impossible. The upward pull was strong, pulling my legs up into an almost hyper-extended position. But it was strangely relaxing. Some people say you need a few sessions before you have any out-of-body experiences, but I started to have dreamlike symptoms almost immediately. About 1 minute into my float, I suddenly felt like I was floating in the ocean, with huge waves bobbing me up and down, sloshing side to side. Of course this was impossible inside the small tank, but since I wasn't seeing or feeling anything else, every little sensation became greatly exaggerated. I crashed into the side of the tank a couple of times, and it felt like I had hit an iceberg. Then I became acutely aware of my breathing...do I always breath so loud? Eventually the breathing became part of my dream state...I had visions of leaves on a sidewalk that would blow away every time I exhaled, only to return with each inhale. In the most unusual moment of my float, that vision slowly morphed into a scene of a huge saucepan full of bubbling marinara on a stove. I was overhead and it came closer and closer, zooming in until I could see that there were meatballs submerged in it. Suddenly I was in the sauce, enjoying an edible mud bath. And no, I don't blaze or do drugs. It didn't last however. As expected, my mind eventually turned to work, my busy schedule the next day, paying bills, and running errands. When I realized this, I berated myself and tried to get my mind back into dream mode. I went in and out of dreams for the remainder of my float. I had no idea how much time had passed, but I heard a thump that I thought was perhaps the other guy getting out of his tank in the other room. Was my session over? How long had I been floating? I decided that I wasn't going to get out until I felt ready, or until Crash came to tell me my time was up. Some time later, I finally decided to move my legs. I don't think I have ever gone for so long without moving a single muscle in my body, but when I did finally try to move my legs, it took quite a bit of effort and felt like a brand new pair of limbs had been installed. Then I touched my stomach and was surprised to find a crusty layer of salt. A few minutes later, I felt completely lucid and decided that it was time to get out. Standing up was painful, I suddenly felt like I weighed 300 lbs, bones creaked, joints popped, and I longed for weightlessness again. I saw that I had been floating for over 2-1/2 hours. I rinsed my ears out as instructed (so salt doesn't dry in there), locked the door behind me and left. Would I do it again? Probably. With repeated visits, the mental clarity is sure to be comforting. And especially with some type of soreness or injury, the total relaxation would be therapeutic, in a natural way. It was no "Altered States", but still an extraordinary out-of-body moment. When I got home, my bed felt hard as a rock. Gravity sucks. read more

You read a laminated paper that describes the tank and how it works. You wait until the tank is ready to go. You listen to the owner "Crash" give you safety tips and instructions. You use the restroom if you need to. (Restroom is outside) You pay $40 cash. You go inside either Room 2 or Room 3, which ever one is free and bring your stuff with you. He shows you how the shower works and how to get into the tank. He leaves. You get naked. You shower. You go in the tank naked. You get out of the tank. You shower again. You get dressed. You leave. Inside the Tank: Very humid. Water is luke warm. Completely dark NOT completely silent. Float lab is an amazing experience. The founder, Crash, makes the isolation tanks. He's often there and worth hearing about the tanks. He's also been on Joe Rogans podcast. They're the best out there. He mentioned they sell for $40,000! They big tanks and have super thick walls so you don't hear a thing. They have a whole filtration system and use ozone to sterilize the tanks between each session. Each session is two hours which is a bit long for me but you can leave whenever. I've only floated at Float Lab so I've never tried music or lights (they don't offer either), but the experience is incredible. It's really reasonably priced and you can buy bulk sessions with a discount. The only reason for 4 stars is the Venice location is smaller (only two tanks) and finding it is a bit trickier. So I wanted to try this whole sensory deprivation thing. I've heard you can trip out or you might start seeing things or weird stuff. And I was pretty intrigued with the idea of having some kind of mind altering experience just by laying down in black box with no light. Well, I had a mind altering experience, but not quite the one I thought I would get. Laying in the tank for 2 hours with no stimulus was interesting. Have you ever seen a person who's been hypnotized? You kind of get into a state like that. Except no one is doing it to you. You get in a state that Buddhists call nirvana. Your mind completely blanks out because you have no stimulus to react to. At first its pretty uncomfortable, and it takes some time getting use to. You literally can't think. Thinking becomes a chore and you drift into this state of just existing and breathing. Now this is relaxing, but what I found most interesting is how it ended up affecting me. I was completely calm, and I couldn't feel much in the way of emotion. I couldn't be angry, or happy or sad. It was weird. I just was. And it really gave me a sense of peace that was unusual. I didn't think it amazing at first, but a few days after the experience, I noticed I could put myself in that state at will after forcing myself to stay in the tank for 2 hours. I think this was an experience well worth trying. You probably won't get much out of it at first, but I personally learned how to center and quiet my mind which is a very cool thing. I think I'm a bit happier from the experience. It's a very subtle thing, but shutting out those negative thoughts from your head is a cool thing. My only problem with float labs is that, it's not very convenient. This type of thing would be useful if I had access to it whenever I wanted. Lets say I was mad, or depressed, or angry about anything. If I could just jump into a tank withing a few hours, I would. But my appointment was scheduled 3 weeks after I called, so it's not readily available. There's only 2 tanks, and the owner/worker was a little loud and emphatic about the filtering and certifications they had. It was kind of overboard, but nice to know. I do have to warn people who might be claustrophobic that this will be uncomfortable. Your body and mind will give you excuses to leave the tank, but go with it if you can. I thought I might be suffocating at one point, but I just calmed myself down and it ended up fine. You end up experiencing what true meditation should be like without even trying. It forces you to meditate and that is very calming and a great skill you can build upon after leaving the tank. Overall I recommend trying the float labs tank if you've never tried it before. read more

I will break it down for you. I own a float tank. The Samadhi tank. I float every single day, sometimes multiple times a day. I first started floating at Floatlab in 2012?. Crash is intelligent. But there are certain things I have learned about floating that most people don't understand. One is the temperature of the tank, the air quality of the tank, and the cleanliness of the tank water. Now I have nothing against float lab, but I think this brand is a bit overrated. For one, his tanks have very little air inside, I remember I would feel like I was suffocating and would have to open the door every once in a while to bring in some air. This is one of the major issues almost all float tanks/companies are clueless about. That there needs to be some air circulation and fresh warm air being brought into the tank. I know crashes tank has small amounts of oxygen put into the tank, but it is not enough. Second is the temperature of the water. I float at 95 to 96, not 93.5. The human body has a temperature of 95 - 97 degrees. A tank is supposed to match the bodies temperature. I don't know how hot his tanks are, but the old way of thinking has been to set tanks at 93.5. Many centers are still confused about this, and don't understand that 93.5 is very cold, and is not suitable for a good float. Third was his water quality, If I do remember correctly, his tank smelled somewhat like a gym, that implies there is not enough h202 in the water or there are too many people getting into it and it is not being filtered/sterilized. I know they turn the filter on after everyone gets out, but do they also sterilize? Also the price of his tanks are very expensive. And the size of his tanks are identical to the samadhi tanks which are $12,000. Now samadhi also has a lot of issues. Don't get me started with those people. I think their whole business practice is tainted. They pestered me everyday for a month leaving voice mails & emails after I said I would let them know when I was interested, yet they didn't stop leaving messages everyday, which implies they are hard up for business. I got their tank because I thought it was the best tank at the cheapest price. I later found that their tanks are cheaply made, the customer service they have is awful, and they stopped progressing their tank in the 80's. But Crashes $40,000 tank is identical to theirs, except it is made of metal, and he has a very high level filtration system. That's what I give crash credit for is his high level filtration. But if you get into the tank and it smells like a gym the water is dirty. If the water is not clear, or it is thick, or tan colored, it is dirty, or cheap epson salt being used. Many centers dont use USP grade salt, or they use cheap low grade USP epson salt, and they end up getting water that is sort of tan. Also both the Samadhi and Float lab tanks are too small for me. The best tank is from sweden, and called the aqua anima, and it is the size of a car. In my personal tank I altered it so that a fan is connected to it, and I set my room to 85-90 degrees so that warm fresh air is being brought into the tank constantly. If you get into a tank and it is sweaty/stuffy or hard to breathe they are not putting enough air into it, no matter how complex/expensive the tank is. Most people who float don't know much about floating and will float in any tank they are given. Most people who float do not float enough to understand what floating is about. Most people who get in the tank once, don't like it, and create an opinion on it from that one experience are somewhat dimwitted and not ready for it. You don't really know what floating is about from one float, or two floats or three floats. You have to do it constantly to have a real understanding of them. Floating is not for everyone, especially if you are someone who does not like yourself. Or being alone with yourself. Or you have trouble letting go of yourself, or "dying". Many people hear about something like this and think 'oh I can just get into a tank and float', when it takes a certain discipline to float, and to give up, and let go. It is in the letting go that healing occurs. The tank is the most healing transformative module that exists on earth. They call it meditation on steroids. It removes trauma, changes how you think, feel, heals your energy, and you can have very transcendental experiences in it. The darkness is a teacher. There is something about nothing and silence and darkness that heals us. It is a form of Rebirthing. A person who uses it once and says they don't like it perhaps needs to examine him/herself a little more carefully as they have no understanding of what an amazing tool they have in front of them. Some people simply have too many personal issues to enjoy floating. A tank is simply a way to get away from everything. There is nothing to be afraid of. The most life changing tool is in front of you. Some people simply don't have the ability to see that. read more

I had to wait for some one to finish but even though I only paid for an hour he let me stay In as long as I wanted which ended up being two and a half hours. second i had a small problem with him on the phone he told me he has another "important deal on the other line" and asks if he can switch over, when he does this he does not actually click over, and proceeds to call me an idiot who "will not shut up" so I kindly let him know he was still talking to me, the idiot. I am gonna give them another chance as their are few companies that allow you to have this experience and the other place is always having issues with their setup. I went here about 6 months ago and now it's time to give a review. This was my first experience ever, read great stuff about it. While in the tank, I could still hear outside noise, I couldn't relax and get into a meditative state that others talk about. I tried my best to stay in the tank for as long as I could, which was only 30 mins. The outside noise kept on disturbing me. The guy who worked there was hard to understand. He gave me a detail sheet on what to do and I had to sign it. He's seemed kinda jaded, there was no sense of human connection. read more

It only has 2 sensory deprivation tanks which makes this a very intimate spot. And it's awesome! Everything from the ease of booking, to how soft the towels were, to how awesome the owner of this location is, it was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend. read more

This was truly one of the best experiences!!! I've known about float therapy for probably a year and a half now but I was very reluctant and even scared to try it out. The idea of being in an enclosed, dark space for a long time frightened me a lot and I didn't care (back then what the benefits were). I am SO grateful to have been surprised with this last night. I had no idea where we were going until audios were played for me in the car ride with Joe Rogan discussing the benefits of float therapy. Of course, immediately I became nervous and uncertain again but by the time we arrived, I had listened to nearly 4 or 5 audios. I was extremely relaxed and even excited for the experience! I will tell you right now, there is NOTHING like it unless you have swam in the Dead Sea (Israel) which I have been VERY fortunate enough to do it. I felt completely calm, relaxed and was able to get into a state of mediation after about 10-15 minutes of slowing down my lovely monkey mind ... and then it was UTTER BLISS for over an hour!!! Absolutely surreal and amazing. I'm already planning on going again next week. Highly recommend and suggest this to anyone and everyone. I woke up this morning feeling rejuvenated and I slept extremely well. Jaz (the guy who was working when we went) was very helpful, informative and sweet. Bliss out lovelies! xx read more

Wow. I had quite an experience! This was my first time, Jarod was a great person to orient me on how to prepare for my first float. He was very friendly and helpful, kudos to him! The tank was nowhere near what I expected! I imagined tons of water...fortunately I was wrong because that would have initially felt scary. My provided ear plugs worked great. I felt a bit squeamish initially until I acquainted myself with the inner dimensions. I went at 9 pm so it was quite peaceful but every once in awhile I could hear the pipes and doors closing, and it was not my imagination! I was delighted that I was floating since I can't float without the assistance of 1000 lbs of epsom. It was nice to be able to stretch in every which direction without hitting the walls...I am 5'2" & my feet were indeed facing the showers. I did however wonder how tall people could be comfortable, glad not to be one of them! I was cold for the first hour or so, just shy of shivering so I moved my limbs often. I weigh a buck. The second hour I magically warmed up. The next thing I knew my partner was waking me up saying how Jarod had been trying to tell me my time was over for over 10 minutes! I then was told how I scared them both because I was not responding to the calls or even my partners shakes! I was in such a deep sleep, I went off into space! Yes, I was sober. Despite one to expect me to feel frightened by the reactions from them both, I was calm as could be! I felt so tuned out yet so tuned in. Contact wearers: They tell you to take your contacts off, which I did...but it wasn't necessary. I am just shy of being blind and taking them off made the initial minute or so a bit daunting. I just recommend very good face drying before lying down to float so the salt water doesn't bother you. read more

This was an awesome experience! I highly recommend the tank for 2 hours. Staff was kind and courteous. BEWARE though of the yellow thing you stand on that vibrates in the front . It shakes your body and I do see how it could have its benefits , but it really messed my back up bad. I have been back from this experience for over a month and my back is still not right. It was definitely from thus yellow vibrating thing. My advice is to just stick with the tank. read more

First and foremost, thanks to the owner for having such a cool business with incredibly fair prices. $40 for two hours is awesome. $7 to park. Off the bat, I promise it's worth it for the experience! I just went today, for the very first time ever. The owner was totally no BS - straight to the point. Nice enough dude, though seemed a bit detached. In the spirit of getting to the point, here's what I thought: Yes, it was absolutely pitch dark. The ear plugs worked well enough in terms of keeping water out of the ears, however I expected that when submerged and floating there would be absolutely no sound, except my heartbeat and breath. But that was not the case. The entire time I head pipes running (outside the tank, not in my head). Or if it wasn't pipes running, it was something that sounded exactly like that. So unfortunately I focused mostly on that the entire two hours, rather than unwinding. And also, for a first-timer, I have to say I was pretty uncomfortable whilst floating. (I don't blame the owner for this of course!) I'm just saying, it's definitely something someone like me needs to try a few times. I just couldn't get comfortable with my hands over my head - very awkward. When I put them by my sides, my hands would bump into my thighs, keeping my mind awake. I admittedly am one of those people who has a really hard time quieting his mind if there any distractions whatsoever. Pros: pitch dark, potential to be incredibly relaxing (if you can find a position that works for you - this doesn't seem to be too hard for most people - I'm just a pain in the butt). Unique experience. I didn't feel claustrophobic at all. Extremely fair prices. Cons: not totally sound-proofed (even with ear plugs and ears submerged), hard to find a comfortable position (might not be the case for you). I definitely plan to try this again soon enough. I know it can be great for me - I might just need to book two sessions back to back just to experiment. Four hours could be interesting. Definitely try this if you can. It's worth it. read more
