I indulged in lunch with some coworkers a few weeks ago at the Bloomingdale's location and had a lovely experience. We went before the lunch rush crowd and basically were the only customers at that time. Lots of seating and a decent sized establishment with a sit down bar. A great place for ladies who lunch and shop or for an afterwork drink and nibble. I did not patronize a bathroom so I am not sure if it is inside the restaurant itself or in the store. The restaurant was modern, minimalistic and clean. We were greeted by staff and sat immediately. Although I did not get pictures of all the food, I had a wonderful Chipotle Black Bean burger. I must say it was "finger-lickin' good" for a vegetarian option. I also had the sweet potato fries which were below average. They had no flavor and were not served very warm. My coworkers enjoyed a burger and a grilled cheese with jalapenos and crinkle cut fries. We were all very happy with our meals and our server was excellent. First of all I got greeted by a man who clearly couldn't understand anything I said, I asked him if he had sparkling rose and he brings me Saratoga sparkling water. Then he sends the waitress named Giselle her name tag said. Very sassy and condescending waitress. I asked her if there was any sparkling rose she said no we have still Prosecco. If the Prosecco is still it means that it's flat. I ordered a Mac and cheese for my nephew and mom and I ordered a burger to share. My brother joined later and ordered a dark and stormy which was really bad. The waitress had to make the drink herself, anyways my brother ordered the calamari and it came out first but no sharing plates nothing. My nephew gets his Mac and cheese that was so gross and burnt. Then everyone else was getting their food and I had to ask the waitress were is my food she said coming. 45 minutes later my burger came out and there was a hungry toddler. I have given this place MANY chances. firstly, they changed the look of the place and the menu. it now looks like a cheap nail salon with the muted blue and gray colors. before that it was a orange\red that really kept a sports bar, burger joint kind of vibe. in any case, the food is what really matters. They used to have a full menu with lots of different sides and veggie options, and even yummy milkshakes (although super high calorie filled). since changing the menu they now have some greasy appetizers, a handful of burgers available to order and some sides. we started with the Buffalo wings which we've gotten before. they were small and sad to say the least. at $16 it was a complete rip off. the wings were teeny tiny and there was about 8 of them in the bowl. they were also super greasy and although fried, super overly oily. then came the burgers at approx $20-25 a pop. you used to be able to create your own burgers but now they offer a handful of prefixed ones. again, I ordered a simple burger and it was SUPER greasy. the shoestring fries and sweet potato fries were good tasting and crispy which was the only redeeming quality. bill came out to right around $60+ also the floor was filthy. there were papers and food pieces all over. a simply sweep with a broom would easily make this place look that much better. after leaving I got a really horrible stomach ache and for these reasons I will NEVER be coming back to FLIP Not worth the price, the quality, the dirty restaurant and a complimentary stomach ache . read more

Twelve bucks for a burger may seem like a lot, but why'd you choose to eat at a place in Bloomingdales, in NYC that offers wagyu, short rib and brisket burgers? In other words, take a look around then reconsider that whole complaint about cost. The patties seem to be around the 5-6 oz range and are cooked to order. Lots of toppings and bun choices available to experiment with. A separate order of fries is crispy, greaseless and decently sized. And if root beer floats are your thing, they make a really good one. My friend and I got two bbq burgers, fries, and Irish Coffee milkshake. The burgers were tiny for the price of $18 (I think). It had a patty, bacon, and blue cheese inside. The blu cheese with a bacon combination was a very weird one. It tasted like I was eating old expired meat with some cheese on the top. Also, the price does not include the fries which is very weird! The waitress did not ask me whether I want my burger well done, medium etc. it just came well done. The burger came with carrots, celery and ranch sauce. Nice way to save up money for the restaurant, and skim the customer. The fries are $7 and thick and bulky. It reminded me of diner fries that are less expensive. They were pretty oily. I would skip them next time. The Irish Coffee milkshake had good amount of alcohol, quality whipped cream. However, I did not taste coffee at all! Maybe because of the alcohol. While shopping inside Bloomingdales, I decided to stop in Flip for a quick lunch. This was my first time going to Flip. The first thing I noticed was the $14 per person minimum for any dining in service. I figured that seemed a little steep for a burger joint but was too hungry to care. The restaurant itself is a full service bar and restaurant tucked away in a big corner of the lowest level of Bloomingdales (in the men's department). The decor is bright and fun and makes for a nice place to catch your breath after shopping! The thing to get at Flip is one of the Flip burgers, but in my opinion, on the Build Your Own menu rather than their specialty menu. You can customize with everything from a super beefy patty, super sweet beef patty, fish, or even a chicken patty. I went for the "refined" Angus patty medium well with American cheese on the classic sesame seed bun which was excellent. The meat was fresh and the portion was huge making a $12 burger worth it. I added a side of skinny fries for $5 and asked for a cup of the Cajun seasoning to add to the fries which was delicious and spicy! Overall it ended up being a $22 lunch which was way more than I wanted to spend/expected from a burger joint, but the service and food quality were great that I do suppose it would be worth the treat for the convenience while shopping. read more

I opted for the med-rare brisket blend with tomatoes & mushrooms within a brioche bun. The burger was a decent size, although it's still not worth the normal $12 price tag. I'd wait for a sale. The bun was soft as a baby's rump, the meat had great grilled flavor, but overcooked. Overall, it was a good burger (esp. since it's free). The Garlic Aioli Steak Fries are some of best fries I've had yet. They're great sized steak fries with a crunchy exterior, and a soft & flavorful interior. I was shopping for a pair of jeans when I discovered Flip. Flip is a upscale build-your-own-burger joint located in the mens department at Bloomingdales. They offer four pre-made burgers for those who can't decide on their own combination of toppings, meat, and bread. There are a lot to choose from: six buns, nine patties, 12 sauces, eight cheeses, and four other toppings. I ordered their Benedict Burger (american-bred wagyu beef with canadian bacon, ultra-melted american cheese sauce and a fried egg grilled pattie-style on rye bread) and it was good, not great and definetly not worth $20. The setting feels a bit like an airport: shiny and clean, low-ceilinged, with soft fluorescent lighting. It's comfortable enough, although it won't make you forget that you're in the basement of a department store. Flip is a good way to recharge after some retail therapy but I would rather go to the Burger Joint for half the price and have more $ to spend at the John Varvatos section. read more

I mean, Flip is located inside Bloomingdale's, so you shouldn't be expecting a burger for tree fitty or anything, but what you pay for what you get is a bit much, even for here. Walk back that way and right before you go down the stairs to the Lab, Flip is on your left. It's primarily a lunch spot, with waiter service, but you can sit at the bar and snack on your burger which comes with a ton of different meats. And, wait, it's only $12?! Obviously, you think I'm lying to you about the overpriced-ness here. But that's only partially true -- you can get a burger, with your choice of meat including short rib, brisket, spiced or veggie (and more) for $12 but that doesn't include fries or your drink. Be prepared to shell out another $5 for fries ($7 for the signature topped fries) and if you want more than one topping (first one is free) it's $1.50*. Add in a soda (not even a beer) and you're well over $20 for lunch of what is a burger and fries. The salads are even more disconcerting, as when you order a chopped salad with the burger blend (which is $18), it's a small bowl of mixed greens with a burger on top. Not mashed up and included within in the salad, but just some lettuce with a burger on top. Sure, it tasted fine, but it's not convenient and it's certainly not appealing. Every bite tasted amazing, that I had to quickly train myself to slow down and enjoy my meal. After shopping, this was a nice place to sit and have some food. It's located downstairs of Bloomingdales by the Men's section. The biggest downfall was that the bathrooms were located upstairs. So it took more than 15 minutes to run to the bathroom, so use the restrooms before you eat! My boyfriend and I went in around 3-4, so we just wanted to share a burger and an appetizer (so that we wouldn't spoil dinner). While we ordered the waiter said that if we shared a burger we had to pay more ($5 or so). So we ended up getting two burgers and chili fries. I had the Chicken Sandwhich with an onion ring and a side of the hot sauce. It's pretty pricey because the menu price is for the plain burger. So if you want a good tasty burger, you have to add 1.50/ side. The chili cheese fries were nothing special and the burger was so large we didn't even finish. I think we ate like five fries total. We discovered flip burgers after a long day in the rain and walking into Bloomingdales to get out of it. We were both saturated and felt like some comfort food and a warm place to have lunch. We stumbled across flip burgers and were very pleased as we thought burgers would be perfect. The service began well with a waiter who " seemed" keen. I got the shroomy burger and asked for Salad on the side and my partner got pretzel burger. Our burgers came.. mine with out salad. But I still went on happily to eat. The burgers were quite good, but definitely not worth the price. Also with oily chips. The real down fall of this place was the service. No one noticed the lack of salad. Yes, its true, you can actually get a pretty great burger, customized however you want while you shop, well, I guess while you take a break from shopping. I've actually been here a couple times, and the burger of the day is usually my choice. With a variety of burger types, including a short rib burger, choices of bread and toppings, you really can't go wrong. And the fries, oh the fries. They are the little thin cut McDonald's style and are excellent. If this place was on a regular old street corner, it might be slightly less great, being that there are other options around, but inside a department store, you cant really beat it. Caramelized onion & sage brioche? Hot cherry pepper & asiago cheese bun? Wasabi & ginger ciabatta? How could you go wrong? There are sides offered, from skinny fries to steak fries to sweet potato fries to onion rings. I am a skinny fry kind of girl, and they were good. I decided to try the Refined (wagyu. american-bred kobe blend) burger with sauteed mushrooms on a caramelized onion & sage brioche bun. I was interested to see if there would be any apparent difference in taste in a burger made with wagyu. In truth, it was a yummy burger. Was it amazingly special? No. I tasted the hearty and sweet burgers too, and thought the Hearty burger was easily the winner. It was really the only one that had that extra zing you want in a special burger. Next time I will definitely get that. The mushrooms were tasty, although, I was surprised that they came in a small dish on the side, and not directly on the burger. The brioche bun was very fresh and yummy. Overall a good meal. I will definitely be back to try out a few other gourmet burger blends with options galore.
